Fallout New Kanto

Chapter 1

Life in Vault 18 was odd, especially after the GOAT results suggested that Dee should join the VaultBall team, which was essentially old school American football dressed up in SilphCo branding. As the game was in its final moments, the young man caught a pass and charged towards the goal right at the defence. He tried to dodge aside only for his opponent to smash into his leg and a sickening crunch of pain made him pass out.

"Wake up Dee."

The voice roused Dee and he immediately tried to stand only for a searing blast of pain to make his leg collapse and he fell to the floor.

"Damnit, kid, don't try to stand on that mangled leg." Dr. Rossman sighed as he knelt next to Dee.

"Mangled?" Dee looked down at his right leg and immediately regretted it after he saw the damage.

"Yeah, you got messed up bad at the game," Rossman shook his silver haired head, "What in Arceus' name possessed you to play Vault Ball?"

Dee just shrugged as the dark-skinned doctor helped Dee back onto the medical bed, "the GOAT said I'd be great at it."

"Coach Guzma dragged that outdated aptitude test out of mothballs?" Dr. Rossman groaned, "Take my advice and don't pay any attention to it. You're better at a computer than on a field."

Dee blinked at the Doctor, "Doctor Rossman? Where's the real doctor?"

"Off duty, they just grabbed me from the mainframe and told me to come treat you because 'a doctor's a doctor'," he rolled his eyes, "but I'm sorry to say I don't think your leg's going to make it. Probably going to have to amputate."

"What?!" Dee almost sat up, then flinched in pain.

"Doctor's recommendation, that or you can try this experimental serum that's supposed to help regenerate severe damage." He picked a syringe out of a small metal box where it was stored with another.

"I'll take it," Dee lay back, "I don't want to lose my leg."

Once Dr. Rossman injected Dee and bound his leg as best he could, Dee stood up and tested it. It still hurt but the massive cast boot made it walkable at least.

"Won't work right away so take things easy till you go to bed."

"Right," Dee nodded, "Anywhere I can spend time working on something?"

"Well, there's the old robotics lab up by the entrance," Dr Rossman fished an old key out of his pocket, "Feel free to tinker with any working bots up there."

"Thanks. I this works can I join your wasteland scouts?" Dee winced as he limped out of the clinic.

"If you really want to see the desolated waste out there, sure I'll sign you up." They went their separate ways as they entered the huge circular atrium.

Dee passed his friend Ben Kurtz on the way to the locked elevator.

"Hi Dee, how's the leg?" Ben winced when he saw the cast and nearly dropped one of the magazines and comics he was carrying.

"Dr. Rossman said it might have to be cut off, but he gave me a shot he said might work then told me I could go see the old robotics lab upstairs."

"Hope it works, here this might help," Ben pulled an issue of Programmer's Digest from his stack and passed it to Dee, who accepted.

"Thanks, I'll stop by tomorrow," Dee waved as he limped towards the elevator.

The Robotics lab was dimly lit to save power and most of the robots were broken husks, save two. Dee approached one console with a four-legged robot and read the console on its charging pod, "Robot Growlithe, GR-0-WL. Looks more like a metal Growlithe skeleton. Let's see if I can get you working." He pulled out the Programmer's Digest

Dee had only ever seen pictures of Pokemon on the Vault's Pokedex database, with one exception. For some reason Silph Co. had forbidden any Pokemon to be allowed in Vault 18 before it was sealed so the only ones the residents were allowed to see were on computers.

"GR-0-WL boot sequence started, I look forwards to being your companion," the robot Growlithe spoke in a tinny voice, "Boot process starting."

"Guess I'll come visit you in the morning GR-0-WL." Dee yawned as he stretched upwards. He was starting to feel itchy under his blue Vault suit as he was returning to the elevator.

Back in his family's apartment he saw his adopted brother and the Overseer's son playing some Pokemon RPG they had made up while their adopted sister, Mandy, watched.

"They're still at it," Mandy sighed, "I still can't follow what they're saying. How's the leg?"

Dee looked down at the cast boot, "Feels a lot better, actually." Dee yawned again, "Still hurts and I'm getting itchy, and sleepy."

"Then let me redress that and you go to bed," Mandy gestured towards Dee's bed in the one room apartment.

Dee didn't even change out of his vault suit before he fell back onto the bed and was out in an instant. Mandy just smirked as she carefully pulled off the boot and unwrapped the bloody bandages, then she just stared mouth agape: Dee's leg was no longer broken but was completely covered in black fur with paw pads on his foot.

Mandy hastily threw the blanket over Dee. "Been listening to RPG talk too long," She headed for her own bed.

OoOoO

A massive explosion shook the whole Vault which jolted Dee awake and threw him to the floor as massive pain overwhelmed his body. He heard voices vaguely saying "they're all dead" before he as left alone.

The pain was fading faster than expected but it left a massive itching all over Dee's body as he stood up, feeling completely off balance. At least his leg felt better as he patted himself down to see if he was alright, then froze as he touched his chest.

Dee started to freak out as he rapidly explored the rest of his body. Everything felt completely different! His entire body was almost unrecognisable, his face had completely reformed and the biggest shocks: his manhood was gone and he had breasts!

Gunfire from outside the room shocked Dee back to reality: survive the crisis first, body problems later.

Already her new breasts were becoming a distraction as they rubbed against the inside of her vault suit so she stepped over to Mandy's dresser, then stopped over her body.

Mandy was dead and nearby their brother lay crushed under the collapsed ceiling. "I'm sorry sis," she took a bra from the dresser, unzipped her vault suit and pulled the bra on as best she could before she zipped back up. Dee rubbed tears from her eyes, so much happening all at once and no time to grieve as the sounds of gunfire from outside stopped. Not wanting to freak anyone out with what she looked like Dee grabbed the only thing she could find to cover her face, a hockey mask, and headed out to see the end of the firefight.

Thankfully everyone was too distracted to notice what was behind the ill-fitting hockey mask as they filled Dee in: a group called The Aether Enclave had invaded and the Vault Ball Coach had been one of their undercover agents; he had successfully turned half of Vault 18 to their side as "Team Skull" So they had to evacuate or fight back. Dee could barely process all of this as she fumbled to grab a laser pistol from a fallen security officer and followed the last two survivors out into the atrium.

The firefight between Team Skull and Vault Security was still underway in the atrium and Dee just kept her head down and ran to the vault's pipeworks to avoid the crossfire. Once inside the quiet of the pipeworks let Dee catch her breath and she holstered the laser pistol from her shaking hands. The serum must have caused her change and it felt like it wasn't done yet, she still itched in a lot of places.

A chittering nearby made Dee jump as a large red insectoid approached her, a Radparas! The only living Pokemon she'd ever seen before, Paras originally were large red insects with four mandibles, four legs and two large forearms with a pair of mushrooms sprouting from their back. She had read that the mushrooms were parasites that totally took over the creature on evolution to Parasect but whatever mutated the original Paras either killed the mushrooms or gave Paras the strength to fight them off. Radparas were more than twice the size they used to be, as big as Parasect, and possibly out of some desire to never be controlled again were always hostile to humans.

Unknown instincts sprang to life in Dee as she jumped back from the Radparas' biting mandibles and she stomped on it as hard as she could, being rewarded by the crunch of the carapace. Not wanting to wait for more, Dee took off through the pipeworks, heading for the exit to the upper apartments, only to run into two more Radparas. She punched one, smashing it into the ground then kicked the other into the air while it was in mid-lunge and slammed her palm into it which sent it flying to splatter on the wall.

Dee was stunned with how that felt so natural and took a moment to examine her hand: it was covered in blue fur with a round silver disc on the back. She had to find a mirror to see just what she had become.

Dee was too pre-occupied by what was happening as she got caught up in two more firefights after emerging from the pipeworks and thankfully everyone was too busy with the battle to ask any questions or even get a close look at her. One of the upper apartment's residents had dug through his bathroom wall into the surrounding caves which led to the hydroponics bay where the rest of Vault Security was making their last stand.

Dee paused in the bathroom and took off the hockey mask to take a look at herself in the mirror. She gasped as she reached up to feel her ears on the top of her head, snout and thick dreads on the sides of her head. She was a Riolu! Or rather a mix of a Riolu and a human, her proportions somewhere in between the two species somewhat erring on the side of human as the images in the Vault's Pokedex never showed any Pokemon with breasts.

Dee pulled the mask back on before she ran through the caves. The middle of an invasion wasn't the time to ponder this.

The last stand against the Enclave was harrowing. Dee was still too unused to her new body to risk running through a hail of gunfire so she just sprayed wildly with her laser pistol, unsure if she actually hit anyone during the fight. When the dust settled, Dee was told to go to the overseer in his backup office before they did anything else.

Dee found the overseer at the bottom of the stairs of a hewn stone cave seated at a replica of his official desk, head in hands and trembling as he muttered to himself.

"What are you doing here? Everyone fighting outside!" Dee stared at the quivering man.

He looked up, "The Aether Enclave, they killed my son and my wife and... it's too late." He blinked, "Wait... Is that you Dee? What happened to you?"

Deciding to just show him, Dee pulled the hockey mask off her face, "I don't know. I just woke up after everything started exploding and I was a Riolu woman."

"The serum must have worked, or maybe it let you regenerate and merged your DNA," the overseer shook his head.

"The serum that was supposed to fix my leg," Dee tested her right leg, "at least that part worked. Was it supposed to do this?"

"If only we had more time for trials, you were the first willing test subject. But it's too late now," the overseer collapsed back forwards.

"Too late?!" Dee was incensed, "People are dying out there to protect the Vault and you're just cowering in here?!"

"It's not just that, this whole place was a test from the Aether Enclave, to see how long before we went stir crazy in here without Pokemon for companionship." The overseer looked up, "Well there's their answer: I finally pushed the big red button!"

"What?" Dee looked down at the red button that was by the overseer's hand, "What did you do?"

"Thought it was obvious: I engaged the Vault's self-destruct…" the overseers face was full of regret.

"What?!" Dee shook her head to clear her thoughts, "I can stop it! I'll get to the Vault's reactor and-"

"It's too late," the overseer shook his head and picked up a 9mm pistol that was lying on his desk, "everything's going to up in smoke in a few minutes, I failed everyone." He put the gun to his head.

"NO! Wait!" Dee moved too slow to stop the overseer from shooting himself. She stood there in total shock as the overseer's body slumped over his desk.

More explosions rocked the vault which shook Dee out of her shock. She wiped some tears away and put her hockey mask back on before she left. Shocking everyone with her appearance in the middle of this disaster would only make things worse.

"Dee, what happened?!" The security chief confronted her as she came out of the backup office.

"The overseer started the self-destruct then shot himself. We need to go now!" Dee was trying to keep her panic under control.

"Shit! Really? Damnit, we need to move!" The security chief didn't even take notice that Dee was female now as he rallied the rest of security, grabbing all the guns and ammo they could as they ran for the exit. The hockey mask was feeling inadequate so Dee grabbed a gas mask off a fallen security officer and a scarf that someone had left on as makeshift barricade to wrap around the rest of her head. She felt things were only going to get worse from here.
