"I'm an idiot, I'm an idiot, I'm an idiot!"
I walked down the grassy path once more, bag in hand, heirloom around my neck, and my brain working at a million miles an hour. It took me until the moment I stepped out of Greenhorne and walked literally five inches that I realized how much I had messed up.
"I haven't even been in a fight," I said. "Why do I think I can just go up to the Dark Lord and put the fate of the world on my shoulders?"
Despite this panic, I continued walking, almost as if I had no control of my body. It was almost as if my body was saying "you are not chickening out on this one" while my brain was saying "STOP MOVING, YOU ARE GOING TO DIE". Of course, my body didn't listen. And right in the middle of it all, the Dark Lord Jaidan showed up.
"Oh my gosh!" I yelled as he spawned right in front of me. I then fell onto my back as Jaidan let out a maniacal laugh.
"Is someone trying to be the big hero?" He asked, mockingly.
I picked myself up off the ground. If there was one thing I couldn't do it was cower in fear. So, I tried my tough guy approach.
"Give Abby's face back, you fiend!" I yelled out. I don't know how I knew her name.
"What, you mean this," Jaidan asked, raising his hand out. Abby's face then fell to his hand.
"Yeah, that's the one!" I said.
"Maybe I will give you this one back too you," Jaidan began. "But you'll have to earn it!"
At that moment, Jaidan snapped his fingers, and in a cloud of purple smoke, the body of a yellow slime monster appeared. The tough guy act was completely gone. Jaidan could now fully see how terrified I really was.
"You ever been in a fight," Jaidan asked. "How good are you?"
I didn't say anything. I just gulped. Jaidan smiled evilly as Abby's face began to circle around the body of the slime monster. In a familiar flash of white light, her face had attached onto the body of the slime monster.
"Be seeing you," Jaidan yelled out. "If you survive, that is!"
Jaidan let out another evil laugh as flew back up to the sky. I then looked at the slime monster, my legs shaking in my boots. I had never felt more terrified in my entire life. And then the slime monster extended to my direction.
"NO!" I yelled, covering my face with my hands. The slime monster extended to attack as I braced for impact.
But I didn't feel it hit me. Confused, I opened my eyes to find myself in a blue and purple void.
"Where am I?" I asked myself, looking around the void.
"Am I dead?" I asked, almost as if I was expecting someone to hear me.
"No, you are not dead, Wyatt" a booming voice said.
I jumped back, frightened at the sound of the voice. What was that?
"Who's that?" I asked. "Who the heck is here?"
"Wait, you can hear me?" The voice asked.
"Yes I can hear you," I responded. "So I must ask again, who are you and how do you know my name?"
"Wyatt," the voice began, "This may be a bit hard to believe but I am kind of a...guardian spirit."
"Whaaaat?!" I yelled. "You're the Guardian Spirit! You're real!"
"Did you think I wasn't?" The Guardian Spirit asked.
"A little," I admitted. "I only heard about you a few minutes ago. But I'm glad I was proven wrong. This place must be how you're protecting me."
"Wyatt," The Guardian Spirit began. "I brought you here because it seemed that you were in some trouble."
"Yeah," I responded. "I was about to die!"
"You wouldn't mind a little help, would you?" He asked.
"Definitely," I said. "What can you do?"
"Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise," The Guardian Spirit said. "I know bestoweth upon thee the awesome power of the Guardian Spirit!"
From beneath my feet, a circle of light formed around me. The circle then shot up into the sky as several options appeared.
"Inside this circle of light, you will be able to choose a class to combat this fiend," The Guardian Spirit said. "I have six options for you to choose from. These include Warrior, Mage, Cleric, Thief, Pop Star and Chef."
"Pop Star?" I asked, confused as to why it was something so random.
"I just wanted one of them to br something a little unorthodox," The Guardain Spirit said. "Now choose your class carefully."
I carefully looked at the options, trying to figure out which one could work best for me. After a little deliberation, I finally settled on the warrior class and tapped my hand on that option. As it happened, the light got progressively brighter and in another flash, I was no longer just a normal mii. I was now a warrior with armor, a cape, and a sword. I looked at my body.
"Wow," I exlaimed. "This feels incredible!!!"
"That's just what you need to deal with the Dark Lord's fiends," The Guardian Spirit said. "Now fight, Wyatt! Make your foes fear you!"
"Wait how am I getti-"
I wasn't able to finish as I had been zapped out of the spirit world.
I opened my eyes to find myself back on the path I was on beforehand. And the slime monster was still there.
"I'm back!" I said. Immediately I faced the slime monster. "Here goes nothing!"
I charged at the slime monster, striking it with my sword. The hit didn't kill it but it took a chunk of its health off. The slime monster then extended to attack me. However, I dodged it very quickly. It then extended again, this time grazing my arm. It didn't matter though, because it was then that I struck it again with my sword. It flew a little bit backwards but wasn't dead yet. And then I slammed my sword down on it. The slime flew backward and hit ground, completely spread out. It was dead. The body of the slime monster then evaporated as Abby's face flew off into the sky. It was only then that I had processed what had happened.
"I did it," I said. "I DID IT!! Eat it, Sucker!"
"Excellent work, Wyatt," The Guardian Spirits voice rang out.
"Thanks," I said, putting my hand to my head. "It was nothing!"
"Now that child's face should be safe," The Guardian Spirit said. "Return to Greenhorne just to make sure."
I nodded in agreement and ran in the direction I had come from.
I arrived at Greenhorne, seeing that literally nothing had changed since I last left. I made my way down the town, passing by faceless Miis that I would have to get to soon, and then I eventually found Althea, who was still right by her daughter Abby's body. At the same time, Abby's face flew down to her body and after spinning around it for a bit, it reattached itself onto her body.
"I'm Back!" She yelled out. And that was when Althea pulled Abby into a tight bear hug.
"Abby," Althea yelled, practically crying her eyes out. "Are you okay?! You're not hurt, are you?!"
"Mom...I'm fine," Abby wheezed out, suffocating in the midst of the bear hug. "You're squeezing me too tightly! Can't breathe!"
"Thank the stars that you're okay!" Althea exclaims, not hearing Abby's concerns.
"MOM!!" Abby tried to yell out, her face starting to turn blue.
Althea lowered Abby to the ground and released her from the hug. Abby gasped for air as she was let go. Althea then turned her attention to me.
"Thank you, traveler," she exclaimed. "Take this gift as a mother's appreciation!"
Althea then handed me a bag of coins. Itook it and then put it in my own bag.
"You're welcome." I responded. I then began to head out of Greenhorne.
"Wyatt," Chad's voice yelled out as I reached the edge of town. I turned back and found him running to me. "You're still going to save the rest of the faces here, right?"
"Not just the faces here, but the faces in all of Miitopia as well," I said to him. "Like I said, I don't go back on promises. And now that I've seen the deeds of the Dark Lord, I will fight this fiend until his end."
"Thank you, Wyatt," Chad exclaimed. "You know, there may be something more than meets the eye about you, Wyatt."
I nodded in agreement. I then turned back to the exit of Greenhorne and left once again, this time confident in myself.
