Chapter 110: Regalia
"Naoto, come in." C.C called over her Gekkas radio as she, Clara, and Rolo patrolled the city streets.
"What is it?"
"Are you sure that Knightmare is around here?" she asked, "Because I haven't seen him yet."
"That's where Tohdoh was ambushed, so I don't know what to tell you." the Kozuki responded while being handed a tablet, "If he's not there, then we need you three to support the assault. I can't afford to have such powerful pilots on a wild goose chase."
C.C sighed while looking toward the sky, "I understand. But, Jeremiah is-"
"Vital to future plans? Yes, I know." Naoto returned the tablet to who handed it to him, "However, if he's already gone, then there's no point in a pointless chase."
Clara leapt onto a roof, cracking the shingles beneath her feet, "Wait! I've got something!" she shouted while concentrating on the main monitor, "Irregular movement approaching from the east! 600 Meter-no! 500 and closing fast!"
"I'll leave this to you." Naoto said as he overheard the callout, "Don't fail."
Rolo stood by Clara's side while holding his Naginata, "So Geass won't work against this guy?"
"Right. He's got a canceller."
"Seriously? I thought it was at least a few months from being finished."
"Well… it seems like they've had a breakthrough." C.C said while readying her revolving blade, "Keep focus, we can't allow him to get the jump on us."
"You who defy Britannia…" the Siegfried suddenly crashed through the building below, "Shall feel the full might of my Loyalty!"
Rolo and Clara clashed with the Knight Giga Fortress, feeling immense pressure on their Naginata as they were pushed back significantly by the spinning top. Finally, they were thrown off-balance, and into the distance, leaving C.C alone to deal with the cyborg, "Jeremiah!" she shouted while dodging his harkens, "We need to talk!"
"No!" the former Margrave proclaimed as he spun past her, and into the sky, "I will not hear out your pleas! Your life ends here, fiend!"
The Immortal clenched her teeth while getting tackled by the Siegfried, holding onto it tightly as it began spinning wildly once more, "Just listen… you… bastard!" suddenly, electricity coated the armor, sending a shock throughout C.C's Gekka, causing her to groan in pain.
Clara watched as C.C was thrown into her, leaving Rolo alone to fight the Cyborg. His Naginata turned blue as he enhanced the revolving speed, attempting to break through the impenetrable defense in one strike. The Siegfried concentrated its spikes into one area, and charged in.
"Th-this thing's tough!" the former Geass assassin commented as his weapon clashed with the Giga fortresses shield, "I… I can't break through!"
Eventually, the Naginata shattered, allowing for the Siegfried to crash through the Sougetsu, bisecting it in half, and forcing the auto-eject to activate, "Rolo!" Clara shouted as she watched the cockpit fly away, "Damn. C.C, what do we do?"
"If I can just get through to him…" the Immortal stood up, "We'll have a powerful ally on our team."
"So what? I just need to hold him still?" Clara asked as the Giga fortress turned on them, "It's gonna be like stopping a bull…"
"I know you can do it." C.C responded, "And hey, I'm sure you'll get extra brownie points from Lelouch if you do so."
"Seriously!? Then consider that bull stopped!" the girl's Sougetsu leapt onto a building with her Naginata held high. As her opponent drew closer, Clara kept low to the ground until it passed an unmarked line, which signaled for her to jump, successfully dodging the massive machine, allowing her to slash the cockpit.
"Ugh. Worthless swine!" Jeremiah shouted as he turned around, feeling air seep in from the small opening, "I'll make you pay for that!"
"Halt! Jeremiah Gottwald!" C.C leapt on top of the Giga Fortress as it rotated its harkens, "Lelouch Vi Britannia needs your help!"
"Vi Britannia!?" the cyborg came to a stop, "Lady Marianne's son!? Where is he!?"
"Uh…"
Just as C.C was struggling to come up with an answer, Clara chimed in by pointing toward the south, "That way! If the Black Knights fall there, then Lelouch will be in danger!"
"I understand!" Jeremiah took off, accidentally throwing C.C into a building.
"Thanks, Clara." the Immortal said, "I lost my bearings there for a second."
"No problem. What do we do now?"
"Let's retrieve Rolo first, then we'll head back to the Ikaruga. Our job is done here."
"So heavy!" Mario mumbled as the Gawain toppled over from the Zeus' kick. Luckily, before it could follow up, Maya fired the Gawain's finger harkens, forcing the Knight back, "I can't maneuver properly in this thing…"
"The Gawain definitely isn't built for dueling." his sister added as Rai flew circles around them, "Luckily, he doesn't seem to be too fast either."
"I won't be able to hit him with the hadron like this. Do you think you can hit him with the harkens?"
"Yeah. If I can get a good hold, I'll be able to dismantle the float unit."
"If that's the case…" Mario gripped his controls tightly, "Then I'll get you an opening."
"Going on the attack?" Rai mumbled while dodging a hadron beam, and moving closer to his opponents. Using his left Schrötter Steel blade, he lunged at the Gawain's chest, only to be blocked by its Blaze Luminous thanks to Maya's skillful redirecting the shield's power to that area. Though, Rai still activated the Zeus system, and sent an electrical charge through his blades, to no avail, "So… that doesn't work. Good to know." he backed away, dodging a harken as it tried grabbing his arm.
Maya began firing off her harkens relentlessly, leaving no openings for Rai to attack as he dodged with all his might. Eventually, Mario closed the gap, first allowing the harkens to return before sending a punch into the Club's chest, sending it flying backward. His opponent managed to recover midair and begin flying around them once again, attacking from behind, only to for the Gawain to quickly pivot, which he reacted to by flipping over them, and dragging his blade across it's shoulder, leaving a large gash in its wake.
"Ugh. This is hopeless." Mario muttered while diving straight down, dodging a slash harken aimed for his float unit, "The difference between our Knightmare's functionality is too extreme."
"Quit complaining!" his sister shouted as her slash harken clipped Rai's hand, taking off a finger, "Or are you saying you can't beat this guy?"
"Shut your trap!" the black-haired boy blocked an incoming strike with his arm, activating the Blaze Luminous in the process. He followed this up by delivering a high-kick to the Zeus' chest, knocking it upward, where Maya would successfully catch one of its arms with her harkens.
"Damn it…" Rai watched as the rest of the harkens grabbed his other limbs, holding him in place as the Gawain charged up its hadron cannons. At the last moment, he curled into a ball as the red beam was fired, engulfing him in fiery destruction, followed by a large black cloud of smoke.
"Hopefully that was enough…" Maya said as her harkens returned, which were released moments before the beam was fired.
That's when the Zeus burst through the smoke, delivering a kick to the Gawain's chest, causing the Disel siblings to groan in pain as the momentum carried them onto the main street, where a crater was made. "How did he do that?" Mario questioned.
"He must have one of those full-body Blaze Luminous thing…"
"What?"
"The thing Suzaku used against Kallen!"
"Oh. That…" Mario crossed his arms as Rai flew in for another kick, blocking it with the Blaze Luminous, "Though… if he has it, why hasn't he used it to block our harkens?"
The Gawain began flying away as the Zeus came in for another attack, narrowly dodging at the last moment. Rai tried firing a harken to catch the Black Knightmare's foot, missing as his target flew behind a building. Without hesitation, the Lancelot variant chased the Disel siblings around the corner, where he was forced to activate his Blaze Luminous cone as he came face-to-face with another hadron beam, "Alright, I think I saw it!" Maya shouted as Mario flew the Gawain upward, "It starts from his chest and covers the entire frame. So, it's definitely like the shield Suzaku used."
"Right." Mario watched as the Zeus flew out of the smoke, rapidly approaching them with its wrist blades sheathed, "At least it doesn't have any major range capabilities."
Rai dodged left as another hadron beam was fired, making a hard cut right once he reached the same altitude as his opponent, delivering a glancing knee to its head while passing through. The Gawain stumbled left as the Zeus did a 180, charging them with one wrist blade drawn. Mario lifted both hands, trying to activate his shield in time to block the impending strike, which his opponent noticed. Rai threw out is leg and lunged with a spinning kick, hitting the Black Knightmare's head, and forcing it to the right just as the shield appeared in time.
Maya kept track of the Club on her radar as it flew away, and began circling them, "Mario! He's coming in for another attack! From behind!"
The Gawain pivoted around, blocking a slash from the wrist blades, forcing his opponent to back away once more, and attack from the right, where it was stopped once more. Even so, Mario knew it was only a matter of time until their defenses were broken, as would be proven 2 rotations later, when Rai came in for a slash, which was blocked once again. However, instead of retreating, he flipped over the Gawain, which followed him by pivoting right, trying to turn around in time to block his next attack, only for the Club to fly left, where the Gawain's exposed back laid for him to freely plunge his wrist blade into.
Maya screamed in pain as the Schrötter Steel blades sent an electric current throughout their Knightmare, while Mario grit his teeth in an attempt to endure it. Through struggled breaths, he eventually managed to tightly grab the Club's head, only for his hand to get sliced off in the next second, "D-damn it… too far…" the Disel mumbled as he passed out from the pain, alongside his sister.
Rai withdrew his wrist blades and kicked the Gawain to the main street, "I used way too much for that…" he mumbled while taking stock of his energy filler, which was at 30%.
"Rai!" Nonette's voice called over the radio, "The Black Knights are pursuing us to the dock, but aren't forcing an attack."
"Good. Tell everyone to get ready. We'll be leaving soon."
"What about Suzaku?"
"Suzaku?" Rai clenched his controls, "So… he's not with you guys?"
"Not from what I can see."
"Damn. Well, we can't leave without him. Change of plan, tell everyone to set up by the docks. If the Black Knights are smart, they won't attack." the silver Knight responded, "I'll look for Suzaku-"
"My Loyalty!"
"What the-"
Out of nowhere, Jeremiah tackled Rai from the right, knocking him into the distance, "You, who challenge Lady Marianne's children, shall feel the wrath of Jeremiah Gottwald!"
"The Margrave!?" the Knight exclaimed while getting pushed back, "Damn… I can't win in these conditions…"
"Yo…" Suzaku called to Kallen as she leaned against a wall in her Guren, "You really… did a number on me back there…" he coughed up a bit of blood, and massaged his temple where a massive headache was present, "I'm gonna make you pay for that…"
"Seriously? This guy's relentless…" the red head mumbled while drawing her fork knife, "Why don't you get out of here, and go lick your wounds?"
The Lancelot drew its remaining MVS and went on-guard, "I've still got plenty of Energy filler left. How about you?"
Kallen scoffed while charging forth, "Why does it matter to you!? I'll still kick your ass regardless of how much I have left!"
"In your dreams!" Suzaku redirected her attack into a building using his MVS, before kicking her into a wall, "You got lucky last time, but now I'm taking you seriously!"
Overhead, Xingke and Tohdoh continued to fight relentlessly, with the former pushing back the latter with great ease thanks to the superiority of the Shen Hu's weaponry. With one slash harken, Tohdoh watched as it wrapped around his weapon, and pulled him toward Xingke, where he was forced to activate the thrusters, letting off a blue flame that aimed to decapitate the Shen Hu. However, the Chinese Warrior easily ducked the strike, leaving a light slash across the Zangetsu's chest with his short sword.
In the distance, he spotted the Ikaruga as it floated on the outskirts of the Vermilion City, "Empress!" he shouted while flying toward it.
"Damn. Naoto, he got past me!" Tohdoh reported while following after the Shen Hu, which was just a little bit faster than him.
"Seriously? Everyone, on high alert! We've got incoming!" the Kozuki ordered, "Lay down a wall of anti-air! Make sure there's no way for that Knightmare to get to us!"
"Wait! Naoto! Perhaps we don't have to fight at all!" Tohdoh suggested.
"What do you mean?"
"The Empress. Do you think she can get the man to stand down?"
"Um…" Naoto looked to the side, "I'll have to go get her."
"Then do it." Tohdoh watched as the sky lit up with fiery explosions, stopping Xingke dead in his tracks.
The Chinese Warrior turned around and blocked an incoming strike from the Miracle Worker, "I won't let you kidnap the Empress!"
"Just wait! You don't understand!" Tohdoh argued while positioning his back to the Ikaruga, which stopped firing its cannons, "Once you speak with her, I swear you'll have a change of heart."
"Liar!" Xingke retorted as his opponent dodged a harken.
The Miracle Worker felt a bead of sweat drop down his chin, and onto his dashboard, "N-no way…" he desperately blocked an incoming strike, only to get hit by a moon kick, sending him spiraling downward. Once the Zangetsu recovered, it caught a small glimpse of the Shen Hu's foot as it entered its blind spot, "I can't keep up anymore!?" Tohdoh groaned while feeling Xingke short sword pierce through his frame's left arm, ripping it off in one strike before kicking him away.
The Chinese Warrior then pierced the Zangetsu through the chest with his harken, and pulled it in for another strike, severing the remaining arm. Then, he began spinning the armless frame in circles, before releasing it toward the Ikaruga, crashing onto the bridge, "Now, it's over!" Xingke declared while landing on the ship.
"Xingke!" Empress Tianzi shouted while running out, "Wait! Xingke!"
"D-don't go out there! It's dangerous!" Naoto tried stopping the demure girl as she continued bolting for the Shen Hu.
"Xingke!" the Empress tripped on her dress, falling straight into the Shen Hu's hand, which somehow gently caught her.
"Empress!" the Chinese Warrior moved to take off, only for the girl to stop him.
"Wait! The Black Knights are here to help!" she pleaded while cutely climbing onto his arm, "Please! Just listen to them!"
Xingke stopped while lowering his Knightmare to her level, "What do you mean, Empress?"
Naoto walked onto the bridge, keeping a hand up while saying, "Xingke, the Black Knights want to restore Empress Tianzi's power within the Chinese Federation. However, to do so, it was necessary to kidnap her, drawing out the High Eunuch. But… from the look of things…" the Kozuki's eyes wandered to the city, "They appear to be a no-shows."
Xingke stayed in his Knightmare while saying, "They've been missing this whole time. Even after taking the Shen Hu, I haven't heard a word from them."
"That guy who took Lelouch… was he responsible for all this?" Naoto thought as he turned to the Shen Hu, "What will you do? Will you assist us in our coup of your flawed government, or will you fight against us, and continue the painful struggle of normality you face?"
"Normality?" Xingke opened his cockpit, "My loyalty lies with the Empress first. And if she has chosen to willingly side with you, then I'll fight alongside you."
That's when he noticed her trying to cutely climb up his cockpit, which he responded by hopping out, and helping her down, "Glad to have you aboard-"
"However." the Chinese Warrior's voice turned cold as he glared at the Kozuki, "If I find out Zero's planning on using the Empress for his own gains, just like the High Eunuch, then I'll make sure to bury him and the Black Knights."
Naoto groaned while hearing that last comment, "Fine. Do whatever you want. Just know that you won't be finding anything shady like that happening."
"We'll see."
Lelouch narrowly dodged Castor as he flew past in the Aquila, before sending his fist toward Pollux as he charged in with the Equus. The Kagero effortlessly slid left, dodging the horse-like frame's hammer, countering by firing its wrist cannons, which were blocked by its opponents, Blaze Luminous.
That's when Castor strafed in, knocking Lelouch to the ground while firing his cannons at the ground, kicking up enough dirt to mask Pollux's moves as he went behind their big Brother. Even so, the black-haired Prince saw this maneuver coming, and threw his hand out to stop the hammer with his own Blaze Luminous. He then followed up by pushing the weapon into the ground, and kicking the back of the Equus' head, before getting tackled by the Aquila, which backed away just enough to throw out a punch.
The Kagero dodged the first strike, and tried countering with an uppercut, which was dodged by a swift step back – or in the Aquila's case, a beat back. Castor circled around, trying to firmly grasp the Black frame with his talons, only to witness Lelouch do a 180, avoiding his grab. To amend this, the cyan-haired Prince sent his left fist forward, trying to use his wing-blades to dismember the Kagero, getting parried in the process, and countered with a swift kick that sent him tumbling away. Thankfully, Pollux came into stop their Big Brother from following up by slamming his hammer.
Even so, his efforts remained fruitless as Lelouch dodged, and placed his hands on the back of the weapon, before sending two repeated kicks into the Equus' head, ending the combo with an upward front kick, allowing him to backflip away while his half-brother reeled in pain. As he landed, the Aquila flew in to tackle him once again, which ended with the Kagero countered by catching the bird-like frame, dragging his feet across the dirt in the process, "Not this time!" Castor shouted while aiming his cannons at the Black frame's ligaments.
However, just as he was about to fire, he felt a rough knee slam into his chest, causing the Aquila to be knocked upward, before being buried head first into the ground, "Wh-what is happening!?" Pollux thought as he rushed to his twin's aid, only for the Aquila to be kicked away, allowing Lelouch to deal with the Equus alone, "Big Brother shouldn't be this strong! He can't be this strong!"
Lelouch leapt backwards, dodging fire from Pollux's hip-cannons, while plunging his harken into the horse-like frame's shoulder, allowing him to reel himself back into battle, glancing the Equus' head while flying past. The Kagero dragged its landspinners across the dirt, coming to a stop just as the Twins charged in from both sides, trying to take him by surprise. Though, Lelouch reacted by leaping out of the way, dodging his siblings as they nearly hit each other, "Heh. You really are amazing, Big Brother." Castor said with a smile, "To push us this far, is truly spectacular."
"You are everything Uncle said and more." Pollux chuckled, "But now, we'll end this."
Wordlessly, Lelouch charged in, strafing from side-to-side, dodging incoming shots from his half-brothers cannons as they desperately tried to keep him away. Once he was within range, the black-haired Prince threw a punch, which Pollux avoided by running away. Castor followed his twin closely as they stopped a considerable distance from the Kagero, "Now watch our splendor." they announced as the Aquila docked itself on the back of the Equus, lifting it into the air as the frames began combining.
Lelouch could do nothing but watch as they escape his grasp – even his wrist cannons would be useless, as the bullets would be ineffective at this range. After about a minute, the Equus shed its original coat of paint, taking on a new, gold sheen that gave it a majestic form, "We are perfection." the twins recited while descending upon the battlefield in their new frame, "We are the rightful rulers of these lands. We are… Regalia!"
Lelouch scoffed as his half-brothers landed before him in a considerably large Knightmare. Though, he didn't notice this through the pure rage he was feeling from their previous comments, and charged in regardless, "So what? You get a different coat of paint, and now you think you can win!?" he delivered a strong punch to the gold Knightmare's side, "Get real!" he followed this up by sending faster strikes, each aimed to tear his opponent apart.
However, instead of trying to block, Pollux extended his arms, taking the hits with a joyful look, "Ah! That's it, Big Brother! Thrash all you like, you're only preventing the inevitable."
Eventually, Lelouch's senses returned, and he noticed that he hadn't made even a dent in the new Knightmare's armor – hell, he hadn't even scratched their paint, "Are you done yet?" Castor asked tauntingly while sending the Kagero flying backwards with a single flick from his wing. As the Black Knightmare was about to crash into the ground, he fired a single cannon shot, which knocked it back into the air.
As Lelouch entered an upward spiral, he desperately tried thinking of a way out of this situation, only to witness the Regalia as it hovered over his body, "Not yet!" Pollux shouted as he drove his fist into the Kagero's chest, sending it flying over the mountains, before crashing into the forest.
"Crap… it's strong enough to knock me away like that, and it's fast enough to keep up!?" the Prince groaned while calmly getting up, "Is there even a way for me to win?"
Suddenly, the Gold Knightmare landed next to him, and sent its fist into his face, knocking him out of the forest, and toward an isolated fishing village, which had been evacuated due to witnessing the explosion from the city. The Kagero stumbled across the gravel until it landed back first into the river, where it laid as the Regalia landed at the village center.
"Naoto." Lelouch finally tried using his radio to contact the Ikaruga, which had been damaged when he was being transported by Castor originally, "Naoto!" he pressed a few buttons, changing his sourcing until he finally got a signal.
"Zero?" the Kozuki finally answered, "Are you okay!? Kallen said she saw your Knightmare getting thrown into the mountains!"
"I'm… fine. I guess…" the Prince mumbled as he slowly got up, catching sight of the Regalia retrieving some kind of weapon from within its chest, "Though, I've got a big problem. Long story short, the guys who kidnapped me have combined Knightmare's somehow."
"Combined Knightmare's!?" Maya suddenly chimed in through the call, "Mario! We totally need to have that!"
"Enough!" Naoto ordered, "This is a serious situation. Zero, I'll send someone over to retrieve you!"
"No. I don't want anyone interfering in this."
"Wh-what!? Why!? We need to get you out of there as soon as-"
"No. I can't allow these bastards to have the possibility of getting away!" Lelouch seethed while clenching his controls, "If you're going to send someone, then the most help I want, is them giving me something to destroy this Knightmare with. I'll explain everything later."
Naoto sighed, "Maya, tell Mario to return to the Ikaruga. There's something I need you to deliver."
"You done?" Pollux asked while extending his new weapon, which appeared to be a lance, "Because I think it's time for the show to continue, don't you?"
Now that Lelouch had a good look at the Gold Knightmare, he noticed it was unusually large, even bigger than the Gawain, "That thing's at least 3-no, four times my size! No wonder it can deliver such powerful hits."
"I hope our beautiful display didn't break your spirit." Castor chimed in with a psychotic chuckle, "Because we'd sincerely like to show you what our true combined might can do. Not that you'll last long anyway."
"He's right about that." Zero leaned forward, clenching his muscles as the Regalia did the same, "If I wait for Maya's care package, the chances of me being defeated earlier will skyrocket. In all honesty, I knew that the second I got knocked here. I just said that to get Naoto off my back. Hell, even if Kallen's on her way here, like I know she is, there's a good chance that even she'll be too late." he activated his Zero system and let out a deep breath, "Looks like I'll be needing this after all."
Lelouch charged forth, surprising Pollux with his tenacity, "Oh!? Looks like you've still got some fight!" he moved the Regalia forth, using the float system to assist in his movement, arriving in front of his Big Brother faster than anticipated. Even so, the Zero system calculated this, and revealed a way to avoid the rapid attack, which Lelouch took in a heartbeat, narrowly avoiding the strike by leaping over the massive frame early.
"You can still pull off maneuvers like that!?" Castor shouted while preparing the cannons, "Even so, you're still open to this!"
The black-haired Prince watched as the Regalia did a 180, training all of its cannons on him. In response, he crossed his arms, activating his Blaze Luminous to block the shots, still being sent flying backwards due to the sheer force. Regardless, he sustained no damaged, and landed on his feet, "Ah. It's just as I thought." he burst forth, dodging incoming fire that grew the closer and closer he got, "Your overall size might have increased, but on the inside, both of you are still boneheads!" finally, he got close enough for the cannons to stop, allowing for Pollux to thrust his lance forth, only for the attack to be avoided at the last second, "So who gives a shit!?" with that thought, Lelouch delivered a devastating punch toward the chest cavity where the weapon had been received initially.
Much to the twin's shock, this attack did massive damage and sent them stumbling backwards into the water, where Castor screamed in pain, "H-how did he do that!? How is he still keeping up!?"
"K-keep calm!" Pollux replied, "We can still win this!"
"No you can't." Lelouch answered hauntingly as his Zero system focused on the lance, giving him a new objective, "Because now, I can see my path to victory."
"I won't allow you to make a fool of us any longer!" Castor proclaimed while wiping sweat from his brow, "You will surrender yourself to us, Big Brother!"
"And become our slave!"
"When are you two going to stop repeating the same things over and over?" Lelouch snapped while leaning forward, "Because you're wasting your breath."
"Shut up!" Pollux shouted while charging forth, meeting his Big Brother in the middle as their arms clashed.
AN: Mostly wanted to focus on the fight between Lelouch, Castor and Pollux this chapter. I don't know how the whole 'combining Knightmares' thing worked in the game, so I took a few liberties with it (actually a lot of liberties). It (the Regalia) is also supposed to be three to four times bigger than an average Knightmare, which I would say the baseline is either a Glasgow or a Sutherland.
