Chapter one:
"What's the white wolf?" One of the young werewolf pups inquire to one of the elders.
Mello pauses where he was going to look to the children who have gathered around an elder.
"Well. The white wolf is one of great mystery. He's a lone wolf. Not in a pack like you or me." The elder, who is in a greying brown wolf form, looks up as if looking back on her memories. "He is said to wander the wilds and only appear to others when he deems it necessary. They say he delivers prophecies to those that need to hear it. He is hard to find as he is excellent at stealth and he is quiet. His wise knowledge helps him know when the time is right." She looks back to the pups before her. "So should you ever see a white wolf out there don't attack or run away. You may receive great knowledge or even a prophecy. It can be worth it to see if he will share wisdom with you." She leans a little closer to the pups with sparkling light brown eyes. "Some packs even leave out offerings to the white wolf. So if he passes by he can have something to eat. Sometimes he'll even leave a gift as thanks."
"Do we do that?" A small red wolf tilts his head curiously.
"We do. It is a special task. However the location of the offerings is not a place to be disturbed. Only checked on to make sure the food doesn't go bad. The fresher the better. The white wolf doesn't like to let others see him eat."
Mello turns away as the pups try to demand more stories about the white wolf. He's heard about the white wolf plenty. He isn't too sure about the other and thinks it's a waste of food to leave it out. He doesn't understand just doing it out of hope that the white wolf will pass by. He does one day hope to find this strange wolf. He'd like proper answers from the source itself. He heads off on his way as it is his turn to check the offerings. He grabs some fresh stuff just in case and sets out. He has some time to think to himself as he goes to the edge of this packs territory. He knows that he has just recently become of age to be allowed to start to look for a mate. He however isn't all that interested in doing that currently. He hasn't even noticed anyone in the pack that has gotten him to get even the smallest of crushes. He thinks about his idol in the pack who is a black wolf named L.
L was taken in by the packs alpha after feeling a connection to the black wolf since they both lost all of their family. He had lost them all to an illness that he managed to survive, while the alpha lost his mate and family to a bear attack when his mate took their children out of the packs camp for the first time. He has now taken over as pack leader and all eyes are on him to see who he will pick to lead alongside him as his mate.
No one is aware of any who have noticeably caught L's eyes thus so much attention is on him as everyone wants to know who it will end up being.
Mello blinks out of his thoughts as he arrives to the spot. He sets the stuff down and is about to grab the food that most likely has gone too stale to be good enough to be an offering anymore. He pauses with a blink realizing that a lot of it is now gone and there is a little left with one of the meats having a bite taken out of it. His heart starts to beat a bit faster as he realizes that the offering was accepted and eaten.
The offering area is an area that is protected by an old witch's charm that was gifted when she heard about the wolves tale of the white wolf. It means that only the white wolf and the werewolf pack is allowed to find the spot where the low table sits under a tree.
The witch said that this way they can truly be sure if this wolf is real and it is said that it was proven so the witch went to all packs to give them a magical charm. She was impressed that such a wolf was truly out there though she said how she never saw the wolf for herself she knew her magic well. She had changed it so only the white wolf could enter to be sure and declared that he is out there as it still happened.
Some say that the white wolf was aware of what she was doing and proved his own existence to the witch so she can help the other packs.
Mello looks around after not spotting any footprints. He wonders if the white wolf could truly be somewhere nearby right in this moment. His sweeping gaze stops as he spots a figure in the slight distance that has him fully freezing up. His breathing stuttering in the shock at what he is seeing.
Out there with the sun shining just right on him is a wolf who has a beautiful all white pelt. Standing there almost sparkling like freshly fallen snow in the sunlight.
Mello can't do anything but stare as his mind only repeats the fact that he is staring right at the white wolf himself! He is soon snapped out of it as the wolf moves away heading further away and out of sight. He quickly transforms into his blonde wolf form running towards where he had seen the white wolf. He inhales through his nose to try to catch the scent of the other so he can hopefully follow it. He isn't really sure what he will say to the other if he truly does meet him. He just has to try to get a closer look as well as hopefully be able to meet this legendary wolf of so many tales. His nose is invaded by the smell of white lilies and a little of something sweet. He skids to a stop of the last place he had seen the white wolf before the other vanished from his line of sight. He can't find the scent any longer as if the wolf had just vanished after leaving the line of sight. He looks around frantic for a clue or another glimpse. "No. That can't be it." He says to himself quietly as he tries to spot even a glimmer of the other wolf. He finds nothing and quickly realizes that there is no way that he is going to be able to follow this white wolf. He sighs in disappointment lowering his ears along with his head as he feels disappointed and a little frustrated.
The white wolf doesn't like to be watched eating sure however why couldn't he have just been more easy to follow as there is no way that another chance like this will happen again.
Mello's ears perk up in alert as he swears that he hears a soft beautiful slightly soft howl. He raises his head looking around though doesn't see anything. His ears flick in curiosity as he hears a whispered message that flows with a breeze.
"We will meet again."
Mello's breath catches in his throat at the promise being whispered to him. "White wolf?" He manages to get out as he looks around hoping that maybe somewhere there the wolf will be. He still doesn't see anything and the area falls quiet as if no such thing had happened there. He looks down trying to wrap his head around all of this. He closes his eyes after a few moments giving his head a slight shake.
Surely that must have been some kind of weird thing that could have been mistaken for being a white wolf encounter.
Mello turns around to go back only to gasp as he spots a log has fallen where he had been standing when he had spotted the white wolf. He would have been crushed if he hadn't moved when he did. He looks over his shoulder to try to spot the other though there is no one now. He looks back to the scene and decides to set up the offering. He takes extra care this time instead of being a bit more sloppy with it. He feels more confident that the white wolf is out there and that there is truly something special about him. He decides to not tell anyone as he would rather be able to get out without being swarmed about his encounter. He wants to see if the promise to see each other again is going to come true or not. He wants to know more and has so many questions that he would love to ask this mysterious being.
