Chapter 66 - Sloppy
Night fell over the forest, it was a strange sort of dark night. The moon was covered completely by passing clouds, leaving only spots of starlight which blinked down every so often at the forest. It was quietly peaceful all around. Yet, Sesshomaru sensed that something was not quite right. His gold eyes continued to sweep the forest before them, Jaken took the head of the column this time, leading A-un who had Rin riding on his saddle. Beside Rin, Sesshomaru walked, prepared to reach for Tojikin at any moment.
It wasn't long until the unseen irritation that Sesshomaru had been sensing became apparent as the scent of the two idiotic wolves from before, reached his nose. A moment later, they rounded the bend in the forest trail, and the very same wolf demons stood waiting for them. The yokai spotted them first, followed quickly by Jaken, who's bulging eyes widened and he stopped in the middle of the path. The two scrawny wolf demons, wearing little more than fur, stood in the middle of the path with their arms spread wide to prevent passage.
"Hnn... them again." The imp muttered to himself, more than to anyone else, but loud enough to Sesshomaru and Rin to hear.
"This road is closed, you cannot pass!" The one declared, followed quickly by the second one.
"Turn around and take another route!"
Do they have a death wish? Sesshomaru could not fathom why the two wolves, who reeked of fear, would dare stand in his path. They're demons, they should be aware that their level of power was nowhere near enough to pose the slightest threat to me.
Naive Jaken turned to look up at his lord, truly believing that the road was closed. "What do we do now, if we can't take this route?"
"Lord Sesshomaru?" Rin turned to look at Sesshomaru. When she rode A-un, as she did now, their eyelevel was nearly equal. However, unlike usual, Sesshomaru did not turn to meet her gaze. Instead, his sharp eyers were on the dual wolves that seemed to share a single brain-cell between them, and who dared to stand in his way.
"We're the personal assistants of Koga, the great young leader of the world demon tribe!"
Koga, of the wolf demon tribe, huh? I would like to meet the leader who inspired such insipid stupidity.
"I'm Ginta from the fires of hell!"
"And I'm slayer Hakkaku!"
"That wasn't what they said earlier on..." Jaken commented dryly.
"This road is closed. Turn around!" They cried together, holding out their palms in the 'stop' motion, toward Sesshomaru. A motion, they should well have thought better of. Sesshomaru did not speak, all he did was pin them with a dark brooding glare. The wolf duo looked directly at the yokai lord, sweat beaded on their forehead and they irises shrank to points, a clear fear response. They were terrified, and yet they made no move to back away.
Instead, they began kicking and punching in the area, a clear attempt at intimidation. It was rather pathetic and sloppy. Their aptitude for intelligence would not prevent Sesshomaru from harming them, if they continued to stand in his way. Once they finished their strange chicken-like movements, they struck a pose.
"Ya got that!?" They spoke in unison. Sesshomaru remained silent, but his irritation was growing with each passing moment, inhibiting what little patience he had left. At the lack of response, they delved into another semi-uncoordinated attempt at combat with each other.
"How was that?" They asked, again in unison. This time Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed, one eyebrow twitching the slightest bit.
Again, as if more chicken dance battle moves would do the trick, the one threw the other in the air, kicking as if his legs were clumsy wooden beams. It did little more than kick up some dust. Probably, the most unfortunate part being that, the move was likely the best battle move that they could hope to achieve in life.
"Well?" They cried together, their eyes hopeful.
I've had enough of this ridiculously childish behavior. Sesshomaru's eyebrows drew together, a dangerous gleam in his golden eye. "Make way." His tone brooked no argument. It was a tich above a snarl. The two wolves literally began dancing in fear, their bodies shaking, wringing their hands. Yet, they did not move.
"Y-you go elsewhere. This path is closed!"
"T-there's nothing to see here. Move along."
Enough. Sesshomaru walked forward, his irritation making the fur on his mokomoko lift, in lieu of his hackles rising had he been in his dog form. "I told you to make way." The duo again started with fear, trembling to the point that Sesshomaru wondered if they would mess themselves. He did not stop advancing on them, fully prepared to end this ridiculousnesss. Perhaps they want to die by my hand.
"It's all over Ginta!" The one cried, trembling as the yokai moved steadily closer. The other turned to his friend, mumbling quickly something about getting out of the situation alive. Sesshomaru was not interested enough to focus on the words.
"Somebody lookin' for me?" Called an arrogant sounding male voice from the rock ledge that stood right over the treetops to the left.
"Koga!" They cried in unison.
Curious about this Koga, Sesshomaru glanced up, his expression unchanged. Is it you, wolf? Who inspired such a idiocy? The wolf and dog regarded each other for a moment in silence. The wolf was also clad mostly in fur, though he seemed to wear a bit more clothing than the other two. His hair was jet black, and his eyes bright blue. Clearly a full blood demon, though not one of nobility or consequence.
Koga spoke first. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Who am I? Sesshomaru scoffed in his mind. The wolf leapt down from the ledge, in front of his two moron followers, eyes still on the yokai.
"He reeks like that filthy mutt InuYasha."
The wolf demon stood, now on the path before them. Before Sesshomaru head a moment to process the fact that this wolf somehow knew his brother, he heard Rin inhale sharply from her place in A-un's saddle. "Lord Sesshomaru?" She said quietly. The yokai's eyes shifted to glance back at her. Her fear filtered into his mind again, cold as ice in his thoughts. Then, somehow the door between himself and Rin's mind was flung open beyond his control.
