THIS CHAPTER was originally Chapter 32.

Confused and angry, school was a war, my home was a prison and work had turned into a tragedy. I am sorry, but I was so afraid to fight.

Had our everyday lives remained the same, in our world of ambivalence, in our state of indifference – I sincerely don't think I would have minded very much. Doing the same old thing every day – eventually to be punctuated by a lazy Sunday afternoon. Up until the day I died, if nothing changed, I would be content, and I would be all right…

Criticized by my elders, and ridiculed by my peers – it seemed that my desire to stay as I was, and my refusal to go against the will of inertia, the hatred for change was deemed 'irresponsible', 'foolish' and somewhat 'despicable'.

Man's greatest folly is their inability to be content with what they have. They risk it all, leap forward, and when they lose, they simply blame it on someone else. Man's greatest joke, is convincing each other that being content with what they had was never enough. Then they fail. They eventually realize that what they needed was what they held before, and now it was gone.

…oh but it took me a lifetime of loss to figure it out. It takes everyone forever to SEE it. For, much like rain, it touches all without prejudice or discrimination. 'I could have…', 'I should have…' I should have been more cautious, I should have been braver, I should have changed, and I should have stayed the same. I should have said those words to her; I should have kept silent with him. Regret touched all those who tried so hard to change – and FAILED.

I was so happy and I was content if nothing had changed.

Yet, a cruel man came into my kingdom, turned it upside down, and if he continues to breed chaos into my life – I promise, he will regret the day he crossed paths with me – if you choose to disturb this sleeping beast, you will unleash a world of regret upon yourself. You, who crossed paths with me - and FORCED me to change.

Chapter 49: The End of la Bizarre love Pentagon (part 1)

I love my brother, and I know that he loves me. And it wasn't just because the WORLD told him he had to.

"No, King told me that." Her brother, Ryosuke Sakazaki answered in a bland grumble the moment he caught his spare helmet in his grasp.

Even when I told him I would break his arm again, Robert refused to tell me, and I don't know what happened [that lazy afternoon] 10 years ago – but that was what she told me when I came to challenge her 2 years after when I happened to find my way outside L'Amour.

In the end… she refused fight me, and I went home.

...

"What day is it today...?" Mrs. Williams ran her finger down the class roster and when she found her mark, called out to her Portuguese class. "Ms. Sakazaki..?"

"Friday." Yuri replied slowly.

"No, no, no… Em Portugues; Que dia e hoje, Ms. Sakazaki?"

"Uhhh.. unn..." Yuri tried to stall as best she could with long pauses.

"Sexta-feira..." Mousse whispered from the next seat.

"Sexta-feira." Yuri said flatly.

"That's good that's good." Williams congratulated, but rather blandly at that.

{Why did I take this class...} Yuri sighed, rubbing her temples slowly with her thumb and index finger. {Who said it was an easy A. I'm gonna drop this for sure.}

"Am I going to see you tonight in La Bijoux, Yuri?" Mousse whispered.

"..." Yuri didn't say anything and gave a blank look.

"I'm sorry Yuri. I..."

{For what?}

I'm so sorry.

...

With the red payphone handset clipped between her cheek and shoulder, Yuri fiddled with the phone card in her hand for a while, second-guessing herself and holding back. Lunch break was almost over. Today was a slow, restless day. King was drinking again last night, and it didn't seem like the happy kind. Yuri just couldn't get it off of her mind. All these thoughts constantly clouded her mind and prevented her from functioning properly. If it kept up, she'd surely feel the brunt of it next week when the results of her Portuguese oral came out, and the same went for her chemistry quiz.

"Shoot." Yuri finally gave in as she slipped the phone card in the slot and dialed away.

Two rings.

"Hullo?" A deep voice answered in a gruff, harsh tone.

"Uh..." Yuri carefully greeted, "This is Yuri Sakazaki, is Ryosuke-oniisan (big brother) there?"

"OH!" The voice suddenly changed tone to a sweeter note. "Yuri-san. This is Matt... You know... The bouncer guy."

"Ah..." Yuri smiled at the payphone meekly. "Uh.. Hi... How are you?" She nervously said, now placing all ten fingers on the handset, and choosing her words carefully.

"Great. You in school?" Matt started some small talk.

"Uh, yeah... Listen, I'd like to talk but uh... class is about to start and I gotta..."

"I understand... Here, let me get Ryosuke-san." Matt eagerly said.

Yuri heard Matt set the phone down and sighed in relief. In the background Yuri heard a familiar voice. "WHU!? It'ssa hoe, Yuri?" It was Battler, a voice Yuri dreaded. However, it was all set aside when she heard "OKAY BATTLER! You're getting it now!" said Matt. Yuri grinned evilly.

"…" After a few moments, Yuri heard a slight tap at the other end of the line but no words came out.

"Hi. Oniisan." Yuri replied.

"…?" Still wordless, a few grunts was her reply, and she knew well enough…

"Uh... yeah... I'm in school."

"Well, what do you need?" Finally she was rewarded by her brother's voice.

"Are you free right now, Oniisan?"

"?"

"Uhn, can you pick me up and give me a lift?"

"..." Ryo emphasized.

"Uhm, yeah... I'm in school, but I don't feel like attending my other classes..."

"No, goodbye."

"UH HUH! Hold up, Oniisan" Yuri kicked in, now full of pep. "Maybe I should tell Master about a CERTAIN guy who faked a sprain to get out of training... neeeeeeeh..."

Silence...

"Okay." Ryo scoffed. "You win. I'll be there. Just stay next to the main gate."

"Dooooomo!" Yuri said in a cute cheeky tone, thanking Ryosuke.

Hanging up the phone.

How convenient. Yuri's bag and bomber jacket was already next to her.

Waiting.

After 35 minutes, Yuri heard the familiar, booming low-rider engine and jumped out of the bushes. She made a quick sweep to see if anyone was watching and when she was sure the coast was clear, her body burst into an explosive dash straight towards the wall surrounding the school. Her left foot hit solidly onto the brick and without slowing her pace, she redirected the impulse that begun to claw up her leg and Yuri RAN up parallel to the wall. As the last of the kinetic energy fizzled away, the tips of her fingers were barely able to reach over the 8 foot wall – that was all she needed to swing her support hand to nimbly pull herself up and clear the barricade. At the other side was Ryo leaning next to his Harley Davidson motorbike with his armoured black rider's jacket and blue jeans under leather chaps.

"UWA!" Yuri said thumbs up, turning over her shoulder. "Yarujanaika?! (cool eh?)" She proclaimed to the invisible crowd with a shining grin that reached from ear to ear.

"This is all of an audience you'll ever get." Ryo coughed.

"Pooh." Yuri pouted in a slouch, she waved her limp arms lethargically from side to side and held herself in that pose until she noticed a woman next to her brother. "Do na ta desu ka? (who is that?!)"

A tall blonde haired woman stood a few feet from Ryo.

"Michelle, this is as far as I go. Walk the rest of the way." Ryo said flatly.

"That's Mari." Mari corrected, curling her eyes up and replied in a nasal tone.

Yuri slapped her face dead center, and let her hand ooze down in disappointment. {My brother, the bimbo magnet.} She sighed. {Anyway...} "Pleased to meet you, Mari." Yuri said as peach-pleasantly as she could, forcing a soft smile. She held out her hand.

Mari held Yuri's hand in aristocratic fashion only for a split second and casually withdrew it acting as if she had accidentally touched a pile of garbage.

"Oh... Is this your DARLING sister, Ryo-chan...?" Mari began.

{RYO-ChAn!?} Yuri's face grimaced in excruciating fear and dread at the mere audacity of it all.

"Here, take her helmet, Yuri." Ryosuke instructed as he tossed it overhead to his sister – she could tell that he valiantly held back the snarl from deep down his throat.

"But Ryo-chan!" Mari huffed. "You told me you'd take me shopping today."

"Minnie, I SAID, walk..." Ryosuke reminded, slightly more firmly now.

"I don't think you HEARD me, Ryo-chan…" Mari was quick to cut Ryosuke.

Yuri felt her gut collapse into itself. Her fist curled and she clenched her teeth. As she braced herself for a familiar feeling, she knew well enough. She instinctively took a step back. {Don't walk this road, girl…} Yuri thought. {Don't go there…}

Mari put her hand on her hip and snobbishly walked a step towards Yuri's brother. Yuri knew well enough, that this girl was about ready…

"NO! I SAID!" Ryosuke roared, Yuri heard that steel cable twist one last time and thunder as it snapped into two pieces. "I'M TAKING MY SISTER, and you'll LEAVE ME ALONE!"

…Yuri knew that if she walked that road, she would have been better off trying to catch a live grenade. His name is Ryosuke, and you'll know soon enough to not make him repeat himself.

TODAY IS FRIDAY afternoon… and SUDDENLY, nothing else mattered anymore.

Speeding in between trucks and slow moving cars, racing through them without a care – it took Yuri a few moments to get used to it every time. As her elder brother fearlessly pushed his motorbike full throttle through the asphalt streets, Yuri didn't even realize until too late that he was about to dive without a care right into the tail end of a semi truck ten times their size.

Yuri hugged his brother's stomach tight. She put her helmet next to his. She wanted to scream "Oniichan! Look out!" She wanted to scream to her brother just the exact moment she thought they were going to crash into sure death. But, at the last moment, she held her tongue.

Instead of screaming out loud! Screaming to her brother that she didn't want to die, because if she were to scream, the vibration from her helmet would transfer into his and even if the roaring noise of traffic would have blocked it all conventionally, he would surely hear him.

But now, instead, she held herself the last moment. She bit her tongue and remained silent just when she thought she was about to die. Because, she remembered...

As his reply, a crass grunt reverberated through her helmet when Ryosuke cocked the handlebars to the side. The bike jumped forward, only to swerve the last moment, and hide between a space just barely enough for them to safely escape. Without the safety of a hard steel shell around them, Ryosuke's motorbike that zoomed at 80 miles an hour, weaving through traffic – its body bobbing back and forth dexterously, at its limits, and with purpose, felt like it was going 130 miles an hour with grave consequence.

I was afraid… so afraid to fight… BUT, she remembered… Even nine years ago…

She tightened her grip around Ryosuke's stomach, but not because she was afraid. She held her brother's body close to her, so she could feel his heartbeat - his warm, familiar body close to hers. She remembered that for as long as her brother was alive… She would never have to fear anything. Yuri slowly opened her eyes that now were glazed with cool, reassuring tears, and smiled. This feeling… Yes, I felt it before.

Yuri opened her eyes, and smiled a wide radiating beam. As a reward, the world presented to her an unmoving picture. Fearlessly, Yuri gazed at the cars, the trucks, and the rest of the world's existence almost stand still and move at a turtle's peace. Fear was now replaced with faithful confidence. No one, and nothing could harm her. Even if anyone else who looked upon that blonde haired Japanese boy, who command his bike to roar and thunder at insane speeds, thought them insane, only at THIS SPEED, could Yuri see it all clearly.

Yuri didn't see her life flash in front of her eyes. She just saw the world exist at a different pace. Had she closed her eyes, she would have missed it all. At such a lightning speed, everything else but NOW held little importance. Yuri kept her eyes open and smiled brightly.

We are young, we are foolish, but, we are also - invincible.

...

For Ryosuke and his sister, Yuri, when travelling at such speeds, nothing else seemed to matter, and it was too amusing to look at people who fancied themselves of great importance seem to freeze in time as you left them behind. Everyone stopped for you, and you were beyond it all.

Yuri's mind wiped itself clean into a blank white canvas. Even when she tried, none of the contorted worries that plagued her every day dared to come to mind. She simply smiled and gently laid her helmet on Ryosuke's back as she often did.

Ryosuke continued to crank down on the machine, pushing his bike faster, swerving through steel obstacles and barely zooming past traffic signals – up until the point that the people around, frozen in place simply degraded into faded images, and the loud blaring sound became a white noise that she could no longer hear. Until her mind was body was clear and at peace.

However, at the final brink of silence, a thought violently invaded her mind. Just when she thought she was rid of all her demons, and she had reached a place that nobody could harm her - ironically THAT disgusting thought grabbed onto her ankle and jolted her awake.

Of all the things that could have passed the time, it was HIS disgusting face that she saw.

She felt her stomach collapse into a sour knot, and the back of her shoulders tense and contract uncomfortably. Yuri bit down hard on her lip and wordless, tried to keep herself from puking.

FUCK HIM!

A sudden shock that penetrated his gut like a knife twisted him in similar fashion. At their breakneck speed, Ryosuke could feel every single motion and that one short, sudden disturbance was enough to jar his concentration and made the front end of his motorbike twist violently, zigzagging out of control. Left and right, the metal octane beast jerked like an enraged, wild stallion. Yuri immediately diverted her entire attention forward and tightened her grip once again around his body, desperately trying to match his flow. THE FEAR. IT WILL OVERCOME YOU. The front of the bike jerked to the right into a whirlpooling death. The claws of gravity took a large bite and dragged them down deep to one side into the black depair. On instinct, Yuri pulled up, she wanted to thrust her entire body weight to the other side, away from the asphalt that was rushing towards her face now. THE FEAR WILL DEVOUR YOU – AND YOU WILL WANT TO PULL AWAY. It's human nature, don't be ashamed of it.

Despite her plea, her brother's solid body would not move. In a few moments they would surely meet the pavement, but he kept his bodyweight to the same side of the drift and center of gravity centered axis with the steel machine. Instead of panicking and twisting his handlebars opposite flow, he let the fear take its course, and meet it head-on without fighting it. He paid it no heed – because this evil beast had its way with him before, and would not take his sister this time. The motorcycle tilted dangerously to the right, and even when the end was surely just moments away Ryosuke didn't look away. Her brother's arms relaxed their reigns from the monster and let it do as it wished, swerving past the intersection just as the light turned red, and once it crept down to a manageable speed, Ryosuke pulled her back in and tilted their world upright once again for both of them. A few stutters and a growl – the boy put his supporting leg on the ground to steady themselves, turned round slowly and made their way back to the intersection. He patiently waited and turned right when safe and returned back to path from their detour to their original path.

The sudden realization came and left Yuri's body in an instant; Only her frozen extremities reminded her that had her brother not reacted properly moments prior, they may have met an early demise too early in their story.

Yuri slowed her breath and pulled her body tight onto Ryosuke's. Without a word Yuri looked up to her brother's back, and when he made no motion to react, Yuri just laid still, commanding her heartbeat to calm down to a reasonable beat. For a few minutes Ryosuke said nothing. He continued to drive and maintained his speed until finally Yuri heard him say, "Is it that asshole at work I heard about?" Ryosuke's voice vibrated through their helmets just like when we tied together cans with strings as children.

"Yeah." Yuri replied flatly to her brother as they continued their esoteric conversation at 86 miles an hour.

What was Yuri to do – what can I do now? Now that everything turned to hell. I want to fight him I want to crush him, and I wish he would simply disappear.

What's wrong then?

"I'm afraid, Oniichan…" Yuri answered half-heartedly - somewhat ashamed. I am so ashamed of being Kyokugen. Yet even as she blurted that out, it took her moments later when the engine died down to a true silence - to realize that her brother and she were having a conversation…

For as long as she had been alive, she knew that Ryosuke was never too good with words - that much Yuri knew, so she simply lived her life and accepted the fact that she would speak her mind without expecting an answer from him. Maybe Yuri thought that his 'silence' was answer enough, because oftentimes lesser men couldn't even provide such a service to sincerely good girls who never wanted to do others harm from vanity.

'It be better if a man remain silent, rather than speak.'

For only speak – only – if it improves upon silence.

It's okay to be [afraid], because people often confuse being [stupid] with being [brave]. Why would you put yourself in a situation you don't want to be in?

"Still, I hate it. Eventhough I know I can't beat him, I hate it." Yuri puffed, as they weaved through traffic and chose striped lanes freely… it took her moments later to realize that her brother and she were having a conversation, half occurring in silence.

Sometimes she wondered – was she truly blessed, to be able to understand her brother eventhough he uttered no words to her, and was he so great that he could somehow read her mind? But she knew better. Despite all she made the world to believe, he was no mind reader, and she shared no magical bond with her brother.

Yuri was selfish, senseless and alone. Ryosuke simply ignored everyone that didn't interest him, and Yuri came to grips with the fact that she simply 'filled in the blanks' and heard what she wanted to hear from her brother. EVERSINCE THAT DAY, so many years ago when Mr. Big hit my brother so hard in the temple and crushed the side of his head. It must've hurt so much, Oniichan. Yuri bit her lip and wanted to bawl out crying. It must have hurt SO MUCH.

Eversince that day, that horrid condition had gotten so much worse, and she just ignored the fact that her brother was drifting away. Yuri closed her eyes and hugged her brother harder. {I… I'm sorry…} she thought silently.

"What you gotta be sorry about?" Ryosuke immediately replied out loud.

Yuri was sure she said nothing. No, she made sure she kept her lips together and didn't utter a word. Despite holding it back her mind spoke on its own in the raging noise. Yuri's eyelids parted this way… Ryosuke surely spoke out loud.

Perhaps I only wanted to hear what I wanted to hear and made this all up – but just for at least this one moment, I can believe that some instances can surpass conventional human logic. Yuri opened her eyes and smiled. Perhaps any other girl her age would have glared wide eyed in disbelief, but Yuri knew it all along. Maybe you could really hear me in that dark silent world?

"Nothing. Thank you, Oniisan." She replied through their helmets.

"Let me take that." Ryo offered to take care of Yuri's helmet. "It's the sixth floor. 609. You have to make your own way home."

"Okay." Yuri replied brushing the tops of her pants and pulling the helmet from her head.

"Or…" he stopped, "if it's too late, just call me at home."

"Okay..." Yuri said, standing unmoving, not seeming to want to let her brother go.

"…" Ryosuke shuffled his head to get her attention. "A wise woman once told me this…" he mumbled.

There are people who will challenge you for sport, but much too often, people will FIGHT you solely with the intent to do you harm. Do not confuse one with the other.

Yuri slung her bag over her one shoulder and ran her other hand through her twisted hair. She looked back at Ryosuke and said nothing back.

If so, let them bring the fight TO YOU. But, when they do, just be prepared to fight them, and DO NOT STOP – until they stop breathing. That way you can have no regrets…

"Who said that to you? Mommy?" Yuri forced a wistful grin. She wrapped her left hand over the side of her helmet and with a firm curl thrust it forward with her other hand. She passed the helmet like a basketball across the way into her brother's waiting arms.

He caught it in his arms, but it didn't slow him down… "'IF they want it SO badly. Then let them COME to you... and TAKE it, but at that time hold nothing back – because those who meet you solely to do you harm, do so, not to test your courage.'" Ryosuke quoted. "No, King told me that."

"King?" was all Yuri could blurt out before her brother twisted his beloved Harley around the other way and sped off, leaving a cloud of dust behind. Yuri tilted her head sideways – and when she was sure he couldn't hear her she said,

"That's pretty creepy…"

-cut here-

609.

That's what it said on the door.

Yuri looked up hesitantly and before she could stop herself, turn around and run away, she found herself rapping the back of her knuckles on the wooden door.

"Robert… san?" Yuri hesitantly called.

"HEY Robbie-san.!" the horribly worn, tasked, now 20 year old, blonde haired boy said, his serrated grin filled through the door's fisheye peephole. "HEY…"

Do you remember me?

No answer. The process continued for 8 minutes until Yuri heard something close to a moan. The door opened slowly. Robert was looking at Yuri groggishly, he wore nothing more than his smiley face boxer shorts and a white undershirt.

"Robert?" Yuri asked rather concerned, covering her face with her hands instinctively while peeking through her fingers. "What… What the fuck's up with you?"

Robert looked beat up and unshaven. A downright barbarian. Strands of his black hair were streaming down his face, no help from his ponytail.

"Oro.. Donya? (What's up?)" Robert slurred sluggishly in his countryside Kansai dialect, showing no effort to conceal it like he always did. Robert took a step forward but his knees folded immediately and he fell on Yuri's shoulders. Yuri's knees buckled at the sudden strain, and she doubled up as she valiantly tried to hoist Robert's entire drunken body up.

"OI! GARCIA!" Yuri shouted as loud as she dared. "Don't die on me." Forcing out a worried laugh. Please.

Please, I came all this way – I tried so hard, and I had expected YOU to hold me up.

Hold me up – when I thought ALL was lost. "Tatakau no ka? Moo, Ikuka.. Ore no ban da! (Is it time to fight? Fine.. It's my turn.)" Robert mumbled a slurred drunken stupor.

Bravely, I took a step forward, eventhough I was afraid. Instead I was welcomed with such a sight. We hate taking risks, we hate crying, and we hate being AFRAID. Please, do not destroy this life I had spent so MUCH TIME to build. I was SO happy before I laid eyes upon you. Simply by existing, Clark Steel, why did you have to destroy my friends and I this way!?

I HATE YOU.

I HATE YOU. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE YOU. I wish you'd just DIE.

"I'll fight you… because I promised you, my..." Robert gurgled in short gasps.

{Yes… Yes yes yes.} with a razorlike fang toothed grin, the small boy smiled from the confines of the room that tore love apart. {I exist, only to make you stronger.} Through PAIN.

PLEASE, please dear God. Don't make me regret anything else I choose to do. "Please…" Yuri pleaded. {I'll fight you! I'LL FIGHT YOU. You ASSHOLE.} Yuri declared. Robert Garcia. While he may have been a simple, stupid, weak boy to you. To me… TO ME. He was the strongest man alive. HOW DARE YOU?! How DARE you turn him to this mess!?

I can't take it any more. Mou… gaman DEKINAI!

I PROMISE, I will NOT stop… I promise, I won't stop, AND, I WILL DESTROY YOU.

…until you stop breathing.
