A beam of light played over the room, picking out dozens of beady eyes glittering like stars. "How many animals are here?" asked the man.
"About a hundred." The young woman moved around, pointing out the various cages. "Mostly mice, a few rabbits. Poor little beggars, I can't wait to set them free."
"Start loading them on the cart. I'll be right back."
"Where are you going?" asked the girl.
The man grinned. "I want to check out the rest of the place. I might find something useful." His companion hesitated, and he snapped, "Get on with it! I'll be quick as I can."
He was gone so long that his companion finished shifting most of the cages to a big cart before he returned to help her move the rest. The cart was so heavy it took both of them to move it, but working together, they pushed it through the double doors in the back of the facility, where they opened the cages and let the animals out in the fields.
