Note: I am crossover trash and two of my favorite fandoms, Sailor Moon and Juuni Senshi Bankuretsu Eto Rangers inspired that Chiropterans are the descendants of a moon goddess and a bat spirit hence they are referred to as Lunar Bat Immortals in ancient times. Obviously, I'm also canon divergent trash so I'm going to ignore Junichi Fujisaku's statement that Chiropterans are aliens even though being part Lunarian may somewhat count as being part alien? Idk.
Jolie's voice claim is Charlize Theron if that helps you imagine her voice as you're reading the story.
The reason Jolie has red eyes even though Saya Otonashi from Blood has reddish-brown eyes that glow red when in Chiropteran mode is because the first Chiropterans were daughters of a moon goddess and a bat spirit, so the first Red Queen had dark red eyes that glowed red when in Chiropteran mode. Jolie is an older generation hence she still retains the dark red eyes and by the time we reach Saya's generation, a lot of human blood has mixed into their bloodline as chevaliers or "imperial guards" in ancient days as I call them in my headcanon thanks to the third Blood novel using that term are half human, Red Queens have reddish-brown eyes that glow red.
Ouille: A French word that means "ouch".
Thanks to Lullabyes who came up with the headcanon that Chiropterans can drink blood and extract knowledge and memories.
In her wanderings, Jolie came across a forest and there was a large tree with a boy wrapped in large roots against the tree. He looked to be 15 years old and asleep. He had unusually long white hair, a tanned complexion, and did he have cat ears? He wore red clothes and Jolie assumed he was a nobleman since back in Europe, only the nobility was allowed to wear red. Was that a battered sword tied to his red fabric belt? How long had he been sleeping for? The boy's circumstances oddly reminded her of a tale her mother had once told her of two sleeping princesses who would've slept forever, perhaps for 100 years had it not been for two princes who woke them up with True Love's Kiss.
Jolie carefully got on top of the tall tree roots to inspect the boy. He was undoubtedly handsome, and he looked very peaceful. He didn't smell dead, but she didn't hear a pulse. She felt his neck and wrist's pulse point before pressing her ear to his chest. His body was unusually warm but there was no heartbeat.
If this boy was a nobleman and she woke him up with a kiss despite not loving him, perhaps they could marry, and she could at least live a comfortable life in this country. She sweated, her hands were shaky, and her heart pounded as she held his face. Perhaps she was utterly nervous since she never thought her first kiss would turn out to be this way! In the tale her mother told her, two princes performed True Love's Kiss, the situation seemed reversed aside from the fact she had no feelings for him. How was she going to fit her lips against his with his head turned to the side in his slumber? She tilted her head and as her head approached his, she closed her eyes, blushing as her lips shook as she kissed him and thought "Please… Wake up…"
Although there was no pulse to be heard from the boy, his thick black brows crinkled before he started to groan then as he processed the kiss, he opened his golden amber eyes and began to growl. Jolie's dark red eyes widened in surprise at his groan, and she gasped at his growl before she fell back on her butt.
She closed her eyes as she started rubbing her bottom. "Ouille…"
"Who the hell are you and why did you kiss me?!"
The girl who kissed him while he was unconscious had parted bangs, black hair that was tied in a high ponytail that reached her back, she wore a gray hooded cloak, and a foreign pale pink dress.
She promptly stood up as she indignantly responded, "Why I never!"
She had assumed that he was a nobleman because of his red clothes which were only meant for nobles back in Europe but was it not the case here? Back in her continent of origin, a peasant would get fined by the sumptuary laws for wearing a color reserved by nobles. A gentleman would not use foul language as he just did.
The boy noted that even though the girl addressing him looked 16, she had a husky, mature voice.
"Answer my damn question."
She gave him a stern look with her dark red eyes. "Hmph. My name is Jolie."
The boy scrunched up his brows. "That's an odd name."
"I was born and raised in France. It's a French name. It means "pretty"."
The boy scoffed. He had to admit, she was aptly named although he wouldn't confess such things out loud.
"You don't look like you're from around here. How can you speak this country's language?"
"I'm a Lunar Bat Immortal. I can extract knowledge from human blood at will."
"Lunar Bat Immortal? Never of heard of them before."
"Lunar Bat Immortals are the descendant of a Moon goddess and a bat spirit."
He gave a skeptical hmm. He could tell from her scent that despite her humanoid appearance, she had a fraction of human blood but wasn't exactly human just like him.
Despite his gruff tone, his cheeks were somewhat reddened. "Why the hell did you kiss me?"
Jolie's cheeks also got red at his question and her eyes slightly widened but she quickly schooled her features.
"Well, judging from your red clothing, I assumed you were a nobleman but that may not be the case."
The boy scoffed. Even though she didn't seem to be afraid of his demonic features even though she wasn't human herself, the girl wanted a wealthy man for selfish reasons.
"What would you do if I turned out to be one then?"
"Well, if I woke you up and freed you from your spell, you'd marry me as repayment, and I could live a comfortable life in this country."
The boy scoffed. This girl sure had things all planned out.
He raised a dubious brow. "Why'd you think kissing would wake me up?"
"Because, when I was a little girl, my mother told me and my sister a story about two princesses freed from a spell of eternal slumber by True Love's Kiss and your circumstances seemed to resemble the tale somewhat."
The Sleeping Beauties in the tale were still beautiful even in slumber and they were not dead.
The boy scoffed. Even though the girl had self-serving intentions, her methods were oddly endearing, but he was still irritated at the girl being presumptuous for thinking he would marry her like that.
"Keh. You're childish for believing in fairy tales."
Jolie scoffed. "And yet, here you are awake even though I do not love you!"
That was ironic, he had to admit. There was no way she could be his true love, right?
The boy sneered. "Anyways, you're an idiot for thinking I'm a noble just cause' I'm wearing red. Serves you right."
Jolie scoffed. "Back where I come from, only nobles are allowed to wear red!"
The boy widened his eyes before smirking. "Well, that's not the case here."
Jolie exhaled as she held her forehead.
"Guess you wasted your time."
Jolie frowned. "Unfortunately. Gentlemen don't use foul language like you do."
He smirked. "Probably or they just swear when women aren't looking. So, what's a foreigner like you doing so far from home?"
"I was sold into slavery." Jolie did her best to swallow the lump in her throat. She did not wish to show weakness in front of a stranger.
"My ship got in a storm, and I washed up here."
He blinked. Damn. Is that why she was so desperate for a nobleman to help her live in this land?
"And what about you? What witch did you offend to end up like this?"
He scoffed as he turned to the side. "I don't really wanna talk about how I ended up like this. But it's not because of a witch."
Jolie's interest was piqued. "If I… If I told you how exactly I got sold into slavery, would you tell me then?"
The boy could sense the vulnerability in her tone. He looked to the side. "Maybe."
Jolie inhaled and exhaled to steel herself. She told him how Lunar Bat Immortals were born as female twins with eyes of red and blue. How her red-eyed aunt was favored over her blue-eyed mother by her blue-eyed grandmother which was why her mother resented her at birth and tried to strangle her as an infant were it not for her father's intervention. Her mother, a dark arts practitioner put a spell on herself to love Jolie but on her 150th birthday, she wanted to see the city by herself without her younger twin which enraged her mother, making the spell break. Her mother told her why she resented her, and Jolie fell unconscious before finding that she had been sold into slavery.
"Your mother sounds like a piece of work." The boy remarked bitterly.
He felt an odd sense of understanding towards her. Thinking she was loved when she wasn't. Left to a horrible fate because of the deception. He supposed he should give her some form of an answer as to his own fate.
"…I stole a jewel known as the Jewel of Four Souls. It's known to grant any wish and make demons more powerful. I wanted to use it to be a full demon."
"Are you half demon?"
"Yeah, half human, half demon."
"But why? Because you wanted power?"
"Yeah, what of it?"
"So, you were pinned to the tree as punishment for stealing the jewel?"
"Yeah. The priestess who guarded it pinned me here."
He thought it was over for him. He never thought he'd be reawakened by a kiss.
"I see. I never got your name." Jolie tilted her head.
"It's Inuyasha."
Jolie scrunched up her brows. "It means… Dog… Demon? I thought you had cat ears."
Inuyasha made a derisive snort. "Yeah, it does. Dunno why my old man came up with it and no, these are dog ears."
His white ears twitched and Jolie found the motions oddly cute as her dark red eyes widened.
"Oh, because they can move whereas cat ears don't."
Jolie tilted her head at Inuyasha. "Perhaps because your father wanted to remind you of your heritage."
Inuyasha gave Jolie a stern look before leaning his head back on the tree. "Who knows."
He tried getting his hand near the arrow but it glowed lavender light in protest.
"Damn! Hey, can you try pulling out the arrow?"
"I… Suppose."
She held out her gray cloak. "Here, bite my cloak. The arrow has been in you for who knows how long, if I pull out the arrow, it will be excruciatingly painful, and your teeth might shatter from clenching."
Inuyasha scoffed. "I'm tougher than you think!"
"Even so, it will help with enduring the pain!"
He furrowed his brows. "You sure about this? Don't complain if your cloak gets holes."
"I'll wear it, holes and all."
Just as Inuyasha bit down hard on the cloak, Jolie tried reaching for the arrow and it glowed in protest, and he gave a muffled. "Stop."
They both simultaneously stiffened as the earth shook somewhat and somewhat approached.
Inuyasha sniffed the air. "It's an oni."
"An ogre?!" Jolie held up her pink peasant skirt to hide behind the tree.
"Just keep yourself hidden." Inuyasha's eyes darted in Jolie's direction.
"Alright." Jolie shut her eyes as she pressed her back to the tree.
The oni approached Inuyasha and said "Hmm, I thought I sensed a fragment of the Jewel of Four Souls but instead I found the half demon who failed to make off with the jewel 50 years ago."
The oni laughed.
Jolie thought "Inuyasha has been sealed for 50 years?"
"Shut up!"
"Hmm, perhaps the jewel is behind the tree…" The oni reached his hand towards Jolie's hiding spot.
"Run!" yelled Inuyasha.
Jolie's red eyes glowed as she bit down on the oni's large finger to suck some of his blood. He winced in pain and flung her against the tree before he held up his finger to inspect the damage then roared. Before he tried to grab Jolie, she quickly ran to Inuyasha and started pulling off the black cord from her neck which held a fragment of the Jewel of Four Souls and hung the cord onto his arrow.
"The jewel?! Why the hell is it shattered?!"
"I don't know! I just found it like this!"
The oni squeezed Jolie's waist intending to crush her. With painful effort, she turned, her red eyes glowed, and her fangs sank into the section between the oni's thumb and index finger to suck more of his blood.
"Agh!" The oni withdrew his hand in pain.
Inuyasha gave a muffled. "Free me now!"
Jolie tugged the arrow even as it glowed in protest and exclaimed "Jewel of Four Souls, I wish for the half demon, Inuyasha, to be freed!"
