After finally evolving Growlithe and Exeggcute he flew to Viridian! Presenting his badges, he was let into the Pokémon League, built on the base of Mt. Silver! "I'll show them! I'll show the world I'm the very best like no one ever was!"
Arcanine's fire handled Lorelei's ice, while Exeggutor handled her water! Pidgeot and Blastoise broke Bruno! Agatha's poisonous Pokémon were helpless against Rhydon and Alakazam! Blastouse's Blizzard froze Lance's dragons! He did it! He beat them all! He's on top of the world!
Then he realized… he was on top of the world… Blue stayed here with the Elite Four, clocking in, clocking out, he had no challengers… it got more boring by the day, his trophy sitting in his and Daisy's home brought him less and less joy the more he came home to it…
Training with the Elite Four gave him SOME excitement, but even that faded the more he did it…
Interviews… photo shoots for magazines… the champion deals with crises in their region but with Team Rocket gone, Blue never had to do that part…
He enjoyed meeting the gym leaders of Jhoto, even earning their badges, but… it was easy… he hadn't had a real fight since becoming Champion!
2 weeks pass… Blue asked "Why do I have no challengers!? I was prepared to defend my title! But no one is here!"
Agatha sighed "Few enough get 8 badges, even fewer beat Lorelei, most who beat her beat, Bruno," she teased, knowing he was within earshot "Fewer best me, and even fewer best Lance. Only the exceptional few who do all that can fight you…"
Back at home, Blue stared with destain at his champion trophy "I'm… the best.. the strongest… now what?"
His grandfather walks in, "Blue, why continue to be champion if you hate it so much?"
"I can't quit… I need to prove myself… he'll finish his training eventually, I have to face him…" Blue insists
He clocks in… challengers register…
