Sonic Dark Era

After the disappearance of the Chaos Emeralds, a new source of energy never before seen in Red Mountain appears. Meanwhile, strange events occur all over the planet: some characters disappear and some elements act strangely. Note: This is my first FanFic, I don't plan to place it at some point in the chronology, this story has been written by me in Spanish and then I translated it.

1. Prologue: Gliding in the shadows

Prologue:

From deep space a meteorite is heading towards the surface of the planet Mobius following an erratic trajectory, the space body crashes into Red Mountain. Because of the impact the outer layer of the meteorite has burst but the core is intact, it is a dark crystal of irregular shape with sharp and pointed edges, it seems that rather than reflecting it expels the light it receives, and it has a thick and dark aura around it.

One of Eggman's laboratories, in an unknown location...

Eggman looks at the largest glass cylinder in his entire dark laboratory, inside are the remains of Metal Sonic floating in a green liquid, Metal is in tatters from his last encounter with Sonic.

"Ah! Sonic!" Eggman cursed crossing his arms and looking away from the large container "That blue rat would never understand the greatness of my works, he just runs around with his friends, destroying all my magnificent creations over and over again" Eggman looked back inside the crystal "If only I had something to boost them beyond their capacity, Metal Sonic was one of my best ideas, he's been able to rival that hedgehog pest as an equal more than once but it's not enough anymore, Sonic always ends up winning."

Orbot and Cubot appeared from behind a panel.

"And why don't we go back and get all the Chaos Emeralds again boss?" asked Orbot "You know that all of them together are capable of giving an amount of energy that makes the word 'unlimited' obsolete."

"Idiot! That wouldn't go over well!" Eggman exclaimed "There's no point in repeating a plan that has already failed, besides the Chaos Emeralds have been missing for months, giving no sign of anything."

"And what became of the phantom ruby?" Cubot asked-

"Nothing! Disappeared along with Infinite..." Replied Eggman "Hmm, repairing Metal Sonic won't cost me anything, but I won't do it only to have it smashed to pieces in a matter of days... I must find a never-before-seen power source and then crush that group of insolent people who oppose my inevitable Empire."

Eggman, Cubot and Orbot look at the remains of Metal Sonic, the water inside the cylinder drains and the crystal lowers.

"And when I find it, you, my finest creation, will be the first one I will upgrade" Eggman pointed at Metal Sonic and the screen that doubles as eyes sputtered on only to turn off again instantly. "That's why I've sent my badniks to search Red Mountain, since my sensors a week ago started showing that there's something large in that area giving off a lot of energy of a kind never seen before."

At that moment the larger screen lit up and Eggman pushed Cubot and Orbot away with a strong push to head over to look at the screen, where there was now an image taken by a badnik, on it was a huge, dark, irregularly shaped crystal that was embedded in the west side of the mountain, next to the image was a diagram showing "[ERROR]" in the percentage of power given off by the crystal, it was so much that it broke the machines computational ability.

"Ha! I knew it!" Said Eggman clenching his fists "I bet that's exactly what I need to get revenge on those vermin."
