Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for your help on all of this and for being my beta!
Rei sat, not seeing the fire in front of her. She was lost in a past she couldn't have predicted in her wildest dreams. She soul-walked into a past life of hers. Even weirder still, Usagi was there. The other women in the room shocked her too. She recognized all of them but a blond.
The room was ornately decorated; brightly colored fabric was draped over every wall. She could tell that the furniture was hand carved by a master craftsman, and the cushions were plush and well stuffed. The floor was covered in a large rug that looked to have a coat of arms on it.
Usagi wore a beautiful white dress, and her hair was again in the same style she always wore. The woman with her, including her past self, were all wearing beautiful and very colorful dresses. She smiled that she was wearing red, apparently she would always prefer that color.
She watched Usagi reach up and grab a golden crown from her head. "I hate wearing this thing," she muttered and placed it on a side table. Then she flopped down onto the chair near her. "Everyone knows I'm the crowned princess; it's just unnecessary."
Ami's past self said, "yes, but it looks beautiful on you, Serenity."
Usagi/Serenity ran her fingertips over the crown lightly. "It's gorgeous. It was a sweet birthday gift from everyone. I'm just tired of wearing white and being the perfect crowned princess all the time." She then kicked off her shoes and tucked her feet up under her.
The blond woman Rei didn't recognize scoffed and said, "hardly all the time. You sneak out constantly! I had to pretend to be you once this week and twice last week!" She was smiling wide the whole time she said it. Rei could tell she hadn't minded.
Makoto's past self said, "and I still always go and guard her. Even on those outings, she's not able to be by herself."
Rei watched herself say, "so what's the plan? I know you have some devious idea."
Serenity sat up straight and smiled. "Okay, so here's my idea. Let's go to Lady Venus' family home. It's far away, and her parents are never there. We could do what we want! And maybe on the way, we will even be set upon by highwaymen. That would be exciting! If it's just the five of us, I'll be so happy. You know you're all like sisters to me."
The scene Rei was watching grew fuzzy and faded, and suddenly, she was facing the Great Fire. Since she was a modern witch, she pulled out her phone and scoured the internet for the style of clothing they were wearing. She was hoping to place the time period by what they wore. She knew that with Usagi/Serenity being a princess, she would wear the most current style.
It wasn't easy. The further she went back, the more challenging it was for her to narrow down the style. That was until she found an old worn painting of a princess. It was dated circa 1015 A.D. The only reason she could be sure it was Usagi was because of the woman's hairstyle. It was precisely the hairstyle she saw Usagi always wearing and what Serenity had too. She was also wearing white.
She took a screenshot of the painting with the details listed below it and slipped the phone into her pocket as she stood from sitting in front of the Great Fire. As she left the building, Usagi jumped down off the roof above her and landed lightly next to her.
"I'm not used to people dropping down out of the sky," she teased.
"You knew I was up there," Usagi said smiling.
"True. I get the feeling you've always been mischievous."
"Only when I can't get caught. You should have seen some of the ways I snuck out of the castle when I was younger. Even my guards didn't know."
Rei laughed at that, "you haven't changed in any of your incarnations."
"Incarnations?" Usagi asked, incredibly confused.
"My soul-walking was into the past, our past lives–together."
"Wwwwaaaaaaa!"
Ami sighed and shot Jadeite a look across the room. His shoulders slumped, and he picked up his glass off the table and put a coaster underneath it.
Zoisite walked in, and Jadeite huffed, "your woman is getting bossy already."
Ami just laughed. "You'll thank me when you end up with Rei. Just because you're werewolves doesn't mean you have to live like animals."
"If she will have me," Jadeite said, frowning down at his water glass that was now sitting on a coaster.
"If you're not going to act like a werewolf at the very least, man up. Grow a pair of balls and pursue her," Ami said.
Zoisite choked on his own saliva in shock from what she said as Jadeite asked, "what the hell is that supposed to mean, Blue?"
"Zoisite wasn't such a wuss about everything. He respected me and tried to respect boundaries, but he pursued me and told me how much he wanted me. You're here whining when you should just go after her. You're fixing the only reason she denied you before. What's the hold-up?"
"What if she doesn't-"
Ami sped over, yanked him out of his seat by his collar, and shook him. "I've heard of her father; he's famous. She obviously doesn't live with him, so there must be a story there where he let her down. She might have walls, but I did too. Huge ones, and I couldn't deny my love for Zoisite. My mom drilled into my head since I was six that I should never trust or rely on a man. She's yours, just like I'm Zoisite's." She then released him, and he fell back into his chair.
Jadeite stood and said, "I'll see you all later." Ami cleared her throat, and he sighed and said, "after I take care of my water glass."
Zoisite smiled as he watched the two of them interact. They were acting like family, and that warmed his heart.
Usagi's head was spinning. She has a past life—one where she was meeting the women that had been her closest friends. They were finding each other again. That and Rei had told her the unknown blond was Venus. She would find her way into their lives soon.
She and Rei were walking down the stone path as they tried to talk about something ordinary. They both needed some time to adjust to what Rei had seen.
Rei looked at Usagi and said, "so, how's it going with Mamoru?"
"Wonderful!" Usagi said, beaming. "He's very guarded and stoic, but I have more to work with than most women. I can hear his heart rate speed up whenever he sees me."
"That boy has heart eyes for you. Even I can see that!"
"Heart eyes?"
Rei smiled and nodded. She then paused her walking, and so did Usagi, as Rei turned to face her. "You can't mistake the look of love in his eyes every time he sees you."
"Speaking of that," Usagi said, sensing Jadeite walking up the steps and passing under the Torii Gate. "What do you think about Jadeite?"
"Why?" Rei asked, trying to feign indifference.
"Because he's here now," Usagi replied, smirking.
"Um…Hi," he mumbled, staring at Rei.
Usagi leaned toward Rei and whispered, "speaking of heart eyes."
