Blueeyeddevil06, thank you so much for being my beta!
Mamoru looked at Usagi, completely confused. "Is that the top priority right now?"
She steeled herself for everything she had to do and convinced the right people. "Yes, it's time. I was living in the penthouse in the same apartment building we are in now. I had it remodeled and redecorated. I figured you wouldn't want to sleep in a pink room. We have the Master Suite." She then turned to Yamato. "They know where you live and have not only proven they can kidnap you and attempt to murder you, but they've also proven they can use your disappearance to draw out the whole police force. The Junior Master Suite is yours. I want you to sleep there tonight. I have all the most modern security systems in place. The CIA couldn't get in."
She then turned to Mamoru, not letting Yamato have time to object. She didn't need to pause for a breath after all. "It has a large dining room table that will fit all of us for meetings. Even when the planet Venus shows up. That includes Motoki and Grandpa Hino, who I would like to have in on this too."
To Luna and Artemis, she said, "one of the Guest Suites can be turned into Luna's office quickly. It would give her a place to coordinate and lead the meetings. Of course, some of her work really can be done from home.
"And Makoto," she added. "One Guest Suite we will turn into a training room. Not martial arts, but more of a vampire training. I know you have a lot of questions. It would be good to have a place where we can meet to discuss vampires, werewolves, witches, and prophecy. I have books of prophecies and the supernatural."
There was a knock on the door, and Usagi let Ami in. Mamoru said, "Ami, we'll explain on the way. We're making a location change."
Yamato finally found his voice. "I can't just move in with you. That's asking too much of you, Usagi."
She sped over, startling him, and looked him in the eyes. "I won't compel you, but I will say this. You don't have a choice. They kidnapped you as a distraction to draw out too many officers and personnel and leave the station vulnerable. I'm getting the impression that you are more well-liked and appreciated there than you comprehend. They blew up the station and much of the surrounding buildings. But, selfishly for me, more than that, you matter to Mamoru. You were almost killed today. If Nephrite had shown up two seconds later, he would have been bringing me your dead body. That is not an option. And if you insist on not living in the penthouse, I will force you to become a vampire."
Yamato chuckled at that part. "You're too sweet to force me." His brain wouldn't let him dwell on the truth that he almost died today. He wasn't ready to process that.
Usagi showed her whole vampire face to him, fangs, red irises, and black veins around her eyes. "I'm not as kind as I appear. Mamoru is my bonded love. I will act in a way that will protect him physically and emotionally without hesitation. I like you for who you are, but I will ensure your survival because of who you are to him. There's no way for you to avoid that from me. Your fate was sealed the moment you mattered to him."
"I can't matter that much," he said weakly.
She saw the insecurity in him. It was odd for her. He didn't see what he meant to Mamoru. "I know you matter to him like a father. Please don't lie to me. You see him like a son."
"I-I do," he said, blushing.
"So why fight any of this? Be the father to him that he needs. Also, tell the truth, would you even be able to sleep in your bed tonight?"
"No."
She took that little admission as the win that it was for the time being. She knew once he was there in the penthouse, she could convince him to stay.
Usagi turned to Makoto. "You're powerful and quick. Can you go home with him to get his things? He can drive so that you can bring a bunch of his things. Please know I'm counting on you to keep him safe."
"I won't let you down," Makoto vowed.
Usagi rolled her eyes dramatically. "I know that. I was telling you I believe in your abilities completely. You really need to learn more about being a vampire. Once you do, you'll realize how powerful you are."
She then turned to Ami. "We're going to our new place now, and I want you to come too. We need to find time tonight, sooner rather than later, to figure out how such a high concentration of vampires can feed and not draw attention. Sapphire won't be showing any restraint, and then there is you, Makoto, me, and eventually Venus. Rei has seen her representation in visions, and I'm assuming it's the same Venus that works with the London police. She takes down werewolves in London—awkward! That's a lot of vampires in Tokyo."
"Well, there are always the supplements…" Ami said nervously.
"Supplements?" Usagi asked, completely confused. "What're you talking about?"
Ami hesitated and then asked, "Artemis, where are your water glasses?"
He pointed to the cabinet, and she pulled one out, filled it three-quarters full of water, and handed it to Usagi. "Hold this a second."
She then dug through her purse, pulled out a pill box, and dumped one in her hand. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves then dropped one in the glass, and the water turned blood red.
Usagi's eyes were wide when she took a drink. It was apparent what Ami wanted her to do, and she trusted it was safe. She swallowed, and her eyes darted to Ami. "Where did you find these?!" She then drank the rest of the liquid in the glass. "It works like blood. I'm old enough that I can feel it. It wouldn't repair significant wounds, but that hardly matters. It can sustain a regular vampire."
Ami fidgeted. "I-I invented them. I didn't want t-"
"Wwwhhhaaaaaat!" Usagi screeched. "This is amazing! You solved the problem before I even asked for help! Can you make enough for all of us girls? Oh! And Dracula. He'll get a massive kick out of these! He's going to be so jealous I found out about them first. He's incredibly competitive when it comes to discovering amazing inventions."
She then pulled her cell out of her pocket, her fingers flew typing, and then she said, "there. I can't wait until he sees–"
The buzzing of a text message cut her off. She read it and laughed. "Told you! He is so jealous right now!" She then quickly clicked a picture of Ami and sent it. As she did, she said, "he wants to know what the genius looks like."
Ami's mind was reeling. It did amuse her that one of her first thoughts was that Zoisite won the bet. Then Usagi had progressed on to telling Dracula about her and him being not only impressed but jealous he didn't know of what she invented first. She felt like the moment she met Usagi, she had stepped into an alternate reality, and now Dracula knew about her and what she looked like.
Mamoru was watching everything and marveling at what Usagi was doing. He smirked as she turned her attention to Artemis. He didn't know what she was going to say, but he knew whatever it was going to be would leave him incredibly encouraged.
"Artemis, I will need your detective skills in whatever makeshift station they put you in. You know there has to be at least one person with access to the station that is on Diamond's payroll. I'm not even going to bother trying to figure it out myself. With your police records access and your ability to puzzle things out, I know you can figure it out faster than me. I'm happy to help compel any information you need. Just point me at the person and tell me what information you need to know."
She shocked Mamoru by turning to him next. He couldn't figure out why he was there other than because she loved him. "As much as I hate this, I need you working with Artemis and Yamato. I've seen the way your brain works, and really, you are in between the two. They both have decades more work experience, but you see the blend. You can put the pieces together from a detective's standpoint and from a medical examiner's one too. It will make you a fabulous diagnostician when you're a doctor."
And just like that, he realized it was obvious what he should specialize in at med school –diagnostic medicine. She not only encouraged him but also gave his whole future a focus.
Usagi nodded as she looked around the room, "any objections? No? Good. Time for us all to head out."
Mamoru took her hand in his and squeezed it tightly.
