Chapter 6: Trial on Oa
Oa. The planet that lays in the center of the universe. Where the Guardians of the Universe were born and have formed the Green Lantern Corps. The oldest place that has ever existed for eons. The guardians have blue skin and white hair and closely resemble humans. They act as the leaders of the Green Lanterns, but as judges to anyone who threatens the universe and commits any crime, even when they are not involved.
Among many of the lanterns was Hal Jordan, his friend John Stewart and hundreds, thousands of others. One former member was Sinestro, who has betrayed them and became a Yellow Lantern. Of course, he has allied with Superman and after his downfall, Sinestro was killed by an infected Green Lantern named Soranik.
With Oa at peace once more after Brainiac's defeat and Superman's imprisonment in the Phantom Zone, the Green Lantern Corps have resumed their role as protectors of the galaxy. But things have not always been at peace. Today, the Green Lantern Corp have been called back to their home Oa to witness the trial of Wonder Woman and Black Adam. And of course, Hal Jordan was asked to be called back due to him being an associate with them at the time.
Hal Jordan lands on Oa.
He is becoming more comfortable on the home turf since he rejoined and redeemed himself. Many members of the Corp were pleased to welcome him back. But there were others that refused to trust him again during his time as a Yellow Lantern with Sinestro.
He makes his way to the main city of Oa. Most of the cities are colored green and everywhere, the Green Lantern members are training, interacting with each other and enjoying the view. Hal enjoyed being in space and being off world. Ever since Superman's reign, Oa has been refortified as part fortress and many defensive systems. More members have been recruited from different worlds in preparation in case someone like him would be a threat. All of them fly to one of the biggest buildings on Oa. The building itself appears to be a circular building from a sci-fi movie except twice as big. There are nearly over thousands of them. And above them are seven guardians. They are twice the size of the Empire State Building. Once all of them have been seated, the seven guardians appear right in front of them all.
"Members of the Green Lantern Corp. We appreciate you coming to us on this day. For millennia, we have entrusted each and everyone of you with the Green Lantern power. A power which all of you have used wisely." The guardians spoke in unison. "For years we have struggled to remain alive throughout the reign of our enemies on Earth and beyond. With the threats from the Yellow Lantern at an end, and the Red Lanterns at bay, we must remain strong. Today, we stand before you discuss the fate of two criminals wanted throughout the galaxy. Who were formerly allies with one of our own of the Green Lantern Corp."
Hal Jordan silently winces. He knows who the guardians are referring to. And it makes him half uncomfortable with what they have to say.
"Today we bring before you one of the most dangerous beings in the universe. Allied with Kal-El. Known as Superman on Earth." The Guardians said. Two people are brought into the middle of the court by several members of the Green Lantern, both shackled hands and feet and collared so they would not use their powers.
"Diana Prince, known as Wonder Woman. Exiled from Thamscyria. And Black Adam. The being with the ability to control lightning at his own will." The Guardians announced.
Diana Prince and Black Adam look up at the Guardians, seeing them as their enemies. Diana does not have her sword, shield, gauntlets or lasso of truth on her.
"You stand before us all to answer for your many crimes on Earth and your threats throughout the galaxy, Oa included. You planned to commit liberation throughout the galaxy with Brainac's technology should the lives that thrive in this universe not commit to Kal-El's rule. Do you deny it?" The Guardians asked.
"We deny such claims." Adam spoke up. "No one was there to witness what happened. Therefore, nobody knows the truth other than Brainiac."
"The witness upon us has told us otherwise. Will that witness come forward and face the accused?" The Guardians asked.
Hal Jordan sighed with reluctance and flew forward before everyone and stood in the middle of the court. He gathers up the courage to face his former friend turned enemy. Diana is not too happy to see him.
"I might as well say it. This is awkward seeing you again." Hal shrugged.
"You should've stayed on Oa after you got your ring back, Hal. Just like what a lot of people have told you presumably." Diana glared at him.
"I figured you would say that. I'm here to try to fix what was broken. Doing what is right." Hal said to her.
"The only thing that broke was your willpower the moment you gave into the Sinestro Corp. Be lucky that the Guardians let you live." Diana told him.
"Silence!" The Guardians shouted, gaining their attention. "Hal Jordan. As a redeemed member of the Green Lantern Corp, you will provide sufficient evidence that you have gathered from your time on Earth during Brainiac's invasion of Earth. Do you agree to these term?"
"I agree." Hal nodded. "Now where to start? Brainiac planned to invade Earth and extract the entire planet for his personal collection. Krypton being among them. Me and the Justice League had to put our differences aside with the fallen Regime and face the bigger threat."
"Diana Prince. Black Adam. Do you confirm these claims?" The Guardians asked.
"It is true." Diana confirmed.
"During the crisis, we faced complications, including Kal-El's presumed death until we realized he was alive and well. Our original plan failed. So Black Adam and Aquaman had an idea to bring Brainiac's ship down." Hal Jordan said.
"To back up his story, we decided to use the Rock of Eternity in Kahndq with Arthur using his Trident of Atlantis. Focus the rock's power and channel it to weaken Brainiac's shields, so we along with our temporary allies would storm Brainiac's ship." Black Adam backs up Hal.
"After Brainiac's defeat, Kal-El merged with the ship to stop it from crashing into the Earth and restore the cities. Unfortunately, he couldn't save all of them. Hal's wife and child were lost in the process." Diana said.
"Yes. That is what Hal Jordan told us. Brainiac has been and stripped of all of his technology for life; now trapped within a prison of his own making. Now, explain the aftermath of his defeat." The Guardians demanded.
"Me and my friends Batman, Flash and Supergirl wanted Brainiac alive to save the rest of the cities. Superman on the other hand wanted to kill him and take the ship for himself and restore the cities himself and retake the Earth under his heel. Diana and Adam agreed with him. And they planned on extending their attacks on any other planet in case they attempted to rebel against Superman. Including Oa. Which is why I have brought Diana and Adam before you, because besides Kal-El, I believed them to be the biggest threat." Hal explained.
"Diana and Adam. Do you confirm these claims? Or do you deny it?" The Guardians asked.
"We confirm most of these words except for that last bit." Diana stood up. "Kal-El wanted to bring peace to the entire galaxy so no one else would suffer the fate of Brainiac's victims across the universe. We brought peace to Earth until Batman turned traitor on us." Wonder Woman lied.
"She is lying, High Council. I have evidence right here. Recorded by Batman himself. He knew that they would double cross us." Hal Jordan said.
"State your evidence." The Guardians spoke.
"He is the one lying, your honor." Diana spoke out.
"Unfortunately for you, Diana, I don't need a magic rope to show that I'm telling the truth." Hal answered.
Hal Jordan holds out a mini tablet shaped like a bat. Obviously, it was made by Bruce. He was always one with contingency plans. He hits a button and a holo-screen expands like a movie theater screen so that everyone can see and hear. This recording shows Diana and Adam being arrested by Hal himself in the Batcave while Batman and Supergirl look on while Flash and Catwoman had an unconscious Superman in cuffs with a shard of green kryptonite.
"This has gone too far, Bruce. Arresting us and letting us be taken to Oa? What about Kal?" Diana asked.
"He'll be stripped of his powers and taken to the Phantom Zone. But I'm not letting you two join him. You're too clever for that. Once we find Damian and Cyborg, we'll make sure they'll go back to the prison where they belong." Batman explained. He grabs something from Diana. It appears to be the gold kryptonite dagger Diana confiscated earlier.
"I'm sorry, Diana. I would still see you as a friend. But given how much of a threat you and Adam are, you left me with no choice." Batman finished. Diana turned to face her former protege Kara.
"You're making a big mistake joining Bruce. He is no good. Kara, don't let him do this. Think about Krypton. Think about your cousin. Your family. What would they say?" Diana asked.
"They would have agreed with me. And the only mistake I've made was listening to all of your lies and lessons. You're a complete hypocrite, Diana. So much for honor. I hope you get a good punishment and tone for your sins. I thought you were like a sister." Kara said with some slight
anger and hurt in her eyes.
"You're going to regret this. All of you. You should've gone with Kal's plan. No one should suffer the same fate of those that Brainiac killed." Wonder Woman said to Bruce.
"You're right. They don't. But If Clark actually defeated me, you would have brought fear and war beyond Earth." Bruce claimed.
"Any place that didn't follow our rule, our Regime, would have fallen by our hands. Let alone Tamaran, Thangar, Oa. If they did not heed to our commands, then they will bow to us by force, by any means necessary should they try to rebel. Don't think this is the last time you'll see us. We'll be back. Even if we had to shed more blood from anyone that holds us captive." Wonder Woman swears to it. The last of the recording shows Diana and Adam trapped in a small green sphere as Hal Jordan takes off with them, taken away to Oa before the screen shuts off.
The Green Lantern members all look at each other and murmur words to each other. Their faces show disgust and shock at the great length that someone like her or Adam would go through to make them under Superman's rule. Even the Guardians show some emotion towards someone that would threaten Oa, even for an outsider.
After a few minutes of silence, the Guardians all close their eyes to commune with their telepathy powers. Diana and Adam look at each other with confusion and turn to Hal.
"They're deciding your fate." Hal said to them before they could even ask. They look back to the Guardians who are still debating. After a couple more minutes of suspension, the Guardians all opened their eyes. They are ready to give the final word.
"Diana Prince. Black Adam. We have reached a verdict. You two have been found…. Guilty!" The Guardians announced. "For your numerous crimes towards the galaxy, Oa included, your sentence shall be….. Life imprisonment."
Diana and Adam look up in shock at their fate. They were surprised that they were not being executed for their crimes. The Green Lantern Corp cheer at their sentence as the force arrests them to be taken away.
"As of this day, you will be banished to a planet where you will spend the rest of your lives in prison with no chance of freedom. And any further attempt to escape and commit crimes will lead to a punishment worse than your current sentence." The Guardians finished.
As the two traitors are being taken away, Diana turns to face Hal once more. "Like I said before, this isn't the last time we will see each other. I know Bruce will be waiting for us. And we'll be ready to fight by any means."
"Keep telling yourself that." Hal Jordan replied. Diana and Adam are both sent off to a prison ship. Coordinates are set for the planet Takron-Galtos. Diana and Adam are put aboard as it takes off at a high speed. Hal sighs as he watches. He isn't pleased by the fate Diana has to face, but it was better than death. With the trial wrapped up, Hal flies off to head back to Earth.
Aboard the prison ship, Diana and Adam are both shoved into different cells across each other. They close with energy shields and both of their wrists shackled behind their backs. The guards leave to pilot the ship, leaving the two to talk.
"This was not how I would imagine how our fate would go. I was expecting us to be executed. But it is a grave mistake to leave us like this." Black Adam said.
"Exactly. Hal must have convinced them to spare us if we were found guilty. That will be the last mistake he will ever make. But we won't be here long. Count on it, Adam." Diana replied. Adam blinks before he realizes that Diana is up to something. She smirks.
As the ship was making its destination, the entire vessel had a violent shake. The guards all run from their positions to the source of the attack.
"Warning. A ship of unknown origin has attached itself to the vessel. Scans indicate that only two individuals are onboard. Capture them alive. All weapons set to stun. Only use lethal force if necessary. This is not a drill. Repeat. This is not a drill." The Captain instructed.
All the guards have their alien guns set to stun, ready to face whoever was coming. They lock and load, ready to face the intruders. Suddenly, the lights flicker before they black out. They couldn't see a thing. Back back up red lights came on as emergency power has activated. The door to the attached ship opens. The only thing they saw was a small red eye glowing before a beam fires right from the door and leaves a hole in a guard's chest. Before they could react, they are suddenly ambushed by another person wielding a sword, decapitating and cutting many guards before the assassin spins in place, slicing many guards in half after they circle him. Once the last of them were gone, the mysterious attacker is, of course, Damian Wayne. He puts his sword away as he comms Cyborg.
"Alright. That's all of them for now. But there are no doubt more of them. We need to get in and out fast. The ship is bigger than I thought." Damian said.
"I hacked into the ship's mapframe and cut off their power. Emergency power is on, so you'll need to move quickly. Diana and Adam are in the last cells on the back of the ship. But don't fight through them, otherwise, we'll both be captured. I'll be tracking you as you go." Cyborg said.
Damian nods before he begins moving stealthily, hiding from more several guards as they run to find and capture him. He sneaks from corner to corner, making sure nobody is watching. He sees a split path, a fork in the road. And a guard with his back turned. Damian takes the opportunity to sneak up behind him and slit his throat open, despite the silver armor and helmet he is wearing.
He pulls the guard back to hide the body before going right as per Cyborg's instructions.
After making through another two hallways, going left and right, he sees four guards, two of them each guarding Black Adam and Wonder Woman. They hold up their weapons in case they were to make any movements. But smoke bombs land at their feet and blow up at their faces.
This allowed Damian and jump in and kill each of them one by one. Once the smoke cleared, he was the last one standing. Damian smirked as he sees Diana and Adam alive and well.
"Took you long enough, Nightwing. Cutting it close while we were shackled." Black Adam said. As soon as that happens, their shackles and collars are open and they are now free.
"Better late than never. Guess the League of Assassins trained you better than previously expected." Diana praised.
"Yeah. I wasn't trained to kill. But stealth is a big key as well." Damian said as he reached in a bag. "Here. You'll need these."
Damian handed Diana her sword, shield, gauntlets and lasso and she equipped them. With the three of them, more guards come their way, ready to fire. Adam's hands light up with electricity before he fires at several of the guards, electrocuting and stunning them before Diana comes in and swings her sword and cuts them down one by one. She then throws her shield as it bounces off the walls and collides with more guards, hitting all of them in the head.
The three make their way back to the stolen Brainiac ship. Once all three are aboard, Diana, for some reason, isn't surprised to see Cyborg with Damian.
"I knew you'd be here, Victor." Diana said.
"Yeah. Too early to celebrate too soon. Time to get the hell outta here." Cyborg said. He shuts the door and he pilots the ship as it flies away from the prison vessel. The ship was beginning to turn around to chase after them, but the engines short-circuit before exploding. The vessel is left stranded in space as the fugitives make their getaway.
"And engines are down for good. We won't be seeing them again. Just as we planned it." Cyborg smirked.
"Now that you two are back, we can discuss the next phase of our plan. Just like you instructed us to do." Damian said.
"The artifact. Did you get it?" Diana asked. Damian pulls out what appears to be a platinium-like meteorite.
"Right here. Wasn't easy getting it though. I had to wait until all the Green Lanterns were called to your trial. I didn't need to knock out any guards. But what we wanna know is what the hell is it?" Damian asked.
Black Adam steps closer and takes a closer look at what it is. He figured it out.
"It's platinum kryptonite. I have never seen one before. Where did the Lanterns get it?" Adam asked.
"Hal. Bruce lended it to him, knowing it was too dangerous to be kept on Earth. So he put it on Oa under guard so no one could get it. Except me." Damian said.
"So this was Kal-El's own plan in case Batman captured him." Adam realized.
"Yes." Diana confirms. "Kal-El relayed this breakout plan to me, Damian and Victor. Bruce is not the only one with contingencies.
"We've seen green, yellow and red. But what does the platinum one do?" Cyborg asked.
"It's a rare kryptonite. Kal-El told me about it. Same with Kara. It can restore his powers for good. But we must hurry before Bruce catches on. It won't take long." Diana ordered. Cyborg steps on it and sets the ship for Earth.
Somewhere in Outer Space, Hal Jordan is on his way back to Earth. That was until he gets a call from one of the guardians.
"Hal Jordan. Apologies for disrupting your journey back to Earth. But I have urgent news for you." The guardian reported.
"What is it? What happened?" Hal asked.
"The prison ship holding Diana Prince and the Black Adam has been attacked. They have escaped. And what is worse is we have discovered that one of the artifacts has been stolen. The special rare kryptonite."
"Ah shit." Hal realized. "I'm heading back to Earth right now. Tell the other Lanterns to stand guard in case he goes to Oa." Hal ordered before signing off. He begins to fly faster to Earth, hoping it's not too late to warn Batman about the trouble he was just told.
Note: I'm terribly sorry for being late. The website wouldn't accept the format for some reason since I've been using Google Docs. But I'm back again. And I'm sorry if the trial was terrible or anything. I got this idea from an IJ2 intro where Diana was mentioned to be on Oa awaiting trial. Now as for the Platinum Kryptonite, this is Superman's back up plan in case he were to be recaptured and conspired with Damian in the Fortress of Solitude, who relayed this to Cyborg. Until next chapter.
