Please Don't Leave Me: Chapter 8 : [ Three Days Later]

Two more days went by , and Betsy woke up the next morning to find that Randy's fever had broken. ''Daddy , Randy's fever is completely gone'' ! ; Betsy exclaimed as she burst through the kitchen door. ''Thank goodness , Betsy''! ; the Judge exclaimed from where he was sitting. Would you like to come up and see how he's doing , Daddy ? ; Betsy asked.

There's nothing I'd like better , Betsy , ; the Judge said as he got up. We'll have to have the doctor come out and take a look at Randy , ; the Judge said as they went upstairs.

Yes , we will , ; Betsy replied when they reached the guest room. Hello, Randy , Betsy tells me your fever broke this morning , ; the Judge said when they came in to find Randy sitting up.

Mornin' , Judge , ; Randy said cheerfully. It's good to see you up , Randy , ; the Judge said kindly. It's good to be up , Judge , ; Randy replied with a smile. I'm glad to see you're feeling better , ; the Judge added warmly. I'm sure glad to be feelin' better , Judge , ; Randy said good-naturedly. Daddy , could you go and find The Virginian and Trampas and bring them here , please ? ; Betsy asked.

Of course , Betsy , ; the Judge said as he left the room.

Are you hungry , Randy ? ; Betsy asked pleasantly. I could eat a horse , Betsy ! ; Randy joked. Well , I'll see if I can find you something a little more substantial than a horse , Randy ! ; Betsy laughed. Okay , Betsy , ; Randy said with a laugh.

I'll be right back , Randy , ; Betsy said as she left the room. ''There must be something left over from breakfast'' , ; Betsy said as she walked downstairs to the kitchen. ''Yes , I see Daddy made eggs, bacon , and biscuits'' , ; Betsy said as she filled a plate for Randy and went back upstairs with it. ''I'm back now , Randy , ; Betsy said as she came into the room.

Here you go , ; Betsy said as she handed him the plate. That sure looks good , Betsy , ; Randy said as he dug in. Is it better than a horse , Randy ? Betsy teased. That's for sure , Betsy! ; Randy laughed. On second thought , a horse would've been tough and hard to chew ! ; Randy joked. You've got that right , Randy! ; Betsy laughed. I think I hear Daddy and The Virginian and Trampas coming upstairs now , ; Betsy said as Randy ate.

Here they come now , ; Betsy said when she saw them in the hallway.

Hello , Virginian , hello Trampas , ; Betsy said cheerfully when they came in. Hi , Betsy , ; Trampas said enthusiastically. Hi , Betsy , it's good to see you , ; The Virginian said. Hi Randy , it's good to see you up and around , boy, ; The Virginian said with a friendly smile.

Mornin' , boss , ; Randy replied cheerfully. Hey , Trampas , it's good to see you , ; Randy said , giving his friend a friendly smile.

Hey , Randy , it's good to see you up and around , ; Trampas said with a grin. Boy , you sure had me and the other boys in the bunk - house worried about you , Randy! ; Trampas exclaimed. It's nice to know ya'll worried , Trampas , ; Randy said , grinning back playfully at Trampas. So Randy , has Betsy been taking good care of you ? ; The Virginian asked. She sure has , boss, ; Randy replied , smiling at him and Betsy.

Has she tried to hog-tie you yet , Randy ? ; Trampas joked. No , but she would if I tried to get out of this bed! ; Randy laughed. Oh , you two ! ; Betsy laughed. Yes , my daughter's taken fine care of your friend , Trampas , ; the Judge said with a facetious smile. I can see you've done a fine job , Betsy , ; Trampas said. You've really done a wonderful job with Randy , Betsy , ;

The Virginian said.

Thanks , you two , ; Betsy said with a smile. Well , Trampas and I had better be going , Judge , ; The Virginian said.

Randy , it's good to see you're doing better , you had us worried, ; The Virginian said warmly. It was good to see both of you , boss, ; Randy said with a smile. I'm sure sorry for worryin' ya'll , ; Randy said good-naturedly. That's alright , Randy , it could've happened to anybody , ; Trampas said kindly. You just focus on getting better , Randy , ; The Virginian said. Thanks for stoppin' by , boss , ; Randy replied.

I was glad to , Randy , ; The Virginian said. Anyway , thanks for stoppin' by , Trampas , ; Randy said with a friendly smile.

I was glad to , Randy , and it's good to see you up and around , ; Trampas said with a grin. And Randy ? ; Trampas said.

Yeah , Trampas ? ; Randy asked. Hurry back , will ya , because we sure do miss ya , partner! ; I'll sure do that , Trampas , ; Randy said.

I miss ya'll , too , ; Randy added. See you later , Randy , ; The Virginian said as they left. I'll see you and Trampas out , Virginian , ; the Judge said in a friendly voice. See ya , Randy! ; Trampas called out as they left.

That was nice of them to drop by , Randy , ; Betsy said as he finished eating. It sure was , Betsy , ; Randy replied. If you're done , I'll take your plate to the kitchen , ; Betsy said.

Thanks , Betsy , ; Randy said as he handed her the plate.\

I'll be right back , Randy , ; Betsy said as she left the room.

[ Hope I captured the special relationship that Randy had with his ''older brothers'' { namely The Virginian and Trampas} on ''The Virginian'' , and how Randy was valued as a loyal friend to the boys in the bunk-house.]
