Satoru yawns as he rounds the corner, heading into the kitchen where Shippo sits at the table with Koushi in his lap. "G'morning," Satoru greets, ruffling Shippo's hair and then Koushi's. He walks over to Kagome and wraps his arms around her. "You smell good."
"You smell the food," she says.
Satoru hums. He smells the food, sure, but she smells so much better. "What kind of pancakes are you making?"
"Cinnamon." She motions to the stack on the counter with the spatula. "There's sausage and steak. We'll need to buy more meat for Shippo. He needs more than we do."
"We have enough for now, right?" He continues to hold on to her, enjoying how she feels in his arms.
"Yeah, but I can... really?"
"It's your day off." He kisses her shoulder and pulls away. Satoru sits down at the table next to Shippo. "You're leading the first mission today. It should have a bunch of curses, but no special grades. I'll be right there."
Shippo nods and then brightens when Kagome sets the plate of food in front of him. "I want to see the other students." He looks down at Koushi and then his plate, and frowns. Satoru rises and takes Koushi from him, so Shippo can eat. "Can we get some drawing stuff while we're out?"
Satoru pokes Koushi's belly with his finger. "You do a good job on the mission, and I'll get you a tablet so you can draw."
Kagome sighs as she sets the food down in front of him. "He's going to get addicted." She looks at Shippo. "There will be parental controls on it."
Shippo takes a bite out of his pancakes and presses one hand to his cheek as he chews. "I don't know what that is, but okay. Can I have more?"
"You really like sweets," Kagome comments, taking Shippo's plate and pilling it with more food. She grabs her own and sits down. "Instead of dinner, could Shoko just meet us for lunch?
"I forgot about her," Satoru says with a chuckle. "Yeah, whatever you want." He eyes Shippo for a moment. "Actually, I'm going to call her now, so she can meet Shippo before we go to the campus." He pulls out his phone and calls Shoko, putting her on video. She answers on the third ring. "You look like crap."
"And good morning to you too," Shoko grumbles. "What is it?"
"I just wanted to give you a head's up, that I'll be stopping by the campus before my first mission—"
"So?"
"So," Satoru continues. "You complained last time, so here's Shippo. My oldest." Satoru flips the phone around. Shippo waves, with a mouth full of steak.
"WHAT!"
"Why are you so loud?" Satoru turns the phone back to him. "Anyway, let everyone know so we can get it out of the way."
"I'm sorry." Shoko rubs her forehead. "You have two sons? And I'm just now hearing about this?" She glares at him. Kagome plucks the phone out of his hands. Not that he cares.
"Hi Shoko," Kagome greets.
"Oh! Hi!"
"Sorry about all of this. We had to keep things pretty secretive."
"Oh, no worries," Shoko chimes. "I get it. Satoru told me about the curse user who tried to go after you. I get why you guys kept your sons hidden as long as you did."
Satoru makes a face at the phone. Oh, so Kagome can tell Shoko and it's no problem, but he tries to show off his other kid and suddenly he's the bad guy? Satoru rolls his eyes and eats his food. Kagome and Shoko continue to talk for a bit, before Shoko says goodbye. Kagome slides the phone back to him.
"How'd you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Calm Shoko down."
Kagome stares at him. "Well, I started it off with an apology."
Shippo snickers. Koushi looks at Shippo and then at Satoru. He giggles too. Satoru blows out a breath.
"Hey... when Ijichi gets here, let's play a trick on him."
Kagome shakes her head and grabs Koushi to get him ready for the day, while Satoru and Shippo plan their first prank of the day.
"Good morning, underlings," Shippo chirps from Satoru's shoulders.
The students stare blankly at Shippo and then they glare at Satoru. Yaga takes his shades off and rubs his eyes. Nanami crosses his arms and not so discreetly checks his watch.
"Uh... sensei?" Yuta says, speaking for everyone. "You have another kid?"
"Yep, this is Shippo," Satoru says. Koushi kicks his feet, which causes Yuta to take a step back. "He's strapped in a baby carrier. He's not going to hurt you," Satoru says.
"Yeah... but he can teleport," Yuta replies. He rubs the back of his head. "So, Shippo? I take it Kagome-san is your mom?"
Shippo scoffs and hops down. "Of course, she's my mom." He reaches into his green jacket and pulls out a small fox statue. "I got everyone gifts... well, I only have enough for Papa's students." Shippo pulls out some more gifts, another small statue, some candy, and a spinner. The students look at each other and come to a consensus.
"Thanks, Shippo," Yuji says, going for the spinner.
Shippo chuckles and takes a step back. "Don't mention it." He looks back at Koushi and winks.
Satoru keeps his face blank. That didn't sound suspicious at all. "And where did you get these gifts?"
"I made them."
Satoru hums as he places a hand on the baby carrier, even though Koushi cannot feel his touch through the fabric. "You made them? And that's all they are?"
"Well..."
"AHHHH!" Yuji yells as the spinner grows larger. He spins and spins before being flung off into the distance.
"What kind of gift is this?" Yuta exclaims, planting a foot on the fox statue and trying to push it off his hand, but the statue doesn't budge.
Satoru bites his tongue. Kagome neglected to tell Shippo no tricks today, and Shippo is now taking advantage of that loophole. Whatever. He isn't a snitch, so Satoru shrugs. "You could take out a couple of enemies with that."
"I can't move my arm!"
"Skill issue."
Shippo laughs. Koushi babbles and then laughs too. "Ah, you want more?" Shippo asks Koushi, who babbles more. "You there, Panda." He points a finger at Panda.
"NO!" Panda holds out his hands, shaking his head. "I'm good."
"What do pandas hate?"
Panda frowns and scratches his head. "I don't like Zebras. One day, I'll punch one in the face." Panda shakes a fist as if he is imagining a zebra appearing in front of him.
"That sounds like animal abuse," Maki says.
"You're human. You wouldn't get it." Panda sniffs.
"Papa," Shippo whispers. "What's a zebra?"
Satoru pulls out his phone and squats down so Shippo can see. "Ohhh, got it." Shippo snaps his fingers, and a cloud of smoke appears where Panda was. The zebra... err, that's probably Panda, kicks his legs up and runs around the field like a maniac. In the confusion, Panda rams into Toge, sending him flying, but not nearly as far as wherever the hell Yuji ended up.
He should care more, but this is good training for his students. They should not be getting bested by his children.
Koushi shrieks and kicks his feet. His laughter is infectious.
"Who else?" Shippo asks, planting his hands on his hips. "My brother demands entertainment."
"Gojo get your child," Nanami says, tensely. He raises a brow when Shippo approaches him.
"Sorry," Shippo says, pulling out a piece of paper from his jacket. He bows and holds the paper out. "I won't do it again." Nanami huffs and takes the paper. Shippo backs away right as a smoke cloud appears.
Satoru turns his head away and coughs. That's uh something.
"GOJO!"
"It's been so much fun seeing everyone so early in the morning," Satoru says, motioning for Shippo to jump back on his shoulders. "But some of us do have work to do."
Nanami clenches his fists. "Change me back!" His once short blond hair now goes all the way to his waist. Gone is the freshly pressed suit and instead is some tan tube top and a skirt with slits on both sides. Perhaps he should not have let Shippo watch that movie.
Ino disguises a laugh behind a coughing fit.
Kusakabe backs away.
"Not once have I ever wondered what you would look like as a woman," Shoko says. "But now that I see it, I can't unsee it. I gotta say, that's some rack you got," Shoko jokes.
"This is indecent!" Nanami thrusts an arm out and then flushes. He crosses his arms over his chest and turns away.
"Do we not care about Yuji?" Nobara questions.
"I think he got off easy," Maki quips. "But why isn't Megumi getting bullied?"
"Megumi is my brother," Shippo announces. "He gets special immunity."
"Thank Kami," Megumi mutters.
"Turn me back!" Nanami bites out.
"Papa!" Shippo whines. "This man is scaring me. He's so angry."
Nanami falters. "What? No... I'm just asking you to turn me back."
"You're a grown man," Satoru says. "If you can't figure out how to change back, then maybe you need to do some more training."
A hush descends on the field. Shoko coughs. Nanami flushes pink and turns his head away. Satoru glances over at Mei Mei and gives a subtle nod. She holds up her fingers in the Okay symbol.
Good. This needs to get back to Naoya. He hopes Naoya is crumbled in his bed, too weak to move and seething with jealousy.
"Figure it out," Satoru reiterates. "Being a woman for the day shouldn't impede you from doing your missions."
"Wait!" Nobara holds up a hand. "What about Yuji?"
"What about him?"
Maki laughs. Nobara blinks and then shrugs. Yuta continues to kick at the fox statue attached to him, but it still does not budge.
"Meet us for lunch," Satoru says to Shoko. "I'll send you the details."
"You actually eat lunch now?" Shoko's eyebrows raise. "Kagome must have kami-like powers."
"My mama is amazing," Shippo chimes.
"She sure sounds like it," Shoko agrees. "Alright, send me the details and I'll meet you there." Shoko glances at the students and sighs. "Is there truly no way for you to turn them back?"
"I'm just a kid."
Satoru snorts.
"Got it... I'll figure it out then."
Yaga puts his shades back on and shakes his head. "Are you hiding any more children?"
Satoru smirks as he waves goodbye. He grabs Ijichi and then warps them to the car. Ijichi dry heaves and holds on to the car for balance. "It wasn't that bad," Satoru deadpans.
"You didn't warn me!"
"I waved goodbye to everyone. Anyway, get us to the next mission. Shippo is taking this one." Satoru gets Koushi settled in the car seat, while Shippo buckles himself in. He opts to ride in the front since the backseat is crowded with the car seat and Shippo in the back. "Why are you moving so slow?"
Ijichi sniffs as he starts the engine. "Kagome-san is much nicer. I like it when she is around."
Satoru crosses his arms over his chest and looks out the window. "You whine too much."
"Ijichi, do you need cheering up?" Shippo asks from the backseat.
"NO!" Ijichi coughs. "I mean, no, but thank you for the offer. I was just disappointed there were no bentos today. Kagome-san is an amazing cook."
"Oh, just tell Mama that. She'd make you lunch anytime or dinner."
Satoru turns his head and looks at Shippo, but the look goes over Shippo's head. That is one of the cons of wearing a blindfold. "Ijichi, find your own wife to make you food."
"How can I when I drive you around all the time?"
"Why not Shoko?" Shippo asks. "Your heart sped up when she walked over, and you smelled funny."
Ijichi chokes. "What?"
"He's got sensitive hearing and smell," Satoru says, playing it off. "You know, Koushi and I have real good eyes. Shippo didn't get the six eyes, but his other senses are heightened."
"That's terrifying." Ijichi clears his throat as he puts the car in park. "Did Ieiri-san's heart speed up when she saw me?"
"..."
Shippo unbuckles his seatbelt and hops out of the car. Satoru chuckles and pats Ijichi's shoulder. He gets out of the car and puts Koushi back in his carrier.
"Wait! You're taking Koushi too?"
"Better to take him than for him to teleport." Satoru shrugs and shuts the back door. Shippo jumps up and down and points at the old hospital. The place is crawling with curses. Behind them, Ijichi puts up the veil. "Alright, it's all you." He opens the doors and rocks side to side, keeping Koushi entertained.
"There are a lot of them." Shippo sniffs the air. "I can do whatever?"
"Well, try to keep the property damage to a minimum." Yaga is still giving him shit because he accidentally demolished some buildings last month.
Shippo nods. "I've been working on my illusions. I want to try it out."
"You mean changing people or yourself into different things?"
"No, I mean like full-scale illusions." Shippo rubs his hands together. The dust and grime fade away and gone are the counters, tile flooring, and the awful wallpaper, and left is...
"Shippo, what the hel—heck is this?"
"Candy land!" Shippo thrusts his arms out and spins around. The floor is pink. There are lollipops where the walls used to be, and gumdrops hang from what should be light fixtures. The ground rumbles and ten curses pop up behind a cage made of candy canes. "You said if I do a good job, then I can have a ta-b-let." Shippo snaps his fingers, and the cluster of curses erupts in blue flames.
Koushi shrieks and claps his hands.
"Heh. You like that?" Shippo rubs his nose. "Well, it's not perfect, but I'm working on it." The illusion fades as the last curse burns away.
Satoru hums. "I don't sense any more curses here... alright, let's go get that tablet then." He squats down and holds out his hand.
"What are you doing?"
"High-five." He mimics a high-five.
"Oh." Shippo slaps his palm on Satoru's palm. "Did I really do a good job?"
Satoru smiles. "You did amazing. Naturally, you're my son." He motions for Shippo to hop on his shoulders. "Say, what if we played an illusion on Ijichi? For practice."
Shippo crackles. "On it."
A/N: I didn't tell you guys to take care last update and it bothered me all of Saturday. I think it's the mom in me.
"Can Shippo do a domain expansion?" - No, but they can play off his illusions as doing one. He's young here, so the illusions don't do as much as they would in the verses where he is older.
Next chapter will be Kagome meeting with Ayumi and then lunch with Shoko.
Let me know which story you want updated next week (this week if you count Sunday as a new week). It's still really freaking hot in the house, but we are adapting so it doesn't feel as unbearable as it did at first lol. Take care. Get plenty of rest. Stay hydrated. And I hope you have an awesome week.
