Chapter 2

Callie frowned as she saw the name on the phone, Arizona was calling which was unusual because Sofia was at school, which she would know. Worried something was wrong Callie answered.

"Hello, Arizona"

She could hear heavy breathing, panicked whimpers, then finally a quiet,

"No, no"

"Arizona are you okay?" she asked worriedly, had she been pocket dialed, if so why did she sound so terrified.

"Bleeding" Arizona said sounding vacant, like she wasn't having the same conversation, then a giggle, Callie frowned, this wasn't the Arizona she knew. She rarely giggled, not like this, and definitely not since the crash,

"Where are you bleeding?" Callie asked walking to her desk, what was going on in Seattle?

"Lies" Arizona said her voice changing she almost sounded happy, "Pain" she then said

"Arizona?" Callie asked, dialing Meredith's number, she needed someone in Seattle to get to Arizona's fast. Whatever was going on was serious,

"Woods, its dark," Arizona continued, Callie frowned, listening to Meredith phone ring, praying Meredith answered.

"No, you're not in the woods" she tried trying to re orientate her ex-wife. She didn't know where Arizona was but knew it was unlikely she was in the woods, not when her ex-wife did everything possible to avoid them.

"Can you hear them?"

"Hear who?" Callie asked straining to listen in case there was someone else there, trying to discern where Arizona was.

"the wolves, they are coming, they've eaten Lexie, and they are coming, you have to leave me, leave Mark, they are going to eat us, the bugs, they've started,"

Callie could hear Arizona ramble, her heart going out for her, what did she mean the wolves ate Lexie, and they were coming for her, had she seen it or heard it. Either way it was terrifying, she fought the nausea in her throat as she mentally stored that information to process later. Arizona had always refused to talk about what had happened in the woods, but she knew it was bad.

"Callie" Meredith answered, Callie was about to answer Arizona but knew she had to arrange help quickly.

"It's Arizona, she is hurt, it sounds bad, she is hallucinating, you need to get there fast"

"Okay, I've just pulled up at the hospital, I'm about 7 minutes away, Maggie can drop Ellis to daycare, Amelia and I will go," Meredith replied, Callie nodded knowing nobody could see feeling better that someone was on the way. She hung up wanting to focus on Arizona,

"Ugly, stupid, ugly"

"No baby," Callie whispered her heart breaking, is that what Arizona thought? Could she not see how truly breath taking she was?

"No wonder she left, stupid ugly, cheating, horrible, slut, not good enough, deserves the best, not the best, not anymore, had to make her leave, had to make her happy, couldn't be happy with me, useless me, can't even skate, can't hold daughter, stupid, ugly, me, stupid ugly leg"

"No, Arizona hun, where are you bleeding? Talk to me" Callie begged, hoping this was the hallucinations talking and not how Arizona felt about herself, but sensing this was the most honest her ex wife had been in a long time. Logging on to her laptop checking the next flights to Seattle, she needed to see her, they needed to talk.

"Messed up again" Arizona sounded sad, it broke Callie's heart at just how empty Arizona sounded, she was about to reply, distracted by typing on the computer when there was a whimper.

"No, I came back, I'm came back, she forgave me, I said sorry" Arizona was crying now,

"You came back I forgave you, it's okay" Callie tried, wondering what Arizona was seeing, what she was sorry for.

"No, didn't mean to kill them. Didn't mean to was an accident, it was an accident, I saved Sofia, I tried" Arizona was sobbing now, her voice getting more broken, more empty. Callie guessed Arizona was talking about the car crash, that was the only time she had saved Sofia,

"It wasn't your fault, Ari, baby, it wasn't your fault" Callie was crying now, the pain in Arizona's voice.

"I'm not nothing, not nothing, Mark." Arizona shouted before breaking into tears again, Callie frowned, what memory was this from? When had Arizona been made to feel like nothing? The plane crash? Before? Why had she mentioned Mark, they'd gotten on, they'd become friends,

"You're everything" she tried to reassure, "Arizona you are everything, I love you, Sofia loves you."

"I wanted you, I wanted you baby, I tried, I'm sorry, there was no heart beat" Arizona sounded so broken so empty, the miscarriage, Callie remembered Arizona muttering those words in the scrub room, with Travis crashing, she had to leave, she had leave her wife to save her patient, she told herself Arizona would understand, but did she?

Callie hadn't thought about the miscarriage, putting it to the back of her mind, never really dealt with the feelings that went with it. Clearly Arizona hadn't done the same.

Taking a breath, she heard a bang,

Listening in closely,

"Arizona" Meredith shouted, then another bang, closer, it sounded almost like Arizona had fallen,

"Arizona?" Meredith shouted again,

"Is she okay, Meredith? Is she okay?" Callie asked,

"Call 9-11" Meredith screamed, "Amelia, towels"

"Meredith" Callie repeated hating how hopeless she felt,

"Cal, she's hit her head, lost a lot of blood, I'll call you back" Meredith replied without giving Callie any say the phone was hung up.

Callie sat for a moment processing what had happened, before clicking book. She had a daughter to collect and a flight to make, they were going home.

So Callie is on her way home, Arizona is on her way to hospital, how will the aftermath be?
