After realizing how alarmingly long the gym had been locked, Red used the key he got from the burglar, he tried to unlock the gym, and it worked! Red crushed all the thugs inside, saving Blaine!

"Boy! I can't thank you enough! The world is learning more and more about the MewTwo project, performed 11 years ago in my own home… Alola and Kalos had power Kanto could barely dream of! I thought MewTwo was the answer…" Blaine told Red "I regret everything…"

"Is this why Fuji and Oak changed so suddenly?" Red asked

"It's why, yes. After the project killed his daughter, Fuji felt such shame he turned himself in, the man served his sentence, gave up his title, and dedicated his life to ensuring the dead could find peace. Oak was so ashamed of what happened with him as Champion, he resigned immediately, seeing the anger MewTwo had, Oak dedicated himself to the study of Pokémon behavior, and now he's taken Fuji's place as the resident professor."

Blaine had time to rest from the fight. It took 11 days, but the lab was finished, and Red got an Omanyte! With it by his side, Blaine's gym is here! Red is put on a stage, reminiscent of a quiz show, and lights blare!

"Welcome to Cinnabar Gym!" Said Blaine, holding a microphone, clearly the host "Tell me Red! How do ya feel!?"

"Excited for a battle!" Red says

"Speaking of which! Every time you answer wrong, you need to battle a gym trainer! And if you heal your Pokémon at any point, you start over!" Blaine asks "What Pokémon is given the title of: The Spitfire Pokémon?"

"Magmar!" Answered Red

"That is…" a ding is heard "CORRECT! Next question: How many badges are recognized by the Indigo League?"

"16! Though you only need 8 to enter!" Answered Red

"That is…" a ding is heard "CORRECT! Next question: What is the evolved form of Poliwhirl?"

"Depending on if you use a King's Rock or Water Stone, a Politoed or a Poliwrath!" Answered Red

"That is…" a ding is heard "CORRECT! Next question: Where can one find the TM for Tombstoner?"

"Nowhere, that doesn't exist!" Answered Red

"That is…" a ding is heard "CORRECT! Final question: Who are you about to battle!?"

"A riddle-loving old man!" Answered Red

"That is…" a ding is heard "CORRECT!" the stage suddenly turns into a battlefield with a mechanical whir! "Two on two!" He sends out Ninetales!

The ref appears, he's wearing the classic 'Lovely assistant' dress and heels "Leader Blaine has accepted a new challenger! Red from Pallet Town, select your first Pokémon!"

Tossing out Fonzie, he immediately begins with Surf! Ninetales retaliates with its psychic power! Blaine clearly has the same connection with his Pokémon as Red…

Ninetales fires off Flamethrower! Nidoking pushes through to use Horn Drill! "Ninetales is unable to battle! The winner is Nidoking!"

"Good attempt Red! But my next Pokémon incinerates all challengers! Hah! You better have Burn Heal!" Sends out Arcanine! Nidoking attempts another Horn Drill but is pushed away by Fire Blast!

He tries Surf but Arcanine jumps over the wave and uses Take Down! "Nidoking is unable to battle! Arcanine wins!"

Omanyte comes out! Firing Spike Cannon! Arcanine attempts to fire back with Fire Blast! Omanyte withdraws into its shell as it's hit by 3 more Fire Blasts!

Out of fire, Arcanine tries a Take Down, unable to handle the recoil of hitting Omantye's stone shell! "Arcanine is unable to battle!" The ref announces, making the crowd cheer!

"I've burnt out! You have earned the Volcano Badge!" Blaine finishing the game show presentation, having the badge shown off like a prize!

At the Pokémon Center, Red rests, knowing he's only one badge away from the Pokémon League! "That final gym won't stand a chance!" He says before bed
