Ahem! Today…I'm going to tell you the story of the Thousand-Year Door. An awfully long time ago…in a strange and far-off land, a big, bustling town thrived. It was a town where all people lived happy lives. And it has been said that the town was very prosperous. But one day…tragedy befell this blessed town. A great cataclysm struck the town and its people. Darkness filled the skies, and the earth roared and shook. It was as if the very world came to a violent end. And in but a single night…the town sank into the depths of the earth… Many moons rose and set… Stories of the town passed into the pages of fairy tales…and when the town's site no longer held relics of the past…people gathered at that spot and built a new town. But word spread among the people who moved in…that an ancient city lay deep underground…and that a magnificent treasure rested there. Indeed… This is the tale of the fabled treasure of Rogueport. Yes, this is where it begins, in the sea town of Rogueport. The tale of the quest for the legendary treasure and the Thousand-Year Door… starts here.
…
Princess Peach complained, "Finally! I have a minute without Toadsworth watching over me! He's so paranoid! I came all the way here on holiday… only to be stuck with Toadsworth. It's so stifling!"
A girl around Peach's age was with her. She had short brown hair, green eyes, scars under both her eyes, wearing a purple hat with a snowflake on it, a charm bracelet, long sleeved purple shirt, with a black sweatpants, white socks, and white shoes.
The girl semi joked, "Wow, I feel the love, Princess…"
Peach was flustered, "You know what I mean, Violet…"
Violet stated, "I know. Relax, Peach."
Peach apologized, "You're right but at least you don't drive me crazy like Toadsworth does."
Violet replied, "Ah, he just does it because he loves you so much."
Peach responded, "Yeah, I mean it would be nice if he trusted me enough to look around on my own and see what I want."
Violet teased, "Without being kidnapped for the thousandth time. That's why you have Mario, Luigi, and I."
Peach blushed upon hearing Mario's name while Violet blushed upon hearing Luigi's name. Before Violet could say anything else, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom looked around the place.
She admitted, "But…now that we are looking around…all I see is that this town has a very…um…distinct flavor."
Violet stated, "No kidding."
"Oh, missy… Missy…"
Peach and Violet walked over to one of the vendors.
The vendor commented, "Won't you buy something? I have a wide assortment of knickknacks and doodads, but this is a special favorite."
That's when the vendor picked up a pretty box, showing it to the girls.
Peach commented, "Well, that's a pretty box! What's inside it?"
The vendor explained, "This box holds a map that shows where to find the treasure… But the box has a magic lock on it that will only open for a pure and noble heart. As you can see… It won't budge if one such as me touches it…"
The vendor showed what they had meant and tried to open it. But it didn't budge.
Violet replied, "How very interesting…"
The vendor looked at Peach and stated, "If the box opens for you, Missy, then you may have whatever is inside. Mwhehe…go on. Hold it…"
That's when the vendor gave Peach the box.
Peach replied, "I suppose I could try opening it…"
Violet started to say, "Peach wait a minute…"
But before Violet could even finish her warning, Peach had opened the box and out came a beautiful light.

Back at Mario's house, a Koopa Troopa had dropped off a letter in the mail. He turned to the house and put his hands to his face.
"Mail call!" He shouted as he flew off again.
Luigi came out of the house to get the mail. He took the mail and brought it into the house.
He shouted, "Hey, fratello! Check it out! A letter from the girls arrived!"
Mario came over to him, "Well, go ahead and read it."
Luigi cleared his throat as he read aloud, "Hello there, Mario! We're now on holiday, traveling in the Mushroom Kingdom. In our travels, I came into our possession of a mystical map… a treasure map, actually. It was inside a box I got from an old merchant in Rogueport. But since it would be too difficult for us to try to find treasure all by ourselves… I thought you and Luigi could help us hunt for it! You will, of course, won't you? I've included the map with this letter, so please bring it with you two when you come. We'll meet you at Rogueport. (That means you must come!) -Peach & Violet."
Mario was in deep thought, "So they want us to help with a treasure hunt? Sounds like fun!"
Luigi nodded in agreement, "Sure does!" He showed the map, "Here's the map she was talking about."
Mario took the map and took a look at it. Before either brother knew it, they had chartered a boat and headed out to Rogueport to meet with the princess and the ice wielder.
…
"Excuse me, sirs?"
"…"
"Please wake up, sirs! The town you two have been speaking of has come into view. Look! That's Rogueport!"
When Mario and Luigi opened their eyes, they saw the town of Rogueport.
Mario breathed, "Wow! It's amazing!"
Luigi stated, "No kidding!"
Mario turned to his brother, "Hey…thanks for coming with me."
Luigi replied, "Anytime, fratello."
"We'll be arriving shortly. Please prepare to disembark."
That's when the ship got to the dock.
"I must apologize, sirs. Our arrival was delayed just a bit by rough weather… Are you two quite sure that you want to disembark here?"
Mario confirmed, "Yes, we do."
