Chapter 2: Let my new life begin again
After giving in to panic for a few moments, Tanya heaved a long sigh to regain her composure and take stock of her situation.
She was in an entirely black space, so black that light could not hope to shine through it. In the absence of light that could have allowed her to find her bearings and orient herself, Tanya had to focus only on these other senses.
However, not a single foreign noise reached her ears, only the sound of her breathing becoming gasping and the beating of her heart.
She felt like she was completely empty. As if her body had been launched into space.
After a few moments, Tanya proceeded to inspect her body.
The explosion caused by this fanatic of Mary Sue must have left after-effects on her own body given the intensity of the latter.
After a quick check, nothing seemed to be missing, she was able to feel these two legs as well as these two arms. No wounds seemed to be observable, but no way to be sure without light to be sure.
"Am I dead?" Tanya wondered, continuing her check-up. This new being, whom Tanya had also renamed "Being Y" in order to avoid using the very pompous name of "Supreme Goddess", had however made her understand that she was not done with her.
Decidedly, a nice bunch of liars and sore losers thought Tanya had just finished her full exam. Nothing was missing. Which was good news, but given the current state of things it was still quite minimal.
"Hey oh !" Tanya shouted, "Being Y can you hear me? Didn't you say you wanted a second round? Where then you finally recognize the fact that I was right all along."
Only silence answered her.
"You are a bunch of crooks, all of you!" Tanya shouted, giving free rein to her anger. Throwing those fists all over the place while desperately trying to punch something to get her anger out on...
That's when she felt, on her right hand, a sensation... A little tickling, very light, but not unpleasant. Regaining her composure, Tanya tried to identify the material she was touching.
It was quite familiar but impossible to put a word on this strange material. After a moment of reflection and having immersed herself in these memories Tanya was finally able to identify this curious material.
"Grass?" Tanya wondered, reminding him of her days spent under the tree at the military college reading the historical books of the previous world on the days off of her second life
After a short time enjoying this "new" experience, Tanya felt a slight draft on her face bringing familiar but also unfamiliar scents to her nostrils.
"I'm slowly regaining my senses," Tanya thought to herself, I might have to get it all back in a while. In the meantime, I should focus on calculating my spells to make sure they still work, just in case...
Something easier said than done because it was much more complicated to activate her spells. Activating her mage blade required a significant effort of concentration, whereas usually, she was able to produce these blades as easily as breathing and with surgical precision.
Seeking the origin of these disturbances, Tanya tapped with her left hand where her Elenium 95 Computing Jewel had originally been… Nothing! noted Tanya, her second jewel had also disappeared.
A vein began to appear on her forehead.
"I understand why it's a lot harder to cast spells…" Tanya thought to herself. "She took everything from me…Damn imposters! I deeply hate you and all Beings from A to Z!" Tanya shouted.
To her surprise, her own voice reached her ears. Other sounds were then added. She was careful to try to identify everything. She had to prepare for any situation and began to put up her magic shield, even if much weaker than when she was at the front.
"It's already better than nothing." thought Tanya thoughtfully. "At least I'm able to stop small caliber bullets and possibly stab wounds."
Concentrating, Tanya recognized the sound of the wind, the song of the birds as well as noises seeming to come from human activities. These noises were cut by what seemed to be shouted from people quite far away. These were not cries of panic but rather of surprise, protest, and indignation. "At least I wouldn't be alone," Tanya thought to herself, continuing to listen. At first glance, no immediate danger, but a very particular noise was continuous, as if bubbles were bursting...
After a few minutes, a bright light appeared in front of her eyes. A light so blinding that it felt like looking directly at the Sun. By reflex, she had to put her hand in front of her eyes to try to reduce the intensity. Gradually, it became more and more bearable until she could finally see again.
She surveyed her surroundings in amazement. Everything seemed unreal. Tanya stood in the middle of a small clearing surrounded by gigantic trees.
It was the first time she had seen trees so tall that it looked like their tops were directly touching the heavens.
The weirdest thing was the numbers on them. Those numbers were far too conspicuous to be unimportant, Tanya noted, though their meaning still eluded her.
Scanning this new place with her gaze, she noticed that many bubbles were suspended in the air. They too were oversized, some almost as tall as Tanya.
This place makes no sense, Tanya thought to herself as she followed a bubble of gaze that rose toward the treetops. She followed the whims of the wind and rose high in the sky to such an extent that Tanya had to tilt her head back as far as possible in order to be able to continue observing her ascent. Then, all of a sudden, a kind of flying fish passed over her head, bursting the bubble as it passed. Surprised by what she had just seen, Tanya followed the fish with her head and noticed two things. First, it looks like someone was riding this animal. Second, the latter was heading towards a town.
"Well, my next destination has been found, however, I should make sure of the means of protection at my disposal…"
With that thought, Tanya mentally searched the clearing for a target so she could test the powers still at her disposal. Even if instinctively, she knew that without the orbs of calculations usually located at the level of her chest, the exercise will be much more complicated.
Normally, when a spell had to be activated, all you had to do was think about it so that it could be triggered. The calculation orb did the calculations itself, amount of mana needed, area to apply magic to and many other things to consider...
Without the presence of these, all these elements must be taken into account by the mage's brain, which will tend to greatly reduce the effectiveness of spells and increase the risk of accidents following their use.
Tanya then decided to test her abilities on a huge tree stump that towered over the clearing. The tree in question must have been felled recently because we could still see this last sunset on the ground. it wore the number 27, although the meaning still didn't make sense.
After a moment of reflection, she decided to experiment with the mage blade, it is a concentration of magic applied directly to a part of the body. By resonating and vibrating the mana in a certain way, the blade was able to slice through anything and everything.
By concentrating on her right arm and imagining the process of creating this blade, Tanya was able to materialize it, and once the blade was stabilized on her right arm, she began to make sweeping movements from left to right in order to move. to ensure that the latter would not disappear during handling.
Following this, she tackled the stump directly. A clean-up and down shot followed by a second left and right shot.
The cut was clean and precise, despite more effort to keep the blade running.
"It's pretty exhausting to keep the blade going," Tanya noted. "I should use the spell a few seconds before impact so I can save mana"
Once the observation was made, she started the experiment again, but this time by triggering the spell a few centimeters from the stump. The cut was almost similar to the first two but less deep because the spell does not have time to stabilize. Using the blade this way was less destructive, but it allowed Tanya to be able to use her spells longer without experiencing mental fatigue.
Satisfaction could be read on her face. She could at least retaliate if attacked. It's unlikely a human body could survive such a clean cut, Tanya thought proudly.
After the mage blade, she decided to try body strengthening. It was one of the most important spells for a mage on the battlefield, and more specifically for Tanya which allowed her to face the hell of the fronts with her small size while having twice the physical abilities of a soldier.
After a few minutes of testing on this same strain, the conclusion of the exercise was the same as for the blade. Very tiring to hold in place, unlike the blade, the spell seems to have kept the same effectiveness as in its previous world.
Tanya finished her exercise by delivering the biggest punch into the stump. Unsurprisingly her arm pierced the stump without much difficulty creating a hole about thirty centimeters in diameter around her small fist.
As for the magic shield, Tanya didn't feel any particular fatigue since her "waking up" in this world. Its use was passive and blocked small caliber bullets as well as weak melee attacks. However, when it comes to strengthening the latter in order to avoid heavy damage, it exhausted her body and mind as if she were using two blades at the same time.
"To be used in case of emergency so… I don't want to take the risk of fainting in the middle of unfamiliar territory or during an ambush.."
While thinking, Tanya noticed that her Luger was still attached to her belt. Checking the latter, she noticed that it was still in working order. The magazine was still in place as well as the 8 bullets that had remained inside.
Instinctively, she also checked the 3 pouches on those back pockets containing her extra mags. They were still there, securely fastened to her belt.
So with the magazine in Luger, and the extra three, that gives me 32 ammo... I should check the piercing optic spells if they work as well.
Aligning her right eye with the sights of her pistol Tanya fired a two-round volley at the stump. Unsurprisingly, the two bullets pierced the tree stump but continued on their way, piercing two or three other trees in their path.
This spell is extremely effective, especially since it requires no effort because the spell is already loaded in the bullets. The only downside is the limited use of 30 shots now.
In order to conclude the list of spells still usable, she decided to test her flight spell which would be very useful for scouting around her and being able to spot potential dangers.
By activating the spell, Tanya was able to take off more than 30 cm from the ground, but maintaining the ground was very exhausting, she felt that the fatigue felt during these 10 seconds was the same felt during the months spent on the Front of the Rhine. Then suddenly everything goes dark and Tanya loses consciousness.
Having no more control over her fate, Tanya's body flew in all directions like a balloon almost hitting a tree or the ground several times. Then after a few seconds. Tanya ended her race in the small stream that flowed along the clearing.
Upon contact with the water, Tanya immediately regained consciousness, catching her breath as if she had just broken the world's apnea record.
Trying to get up, Tanya could observe for the first time since her arrival in this world her reflection. Unsurprisingly, she retained the same body as in her second reincarnation.
Seeing this, Tanya kicked her reflection.
Tanya: "Of course, you had to give me that body, I swear the next time I meet you, I'll bleed you dry like a cursed pig Being Y."
Once on her feet, and extricating herself from the stream, Tanya headed for the center of the clearing which was undoubtedly the hottest place because the sun's rays were not hidden by the branches and foliage of the trees. It took half an hour for her uniform to be completely dry again. It was during this time that she then established her plan for the future.
At first, it was necessary to pass through the city in order to obtain information on this new world. Thereafter, in a second time, to obtain a little money in order to be able to feed. The first battle a soldier fights is that of survival. Being able to eat is an important step in this survival because a starving soldier is a soldier condemned to death.
Finally, the end goal will be to be able to join the army again, because it is the best way for a person who is nothing on the scale of society to be able to rise the fastest.
It is with a well-drawn plan that Tanya took the direction of the city that she had seen a little earlier.
