Picking up where the story left off after Half-Life: Opposing Force, Corporal Adrian Shepherd, the unsung hero of the Black Mesa crisis, is saved from death by the mysterious G-Man. Accepting the man's offer for employment, he's sent to a world not unlike his own. A teen once more, he has to beat back a primordial evil that seeks to engulf the world in darkness.

It's been seven years since the forces of the Combine invaded and occupied Remnant, and seven years humanity have lived under slavery. In City 28, built over the former City of Vale, lives Ruby Rose, suffering a painful life under brutal oppression. However, an unplanned rendezvous with old friends might just water the seeds of rebellion.

Dr. Cobalt Shepard has survived, Black Mesa is now nothing but a memory, but his job isn't over yet. Hired by The G-Man, he's given a job by the God of Darkness, to help free Remnant.
