POV Fleet Admiral Sengoku
Office of the Fleet Admiral.
Sengoku was still amazed, the results of the kid were prodigious and terrifying at the same time. When the fight ended with Captain Smoker, Sengoku requested that the wounded be taken to the infirmary. The young girl had lost consciousness due to the lack of oxygen caused by the captain's fumes.
Smoker meanwhile had his body completely slashed and suffered a gunshot wound. When his fight was over and he separated from his opponent, a significant amount of blood flowed from his wounds. Even if according to him it was nothing, and he had known much worse, it was still impressive to contemplate.
But what impressed the man in the seagull cap the most was the abilities used by the girl. Sengoku remembered all the abilities she had used during her fights. The most impressive technique remained the one that allowed her to injure the logia. Expecting Kizaru to talk about it is one thing, but seeing it in person was another.
While thinking, he heard a knock on his office door.
Sengoku: Come in!
The five people he had summoned had just arrived: Admirals Kizaru, Akainu, and Aokiji, but also Lieutenant Tashigi and Sergeant Koby who both looked tense, no doubt intimidated by the presence of all the admirals of the Marine gathered in the same room.
"Please sit down" pointing to the sofas in his office. "If I gathered you in my office it is to talk as you can imagine about the case of our new arrival Tanya Degurechaff. I would like your opinions regarding these abilities, and her behavior to determine her future rank".
It was Tashigi who spoke first: "Personally, having fought her, I find her to be a formidable opponent. During my fight, I felt like she's been through a lot of fights in her life, which is weird considering she's just a kid. Her abilities are fearsome and very dangerous, but I doubt it is a devil fruit. Also, I think with our training, she could become a real asset to the Marine in the future."
Aokiji nodded and turned to Tashigi, "Indeed, that's what we concluded too. I don't think she ate a devil fruit either. What worries me is rather her behavior earlier toward the sergeant. I have seen this kind of behavior before, and I am afraid that this event will happen again…"
Akainu: "I don't find it disturbing, she has the mind and the abilities to stop or neutralize pirate vermin. As far as her allies are concerned, she must enforce orders, it is not by being too nice to her troops that you gain respect".
Aokiji: "I imagine that's the kind of mentality you lead your Sakazuki troops with, which explains why you always come back with the most injuries or deaths from your missions."
"Only the weak fall in battle" retorted Akainu who was starting to get angry. It was starting to get red and hot.
Koby and Tashigi were almost curled up on themselves as the tension between the two admirals was strong. Tashigi was starting to bite her nails from the stress, while Koby stomped on the floor several times, trying to look as small as possible.
Sengoku: "Gentlemen please, no fratricidal struggle in the Marine and even less in my office."
The two men stared at each other before looking away without adding anything.
The tensions between these two are getting bigger and bigger every day, I'm tired of seeing them constantly quarreling... Sengoku complained to himself.
"Kizaru what do you think?"
Kizaru: "My opinion of her hasn't changed regarding that Sengoku saann girl. On the contrary, it only confirmed my suspicions. I find her dangerous, and unpredictable. However, I am aware of her potential, I imagine that a rank between junior lieutenant and commander would correspond well".
Sengoku: "Very well thank you Kizaru, and you Sergeant Koby, what did you think of Tanya during your observation?"
Koby jumped when Sengoku addressed him. "Well, he started stuttering, she didn't seem as dangerous as you say. She seemed perfectly normal to me, although cold and quite distant. She categorically refused that we speak together on an equal footing, she wanted to maintain the professional barrier between us. But otherwise, nothing to report. That's why during her fight against Kram, I was surprised by her behavior."
Sengoku: "Thank you, Sergeant, I will take your remarks into account. Now, I would like to know who would like to have her under their command?"
The three admirals looked at each other and then one of them nodded and raised his hand indicating that he was volunteering to take care of her.
Sengoku: "Well that's perfect, until it's operational, Koby you will be her guide for the coming weeks. Given her memory loss, she will need time to relearn everything. I also want you to report to me or any of the admirals here and Garp any acts on her part that you think are reprehensible. She will also follow your training with Garp because there is no question that you fall behind.
Garp already knows, don't worry, Sengoku clarified, seeing the sergeant's puzzled face.
Sengoku had listened to everyone's arguments regarding the girl, overall he pretty much agreed with what he had heard. It could become a significant asset for the Marine and the Government in the fight against pirates. But you will have to keep her on a leash. This is why placed under the orders of this admiral, things should go well.
And as for her rank….
POV Tanya Degurechaff
A sharp pain in her throat woke Tanya, followed by a fit of heavy coughing. She felt like she had thrown herself into a burning house and sucked up all the smoke with a straw for hours. "That's why I hate those damn smokers" Tanya grumbled trying to spot where she was.
She was no longer on the training ground because she could make out an entirely white ceiling and walls. Looking around the room, she saw several beds separated by blue fabric curtains. On some of these beds were a few soldiers lying down.
It must be the infirmary, they must have taken me here after my fight against the cigar with legs.
Tanya saw a man coming her way who introduced himself as Doctor Fishbonen. He was a tall, broad man with a peculiar haircut that lay flat on his scalp. He was chewing on the remains of a fish skeleton. He wore a stethoscope, a blue shirt with light blue dots, and a yellow scarf. He was also dressed in light green trousers and like all doctors, a lab coat. He had a tattoo on his left arm that formed several waves.
Doctor Fishbonen: "Hello young lady, do you know how you got here? Do you hurt somewhere?"
Tanya: "If I remember correctly, I was fighting Captain Smoker, and he smoked me until I suffocated."
Dr. Fishbonen: "Largely yes, but there is also fatigue. When you arrived at the infirmary, and we had to make the first diagnosis, we were amazed at how much your body had been strained. Truly extreme fatigue can be dangerous".
Tanya: "And what would be the cause doctor?"
Doctor Fishbonen: "It's not the first time I've seen this. Very often it is the young recruits who find themselves in these states after training on the mastery of the six powers. Since they don't know their limits, they tend to abuse their bodies until they let go and end up in my house."
In the meantime, I will ask you to take these medications three times a day for at least four to five days.
While giving his instructions, the doctor placed a small jar filled with small yellow balls on the bedside beside the bed.
Tanya: "How long will I have to stay here?"
Doctor Fishbonen: It will depend on your body, but I think a good night's sleep should suffice this time. But remember, I'm the one authorizing outings.
With that, Dr. Fishbonen turned around and went to attend to another patient who was on the bed across from Tanya's.
"I should rest a bit if I want to get out of here, I couldn't prove myself if I constantly stay in the infirmary".
Tanya grabbed her quilt and rolled herself up inside like she was cocooning herself. She snuggled her head into her pillow and closed her eyes. The rhythm of her breathing becoming slower, she allowed herself to sink little by little into the world of dreams.
The next morning: Infirmary
Tanya felt the sun's rays streak across her face. She was placed horizontally in front of the window, nothing prevented the light from dazzling it. The young girl then grabbed her pillow and placed it on her face to find the darkness and try to go back to sleep.
It was only after about ten minutes that Tanya decided to get up. She got up and sat against the headboard, yawning until her jaw dropped. With nothing to do, she let her gaze wander around the room.
The number of patients had not diminished during the morning, most still sleeping in their beds in a sleep so deep that nothing seemed to be able to wake them.
The doctors, meanwhile, went about their business. Some prepared herbal remedies and others cleaned the various medical tools. She also saw two doctors walking back and forth between the patients to make sure everything was okay.
The particular doctor Tanya was looking for is Doctor Fishbonen, the man with the weird haircut hadn't arrived yet.
It must be early, Tanya thought. From the low position of the sun in the sky, she had concluded that it must be between nine and ten o'clock in the morning.
The doctor appeared during her breakfast, which a nurse had brought a little earlier, a small bowl of rice with an omelet accompanied by a hot chocolate. Tanya asked the nurse if she could have a black coffee instead of her chocolate, to which the nurse replied that she was still too young to drink coffee.
A vein had then become apparent on Tanya's forehead as she held back from yelling at her. The nurse had not even noticed her patient's annoyance because she had already left to take care of another patient.
Doctor Fishbonen: "Is the breakfast to your liking?"
The Doctor suddenly appeared in front of Tanya, who hadn't noticed that he had approached her.
Tanya: "I wanted coffee, I'm tired of being taken for a child..."
Doctor Fishbonen seemed amused at the answer as his face sported a big smile.
"You know?" Continued the doctor, "there is a popular belief among doctors which leads us to believe that coffee will stunt the growth of children if consumed in their early years."
Tanya looked at him horrified, during the first years of her life she was always shorter than average. This was explained in particular by the lack of access to food during her life in the orphanage and then the hell lived on the battlefields and training. She hoped that in this new world she could grow normally.
Doctor Fishbonen: "Okay, I'll start your examination to see if the night's sleep was beneficial to you."
The examination lasted a few minutes, the man mainly checked her breathing as well as her heart rate using his stethoscope. He also asked if she felt discomfort or discomfort somewhere. Having answered in the negative, the doctor then gave his instructions.
Doctor Fishbonen: "You will continue to take the medicine I gave you yesterday for a week. As for training, you can start your sessions tomorrow. Today is rest."
After thanking the Doctor and leaving the infirmary, Tanya went back to the library. She hoped to find some interesting information.
Once there, she noticed that there was no one there again, which did not bother her, quite the contrary.
She reserved a small armchair near the window, putting her suit jacket on the back, and went for a walk among the bookshelves of the library. After a few minutes wandering among the shelves, Tanya returned to her chair with a few books in her hand. Her choice had fallen on a map of the world, as well as an encyclopedia listing the fruits of the devils known to the Marine.
A few hours had passed since Tanya began her search, the rumblings of her belly had made the little blonde realize that she was hungry and that it was time to go eat.
The time spent in the library was fruitful. The study of the map allowed her to understand certain things about this world. At first glance, this world was made up of a single continent called "Red Line" which circled the planet. Mostly, the globe was covered by four oceans: North Blue, South Blue, West Blue, and East Blue. She understood now why the Marine was fighting against a wave of pirates. The dominance of the oceans was to favor their appearance. In the absence of other continents on the map, hundreds of islands were listed on the documents.
Everything became clearer thanks to this card. The islands were most certainly to be independent of each other, as their names, which differ from each other, suggest: Kingdom of Alabasta, Kingdom of Drum… She had also determined the name of the island on which she had appeared based on her reasoning on Marineford which was indicated on the map and the approximate duration of the boat trip when she was held prisoner: the Saboady Archipelago
The presence of a World Government would imply that all these kingdoms have chosen to create this body to have a common guideline just as in its world of origin with the United States of America with its 52 States or the European Union with its twenty-seven member countries which followed the directives of a European government. On the other hand, the presence of a large area crossing the globe horizontally called "Grande Line" must have been a fairly busy maritime passage.
The devil fruit Encyclopedia also taught her some things about these mysterious fruits. First, there can only be one devil fruit user in the world. When the latter dies, the fruit will reappear somewhere in the world. Second, even if two people bit a devil fruit, only the first person would benefit from the powers. Third, a person can only consume one devil fruit in their lifetime or risk their body exploding.
The encyclopedia also listed all of the devil fruits known to the Marine to date. Flipping through all the pages, Tanya spotted one or two devil fruits that might be interesting, finding them could increase her chances of survival in this world.
On the way to the cafeteria, Tanya passed several soldiers who all had different reactions. Some just ignored her, others looked sympathetic and greeted her on the other hand, a large majority shunned her like the plague. Surely they remembered her assessment and didn't want to stay near her. But Tanya didn't care about the eyes of others, what mattered most to her was her survival and her evolution in the Marine.
When she arrived in the dining hall, Tanya spotted a small unoccupied table next to a large concrete pillar. After a whirlwind trip to the self-catering to get her portion of food, she joined the small table and began to eat.
She barely had time to start her meal when she heard a familiar voice call out to her at the entrance to the cafeteria. Turning to the origin of the call, Tanya recognized the pink-haired sergeant walking towards her.
Koby: "Tanya! I've been looking everywhere for you all morning. Fleet Admiral Sengoku summons you to his office, it's about your integration and your rank."
Tanya raised an eyebrow and glanced at the young sergeant before asking how soon she had to go to the Fleet Admiral's office. To which he replied that the sooner the better.
She finished her meal and took the medicine prescribed by the Doc as quickly as possible before getting up and heading for the office accompanied by Koby because she didn't know where to find the meeting place.
The journey only lasted a few minutes before arriving in front of an enormous double wooden door. The office was near the interrogation room she knew well now. Tanya saw Koby take a deep breath before knocking on the door and announcing himself.
A deep voice came to them, inviting them to come inside. Once inside, they discovered the Fleet Admiral with the man in the red suit who had intervened during her assessment.
The room was big enough, enough to hold a desk with 3 chairs and two long sofas facing each other that were perpendicular to the desk. The decorations were quite minimalist, a large map of the world, a few cupboards containing documents and a few plants placed here and there in the room.
"Sit down," Sengoku ordered, gesturing to one of the two sofas as he joined them with the second man in the room.
Once settled, Tanya observed the mysterious individual. "He must be an admiral too, knowing that he intervened during my assessment and stood by Fleet Admiral Sengoku and Admiral Aokiji."
Sengoku: "Before we begin, I would like to introduce you to Admiral Sakazuki, also known as Akainu."
Tanya: "It's an honor to meet you, sir."
The man only answered him with a "Hum", he seemed more busy watching him up and down, as if he was evaluating him.
Sengoku spoke again: "I will go straight to the point, you will now respond to Admiral Sakazuki's orders. He has volunteered to integrate you into his branch. Don't disappoint us."
Tanya: "Yes sir!"
Sengoku: Regarding your rank in the Marine, to be transparent, it was the subject of many debates between us, but we reached a compromise. Because of your power, but also your memory loss and your seniority in the Marine, we have decided to assign you the rank of Junior Lieutenant for the time of your training before becoming Lieutenant afterward.
When her grade was announced, Tanya hid her joy behind an impassive face. She stood up making the military salute saying "Thank you, sir".
Once seated, Akainu spoke for the first time: Do not expect me to be tender with you, under the pretext that you are a child, I will treat you like any other soldier, I need strong elements under my command to eradicate this pirate vermin from the face of this world."
Tanya: "Well sir, I will show you the extent of my abilities and I will exterminate any target you designate for me."
Well, that's what I like to hear, Sakazuki replied, nodding.
"Fuck you go to war", thought Tanya, she could not be worse off, an overly ambitious officer, who only wishes death. "I will have to be careful and respond to his orders as best as possible so that I can obtain a safe position."
Sengoku: "Well, tomorrow you will start training with Vice Admiral Garp, you will be with Sergeant Koby so that you can have a bearing. Sergeant, I'll leave it to you to show our new lieutenant around town and show her the uniform shop. Not that I find your outfit inappropriate Lieutenant, just that no one will ever guess that you are a member of the Marine in this outfit."
After a glance at his colleague, the Chief Admiral continued: "You may dispose of."
Koby and Tanya: "Yes sir!"
As soon as the two young soldiers left the room, Koby spoke up:
"It's finally over, Admiral Akainu terrifies me, I don't like being in the same room as him… By the way, congratulations on your Lieutenant rank, you did a good job."
Tanya thanked Koby and started walking down the long hallway.
"You come sergeant, we have to go to town".
Koby: "Yes Tany.. um, I mean yes Lieutenant."
Koby ran to catch up with Tanya who was already a few meters ahead and they both headed toward the town below the fortress.
