Chapter 1 - The impossible genin test
Hiruzen Sarutobi took a long drag out of his pipe, dressed in his hokage robe, while his old wrinkled face looked tired. He sighed and took another look at the documents before him, he didn't think he would have to look at them again for some time, but here he was. His eyebrows furrowed as his mind was going a mile a minute trying to figure out a solution to his problem. What was his problem? His problem was a certain blue eyed teenage boy named Naruto Uzumaki, who stole the Forbiden Scroll of Seals. . Now normaly Naruto should have been punished for his crime, however as it turned out the boy has been tricked by his own sensei - Mizuki to steal the scroll for his own benefits. After a long battle Naruto deafeted Mizuki using his new jutsu, The shadow clone jutsu.
Now Naruto beacuse of his action his other sensei - Iruka decided to promote Naruto to the status of genin, beacoming a ninja to the village. Hiruzen was happy for his surrogate grandson, but beacuse of the late inclusion of Naruto the team roster of the year now had one more genin, meaning that for the old hokage he needed to figure out in which team to place Naruto.
At first Hiruzen thought of putting the blonde on Team 7 leaded by Kakashi Hatake a top rank jonin who served a couple of years as Anbu captain, his teamates would have been - Sakura Haruno a civilian girl with a lot of group knowledge and Sasuke Uchiha the last surviving Uchicha after the massacare that happened a few years back. He thought of this as both of them were The top kunoichi and The rookie of the year respectably, while Naruto was the dead last creating a nice balance with both the rookie and the dead last on the same team.
But there was one teeny-tiny problem, the boys hated eachother guts as much as an enemy ninja would. Of course the old kage thought at first that maybe a friendship would blossom if they were put on the same team, however he wasn't delusional as he knew that they probably wouldn't pass the first mission together.
That created another problem, even when putting Naruto into diffrent teams had its drawbacks. If Naruto was asigned to Team 8 the Jonin sensei - Yuhi Kurenai wouldn't be able to teach the blonde Uzumaki anything as her speciality - Genjutsu was Naruto's worse preforming classes at the academy for crying out loud. Then there was Team 10, however the team was Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi and Ino Yamanaka forming the powerful InoShikaCho a team compesition that was used during the preavious wars and also was requested by the leaders of their respective clans.
Before Hiruzen could take another drag of his tabacco someone jumped throught the window of his offocie. As Hiruzen recognised the figure a smile crept up his face.
"I figured it out..."
As the old hokage said this the figure landed in front of the him with a confused expression
"What did you figure out sensei?"
The person who asked this was none other then the legend himself Jiraya the toad sage and one of the three legendary sanin, also being Hiruzen's student back in the day. He was wearing his standard red vest, gray shirt and gray baggy pants.
"Jiraiya my boy" Hiruzen said with a warm smile
"What would you say about becoming a sensei once again?"
2 days later
In a small apartment building a blur of movement looking almost like a tornado was jumping and running around. The figure took a second looking into a mirror, the reflection showed tan skin, blue eyes, spiky blonde hair, three whisker marks on each cheek, he was wearing orange baggy pants and a black T-shirt.
Naruto checked over himself one last time with a big grin on his face, today was his big day. After taking his ninja photo he was ready to go to the academy and get asigned his own team, he obviously hoped that in his team would be Sakura, as the boy had a big crush on her. Slaping his own cheecks a couple of times and shaking his head he quickly put on his blue ninja sandals and orange jacket, closing his door as fast as he could he started sprinting towards the academy out of his little apartment.
As Naruto walked into the ninja academy, he quickly open the doors to his class before moving and sitting on his sit. Nobody minded him that he was here even thought they knew he failed the genin exam. Naruto winced as he remembered his failure to produce a clone, producing something that didn't even look like himself!
It wasn't long before a certain Shikamaru Nara noticed him
"Naruto didn't you fail the genin exam? Dude you have some guts to show up" Shikamaru said, the lazy boy was shaking his head in slight dissopointment.
Naruto scowled, using his thumb to point at his headband protector given to him by Iruka-sensei.
"Look here Shikamaru I passed"
The lazy boy could only mumble "Troublesome", before leaving Naruto alone.
Before more time could pass both Sakura and Ino made their loud entrance to the room. As they looked around they started to squeel with a couple of other girls as they saw Sasuke looking throught his window, looking as broody as ever. Naruto's eyebrow twitched as he saw this, making a quick and probably stupid decison he crouched before the brooding teenager looking straight into his eyes. Sasuke also noticed Naruto and glared back a small spark of electricity was beetween them as they glared at one another.
Of course the self proclaimed "Sasuke Uchiha number 1 fan girl" had to start screeching
"NARUTOOOO, what do you think your doing you moron? Let go of Sasuke NOW"
Before the boy had time to respond, someone from behind pushed him slightly by accident. This resultet in Naruto losing his balance and slamed into Sasuke lips first, kissing the last Uchiha.
It would be a while before iruka Umino entered the classroom, the first thing he noticed was a beaten form of one Naruto Uzumaki sitting in his desk as almost all of the girls in the class were staring at the blonde with cold stares. The teacher shook his head before clearing his throat ready to begin team assigning.
Naruto quickly grew bored and started to doze off not really paying attention. Eventually he heard something that intrested him.
"Team 7 will consist of Haruno Sakura..."
Naruto in a blink of an eye gave his full atention wanting to be in a team with his crush
"Kiba Inuzuka and Sasuke Uchiha, your team leader will be Hatake Kakashi"
At that Naruto deflated, while Sakura was cheering for being in the same team as her beloved Sasuke. Iruka didn't mind and continue
"Team 8 will be Hinata Hyuga, Aburame Shino and Sai, your team leader will be Kurenai Yuhi" Naruto started growing anxious as he counted the ramaining genin and something wasn't ading up.
"Team 10 will be Ino Yamanaka, Choji Akimichi and Shikamaru Nara, your team sensei is Sarutobi Asuma"
Naruto's face scrunched up as he counted again and again
"There is no way... am I the only one ramaining?" Naruto asked himself quietly before waiting on what Iruka will say with hope.
"Team 11 will consist of Naruto Uzumaki..."
A loud silence envelop the whole class as they waited on who the other two of Naruto's teamates will be, but that information never came. As Iruka cleared his throat again he spoke this time in a mix of shock and confusin.
"Team 11 consist of Naruto Uzumaki, while your sensei is..." There was a pause as Iruka scanned the paper again "Your sensei is waiting for you in the hot springs"
At this moment Naruto couldn't stop himself as he screamed out
"WHAT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WHERE IS MY TEAM?" As Naruto's questions were screamed out, all Iruka could do was scratch the back of his head, before trying to respond but unfortunly the class was quicker.
"HA! Naruto your so bad that nobody even whanted you on a team!" Kiba shouted.
"Shut up Dog Breathe!"
The reply from Naruto had both Kiba and his dog partner - Akamaru growling
"What did you say DEAD LAST? Your headband was probably stolen!"
Naruto's could only clench his fist before glaring at Kiba, he wanted so bad to kick his ass using his clones. Before the "conversation" could go any further Iruka interrupted using his big head jutsu
"NOW BOYS STOP THIS ARGUING, RIGHT NOW"
Naruto without saying any word stood up and got over to the door before going out, his destination being the hot springs. He could still hear the laughter of his classmates and Kiba yelling something.
The walk to the hot springs was a quiet one, Naruto's brain was goin a mile a minute hoping for some explanation why he didn't have teamates.
"Was I not good enough? Was I some kind of special genin beacuse I didn't pass that damn test?"
Before his thoughts could get sadder he finaly arived at the hot springs. At first nothing was out of the ordinary, so Naruto waited and waited and waited. Finaly after 10 whole minutes of waiting for his "sensei" he had enough, searching around he couldn't find anything
"ARGH, WHERE IS HE?"
As Naruto screamed to the skies he heard a gigling noise to the right of him. Turning his head he noticed a man peeking into women's side. A tick mark apeared on the blondes fourhead as he decided to go towards the person, finaly after being behind him the Uzumaki readied his fist before smacking the old pervert on the head.
The pervert yelled in suprise before falling on his back allerting the women inside, and so Naruto witness as eevry women came out of and started to beat the hell out of the pervert. As the women left he could only wince at the others bruises, then as if nothing happened the man jumped up with a scowl.
"BRAT what do you think you are doing interupting my reaserch?"
Naruto scoffed and crossed his arms
"Reaserch? You old pervert, you deserved what you got!"
"Who are you calling pervert?"
"YOU!" Naruto yelled pointing his finger at the man with some veins popping out of his forehead.
"I am no ordinary pervert brat, I'm a SUPER PERVERT!"
Saying that a toad apeard under the self proclaimed super pervert while he himself struck a pose. As the toad dissapeard the towering figure of a man stared at Naruto.
"What do you want, you pervert!" Naruto yelled iritated.
The man scowled "So you are Naruto, huh? Nothing impressive"
"How the hell you know my name you perv?" Naruto exlaimed with a suprised tone. At that a smirk crept up the white haired mans face while pointing and exlaiming
"What type of sensei would I be if I didn't know your name?"
Naruto sat cross-legged on the grass while staring at the super pervert before him. The man cleared his throat
"So brat how about starting with introductions?"
Naruto blinked a couple of times, at that the man sigh.
"Okay I start then" he grunted, before a smirk plastered itself on his face
"My name is Jiraiya the legendary toad sannin and a super pervert, my likes include research and writing books, also a certain blonde hair women, I dislike a certain someone and those who disrispect women, my hobby includes my research"
As now Jiraiya pointed at Naruto "Your turn brat"
Naruto had a big foxy grin on his face, adjusting his headband he spoke
"My name's Naruto Uzumaki, I like instant Ramen, but what I like even more is the Ichiraku Ramen that Iruka-sensei treats me to, what I dislike is three minutes it takes for instant Ramen to be prepered, isn't it supose to be instant I hate the wait, my hobby is eating and comparing Ramen. And my dream is...to surpass every hokage! So the villagers can acknowledge my existence!"
Jiraya had a big sweat drop as he stood infont of Naruto "He really likes ramen, eh?" he thought before shaking his head becoming searious.
"Now brat normally there would be a test for becoming genin with a 66.6% failure"
As Naruto was about to protest Jiraya quickly shut him down
"However you're nothing but normal, this is in Konohas history that a genin was assigned to one sensei."
"Wait really?" Naruto asked in suprise. Jiraiya noded, at that Naruto had a grin on his face
"YEAH, see now KIBA I'm special and not some loser!" Naruto yelled out to the skies scaring some birds from the trees. Jiraiya shook his head
"Even if you're special that doesn't mean that you don't have to pass the test"
At that Naruto's comicly fell down to the ground twitching. Jiraiya chuckled
"Meet me here tommorow at 8 am sharp"
After that the super perver dissapeared in a cloud of smoke. As the blonde started to mumble about "Stupid Ero-sennin" he started going towards his apartment. Jiraya who was looking from the trees smiled looking at the retreating form of the blonde
"Now I want to see what this brat has to offer tommorow... I hope he's ready" and witha smirk Jiraiya once again vanished in a cloud of smoke.
1 day later
Jiraiya was making his way to training ground 11 where he saw one Uzumaki Naruto leaning against the trainng post. When Naruto saw Jiraya he yelled out
"ERO-SENNIN YOU'RE FINALY HERE"
The older man got a tick mark on his forehead
"WHAT DID YOU CALL ME!"
After a bit of arguing between the two Jiraiya cleared his throat
"Now gaki listen closely"
Naruto now had his full attenton on Jiraya. Seeing that he got the kid's attention Jiraya crossed his arms.
"Your test to become a genin will be..."
Naruto started to breathe fast with anticipation.
"Will be..."
Naruto started slightly sweating as he clenched his fist, his eyes sharper then ever.
"You have to hit me once" The pervert said with a grin on his face. Naruto blinked once, then twice, then thrice before staring at Jiraiya
"what?" the tall man asked the blonde
"That's it?" Naruto asked in disbalief.
"Yep and to make it fair I'll even cross my arms and I can't use them and if I do you win"
Hearing that Naruto smirked, before seeing Jiraiya pull out a clock and putting it on top of a training post
"This clock is set to 9 am, if it ends you fail the test and get send back to the academy, so when I say start we start"
The jinchurki cracked his knuckles
"I'm always ready let's GO!"
Crossing his arms Jiraiya with a searious face said
"Start!"
Naruto decided to go on offense, quickly charging at the taller man and sending a punch. Jiraiya moved slightly to the left avoiding the younger boy. Seeing his fist not hit his intented target Naruto spun around and tried to deliver a round house kick, unfortunly for the blonde Jiraiya leened out of the way.
"Stop dodging my attack Ero-sennin!" Naruto exlaimed in rage.
"Won't do kiddo"
After 8 or so minutes of Naruto trying to hit Jiraiya, he eventualy needed to change his tactics as this was going nowhere. Seeing the blonde dash back Jiraiya didn't expect for Naruto to suddenly multiply
"Shadow clone jutsu!" Naruto cried out doing a crossed hand sign, in a puff of smoke 8 Naruto's apeared before him.
"Damn sensei, not telling me about what this brat has in his arsenal" Jiraiya muttered under his breathe.
Now a small army of Naruto's with a battle cry charged at the older man, Jiraiya had to dodge and weave every punch, kick, elbow, knee and grab, making it quiet a deadly dance. However with each miss Naruto grew more and more annoyed
"CAN'T YOU STOP DODGING?'
Jiraiya smirked, the blonde already regreted saying what he did
"Okay then I'll start light"
Saying this behind Jiraiya a clone managed to sneek up fist ready, as he was about to hit him the toad sannin dissapeared in a burst of speed. Naruto didn't know what was going on, one second Jiraya was standing there with his arms crossed and the next he was moving at speeds he couldn't even see. Crying out in pain Naruto was send flying from a kick from the taller man, as all the clones exploded into smoke.
Naruto was rolling on the ground before coming to a stop
"what the hell?" the blonde thought, but before anything further Jiraiya apeared on top of the blonde. In shock Naruto tried to low sweep his legs, however Jiraiya just jumped over Naruto before using his heel to hit Naruto's head. After being send flying Naruto finaly stopped and got back onto his feet.
"Now brat since we practised your offense, let's see you defence" Jiraiya exlaimed with a smirk arms still crossed.
"Damn it, he is too fast and strong, I need to do somehting, FAST" as Naruto got back up he formed dozen of clones. Jiraiya snorted
"Clones? Again?"
Naruto grunted before him and his clones charged, unfortunly for the boy it was for nothing. Around 30 clones were destroyed in seconds. Naruto send a fist towards Jiraiya's face, huwever with a dodge and a kick to the face Naruto again was send to the ground hard.
"Why won't you give up already? After all I'm quiet simply impossible for you to hit" Jiraya snorted.
Naruto clenched his fist and got up again panting heavly, the test has already been going for quiet some time, Jiraiya seemed to notice it aswell.
"You got around 20 minutes brat"
"I know damn it!"
"So you giving up already?" Jiraiya asked in a mocking voice.
"Never!" Naruto barked out loudly "I won't give up that's my ninja way, y' know!"
Jiraiya's face lighten up before the blonde summoned another 60 clones. A sea of orange and blonde filled up Jiraiya's vision and with a smirk he charged at them. One by one every clone was deafeted, however when one was taken out two more would apear. The toad sannin frowned seeing this, before something caought his eye, there at the end of a small army of clones was one alone Naruto
"That must be the original" Jiraiya thought, before as fast as lighting running towards him. Clones tried and failed to stop him before he deliver a kick to the Naruto at the back. The blonde spit out some saliva before slumping back, all the other clones started to puff away.
"So that's the end gaki, huh?"
Before Jiraiya could say anything else there was another puff of smoke, his eyes widen as he figured out that was a clone aswell. Suddenly from the ground two Naruto's apeared grabbing each of his arms.
"what the-"
"NOW" Naruto yelled as infront of him from the ground another Naruto jumped out fist clenched.
"When did he..." Jiraiya thought, but he wasn't called one of the legendary sannin for nothing. Quickly shrugging of the other two blondes holiding his arms he blocked the punch with his palm.
"That was a genius plan brat, but you're still a hundred years younger to even imagine hitting me" The older male pushed the kyuubi jinchuriki back slamming him against the ground.
Naruto got up and pointed at Jiraya with a smile while heavly panting
"Y-you used your hand... You broke the rules"
It hit Jiraiya like cold water, It was true he said he wouldn't use them and yet here he was. Clenching and unclenching his fist Jiraiya smiled at the blonde boy who reminded him of his own old student
"Of course he knew that getting even one hit was too much for him, so instead he wanted for me to use my arms. A genius move" Jiraya smirked with aproval.
"Well then Naruto...you pass"
At the same time 9 am hit and the clock started going off. With a smile Naruto started to fall clearly passed out, but before hitting the ground Jiraiya caught him.
"This was suprising brat, I hope to see you put your brain more into battle, for now you are the official aprentice of the great Jiraiya!"
