A couple days later.
Jason stopped by the Mansion to see Monica.
"What brings you by?" Monica asked, as they sat on the living room couch, "Not that I'm not happy to see you."
"I wanted to check on you," Jason said, "Kellie had mentioned Sonny approached Charles the other day."
"More like Sonny would have assaulted Charles if Yuri hadn't stopped him," Monica said, "The nerve of Sonny. I want to say I can't believe it. But I'd be lying."
"Are you okay?" Jason asked.
"I'm fine," Monica said, "I'm more upset for Charles. He didn't need Sonny getting in his face like that. He's got a enough to deal with after what Victor Cassadine did to him without Sonny trying to bully him to make Kellie talk to him. That's between Sonny and Kellie. Thinking about it. How did you know about Sonny and Charles? I don't think Charles planned to say anything to Kellie about it. I can't imagine Sonny would if he's trying to get back in Kellie's good grace."
"Someone that witnessed the altercation let something slip to Kellie," Jason said.
"How bad was it?" Monica asked, "Between Sonny and Kellie."
Jason sighed and shook his head.
"It'll be a long time before she willingly speaks to Sonny," Jason said.
"Have you spoken to Sonny?" Monica asked, "Since well whatever happened."
"No, I haven't needed to at the moment," Jason said, "I was going to talk to him about Charles, try to smooth the situation over. But Kellie asked that I leave it alone."
"And Sonny hasn't tried to convince you again to go to prison," Monica asked.
"Not yet," Jason said.
"Maybe it's just as well," Monica said, "When I heard Sonny wanted Carly to turn you in to stay out of prison, I was so angry. I still am."
"Mom, I'm not going to prison," Jason said.
"I know that now," Monica said, "But I wasn't sure at first. Your life was so tied up with Sonny and Carly for long. I wouldn't have been surprised if you had agreed. You have no idea how glad I am that you put you and your family first."
Jason looked awkwardly away.
"I know you're still in the mob," Monica said, "As much as I wish you could walk away, I'm glad to see it seems to be less chaotic on some fronts since you've been in charge. At least from what I can tell anyway."
Jason nodded and didn't say much, unsure of how to respond or take Monica's comments.
"I know I haven't always agreed with your choices," Monica said, "But I am proud of you and I think your father would be too.
"I'm not entirely sure about that," Jason said.
"I know he would be," Monica said, taking Jason's hand, "Especially of how good of a father you've been to Danny, Jake, and Kelsey. For the way you've stepped up for Kelsey's siblings since they lost their father. I'm just sad he really didn't get to know his grandkids."
"Me too," Jason replied before they sat in silence for a few minutes.
"You miss him," Jason said.
"I always will," Monica said, thinking.
Jason hugged Monica.
After a few more minutes of silence, Jason finally spoke.
"You didn't really answer my question if you were okay?" Jason said.
"You noticed that," Monica replied, "I really don't know what I am right now. It has less to do with Sonny and more to do with…."
Monica shook her head choosing not to elaborate further.
"Charles spending the night," Jason guessed, "And you're not really sure what comes next."
"You are too perceptive, sometimes, you know that," Monica said, "It's not like we planned for Charles to spend the night. We fell asleep watching old movies. I don't know why I'm explaining this to you."
"You don't have to," Jason said, "I know Charles makes you happy. So what do you want to happen next with him?"
Monica thought for a moment
"It's not practical," Monica said, "Not after everything that's happened."
"Doesn't mean you still don't want it," Jason said.
Monica sighed.
"What I want is for Charles to move back in here," Monica said, quietly, "But it's too soon to even think about that."
"Have you asked Charles how he might feel about it," Jason asked.
"No," Monica asked.
"If he wanted to move back in is there any reason he shouldn't," Jason asked.
Monica looked at Jason skeptically.
"You were living together and had just gotten engaged before he was shot and kidnapped," Jason said, "You both obviously still care about each other and obviously want more than what you're doing now."
"I don't want him to full like he's being pushed," Monica said, "He's still worried about what Victor might have done to him."
"Once Charles isn't worried about that?" Jason asked.
"I guess I'm concerned about what people might think," Monica said, "I know it sounds ridiculous and I shouldn't care what anyone thinks about how fast or slow my relationship with Charles moves forward. But it's still there to some degree."
"Why do you care what other people think?" Jason asked.
"I don't know," Monica said, "It seems rather silly doesn't it?"
