Usagi's original idea was to meet Hatori and Shingo at the arcade over a milkshake. After all, not only did they have excellent desserts, the place held a particular fondness for her since she first saw Mamoru there.

Ah, her Mamo-chan, her hybrid lover, who was pacing the floor even though they had a veritable regiment at their side. He had absolutely insisted on everyone being present to meet the Police Chief.

At first, she had rolled her eyes over his worrying about meeting her relations. Then she laughed when she discovered his worry was the human. That didn't last long quickly; his response melted her heart and made her kiss him. His worry was more for Artemis, Yamato, and Minako. He explained that was their superior and that whatever happened could affect their careers.

Usagi's response was to remind him she killed the monster that blew up the police station. Besides his relation to her, he would appreciate what she did. He alluded to as much on television after Diamond's head was found on a pike.

Still, she had lived centuries and understood theatrics and how far they went to achieving one's goals. She had a deep affection for her relations, descended through her brother's line already. She didn't want to take any chances with how their affections stirred over family ties. Obviously, Shingo had stayed close to his family line, unusual among vampires, so that showed he held a connection to the bonds.

She sat on the couch in the penthouse with Mamoru to her left. Despite his protests, she insisted Yamato sit on her left. She then had Rei, Grandpa Hino, Jadeite, Luna, Artemis, Minako, Kunzite, Nephrite, Makoto, Ami, Zoisite, and Motoki stilling on chairs and couches around the room.

When Hatori and Shingo arrived, Motoki insisted on showing them in. He was a humble man and was trying to find a role he could fill. He knew he and Mamoru were close, but he knew he might want something more. He couldn't get Usagi's offer to make him a vampire out of his head, and if he ever decided to take her up on that, he wanted to already have a place.

He showed them both to two plush captain's chairs across from the couch that Usagi, Mamoru, and Yamato sat on, and Hatori sat quickly. When he did, he looked up at his grandfather in confusion when Shingo bowed respectfully and said, "Queen Usagi, my King, I pay you the deepest respect."

Usagi smiled at him kindly and said, "feel free to be seated. You are too kind, but you need not be so formal. We are related, after all."

Shingo had just sat when the last part was said, and his head snapped to look at her. "Wait! You my Queen, you are my ancestor I am to meet!?"

"Yes." She gave him an affectionate smile and added, "you are from my brother's line. When my father, the King, was killed, he was twenty and newly married. She soon grew with child and…" she frowned. "Kind kings didn't last long. When his son was three, my brother and his wife were killed. A tyrant took the throne and ordered their son hunted down. I assured that they never found him."

"King?" Hatori asked.

"Yes, one small line of your ancestry is from European nobility. That's the reason for my blond hair and blue eyes. I took their son, William, south to Romania. I had some connections there. He grew up there, and then… the locals grew superstitious. I wasn't careful, and an odd woman who doesn't age visiting him year after year at night scared them. Funnily enough, they suspected I was a vampire; they were just wrong to fear me. I couldn't walk in the day —yet.

"So I got him and his family out. By that time, I had met a vampire couple from Japan and had been fascinated by the country. I relocated them here, and, well, I kept an eye on the family, but I was afraid to stay too close."

She frowned and bit her lip. "I came back after what happened to your son, Shingo. I hated that I wasn't there to help you. I got close enough to discover your family had welcomed you back and then left."

Artemis spoke up, "um, Usagi, when you saved my life…" he trailed off, then realizing he was making the discussion about himself, and that wasn't the point.

Usagi smirked, "I had just finished peeking in on my family one day, and I saw a boy drowning in a river. They were why I was there to save you that day."

She then turned to Hatori, "Ivan made you a vampire."

The absolute shift in the discussion shocked him, and his head whipped to look at her again. "How do you know!?"

"Because he was always a conniving little weasel. He knew I didn't want this for my relatives. And he found the opportunity to try to pull one over on me, and he did."

"I don't understand," Shingo said quietly.

She scowled, "he was part of the abduction of your son. He wanted to watch you grow desperate looking for him and then offer to turn you."

Shingo was still looking at her in shock. "I always wondered why he did what he did afterward. He enabled me to stop them, but…. I don't get his goal."

"He wanted me to know he turned you. The woman —vampire, that he loved was a nasty piece of work. She liked terrifying and then killing young women, so I killed her. He couldn't stop me, so he turned you and then planned to kill you in front of me when I returned to Japan."

"But it didn't work."

She smirked. "It's hard to fulfill your plans when you're dead. I killed him before he even knew I was in the country."

"Thank you," Shingo said, still reeling from what he had discovered.

"You've killed a lot?" Hatori asked. "I mean, at least three times…." He looked around and noticed the looks on everyone's faces. "Did I ask a dumb question?"

"I did kill Ivan, his lover, and Diamond. But can you live with knowing that isn't all?"

As much as Kunzite wanted to laugh, he was disciplined and held his emotions all in. Jadeite, on the other hand, lost his mind and started laughing. He roared, "'isn't all!' That's an understatement!" He had tears in his eyes from laughing so hard.

Rei lit a flame on the palm of her hand and glared at him. "I can make you stop laughing." That got him to shut up, and she easily extinguished the flame.

Shingo blinked and said, "a witch?"

"Yes," she replied. "A strong witch. What do you expect? I serve the Queen and King of the Vampire and Werewolves."

Rubbing his temple, Shingo said, "and the werewolves?!"

It was a long conversation that night. One that had Shingo just as shocked as Hatori through the whole proceeding.

Still, by the time they left, even Mamoru was assured of their loyalty to their family ties. And he looked forward to going back to being Yamato's intern. Hatori assured them he could get him reinstated after the bombing ended all the internship programs.
