Chapter 1
Max Caufield x Mark Jefferson
AN: Mark is not a killer in this fanfic. It takes place after the everyday hero contest, around middle of March.
Ariana stared at the computer screen. She knew that she shouldn't keep digging but something told her to continue. She'd been researching for months. It started just before last summer when Ariana got a surprise call from an old acquaintance. Chloe Price had asked to see her for something that, for her, was important. Ariana had taken the day off to go see the former best friend of her younger cousin Max. After crying her eyes out for this girl Rachel Amber, Ariana had started to investigate where she could have disappeared to. This led her to discover that over the years multiple girls had disappeared from the area surrounding Arcadia Bay. For years, young girls have gone missing. From one city to another. Ariana signed for the thousands time that evening, or that's what it felt like. Twenty girls have gone missing in the last few years. Twenty, that's how many Ariana have managed to find. There might even be more missing girls. All were last seen in or in the surrounding area of Arcadia Bay. Arianas research had been going flawlessly until last month when her boss got a call about one of his subordinates snooping in an area that is technically outside of their own jurisdiction. This had led to Arianas first and only warning to stop.
"Maybe I should go visit Max? She does go to school there." Ariana said to herself. "It's been a while since I last was her. And maybe I could find something more about these missing girls." Ariana said to herself.
"Hey Ariana, what are you still doing here? Where you talking to someone?" her boss called from his doorway.
"Good evening, sir. And no, I was just thinking out loud." Ariana said. "I'm just going over some of my notes about all these disappearances that's happened over the last few years in Arcadia Bay." Ariana continued.
"Ariana, we have been over this a few times already." Arianas boss said with a heavy sigh. "There is no known connection between them. And spending too much time on these cases is not to be recommended." He continued.
"I know that sir, but something is telling me to look deeper into it. I just can't leave it as it is." Ariana said.
"I know where you are coming from, I really do, but my hands are tied, and we need you to focus on more urgent cases. I do hope that you remember the warning you got." Arianas boss said.
"You do not need to remind me about that sir." Ariana said. "But what if I told you that I've been doing this on my own time? Would I still get told off for trying to help all these families getting closure about their missing daughters and sisters?" Ariana asked.
"Fine, I'll let you continue to research about these disappearances, but if you get caught doing something you really should not, then I can't help you out. Do you understand?" Arianas boss said with a final look on his face.
"Thank you, sir, I will not disappoint you, I swear." Ariana said as she got up from her desk.
"And where are you heading off to now then?" her boss asked with amusement in his voice.
"I've got a cousin currently living in Arcadia Bay, she's attending Blackwell Academy, sir. And I thought it could be a good idea to pay her a visit." Ariana said as she walked out from the office.
"At this hour?" her boss asked.
"Home, sir." Ariana chuckled. "I'm heading home. You should really do the same sir." Ariana said.
At Arianas remark her boss couldn't help but laugh.
"Alright, alright. Off with you then. I'll see you on Monday." Arianas boss said as Ariana walked out from the station.
As Ariana got into her car, she took out her phone and dialled her cousin Max. After a few rings with no answer, she hung up and decided to just head home. She could call her cousin back in the morning.
