CHAPTER 1
A young twenty year old woman who was a prodigy and was adopted but both of her parents died. She was alone now and had just got home after finishing and graduating from Yale University with a double master's degrees in Archeology and Celtic Studies. She had a 4.0 and a 4.2 GPA. She was soon to move to Ireland and start going on digs in England, Scotland and Ireland looking for relics and studying information on the ancient sites. The young woman had her tickets paid for already and was leaving in a week. She secured a studio apartment near Cambridge University in England. She was working for the university as a Research Assistant in the Research and Relics department.
A week later, the woman had got a little used British mini car to get around in and had her studio apartment set up real cute for herself. She was starting her new job next week and was going on a tour of the Newgrange Mound in a couple of days while staying at a nearby BB.
The woman lined up with all the people to get off the bus at the Newgrange Mound. The tour leader led them into the mound. She had her backpack on which she called her survival kit. It had everything in it. She put on her head light that was a flashlight strapped to her forehead. The woman was looking at the walls of the huge slabs of stone used for the wall structure and the small carving here and there. She had her book and pen out taking notes on the symbols etched in the stones. She was in her own little world.
The group went straight and she turned right down a short tunnel that had a huge slab of stone at the end. There was a small divot in the center like a hole. The woman took off her backpack and pulled out a tool. She used a sharp tool and was digging delicately the dirt out of it to see how deep it would go and cut her index finger doing it. It started to bleed just a tiny bit. She stuck her finger in the hole, it was an inch and a half deep. Suddenly, the wall disappeared and the woman fell through.
The woman stood up dusting off, began looking around at the ground and walls for anything unusual, not noticing the opening closing up behind her as she proceeded forward. The opening was shrinking quickly to nothing. In the back of the cave, there was a light that was reflecting. She watched where she was going and found a wall of liquid silver swirling and rippling with its own glow. She was in awe looking at it. It was so unusual to just be standing there in a deserted cave. The woman said out loud, "Where the hell does this doorway lead?"
The swirling started speeding up in the silvery doorway and a bunch of wind and dust started to pick up blinding her as she put her arms up around her face and head to protect herself. The wind forced her to step backwards and she went right through the silver swirling doorway.
She had the sensation of being tossed and turned inside the silver doorway through a strange tunnel of lights. She was getting nauseous and developing a headache from the lights and swirling going by in shifting directions. In her mind, she heard a disembodied voice speaking to her. It said, "What is your destination, child of man?"
The woman thought inside her head, "I don't understand, where can I go?"
The voice said, "Many realms are accessible from here. Choose wisely."
She thought, "I guess where I can do the most good."
The voice said chuckling, "Always the strong intelligent soul. You have made your choice. You are to be given the magical and physical capability to survive in your chosen destination. Beware and be not afraid, your memory will be erased but your intelligence will come with you. An exchange of bodies will occur, child of man. Your new name will be Brightflame, as in the daughter of Maegor Brightflame, the rightful heir."
She said, "Wait a minute, an exchange of bodies? What do you mean?"
Her body started picking up speed, passed into pitch blackness and hit the water hard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the night of a full moon, a bright red star shot across a sky of a million stars in the heavens like a harbinger from the gods. It had a long bright burning tail traveling at a high speed curving straight into the ocean's water, off the coast of Dragonstone. The tides and current flowed south overnight.
In the morning, the sun was shining over a calm sea of nothing but water as far as the eye could see from horizon to horizon. A small object was floating on the surface of the water at a distance. It bobbed up and down with the currents swirling around.
A ship was headed in that direction. The look out in the crows nest, high up on the mast of the ship called out of the object floating on the surface ahead. The crew launched a dinghy boat to investigate the object.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drifting through the murky depths of darkness….. floating in a sea of pitch black. A little girl began lifting up through the endless abyss, there was a feeling of floating on her back in water and severe pain wracked her whole body. She felt waves in the water and then something shading her from the sun. She then heard someone speaking.
A man said, "Come on, pick the girl up proper like." The girl felt one person pick her up by her shoulders and another by her legs and haul her up out of the water to somewhere. She was afraid to open her eyes and felt herself slipping away again into blackness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The crewmen brought the girl on board and got the captain. Euron Greyjoy crouched down looking at the girl. He nudged her and felt her neck for a heartbeat. He noticed that she looked about eight years old.
Euron said stoically, "She's alive. I'll keep her on a pallet in my cabin until I find out who she is. I can't trust you lot around her, besides she's too young. She could be valuable to someone."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day in the middle of the night was when she rose out of her unconsciousness, she was on a pallet on the floor in the dark. The girl didn't open her eyes and just listened to everything around her. There was a sound of someone snoring, there was rocking and creaking. She peeked to see around herself in the dark. She found she was in a cabin on a wooden ship lying on her side. The girl sat up slowly into a sitting position not making a noise though it hurt like hell. It was strange because she couldn't remember anything, not even her name. She felt like a blank slate. She noticed that she was in a long night shirt and nothing else.
The girl slowly stood up suppressing any sound she wanted to make because she was frightened, her body hurt terribly and her head was pulsing. She was looking around the room at all of the trinkets, items, the big four poster bed and nicknacks strewn around the room. She slowly crept to look out a window that had the shine of the moon coming through the glass. The girl could see the moon's reflection on the water at night. All she could see was endless water as far as the eye could see.
Suddenly, there were arms on both sides of the window and a man's chest pressed to her back and she froze. The man said softly in her ear, "I'm glad to see you have awakened, little one, but you should lay back down and rest until morning."
She asked quietly, uncomfortable with him being so close but too shaken to react, "Where am I?" She was nervous from the feeling of this person.
He said in her ear, "You're on the galley ship, 'The Silence', near the Cape of Wrath near Rain House and Greenstone. I'm Euron Greyjoy, my men pulled you out of the water floating on your back. Were you in a shipwreck or fell overboard?" The girl was confused at what he just said because none of it was familiar.
Something told her instinctually not to tell him anything at all that she could get away with. She said concentrating, "I… I don't remember. You said… I was in the water?"
He said smirking, "Uh huh. Do you remember your name?" She pushed away from the window and he dropped his arms. The girl walked to a beam in the center of the room, leaned her forehead against it and thought it was funny that there was a peculiar iron ring embedded in it. He was moving up behind her.
She said in a distracted way while searching for her memories, "My name… My name is… I don't know… my name. I guess you can call me Ivy, but that's not it. I don't remember my name." Ivy totally made up the name because she really had no idea what to call herself.
Euron said grinning, "Ivy, what a pretty name for a beautiful little girl." She was worried about that grin on him and knew that he was very untrustworthy, a shifty man and a possibly cruel kind of person. Yet, perhaps, she could try to play on his sympathies for now.
She asked innocently, "You say your name is Euron?" He nodded, still grinning.
Ivy said sadly, "Can you help me, Euron? I need to find out who I am and who did this to me. My body hurts terribly everytime I move something and my head is pounding painfully."
He said with sympathy, "I saw the black and blue bruises on you. They are very deep and dark like you were beaten. They must hurt." Euron knew whomever beat her like that must have thrown her overboard and she hit her head.
She said sadly and softly, "They really do hurt. Thank you and your men for pulling me out of the water. It was kind of you to save me." He was feeling like he was the little girl's savior and now he decided that he would protect her from his men. He figured before, until he knew if she could be ransomed or not, he would hold his men back. Now that he saw how cute and pretty she was, plus she didn't remember anything, he thought perhaps she might be worth keeping for himself. Euron wanted to slowly, gently treat her and break her in sexually. Then once she flowered he would have his way fully.
He walked up to her and steered her to the pallet saying, "You need to lay down and rest some more. Would you like a drink of water?" Ivy sat on the pallet and looked up at him and nodded, innocently. He poured her a cup of water. She drank it all, handing it back to him. Ivy laid down and. Euron pulled up the blanket to cover her.
He said gently, "Sleep, beautiful Ivy."
She said softly, "Thank you, Euron." He smiled happily while walking back to his bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the period of a couple weeks, the headaches were beginning to subside but she still acted like she was having them frequently. Euron had been outfitting her in a dozen small clothes (underwear), six pairs of leggings, pants and shirts with a pair of pirate boots with the silver buckles on the front. He even bought her dark colored ribbons for tying her dark long brown hair into a braid with soap, a brush, and a leather bag to carry it all in. He had her overwhelmed with his generosity, but she knew that he was a real pirate so basically a murderer and a thief who stole everything.
She would ask Euron simple questions to find out approximately what time she was in and where they were. It was the beginning of 280AC. She was able to get a look at maps. Ivy needed to get her bearings and figure out how she was to take care of herself in this feudalistic realm. It wasn't going to help herself as long as she was with Euron. She would need to get used to the violence of this world and be as weapons proficient as possible. Ivy wasn't an average child due to her coming into this world with the mind of an adult. She was highly intelligent and intuitive for an eight year old little girl. She was running on instinctual feelings mostly.
While on board, she witnessed one of his acts of piracy during that week. It was brutal and bloody. She had started collecting non-perishable food like dried fruit, nuts and dried meat. Ivy snuck bits of this and that and kept it in her baggage. She was accumulating quite a collection of food for when she could slip away and find someone to teach her to protect herself.
A few days passed and they went into a port in Myr to stay in an inn Euron liked, but he wanted her to stay and share his room with him for the next five days, to keep an eye on her he said. She had kissed him a few times on the cheek but that didn't work everytime, which was very uncomfortable kissing him intimately that way in the mouth with tongues. She had overheard that he couldn't have sex with her until she flowered but he could teach her other things to please himself. His arrogant behavior to others, cruelty to his crew, his gradual sexual advances knowing herself that she was too young and his erratic demeanor that made her on guard around him. Ivy thought him unstable in his head.
Before they left the ship in Myr, he had given her a bag of gold coins to buy anything she wanted. She quickly counted 50 gold coins. She put it in her bag with all of her belongings and things she had collected. Ivy wanted to take it all with her in case she could find a way of getting away from him.
As soon as they left after getting off the ship gangway, they got bombarded by throngs of vendors and beggars to the point she got shoved away lost in the crowd and pushed far away from the pirate's docks. The opportunity had definitely presented itself to finally get her far away from the pirates. She slipped away, ran until she reached the outside of the city and ran straight into a vast desert. She ran off into the sand and just kept going in one direction. Suddenly, a wind and sandstorm came out of nowhere enveloping her. Ivy kept moving so as not to be covered in sand. She tied a piece of cloth over her face and just kept moving.
After hours had passed of walking through the sand she leaned against a wall of sandstone from being exhausted. The wall gave way swinging in for her to fall through into a cavern filled with a sandy floor with sandstone walls. Ivy could hear dripping and falling water as she was standing up. She was glad the sand cushioned her fall a bit. Ivy opened one of her bags of belongings she had, pulled out a flint and steel she got from Euron and a candle she swiped from the ship. She found through a maze of tunnels a pool filled with water. She sniffed it and found it fresh and refreshing. Ivy drank her fill.
