Red looked at the sign in front of the gym "Blue… he won before me… Squirtle probably beat the gym all by himself…"

Sammy comes out of Viridian Forrest. Weedle on his shoulder "Red, I know he seems impassable. But let me tell you something, there's more than one kind of attack." He quickly shows up in a battle between a wild Pikachu and one of the many bug catchers "See how that Metapod's Harden does nothing? Because that Pikachu is using a Special Attack, that's when an attack is all energy, nothing physical about it! That Onix absorbed every blow because your Pokémon attacked with only their bodies!"

Red and Sammy train! Jas learning to summon gusts of wind! The Weedle evolving twice! In a battle with Beedrill, Red calls out "Abby! Get out there and use Ember!" Throwing the Pokéball, the fire lizard comes out immediately spitting flame!

"Fury Attack!" Cried out Sammy, but his Beedrill was soon overwhelmed! Charmander beginning to glow, and grow! "Your Charmander! It's evolving!"

A big strong Charmeleon stood tall! Determined! "Let's go beat Brock!" Red told her

Brock sees Red come back to the gym "After last time, you wish to challenge me again? I hope you had some extensive training!"

"I have! Sam taught me everything I need!" He tells Brock "Two on two!"

Back in the stadium, fewer people came to watch, Red getting trounced last time made people not take him seriously! The referee "Leader Brock has accepted a rematch! Red from Pallet Town! Select your first Pokémon!"

"Jas! Let's go!"

"Geodude! Round two!"

"Sand attack!"

"Tackle!" Geodude jumps at Jas but misses, the eye irritation hurts!

"Gust!" The winds hurt!

"Defense Curl!"

"Ignore it! Use Gust!" The wind produced by Jas' wings caused the curling Geodude to spin around and crash!

Geodude is lying helplessly on the floor, dizzy, the referee raises a flag "Geodude is unable to battle! Pidgey wins!"

Brock looked down at his Pokéball, thinking back to his birthday, when he received a pet Onix. He threw the Pokéball "Go! Onix!"

"Sand-attack!" It kicks sand in Onix's eyes!

"Bide!"

"Gust!" Jas tries pushing him away "Gust!" In a flash, Jas is knocked out "Bide counters both physical and special moves…"

"Pidgey is unable to battle! Onix wins!" Said the referee

"It's all up to you! Abby!" He sends out Charmeleon "Ember!"

Onix is hit, but Brock simply tells him "Bide!"

"Smokescreen!" Abby spews smoke! Filling the room! "Again!" More and more smoke obscures the battlefield!"

With no attacks absorbed, the bright flash of Bide looked more like a weak little flicker "Screech!"

The whole battlefield heard a powerful roar! But Red just smirked "Thanks for giving away where Onix is! Ember! Now!"

"Use the light of the flame! Bind!"

The battle cries of both Pokémon go off! And when the smoke clears… a flag is raised! "Onix is unable to battle! The winner is Red from Pallet Town!"

Onix is returned to its Pokéball "You did good Onix…" Brock walks up to Red "I underestimated you Red. As proof of your victory, here's the Boulder Badge!"

Red placed it in his badge case! "That Bide move was tricky! Can I stay and train here? Abby could use a move like that!"

"Definitely…" With practice and instructional video, Abby slowly but surely learned Bide! Brock thought back to the previous Pallet Town trainer, Blue, who swept through the gym with Squirtle, took the back, and left, laughing at how low the list of winning trainers this year was! Red was different, humble, patient…

When their training was complete, Brock told Red "I have a friend in Cerulean! Her name's Misty! Specializes in offense with Water types! I think she'll be perfect for your next battle!"

Red brought Abby and Jas to Pokémon Center, while they were treated, Red went upstairs and was given a room to stay in. As he went to sleep, he thought about what kind of person this Misty girl might be… and he'll find out when the journey continues…
