Chapter Eight: The Initiate Trials Start

Jedi Temple, Coruscant: 7941 CRC / 36 BBY

It had been a year since my clan had been to Illum and created our lightsabers on the way back under the watchful eyes of Huyang. My blade ended up as a medium emerald showing my desire to teach as a counselor along with the balance of a sentinel. I knew that I was not yet where I wanted to be, but I was still on my way to becoming a Je'Daii and be truly balanced in the force.

Over the last year I had spent my time much as I had before my trip to Illum and continued to meditate on the force as I sought balance without the Jedi becoming too suspicious of me. I knew that most would not like what I wanted because they were blinded by their self-righteousness because they felt that the light side of the force was the proper path even though I knew it was not balanced at all. One big difference was that I now incorporated my new lightsaber into my meditation before advancing to moving meditation utilizing the velocities for lightsaber combat. This was the first step towards developing my own alchaka the most advanced form of combat based moving meditation.

Today all the initiates that were seen as old enough to handle them were gathering for the start of the Initiate Trails to see if any of us would be raised to the rank of Jedi Padawan. The first test was the building of our own lightsabers over the last year and testing our knowledge on various subjects making certain that we knew enough to be let out into the wider galaxy. Our next trial would be for the Initiates to recite the Jedi Code from memory in front of a panel of Jedi Masters along with an interview by the panel. The final competition would be a tournament with lightsaber duels using our own lightsabers set on training mode. Not that we would be able to finish all of the trials today as there are quite a few of us that are available to advance to the rank of Jedi Padawan.

We were told to meditate while we waited to be interviewed after we recited the Jedi Code for the panel of masters. I settled down in the lotus position allowing the force to flow into me while reflecting on all of my experiences even before I found myself in this universe. While I was reflecting my past I was also reciting my Force Code and the two versions of the Jedi Code that I knew. I knew I should no be recalling my personal code right now but I felt that I should as I would not betray myself to the stuck up fools of the Jedi Order. I continued wo meditate for hours on end until I was finally called to meet with the Jedi Masters.

The masters were seated around the room in a clear show of dominance over the Initiates they were judging. I steeled myself as the gathered masters looked down upon me from their slightly raised throne like chairs. I knew that it was not purposely meant as an intimidation tactic even though it was a very intimidating sight even with all the memories that I have access to. I bowed to the gathered masters upon entering the room as a show of difference as was expected of me. After my bow Master Yadle the female gremlin who was leading this council sitting began to speak. "Come before us as part of your trials initiate Lushan you have. Sensed you meditating patiently while waiting for your turn to be interviewed by us we have. To interview you now recite the Jedi Code before we begin."

I gave a respectful nod as I continued to show difference to the gathered masters before I began reciting the Jedi Code. "There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force."

The masters seemed glad that I did not hesitate at all in my reciting of the Code as written by Odan-Urr. Most Initiates would have spoken the shortened version of the code as it is easier to remember. Master Depa Billaba who sat to Yadle's left began speaking next. "Good Initiate Lushan, now we will have you explain your understanding of the Code and how it applies to you."

I did not pause as I clearly remembered my lessons from growing up in the Jedi Temple. "As Jedi we are to objectively view the world in order to not fall to the temptations of the Dark Side. That allows us to be free of our emotions and gain peace in the Force." The gathered Masters were clearly pleased with how I started my explanation of the code. "In order to properly view the worlds around us we Jedi must learn about our surroundings gaining knowledge and no longer being ignorant." This statement had Yadle's lips twitching up in a suppressed smile. "As with our emotions Jedi cannot let our passions control us and we must remain calm in the face of adversity." This had Depa Billaba nodding in approval. "The next line tells us that all things are connected meaning everything should be respected." With this the lone Neti Jedi Master nodded approving of my understanding of the Force. "The final line is about accepting that death is unavoidable and not something to fear as when a Jedi dies they go on to join with the Force itself." That had all of the masters nodding in approval as few Jedi Initiates would be able to grasp the concept of joining with the Force upon death.

After a short silent conversation by the gathered masters using the force that I could not follow Yadle spoke up. "Impressive, your understanding of the Jedi Code is. Passed this section of the initiate trials, you have Initiate Lushan."

I bowed to the gathered Jedi Masters as I still needed to show my respect to them even though I knew they were blind to their own faults. "Thank you for this show of confirmation Masters." With that done I stepped out of the room and made my way to get some food before I went to train for a bit as I could use the activity to loosen up after spending the whole morning meditating. I knew that I did not need to stress too much but I wanted to move and lose myself in my moving meditation using my lightsaber forms.

Once I made it to a small training room alone I started to let the force flow through me as I moved through my lightsaber velocities. I knew that my strength with the force would be capped at the connection of a Jedi Knight until I raised that connection by spending points before another Mini-Jump. I did not even notice the time passing as I moved through my velocities just loosing myself into the movements while letting the Force guide my saber and increase my speed through using my body like a puppet. This was the basis for all of the movement techniques that any Force User utilized.

Once my body decided to let me knew it needed food I went to the mess hall and ate my supper. After I filled my belly I went back to the dormitory and stripped down without a care for who was watching. Once naked I went into the communal shower and started getting clean from my workout. I was not bothered by the others members of my clan coming in to shower as I was cleaning up in the communal shower. I even appreciated the view of Uojes'minaf and Uogug'minaf as they were entering puberty early and being active Twi'lek they were becoming very shapely.

I was just lucky enough to have not entered into puberty yet allowing me to look without my body exposing my interest. After I showered while appreciating the young women cleaning up as well I settled down in a lotus position on my bed only wearing my underwear to meditate on my personal code centering myself in the Force. It was not too long before I felt someone sit on my bed and poke me in my side. Opening my eyes I saw the most developed girl in the clan seated before me wearing nothing at all. "Hello Safras, what may I do for you this evening?"

She smiled in what I assume was meant to be a seductive manner that I struggled to ignore since even though I was not physically reacting I still had hormones starting to pump through my veins. "I wanted to thank you for all of your help through the years here as if not for you I would not have mastered the code as well as I have." With those words said she leaned forward and gave me a quick peck on the lips before hopping away to her own bed. I doubted that I would ever understand the female mind, but I was not upset by the attention I was receiving. With that distraction finished I settled back down into my meditation in order to focus on the coming day substituting meditation for sleep.

As the sun started to rise I climbed off my bed before I started to stretch out the kinks in my back and loosen up before the sparring sessions later. I noticed that a few of the female members of my clan were blushing as they stole glances at my bare flesh. I was not embarrassed by the attention, but it did give me a bit of a confidence boost which I had to mentally squash down and focus while closing my eyes. I needed to be centered in the force for my defensive style to work properly. When my stomach informed my that it was time to break my fast I dressed before I headed to the mess hall in order to get some food before I needed to make my way down to the training hall for the lightsaber competition. The normal food was as bland yet filling as it always tasted.

Once I was fed I made my way down to the training hall seeing as I still had over thirty minutes before the competition started I made sure I would be ready by going through a warmup exercise routine. Once the other Jedi Initiates came into the room most started their own stretches and warmup exercises while a few scoffed at our preparation. I noticed that the masters from yesterday were looking over us from the balcony overseeing the training room but they were joined by some knights and other masters even the elven looking Jedi Master that had brought me here as a baby.

It was not long before Anoon Bondara an older male Rutian Twi'lek Jedi Master that currently held the title of Battlemaster entered the room along with his Padawan Darsha Assant before he cleared his throat drawing all of our attention. "Good morning Initiates, today you shall be tested on your ability with a lightsaber in a series of spars. My Padawan and I shall be overseeing two duels while Master Dooku oversees a third spar under the gaze of your potential future masters and the Council of First Knowledge to show that you are ready to be taken as a Jedi Padawan yourself.
