Here is a short chapter…..
Satoru sat down at the back table in the arcade and slid a small envelope with a sim card in it over to Sapphire. "Here's my proof."
"Proof of what?" Sapphire asked, hoping it was convincing evidence that the man really was on their side. He knew Usagi believed the man, and she'd had centuries more experience with people, but he had one issue with it all. If the man betrayed them, Naru would be hurt the worst in the fallout.
He leaned back on his chair. "The angle sucks since I was afraid of making it too obvious, but it's a video of the meeting. It starts before anyone arrives and continues past when everyone leaves."
Sapphire raised one eyebrow, "The Order met again?"
"Yeah, last night. I called the meeting under the pretext of 'damage control.' The members all appreciated that I warned them about Niko's arrest before it hit the news this morning. Every member has called me today, thanking me for the heads up."
"Yeah, that group of yours is pretty powerful. You'd be surprised what we had to do to get his file unsealed and made public."
Satoru frowned, "It's not 'my group.'"
"I hate to break it to you. But it is. You're even the Kanto regional president now." Sapphire paused and thanked Motoki for his coffee as the man had come to their table to deliver their drinks. He didn't want to let on that Motoki knew about them at all since he was human and not on The Order's bad side. Being an ally to them all would change that, though.
Once the waiter left, Satoru said, "I'm not on their side though. Remember?" he asked, pointing to the sim card in the envelope.
"I hope so," Sapphire said, grabbing the envelope and tucking it in his pocket.
"You don't believe me?"
"Would you respect me if I did fully? Sure, Usagi's on board with trusting you. Apparently, she's convinced you wouldn't betray the woman who slaughtered your sister's rapist and murderer. But I'm more concerned about Naru and her heartbreak if you betray us."
Satoru blinked at him and stayed quiet. He contemplated Sapphire's implication that his distrust showed his love for Naru. "Doesn't it hurt her if you don't believe me?"
"Nope. She's fully in happy mode with you offering to help us and claiming to be on her side. And she told me she feels free to do just that because she knows I'll be cautious and keep an eye on you." Sapphire gave him a large over-exaggerated smile, his teeth slightly elongated, and added, "Hurt her, and I'll be every bit the monster you believe my kind to be."
Satoru nodded solemnly. "You have killed, haven't you?"
Sapphire smirked, "Absolutely." He leaned forward, elbows on the table, and added, "It was against my will and forced on me by my asshat brother and my bitch sister. They're dead now, and I couldn't be happier. Rei killed my sister, and Usagi killed my brother, then ripped off Diamond's head and had it put on a stake outside the police station."
"Diamond?!" Satoru whispered harshly, eyes wide.
"Yup," he said, popping the p. "I knew the bombing was coming, and I could do shit about it."
"Does Naru know?!"
"Yes. And it was me focusing on my love for her that enabled me to fight against Emerald's magic. It was enough to betray them by telling Usagi how to defeat my nearly immortal brother. Do you know what an Immortal is?"
"Yeah. I didn't know it was possible to kill them!"
"Rip out the heart and roll it in ashes." He smirked. "It was my sister's ashes that they rolled his black heart in. Once he was dead, I was released and told Naru everything. She didn't walk away from me even though she probably should have." Sapphire scowled. "It would have protected her from Rubius."
"Who you killed," Satoru pointed out.
"Is that a complaint?"
Satoru smirked, "No, it's a compliment."
"No comment on my being forced to serve Diamond. Do you even believe me?"
"I don't know you well enough to believe you about that. But I believe Naru, and I know she must have been convinced that you're telling the truth. She wouldn't put up with you otherwise."
Sapphire barked out a loud laugh. "You got that right."
