Red stumbled across a cliff, one wrong move sent him down several ledges, other trainers nearby helped him, some bug catchers used Strong Shot to make silky rope, some brought Ekans to attack the wild Jigglypuff before their song made everyone fall asleep, and a young lass identifies the path with her little scouts Pidgey and Spearow. Getting over was hard, but when they did it together, Red had some fun in Pokémon battles with them.
They camped at the cave mouth of Mt. Moon, telling each other some advice, what clothes were best for travel, what Pokémon were in the area… Some of the students say that Clefairies in the mountains are rumored to be aliens from the moon. Some even took pieces of the moon with them, and back when they lived on the moon's surface, they were something stronger, known then as Clefable. One of the trainers caught a local Jigglypuff, using its song, she helps everyone rest.
They wandered into Mt. Moon, learning from a local paleontologist that his partner was being intimidated by some thugs, the group found some rocks and some Team Rocket Grunts. Collecting the former, Red tossed a few to the others and battled the latter. Red quickly encounters the paleontologist, having found two fossils, Helix and Dome.
He wanted to thank his rescuer, with a quick fun battle, which Red won, and then with a fossil. "You can only take one, I need something to bring back."
Red looked upon both, the Helix fossil felt like it spoke to him, despite being long dead, it seemed full of life! It wants to guide Red! Red put it in his bag, leaving Mt. Moon. After a nice rest at the Pokémon Center, for Pokémon and trainer alive, Red couldn't wait for his gym battle tomorrow!
