Chapter 1 A New Story Begins

Prologue

January 24, 2016, the Men of Letters Bunker

Today was a celebration for a special day inside the bunker. For it was Dean's 37th birthday and they were all celebrating with a nice birthday party. They had already celebrated Charlie's birthday just nine days earlier on the fifteenth and now it was time to celebrate another. The two tables in the library area were placed together like one table and it was set with plates full of a peperoni pizza and a nice bottle of beer and a nice birthday cake in the center with candles still lit. At attendance was Sam, Charlie, Adam, Castiel who dropped by for the party and Ava who had arrived early that afternoon and it was now in the evening. Unfortunately, Neither Gwen nor Madame Bess were able to make it for the party since they both were attending the funeral of Madame Bess's recently departed younger sister Cassandra in Virginia.

Although, Madame Bess and her sister weren't particularly close and didn't see each other too often as they both lived far away from each other, she was still her family and the only original immediate family she had left since both her parents were already gone and she didn't have any other siblings. Both Dean and Sam understood when they called them and told them that they couldn't make it two days ago and wished Dean a happy birthday and sent their love. Dean didn't want or expect any presents and no one except Ava bought him one, but just being around family celebrating this day was enough for him. Anyway, they hadn't sang happy birthday yet, as they were finishing up their pizza and laughing, talking and just joking around when Sam decided to excuse himself and quickly stepped into the other room for privacy where he pulled out his iPhone and decided to give Gwen and quick call.

"Hello, Gwen" he replied. "Hello Sam, good to hear from you" she told him.

"You too, so how was the funeral?" he asked her.

"Oh, it was as expected, being surrounded by relatives I've barely seen or spoken to or some I never met or remember and close friends of my great-aunt that I don't even know. We paid our respects and went back to the house, and everybody just went on how lovely and great she was, and all then just talked about their everyday lives. I got bored after a while but, she was my great-aunt even if I didn't see her too much growing up and it made me a bit sad that I wasn't closer to her" Gwen replied.

"Well, how is your grandmother doing?" Sam asked.

"She's doing okay, I mean she seems to be taking it well, she's not crying or anything, but I think she feels the same as I do, that they hadn't seen each other more often as she would have liked. It was so sudden even though we expected it to happen someday, she had suffered two strokes and could no longer take care of herself, had a nurse looking after her" Gwen said.

"Well, I'm sorry about your loss anyway, at least she's in a better place, I guess" Sam replied.

"Yeah, I reckon, anyway, we're spending the night at the hotel since her three kids and their families, are staying at the house and it's quite crowded. They're already talking about the will, and I think they are going to sell the house now. Grandmom is talking to them right now. Anyway, how about you, how are things going at Dean's birthday party?" she asked him.

"We're just finishing up dinner and then will sing happy birthday and Dean will blow out his candles and we'll have some cake" Sam said.

"I still wish I could be there with you guys, me and grandmom both" she told him.

"I know but we understand, family is still family, tell your grandmother hi for me and that I'm sorry about her loss again" Sam said.

"I will, anyway, tell Dean we are both thinking him and wishing him a happy birthday and we hope to attend the next birthday if we can, I certainly won't miss yours if I can help it and hope you don't miss mine." Gwen said.

"I'll keep you to that, and I will make sure I don't miss yours if I can which is next month" Sam replied.

"Hey, Sam, where are you we are about to blow out the candles, hurry up!" yelled Dean.

"Oh, I guess I better be getting off now and back to the party" Sam said.

"Yeah, I heard, goodbye, Sam and thanks for calling, I miss you" Gwen told him.

"I miss you too, will be seeing you soon" he said right back.

They both said their goodbyes and hung up. Just as he was hanging up, Sam suddenly started thinking about someone else as he remembered this wasn't just Dean's birthday but somebody else's as well. Somebody who had meant a lot to him in the past and if that person were still here on this planet, they would be celebrating that person's birthday too. Sam remembered Jessica and how ironic it was that she shared a birthday with his brother. Today would have been Jessica's 32nd birthday today and if she had been alive, they would likely be celebrating it together. Even though he's with Gwen now and has never regretted having her in his life, he couldn't help but wonder what his life with Jessica be like if she never died. That was something that always stuck with him deep down no matter what.

"Hey, Sam, come on, its time now, what the heck are you doing!" cried out Dean.

Sam broke out of his thoughts and just headed back to the room where the others were.

"Hey, Sam what were you doing, taking a nap or something?" Dean replied sarcastically.

"No, I just called up Gwen to see how she was doing and the funeral and all" Sam said.

"Well, I hope they both are doing okay and all" Dean said.

"Yeah, Gwen just wanted to wish you another happy birthday on behalf of both her and Madame Bess" Sam said.

"That's nice and all and as much as I'm feel for both of them and sorry about their loss, their no time for sad stuff it's a birthday party" he told Sam.

"Yeah, time to sing happy birthday" Charlie said.

"Oh boy I always cringe at this part" Dean replied.

"Hey, birthday guy it's tradition let's all sing Dean happy birthday" cried out Adam.

Soon they all joined in singing happy birthday to Dean as he just looked a bit bashful and afterwards Dean blew out the candles on the cake and had made a wish. Ava gave him a nice birthday kiss on the lips and gave him her present which was nice wallet as his other one was quite old. The wallet she gave was much better and Dean thanked her with a nice big passionate kiss while everybody just stared. Sam was still in thoughts about Jessica since remembering that this was her birthday too made him think about to the events that happened just this pass November which was the tenth anniversary of her death and what he and Dean went through. For Sam, it was a chance to find real closure and to honor her memory and he didn't regret a thing about it. It was the only few times he thought about Jessica and remembered the special person she was and how she didn't deserve to die especially for him and that he would never forget her no matter what, not even the years passing by and giving his heart to another woman could ever make him forget. "Happy birthday Jessica" Sam thought to himself then he joined in getting some of the birthday cake, enjoying the fun on this special day.

November 1, 2015, Eureka, California

Dean and Sam were now in their motel that morning recuperation from their last night's ordeal on Halloween. It was quite a night for them as they spent it trying to defeat the boogeyman, an actual creature that arrives once a year on Halloween to carry off naughty children in his sack never for them to be seen again. Sam had come about the case in the article over the internet about the strange cases of missing children every year on Halloween in the city of Eureka and even though there wasn't anything in the article that hinted supernatural which is probably why they never hear about; they couldn't help but be curious especially since it was reported it had been going on for decades to their shock. Besides, both of them were feeling a bit guilty that they had missed this story and if they had gotten to it earlier, maybe they could have saved some children if they anything supernatural was tied to this case.

They arrived in Eureka, California the day before Halloween after a two-day trip and spoke to the families whose kids were missing and even spoke to a little girl, without their parents' knowledge who claimed she saw a monster carry off her fourteen-year-old brother in a sack out into the night the previous Halloween, although her parents nor anyone else believed her. With the assistance of the city's librarian and historian, they both learned that the lore of the boogeyman is actually the spirit of a man who when alive many decades ago, was crazy man who dabbled in witchcraft and kidnapped children, tied them up and carried them in a sack, brought them back to his shack in the woods and sacrificed them, using their blood for rituals and potions hoping to make him immortal someday. He was actually killed by a group of vigilantes who tracked him down at the shack and rescued the latest kidnapped children on Halloween.

They figured it's his spirit that is going around kidnapping children in the city every Halloween out of revenge. Dean and Sam managed to find his remains which were buried in the woods to cover up the killing with the help of one of the men who participated in this death, rescued the other younger sister of the boy that was taken the year before, and fight for their own survival, although the former vigilante was killed by the boogeyman in the process and finally defeat the spirit and returned the little girl to her family relieved that at least got to save her since they couldn't save her brother. Now, it's the day after, Halloween is over and it's morning and they've both already got washed and dressed up and are preparing for their long drive back to Kansas. However, Sam seemed bothered about something that morning as something that was really troubling him, and Dean couldn't help but notice.

"Hey, what's eating you, you hardly said a word this morning? I mean you still not hung up about what happened last night, it's sad that the old dude got killed and we couldn't do anything about it, but it's no use in harping on about that I mean we at least got to save all those kids" Dean replied looking curious about his brother's silence.

Sam had been sitting on the bed in deep thought and then he turned to Dean.

"Dean, I just remembered something that really hit me" Sam told him.

"What, Sam what's the matter" Dean asked looking a bit concerned.

"I remembered that tomorrow will be ten years exact when Jessica died" Sam said still looking a bit sad.

"Oh" Dean replied with a bit of remorseful look on his face. He knew Jessica was a touchy subject for Sam and he always felt bad about his brother losing his first love.

"I didn't realize, hey look I understand that could be rough for you" Dean replied sympathetically.

"When I realized that tomorrow will be that day, I couldn't help thinking about her and remembering ten years ago on Halloween was the last time I ever say her alive" Sam said with the same sad look on his face.

"Hey, I remember, that was the night I came down there to get you telling you dad was missing" Dean said who always had a small ounce of guilt of dragging Sam away from Stanford that left Jessica vulnerable to that demon who killed her just like it killed their mother all those years ago.

Sam just looked up at Dean.

"Hey, Dean you know I never blamed you, it was that demon Azazel, he was to blame for everything, for mom, for Jessica" he told him.

"I know, but hey look at least we finally ganked that S.O.B., but I understand if this is rough for you right now, thinking about her all this time" Dean said.

Sam turned back around staring forward. "I just can't help thinking what it would have been like if she was alive. Would we be married by now and have kids, would we have broken up and moved on, would I have ever told her about my life as a hunter and would she be able to handle it? So many what ifs" he said.

"Hey, I can just picture you settled down the two of you with a bunch of kids running around you a lawyer, coming home from the office telling each other about your day and then makes you dinner, a real boring Leave It To Beaver life" Dean said sarcastically trying to cheer Sam up a bit but it didn't seem to work.

"Really, Leave it To Beaver?" remarked Sam almost smiling but looking serious again.

There was a brief pause between the two of them. Then Dean looked serious again wanting to make his brother feel a bit better.

"Hey, I was just kidding, really Sam, I'm sorry this is rough with you and whatever you want to do, we'll do it, I mean do you want to hang out for while has some drinks to honor her memory, drive up to her gravesite, get plastered drunk, we'll do it" he told him.

"That's it" Sam said turning to face Dean again.

"What's it, what did I say?" Dean asked curiously.

Sam stood up from the bed and turned to Dean. "We're going to Palo Alto where Jessica grew up and was buried and visit her grave and then I would like to visit her family and give my condolence" he told him.

Dean was a bit weary of all of this as he didn't think Sam would really suggest they drive down there although he meant what he said that he would do whatever Sam wanted. "Gee, Sam, I mean it's been years since you even talked to her family and all "he told him.

Sam just had a bit of guilty look on his face. "I know, I mean I never went to her funeral and never got to give my condolence to them, partly because I just couldn't face them knowing what happened and feeling I was to blame, but now I think I can, and I should. I really need to do this Dean" he said.

"Alright, Sam, I mean if this is what you really want, we can head out there right now instead of heading back to the bunker, but we'll have to call Adam and Charlie and let them know we'll be taking a bit longer to get back" Dean said.

"We can head back to the bunker the day after, but I really want to be there tomorrow to honor her memory, visit her grave, pay my respects and all" Sam said.

Okay, that's what we gonna do than" Dean said.

Just before they were about to leave the motel, Dean called up Adam on his iPhone and put it on speaker for both him and Sam to say hello and tell him and Charlie what's going on. Adam also put his phone on Speaker so Charlie could say hello too. Both Adam and Charlie couldn't wait to fill them in on what they did on Halloween which was watching a double feature horror film at the theatre out of town and then hanging out a Halloween party at a bar where the staff and some and the other customers were dressed in costumes making them feel like the odd ones out since they didn't wear any. Then Dean informed them of their plans.

"Hey, you two, we needed to let you know there is little change in plans. We won't be arriving back today but instead heading out to Palo Alto, because tomorrow will be exactly ten years when Jessica's Sam's first love died, and he really wants to drive out there and pay his respects" Dean told them.

"Wow, I remember you telling ups about her, we're really sorry, we had no idea" said Adam.

"Yeah, that goes the same for me, we understand, it's okay if you need some time, take as long as you like" said Charlie.

"Well, we will head back the day after tomorrow, so we won't be staying there long. Anyway, thanks for understanding, you guys" Sam said.

"Anytime, just get back safe" Charlie said.

"We always do and glad you had great time on Halloween" Dean said.

"Thanks bro, sorry you couldn't be there with us but good luck on your trip" Adam told them.

Within in minute they said their goodbyes and hung up. Then the two were ready to go.

"Okay, now off to Palo Alto" Dean told him.

"Yeah, said Sam looking a bit uncertain.

"Hey, Sam, you're sure about this?" asked Dean.

"Yeah, it's just been a long time since I've been there and all and thinking about Stanford and it's just really bringing back memories but there's no turning back let's go" Sam said.

"Okay little bro, we're off" Dean said and soon the two were exiting the motel with all their things packed and entering the Impala and soon they were driving off to their next destination which was Palo Alto and whatever that's about to come of their trip.

This is my first chapter of my sequel, I know I stated I would post them in September, but I had so much going on and I'm still catching up writing the chapters. Although this week the final episode will air, I will continue writing this fanfic and maybe a third sequel to this one. I don't know how long the chapters will be, but I will try to shorten them this time around. Hope you all enjoy and please give me reviews.
