"I don't understand how you can let those leeches back in your life! They left you like you're trash. They're soulless, and you're an idiot if you just let them walk back in and all over you like it never happened."
Bella was tired. Whatever sleep she had gotten last night wasn't anywhere near enough. She could feel the weight of the last few days hanging over her head. She sat down on the worn-out chair in the kitchen and looked up at the furious boy before her. Charlie came stomping in from the living room. "Jacob Black, that's-"
"Dad, I've got it." Charlie stopped with his hands on his hips at the threshold between the kitchen and living room. "Jake, you are the person who showed me I don't deserve to be treated this way; I don't deserve to be talked to this way. So, you can go. Call me when you're ready to treat me like a person again. On the house phone. I'm grounded." He stayed there, hands clenched and arms shaking, before he spun abruptly on his heel and smashed through the front door. The frame splintered as the door swung off one of its hinges.
"What the hell?" Charlie followed Jacob out, calling his name. Bella heard the roar of the dirt bike and the spray of gravel as he left. "Um, hello," her dad sounded awkward.
"Hello, Chief Swan. Would you like me to help fix the door?"
"That's okay, Rosalie. Bella's inside." Rosalie came into view, and Bella heard her father add, "And stay downstairs!" As an afterthought.
"Hello, my love." Rosalie smiled at Bella, mirth dancing in her eyes. "Do I need to go teach that boy some manners?"
She snorted at the pet name, the broken door, and the entire situation. "Thanks, but no." She shook her head, trying to avoid the exhaustion. "I'll keep that in mind though. I see that Dad decided you're one of my approved visitors during my prison stay?"
"That can change, so don't push me!" Charlie called from the front porch.
"Let's go to the living room, where we can talk in private!" Bella answered loudly.
"That better be all you're doing in private!"
"Dad, oh my god!" Bella could feel the color rising in her cheeks. It was nice to know this vampire didn't think Bella was her own personal brand of heroin, at least. She walked into the living room, hiding her face as she led the way. Not only was Charlie embarrassing, but the living room was too.
The house Charlie bought with Renee two decades ago was modest, even for Forks. The small living room could use a new coat of paint. There was an old couch against one wall, with a used recliner on the wall next to it. Charlie had left the footrest up, and the old woven blanket Billy had given him was hanging halfway onto the floor. She was pretty sure he spent as many nights in the recliner as he did in his own bed. She self-consciously took a seat on the couch, watching Rosalie closely.
Rosalie sat in the middle of the couch, not too close to Bella but not too far away. She handed the TV remote to the blonde, giving her the option to play something or not. After last night, Bella thought she understood the danger they were in. Rosalie turned the TV on. The sound of a commentator of some sport Bella didn't care about immediately filled the space.
Rosalie gestured to Bella, indicating she should turn and face her. Slowly, she did as she was told. The exhaustion was heavy on her, so she pulled her knees up. Rosalie slowly reached out to her, then paused, waiting. She nodded, waiting to see what the vampire would do. Suddenly, Rosalie caught her by the calves, pulling her closer and dragging her legs across her lap. Bella found herself lying down, her legs across Rosalie. "Is this okay?" Bella nodded and yawned. Yes, Jacob was mad. Sure, her life was in danger. But how could she consider this if she was exhausted? Rosalie was being fake nice, and Bella knew sleep was coming. That seemed to be all she did around Rosalie. She reached towards the back of the couch, and before she could grasp the blanket, it disappeared and was laid across her.
"Rosalie?" The vampire hummed. "Move slower, please."
"That's not usually what the girls say, but okay."
She had been falling asleep. The blanket was just enough. But her eyes popped open for just a moment. Rosalie had made a joke. A joke that wasn't at her expense. Anyone's expense. "The...what?"
"Shh. Your dad's coming." She rolled her eyes but decided to go to sleep. If she was pretending for the next few seconds, who would care?
Bella heard her dad's boots clunking through the kitchen. He muttered to himself and didn't seem to consider where she and Rosalie were. She felt the reassuring cool pressure of Rosalie's arms over her legs, and with the soothing sound of the tv in the background, she started to drift off. The last thing she heard was Charlie on the phone, saying, "Billy, what is going on with Jake?"
Rosalie wasn't spying on the phone call, really. She was above pathetically listening to the mundane conversations of humans, and couldn't help it that the Swan house phone was right on the other side of the wall. She had nothing to do with how loud Charlie and Billy Black were talking. But now that Bella was asleep and she was playing the dutiful mate, Rosalie was stuck.
"Don't you lie to me, William."
Rosalie could hear the entire conversation. She didn't even feel weird about it. 'Don't full-name me, Charles. He's having a hard time, and Bella isn't making it easier. She strung him along, and now she's choosing untrustworthy…people instead of him.' Rosalie heard the way Billy sarcastically said, 'People.' God, she hated that. She might not be human, but she was a person. She at least considered those around her as important enough not to drain them dry.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know maintaining friendships was 'stringing someone along.' He broke my front door. Is he on something?"
'Charles.'
"I don't want to see him around here until he's ready to apologize to Bella and pay for the door." Charlie slammed the phone down. He breathed heavily, an angry rush as he centered himself. Rosalie heard him fussing with the broken door, probably trying to put the splintered wood back in place. After a few minutes, he gave up. She listened to Bella's even breathing and stared at the TV screen, pretending to be interested in it. Bella's legs were fully relaxed across Rosalie's, and she was sure the girl was asleep.
Charlie's boots marched loudly around the kitchen. The fridge opened and closed, and she heard a bottle opener and the hiss of a beer bottle. The bottle cap clattered to the counter, and Charlie's heavy boots came closer. He entered the living room and paused, looking at Bella and Rosalie. Rosalie lifted both her hands, and he snorted before walking in to take his seat in the recliner. He collapsed onto it, kicking his boots off below it. It was so…human.
They sat there quietly, both of them watching the tv. Rosalie could feel the gears in Charlie's mind turning. She waited for him to break the silence. He inhaled, and she knew it was coming. "So tell me, what was so important it required my daughter to disappear for days with no warning, with your family, again?" She looked at the man, who was watching her with a police chief's eye. Rosalie wondered for a moment how much truly got by this man, supernatural aside. "I ask, because here's how I see it. When your family is around, my daughter lies to me. She runs away once, saying she can't be trapped in this town, and comes back to me, barely alive and suddenly determined to stay. Months later, your brother dumps her in the woods and she goes into a deep depression. I thought I was going to lose her."
"Sir-" Charlie held up a hand, and Rosalie knew that, not only was he not done, he had been saving this speech. Probably for Edward.
"She was gone, Rosalie. Gone. She may have been alive, she may have been present, but she was gone. She starts recovering. She starts smiling again. She starts riding dirt bikes, which I had to pretend I didn't know about. But she was happy. Then, she's gone again. No one knows where, how, or why. Just gone. So, I'm asking for honesty. Why? And how did this happen?" He gestured at Bella sleeping peacefully.
Rosalie aimed for as much honesty as she could. "We all hated what Edward did to Bella. It was stupid, selfish, and cruel. Carlisle had an offer for a job, and Edward was too stupid and weak to try long distance. He thought a 'clean break' would be good. He's an idiot, as I'm sure you noticed." Bella shifted slightly, and Rosalie waited, hoping she would stay asleep. "He's young, dumb, and has too much money available to him. He decided to fly into Italy and get himself into trouble. To be honest with you, chief, I'm not sure exactly what it entailed. Alice and I had come to visit Bella. We wanted to see her. I had some complicated feelings for quite some time, and I wanted to talk to her. Alice wanted to see Bella. I needed to see her." She sighed. "While we were here, we got a call from some idiots that I think Edward bet money against. He lost. If we hadn't gotten there quickly, I think he would have been made to disappear. He wouldn't tell us where he was, and said he deserved it for hurting Bella."
Charlie grunted.
"I think he wanted to say goodbye. Bella talked to him, told him she was coming, and talked him down when we got there. She told him to get over himself, and move on. Something about being a pathetic martyr who had to get over the mistakes he made and atone for the pain he caused. She made him leave." Rosalie smiled, a real smile. "She also told him to basically shove the guilt up his butt, and that she'd never get back with him, but she might forgive him one day. And in those days, we talked. We reconnected. She's so brave. She's so loyal. And she's not someone I want to be separated from again. So here we are. Working it out. I'm making it up to her. I'm making it up to you." Rosalie hoped she looked appropriately sorry. "I never wanted her to be part of this. I would also punch my brother in the face before I let him near her for any reason again."
Charlie leaned back in his chair again. He took another sip of his beer. "She was in Italy." He nodded, clearly in disbelief. "She would have lied if I'd asked her about it, wouldn't she?"
"Yes, sir. I imagine she would have."
"I assumed. She's still grounded." He turned the channel. "But, it's okay for you to keep visiting."
"Thank you, Chief."
"Charlie."
"Thank you, Charlie."
They sat in comfortable silence. He watched reruns of top NFL plays, and she pretended to watch. Bella gently adjusted. Rosalie kind of liked the calm of it all, and she tried not to think about who could be watching them through the windows.
A few hours later, after Bella finally woke up, there was a knock on the door. Rosalie listened very carefully as the person shifted uneasily on the porch. They muttered quietly. "Please be here." She recognized that voice. It was Angela Weber. Her heart was racing. She smelled like stress.
"You're gonna want to answer the door." She didn't say more, so Bella simply got up.
Rosalie heard Bella struggle with the door. She tried not to laugh as she came around to help. The broken hinge was jamming the door closed. "Just a second!" Bella called.
Rosalie looked back to the living room to make sure Charlie hadn't moved. She reached for the door and wrenched it open, pulling it free of the other hinge just enough that Bella could finish opening it. she backed into the kitchen and out of sight, hoping to give Bella time with her friend. "Hey, Ang-" Bella managed to say before she was interrupted.
"I was so worried!" Angela barged in, throwing her arms around Bella's neck. Bella stumbled under the surprise weight. "Where have you been?"
"Italy."
"What? Where is your phone? I've called and texted! Why were you in Italy?"
Bella rubbed the back of her neck. "I'm grounded, so no phone. Suddenly taking a flight to Italy is not good for my freedom, apparently. And uh..." Bella's eyes darted to Rosalie before she said, "The Cullens needed me."
"The Cullens? He's not in here right now, is he? Does he know what you-" Angela stomped into the kitchen. Rosalie had never seen the quiet, calm girl display any emotion close to rage, but for a moment her face was contorted in anger. She had one hand in a fist, and the other seemed to be trying to put Bella behind her, as if to protect her. As she made it around the wall her eyes landed on Rosalie. Her face changed from enraged to surprised to confused in record time. "Rosalie? Hello?"
"Hi, Angela. It's good to see you again."
"You, too." She looked between the two girls. "I'm confused."
"It is confusing," Rosalie checked her phone, looking at the time. "I should probably head home. I've taken up a lot of your visiting hours. I'll see you tomorrow?" She made to move past the two girls, then turned back. She leaned in, kissed Bella's cheek, and walked out without looking back.
"Okay..." Angela began. Rosalie shut her car door and took off, leaving Bella behind to clean up her mess.
Bella held her keys in her hand and prepared herself. Being grounded was really getting in her way. She hadn't been able to talk to anyone other than Angela since leaving for Italy, and now, five days later, her entire life was different. She wished she had asked Rosalie yesterday what the plan was for today. She also wished Charlie hadn't locked her phone in his bedroom gun safe. She knew the code to the document safe under his bed (because the code was her birthday) but Charlie took gun safety and cell phone punishments extremely seriously. She had so many wishes that could not matter any less in the moment. She bounced her head off the slightly lopsided front door one time as she prepared herself.
A roaring engine pulled up behind her. She whipped around just in time to see the black sports car stop, its roaring engine idling at top volume. Rosalie stepped out of the car and looked at Bella over the roof.
"Hello, my love. I thought you might not mind if I picked you up for school?" Rosalie looked side to side, then appeared right next to Bella. "I hope you don't mind if I drive you today? Every day, if that's okay?" She offered her arm to Bella, and Bella hooked her hand through Rosalie's offered elbow. "I could not imagine something happening to you when I'm not around to protect you."
They started the short walk to the car, and Bella was forcefully reminded of the way Edward had acted, treating her like she was made of glass and offering her no choices whatsoever. She tried to keep her face neutral, but Rosalie must have sensed some of her thoughts. "You could drive instead, if you want. My car, your car. I just want to make sure you're safe."
Bella felt her insides freeze. She was struck by deja vu and a deep regret of her past. Had Edward ever offered to let her drive? Rather than dwell, she just accepted. "I would love a ride, thank you. That can also give us some privacy before school."
Rosalie held the door open for Bella and quickly made her way to the driver's side. They sat in silence for a moment as the engine idled. Rosalie turned on the radio and put the car in gear. The engine revved up, and in the noise, Rosalie said, "If we whisper, we can talk freely."
Bella could barely hear the vampire, and knew that was precisely the point. That must be why Rosalie had driven this loud muscle car instead of her cherry red BMW. "What is all this for?"
"Appearances."
Bella nodded. "I think this will all go better if we just dive in headfirst and get it all over with at school. You know, like you did with my dad. What do you think?" She watched Rosalie, seeing a muscle in her jaw twitch.
"I don't care about the opinions of infants." Bella didn't respond, so Rosalie finally looked over. She kept her eyes on Bella as she parked the car in the student lot, expertly centering the vehicle between the lines without even looking. She sighed. "You're not an infant. I want you to make whatever decisions are right for you when you can." Bella heard the guilt in Rosalie's voice. "Including now. So if you want to dive in, we'll dive in."
Rosalie turned the car off, then walked around it at a human pace. She cracked the door just enough to look in and say, "I'll follow your lead?" Bella just nodded at the vampire. Rosalie opened the door the rest of the way and offered her cool hand. Bella took it and stepped out. Rosalie closed the door behind her and then took Bella's backpack for her.
People were already watching them. If the loud, expensive car had been like the Bat Signal over Gotham, then the two of them leaving it holding hands was like the Joker blowing up a hospital. "Rosalie, everyone is looking at us."
Rosalie turned and put herself in front of Bella. She felt mostly shielded from everything, the car at her back and Rosalie at her front, mostly blocking her view. "They're going to stare. What do you want to do?"
Looking up into Rosalie's golden eyes, Bella had an idea. "I think we have to do something drastic. Let's just get the big things out of the way."
Rosalie nodded. "Okay."
"Anything you're opposed to?"
Rosalie nodded. "Racism. Sexism. Sexual assault."
"Would kissing you in public fall under any of those?"
"No, that seems fine."
"You're sure?" Rosalie nodded. Bella felt an imposing anxiety. She needed to do this. It would help start the gossip chain, which would make sure the news would fizzle out faster, she was sure. Oh god, there was Jess, looking at them from across the parking lot. She could see the girl watching them. It was now or never, but she couldn't move. "Rosalie...could you please kiss me?"
Rosalie laughed at her. Laughed! She leaned in anyway and moved Bella's hair out of the way. "Are you sure?" Rosalie was so close. She smelled good, like sunshine, freedom, and strawberries. The sound of her voice, with just a slight hint of the laugh from before, was soothing. Rather than answer, Bella fisted the front of Rosalie's leather jacket and tugged her closer. She felt the tiniest bit of resistance, just enough to worry Bella, but Rosalie was strong. She would stop Bella if she wanted to. She didn't. Rosalie moved closer to Bella, like a predator approaching their prey: slowly and carefully.
A small part of her, the slightly afraid, human, eighteen-year-old part of Bella, caused her to lean back just a bit. The less frightened, slightly excited part of her pulled Rosalie with her as she backed into the car. One of Rosalie's hands held onto the strap of Bella's backpack, which she was still holding. Her other hand landed on the roof of the car, bracketing Bella in place. Rosalie's mouth hovered over hers. She hesitated, looking down at Bella, golden eyes darting down to her lips and back up to her eyes. "You can change your mind right now, if you want. This right here could be enough to let everyone know." She felt dazed by their proximity. Rosalie kept talking. "Or, everyone will think you needed a ride and I'm just weird if you want to push me away right now. It's up to you."
Rosalie couldn't read minds. She wouldn't know what people were thinking or what they would think. Bella had also just realized she wanted this. She wanted to kiss Rosalie, to at least know what it's like. She tugged the woman closer and stood on her tippy toes to close the distance between their lips. Rosalie had the softest lips she had ever felt. Suddenly, in that moment, Bella was desperately aware of how human and alive she was. Her heart was pounding, the cool air was refreshing, and the feel of Rosalie's lips was intoxicating. She had never expected to be in the Forks High parking lot kissing a different vampire, and even if she had, it wouldn't have been this vampire.
Rosalie's skin felt...less than freezing. She wasn't warm, exactly, and Bella tried to figure out why she felt warmer than expected, but then the vampire's hand slid down the car to land on Bella's hip and she stopped thinking about vampire skin temperature. Her right hand was pinned between their bodies, holding onto Rosalie's brown leather jacket, so she lifted her left hand up to touch the smooth skin on the side of Rosalie's neck. She gripped the soft skin there, feeling Rosalie's jaw working as she opened her mouth just enough to let her tongue dart out and touch Bella's lower lip. Bella gasped. Edward had kept his tongue entirely to himself. His sister had no such concerns.
Rosalie pulled back slightly, pressing her forehead to Bella's. Bella could feel Rosalie's lips ghosting across hers as she spoke. "People are watching. And talking." Rosalie's hand on her hip tightened just a bit. Bella licked her lips. They were still so close that her tongue touched Rosalie's lips as well. Rosalie leaned in again, meeting Bella for a quick peck. "I hope you're ready to deal with Jessica. I can hear her grinding down her enamel from here."
Bella raised her eyebrows. "Then, let's give her something to talk about." She took a chance and pulled Rosalie in again. She heard the gentle 'whumpf' of something hitting the ground next to her, and suddenly Rosalie's other hand was on Bella's lower back, pressing them tighter together. Bella considered trying her luck and seeing if the great Rosalie Cullen would stoop to making out in the school parking lot. A loud, piercing whistle cut the air around them. Emmett whooped after he whistled, and Rosalie took a step back, giving Bella room to breathe.
"I am going to kill Emmett. I hope you're okay with that." Rosalie squatted down to pick up Bella's backpack, which she had dropped to free up her hands. Bella took her bag back, put it on, and straightened out her shirt. She was afraid to look around. Her lips were tingling, and the feeling deep in her belly was concerning. Rosalie offered her hand again, and Bella took it. She was nervous about the future, anxious about the school day, but as soon as Rosalie's fingers interlocked with hers, she felt like it would be okay.
Until, that is, they split up outside the office. "We have to go reregister. I'll find you later today?" Bella nodded. Alice came twirling down the hall, pulling Jasper with her. Emmett followed, laughing at something he had said. Edward was nowhere in sight.
"Girls, please!" Alice pretended to fan herself. "That was steamy!" She and Jasper disappeared into the office. Bella covered her face. Her cheeks were turning bright red.
Rosalie kissed her cheek, slipping into the dutiful girlfriend role perfectly before she entered the office as well. Emmett clapped Bella on the back just a little too hard. She shook out her shoulder after they were gone. She hadn't even managed one shoulder rotation when Jess came flying out of nowhere, yelling, "Bella Swan, WHAT GIVES!?"
It was going to be a long day.
They were halfway through their first class when the teacher finally told Jess to stop talking. Bella had been inundated with questions. Where had she been for the last week? What happened to Rosalie and Emmett? Why were the Cullens back? Had Bella ever looked at Jess in the locker room? Was Bella a lesbian now, or just experimenting? Was Edward available? Was Rosalie as good a kisser as it looked like she was?
Bella buried her head in her hands. She had two problems. The first was, obviously, Jess. The second was Rosalie. She didn't know how it looked to kiss Rosalie, but she certainly knew how it felt. It felt good. Rosalie was a gentle kisser. She didn't seem to have any of the fear Bella had come to expect from vampires. They were strong, and fast, and dangerous, but Rosalie didn't kiss like she was afraid to hurt Bella. She wanted to kiss Rosalie again. As she was thinking about Rosalie's hand on her hip, the classroom door opened, and Rosalie walked in.
"Ms. Cullen, welcome back. How can I help you?"
"Hello, sir. I'm sorry I'm late. I was getting my schedule, and I've been assigned to this class."
"Not a problem," Mr. Berty said affably. "Take the empty seat next to Ms. Swan. She'll help catch you up on what you've missed."
Rosalie nodded and took the desk next to Bella's. Bella could hardly meet her eyes. After the thoughts she was just having about Rosalie, now she had to look the girl in the eyes.
Jess murmured from Bella's other side, "I bet she'll catch you up on something."
Rosalie leaned forward to look at Jess around Bella. "Stanley," she waited for Jess to look at her. "Shut the fuck up." The cold look in Rosalie's eyes was terrifying. Bella wanted to kiss her more. Jess's jaw dropped. She huffed angrily and turned her eyes back to the board. Bella crossed, then recrossed, her legs. Rosalie arched an eyebrow at her. Bella avoided her eyes, offering a half-hearted shrug.
Two hours later Bella felt like she had survived most of the school day. This would be fine. She had left her art class early to wander the halls. Alice had convinced her to for some reason, but she wasn't worried about it. The pass in her hand meant no hall monitor was going to bother her either. She stopped in front of the janitor's closet and looked left and right. She had four more minutes to waste until she could go into the cafeteria for lunch. She had just decided she to do one more lap around the school when the janitor's closet opened up; two hands grabbed her and pulled her into the tiny pitch-black room.
"Don't scream, it's me."
"Jesus!"
"Not Jesus, Rosalie." She chuckled at her own joke. "Glad to see that Alice could convince you to cut class. She's a bad influence."
She tried to look up at Rosalie, but the room was too dark to see much of anything. "Why are we in a closet?"
"We're going to come out of it. Together." She still couldn't quite see her, but Bella knew Rosalie was smirking, if not outright smiling. "did you know horny teenagers use this closet to get private time at school?"
"Why do you know that?"
Rosalie got close enough that Bella could make out her facial expression. She looked disgusted. "We can hear just about everything happening in this school. Everything."
"What? What have you heard?"
Your friend Jess was having a secret fling with Tyler, Ben, and Eric. She would meet them here during different classes. What she didn't know was that Tyler was also having secret meetings in here with Ben and Lauren." Bella had never seen this side of Rosalie. Was she gossiping? "I'm all for doing what and who you want. They all practice safe sex, just so you know."
"Rosalie! Ew!" Bella covered her ears just to have something to do with her hands. She was simultaneously disgusted and excited now that she knew what this room was for. "Why are we in here?"
Her eyes had finally adjusted to the darkness. Rosalie was looking at her nails as she waited for Bella to uncover her ears. "I'm thinking we make it look like we took our turn in the closet. Mess up our hair and our clothes just a little, and the picture will be complete. Everyone will know we're an item, and we can be less performative. I imagine it will take about a week for us to stop being the center of attention, especially if we front-load all the exciting stuff."
Bella was suspicious. "Did Alice tell you that?"
Rosalie made a face. "She did. She's been doing her best to look ahead and see how people react."
"Well, never bet against Alice, I guess. What do we have to do?"
"Give me your hoodie." Bella did as she was told. The closet wasn't very big. She felt her arms brush against Rosalie's front as she pulled her hoodie over her head. It was a plain hoodie, almost entirely grey except for the sleeves, which were maroon. No sooner was it over her head than Rosalie pulled it down and wore it instead. It was strange to see Rosalie wearing her hoodie. It looked better on her. "Open the bottom button or two of your shirt. You're wearing an undershirt, right?"
"I am."
"Perfect. Just to make it look like you forgot to rebutton it all the way. Can I mess up your hair?"
"Sure." Bella was carefully unbuttoning the bottom buttons of her shirt. She started to giggle. This was extremely funny. The giggle cut off as Rosalie started running her hand through Bella's hair. She was very gently shaking Bella's hair out, messing up the part as carefully as she could. Her fingers ran over Bella's scalp. Bella's knees went weak, and she almost fell. "Whoa."
"What just happened? Are you-" Rosalie reached out and wrapped her arm around Bella, then stilled. "Bella?"
"Yeah?"
"What are you feeling right now?"
"So many things." Bella shut her eyes and kept them shut.
"Yes, I can...tell." She opened her eyes and tried to look at Rosalie.
"What do you mean you can tell?"
"I'm going to kill Alice." Bella was starting to get whiplash. "We have about thirty seconds. Are you ready?" The bell rang while she was nodding. "Someone is going to come, and we have to pretend to be caught, okay? Pretend I ravished you." Pretend. Rosalie. Ravished. Her. She was going to die, and she would know that Alice had seen this coming and planned it. "Are you...feeling more feelings?"
She was still pressed front to front with Rosalie. Her skin was tingling; she was covered in goosebumps in the school sex closet. Bella was feeling things, alright. Instead of answering, she just hid her face against Rosalie's chest.
"Five seconds," Rosalie whispered. "Here we go." She caught Bella under the chin, making her look up. Rosalie didn't kiss her, but she got close enough that it looked like they had been when the door opened a second later.
"Oh god, get out!" The gruff old janitor yelled. The hallway was full of students as they both jumped out of the closet, looking embarrassed and trying to straighten themselves out. "If I see you back here, I'm reporting you! Damn kids."
Rosalie laughed, pulling Bella behind her as they made their way to the lunch room. First day back at school, half over. Bella was going to die.
