Tanya Degurechaff POV
As soon as she arrived, Tanya was able to discover the training grounds. It was a huge expanse of grass, probably the only one on this island. The training areas were delimited by stretches of land forming squares the size of a tennis court. They were all dug deep into the ground to probably avoid collateral damage. There were precisely four pitches. Three of these lands were already used by soldiers.
On the last remaining court, Tanya noticed that a crowd was already waiting for the judging to begin. She immediately recognized the Admiral-in-Chief who was still wearing his characteristic cap. He was still accompanied by Vice Admiral Garp as well as Admiral Aokiji, but to her surprise, the man she had confronted earlier was not present. In his place stood another man who was dressed in a burgundy-red suit. A rose was visible at the level of his chest. Like all the other officers, he wore what Tanya called "a justice coat." His cap was to be the one given as an endowment to all soldiers of the Marine. A tattoo could be guessed on the left side of his body because if we concentrated enough, we could see the beginning of a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
When their eyes met, Tanya had a slight shudder, she could read an infinite ambition as well as an immense desire to show that he stood at the top. This man reminded her a lot of General Rudersdorf whom she had known in her previous life.
"If this man is like the general, I imagine he must have a very narrow view of things. He's the kind of man who unscrupulously sends children into a battlefield. I wouldn't like to be under him," Tanya muttered to herself.
The rest of the crowd was mostly ordinary soldiers, curious to see the results of the assessment. "It must be quite a popular event," Tanya concludes, noticing the excitement among the soldiers. Of this crowd, two people stood out either by their disproportionately large size or by their attire.
The tallest was almost 22'7 tall (689cm). She couldn't believe it, how can a human being have this surreal size? Tanya already thought the admirals were abnormally tall, but this was almost ridiculous. This titan was wearing a kind of gray pants with black dots. His top was an all-black jacket with a white circular symbol at his midriff. His eyes were white with no trace of pupils. He also wore a headgear the same color as his pants with the same patterns. You could see little bear ears resting on it. In his hands, a large book where the inscription "Bible" was legible.
The second meanwhile stood out with his kind of carnival disguise. "He reminds me of this French singer who wore clothes of this style, it seems to me that his name was Polnaroff? Polnaraff? Tanya thought while holding back a laugh. He had an open white shirt and pink pants with strange patterns on them. He also had smoked sunglasses on his nose. The most distinctive feature was his enormous pink feather coat draped over his shoulders and reaching down to his ankles.
These two men didn't seem to be from the Marine, maybe they were civilians authorized to move here.
Once Tanya arrived at the center of the training ground, a great silence replaced the general hubbub that had been there seconds earlier. She could see that the vast majority of those present were surprised by her presence. Surely they weren't expecting a little girl to take part in the assessment.
Sengoku finally spoke up: "Well, everyone seems to be present, we can start this evaluation. As I told you earlier Tanya, our place in the Marine will be determined primarily by power and merit.
Because of your abilities, we have decided to give you three opponents. A sergeant, a lieutenant, and a captain."
At these words, a middle-aged man emerged from the crowd and planted himself in front of her. He wore a classic uniform. He had a mask hiding half of his face. He had in his hands a sort of primitive Gatling gun. Tanya looked at him with such contempt knowing full well that her weapon would be ineffective.
"I wouldn't ask you to beat every person here," Sengoku continued, "but make sure you go as far as possible. Remember, your place is determined here and now." He approached Tanya and handed her Luger as well as the ammo pouch that had surely been confiscated when she was unconscious before turning around and resuming his seat.
The sergeant, who had been annoyed by her look, said to him: "I am Sergeant Kram, I will make you remove this look that you have been giving me for a while and teach you respect for the elders.
Tanya sighed: I'm Tanya Degurechaff, currently a temporary seaman, I'll do my best not to kill you.
The man in red next to Sengoku spoke up: "Remember, this is an assessment you have the possibility to hurt your opponent, but not to kill. The fight ends with the abandonment or the inability of the participants to continue.
The sound of a bell echoed throughout the field indicating that the fight had begun.
The sergeant wasted no time and began to engage his machine gun, which spat a hail of pellets in the direction of Tanya. But as expected, this had no effect because the magic shield stopped all the projectiles without difficulty. The balls remained suspended in the air for a few seconds before falling to the ground.
The crowd around did not hide its surprise, cries of incomprehension and many comments resounded all around the two fighters.
Tanya ignored the reactions around her, and walked towards Kram, walking calmly while continuing to stop the projectiles.
Once she got within three meters of the man, she stared hard at the man, telling him in a cheerful voice, "Okay, I don't have time to waste on small fry, we are instructed to not kill ourselves, that's good". Suddenly her gaze changed from amusement to a deep, icy stare.
She reached out and coated it with mana to activate her mage blade. She used it to cut through the machine gun without much difficulty, then landed a powerful kick reinforced by her magic in the face of her opponent.
Seeing that he still wasn't giving up, Tanya sat on the sergeant's chest and plunged her blade into the sergeant's thigh asking if he was going to give up now.
Never answered the sergeant, screaming in pain and trying to punch him in the face, but without success.
"Okay fine, I'm moving on" Tanya replied with a psychopathic smile on her lips and planting her blade in the other thigh while starting the process again on each member of her body. Her opponent screamed in pain as the crowd screamed in awe at the brutality and sadism of the fight. It was only after about ten minutes that the man lost consciousness from the pain.
Once Kram was knocked out, Tanya stood up covered in blood. Looking at Kram who was lying on the ground and in his blood, she wondered if she hadn't gone a little too far. A glance at the crowd told her that was the case. Their faces had turned livid. Only the man with the feather coat laughed at this scene, his laughter had a very uncomfortable side.
She walked towards Sengoku, who was trying somehow to keep a neutral face.
Tanya: Sir, I have completed the first test, can I continue?
Sengoku, who took some time before answering because he continued to stare at Kram, replied in the affirmative. He also ordered Sergeant Kram to be taken to the infirmary urgently as he continued to bleed out.
Once the ground was rehabilitated, and Kram evacuated, Tanya saw her next opponent. It was a young woman who appeared to be in her twenties. She had medium-length blue hair that came down to her neck and a pair of glasses on her forehead. She wore a green floral shirt and a blue jacket over it.
Young Woman: I'm Lieutenant Tashigi, let's put on a good fight.
The young woman was shaking, still visibly in shock after seeing the previous fight. In a way, the attitude of the young woman, as well as her way of speaking reminded Tanya of her former adjutant Visha...
Sengoku: "The rules remain the same as in the previous fight, I will just ask you not to send your opponent to the infirmary, I will need all the forces available for the next few days."
With his words, Sengoku stopped all chatter, it felt like the soldiers had even stopped breathing, creating a heavy atmosphere similar to a funeral.
"I wonder what they all have, why are they reacting like that?" Tanya turned back to Koby, who had stayed in to observe the fights, even he, who was carefree and always with a silly smile sported a serious demeanor.
"Okay, start!" Sengoku yelled.
Lieutenant Tashigi POV
A few hours before this evaluation, Tashigi had been warned by her superior, Captain Smoker, that she would be among the examiners for an evaluation. A feeling of pride invaded her at that moment. It was a real honor to be able to serve as an examiner for these evaluations, it proves that the work provided was recognized and of high quality.
She remembered her assessment, back then, she had passed her ordeal with Vice Admiral Momonga. She had lost her fight against him, but he had been impressed by her swashbuckling skills. But this experience will remain in her memory as a very good memory. By agreeing to become an examiner, she hoped to relive the same sensations. But the result was completely different from what she expected.
The confrontation with Sergeant Kram had made her nauseous. It wasn't even a fight, it looked like a torture session. And the smile she had while she stabbed the sergeant was creepy. It looked like she was enjoying it.
Tashigi put her thoughts aside and focused on her opponent, she was standing, her hands were behind her back, and she was looking at the crowd curiously.
The lieutenant drew her sword, took up a combat position, and waited for the signal to go.
Sengoku: "The rules remain the same as in the previous fight, I will just ask you not to send your opponent to the infirmary, I will need all the forces available for the next few days."
With these words, Tashigi had a cold sweat, the Admiral had just evoked the future war which will take place in a few days with the pirates of the crew of Whitebeard. She had talked about it with her colleagues, many were worried, and were afraid of dying, they were going to face the strongest man in the world. The faces of the soldiers told her that they were thinking the same thing as her.
"Well, start!" shouted the Chief Admiral.
Remembering the kind of shield she had used against Kram, Tashigi decided to engage in melee combat as soon as possible so that she wouldn't have time to deploy it.
Tashigi: Soru!
She moved at a very high speed, closing the distance between the little blonde and her. She seemed surprised because she was making big round eyes. Tashigi began the engagement with a thrust, but his sword met strong resistance. "Crap, she had time to activate her shield," she thought to herself. "But what devil fruit could she have eaten, maybe if I chain the attacks she will run out more quickly"
Tashigi: Ranga Cho
She then began to give saber blows while combining them with the Soru technique, which made it possible to chain attacks without the opponent being able to follow the rhythm.
But seeing that her shield still dampens the saber blows, she decided to change her technique and use the most powerful saber technique she mastered.
When Ranga Cho's last blow hit the shield, Tashigi took a step back, then began to circle the girl who was trying to keep up with her with great difficulty, then when she came to her blind spot Tashigi shouted "Usugasumi Senbonsakura !" Then cherry petals magically appeared before a horizontal saber slash hit the girl. She had managed to pierce the shield and hit the little girl on her left shoulder. Tashigi didn't cry victory too quickly as she noticed in horror that the girl had managed to grab her arm.
"She's going to stab me as she did had Kram?" wondered the young woman closing her eyes and gritting her teeth. However, she didn't feel a slashing attack, but a huge blow to her liver. She was thrown backward, she was preparing to hit the protective walls, but was caught in flight by her superior, Captain Smoker.
Smoker: You fought very well young lady, you should go...
Suddenly, Tashigi lost consciousness, the blow she had received to the liver was so powerful and the pain so lingering, that her body could not bear the pain. She let herself fall into the arms of her superior.
POV Tanya degurechaff
Tanya didn't expect a soldier to interrupt her duel with Lieutenant Tashigi.
"Well, I made sure to neutralize her without causing too much damage to her body" Her speed was quite impressive, luckily my shield was able to hold up. I will have to find a solution against this type of opponent as soon as possible".
She saw the soldier carry his colleague and entrust her to the soldiers who were behind him.
Sengoku: Congratulations to the two fighters, it was a rather impressive duel. Tanya, your next opponent will be Captain Smoker.
Tanya stared at the man standing in front of her. Without even speaking to her, she knew she wouldn't like him very much. She hated people who tended to smoke in front of her, and the man opposite broke all records.
The man of about thirty years had on his open white jacket about thirty cigars attached to his arm and on his chest. And to top it off, he had two lit cigars in his mouth. "His white hair is probably because of the tobacco" cursed Tanya in a bad mood.
Aside from the cigars, the man had strapped a jitte to his back which was most likely to serve as his primary weapon.
Sengoku: I see that both fighters are ready to fight. Without further ado, you can start.
This time, Tanya didn't want to be surprised as she had been with Lieutenant Tashigi.
So she decided to take up the fight herself. She braced her legs and threw herself at full speed on legged cancer preparing to give him a big knee in the chin. She noticed that the man was not moving, and remained motionless.
Tanya: It's up to you, if you prefer the fight to end like this, that's fine with me.
When her attack landed level with the captain's head, Tanya felt no resistance and slammed through Smoker's body. Thinking she had missed it, she repeated the experiment by trying to hit the back of his head. She then saw her fist pass through his head as if the latter had evaporated.
"He ate a devil fruit that turns him into smoke," Tanya concludes. She took a few steps back to develop a new strategy. But the man in white did not give her time.
Smoker: It's no use, your attacks won't work against me, I'll teach runts like you to stay in their place.
He immediately put his threat down by turning completely into smoke and using his "White launcher" technique, which allowed him to launch himself at her at very high speed.
Tanya seeing Smoker rush straight at her, reinforced her magic shield to the maximum. Her experience with Kizaru had made her realize that intangible bodies weren't stopped by the magic shield when it was passively activated.
She focused all of her mana on her shield, preparing to block it, but when she did nothing, Smoker slammed through her shield like nothing was trying to stop her and grabbed her by the blow while bringing her to the floor. He suddenly took his jitte and tried to plant it in Tanya's stomach. Even though the latter didn't directly touch her body thanks to the magic shield, Smoker pinned Tanya's small body to the ground.
By reflex, Tanya used a mage blade and gave a horizontal blow to struggle. Which made Smoker suddenly recoil, his jitte had just been split in two, and a small mark of blood appeared on his left arm.
"Magic attacks seem to work on this type of body, it's a good discovery" The captain seemed just as surprised as her when he looked at his weapon as well as his wound.
Tanya: I wonder if my luger could work against you, Captain.
Smoker: Don't kid yourself, I don't know by what miracle you were able to cut my jitte and hurt my arm, but firearms are useless against me...
Tanya then grabbed the Luger, pulled the loading lever towards her, and aimed for Smoker's right arm. The bullet crossed the distance between them in a flash and passed through the arm. To everyone's surprise, a spurt of blood came out of his arm.
Optical spells work too! I will have to make myself new ammo quickly because I will quickly find myself dry.
Seeing his injured arm, frowned and then suddenly rushed at her thanks to the Soru. Her body then turned entirely to smoke before knocking Tanya back to the ground. He was pinning one of her arms to the ground with physical strength greater than her own.
In response, Tanya swung her mage blade into the thick cloud of smoke hoping she could hurt him again. But her arm was blocked by one of his knees.
She was immobilized on the ground. Smoker then took the opportunity to put his smoked hand up to her mouth and nose.
She was nauseous as this smell disgusted her deeply. She panicked when she realized that this man's goal was to asphyxiate her. Then in a last fit of coughing, Tanya felt herself leaving seeing that her eyes were seeing more and more blurred and that the ambient sound was gradually decreasing. After a few minutes, she lost consciousness.
