Chapter 3

Upon returning home and putting her groceries away, Lilith stripped out of her clothes (except her panties) and plopped back onto her bed with a *wumph*, to which she buried herself underneath the covers and hoped to return to her peaceful slumber.

Unfortunately, despite her attempts, she just couldn't. fall. asleep. and mentally began cursing the owner of the car whose alarm woke her up earlier. 'Fucking dickhead ruined my sleep schedule!' She emitted an irritated growl and threw her covers off before exiting her bed once more and stepping over to her dresser to retrieve her activewear, which consisted of a fuchsia pink sports bra, a pair of black booty shorts and a pair of socks.

Once dressed, she placed her wallet and cellphone inside her fanny pack and secured it around her waist before stepping over to the mat beside the door and donning her running shoes. Afterwards, she grabbed her crop top hoodie jacket off the wall rack and tied it around her waist before snatching her keys and exiting her apartment, locking the door behind her before stepping over to the elevator and riding it down to the lobby.

Upon exiting the building, Lilith walked three blocks until she came upon a familiar park and sighed as a content smile appeared across her face, melting away her frustration in the process. With that, she began her stretches and limbered herself up before taking off in a brisk jog along the walking path, hoping some fresh air and a nice run would eventually tire her out to where she'd have no problems falling asleep later.

Meanwhile, each member of the Bad Guys were currently off doing their own thing: Shark and Piranha headed over to the beach for a morning swim. Webs left to workout at the gym. Wolf drove off with his cat to see Diane. And Snake ventured over to the park to relax…and maybe eat a couple of birds that like to nest in the trees.

He was currently lounging in one of the trees, watching people pass by, unaware of his presence. Good. The less attention he drew to himself, the better. Sure, he wanted people to see him in a positive light; however, he liked his quiet time where he could be alone with his thoughts and relax.

While casually resting atop a sturdy branch, Snake observed several people partaking in various recreational activities: there were at least half a dozen kids playing on and around the jungle gym with their parents sitting and talking nearby. A pair of older men were engrossed in a game of chess at one of the game tables. An old lady was sitting on a bench, knitting a scarf. A young couple was walking side by side with a pair of dogs. And a young woman was jogging…Wait..he recognized that woman..

"..Lilith," Snake's eyes widened upon seeing the young blonde again. What were the chances? He then noticed she was jogging his way, to which he slightly lowered himself from the branch, hoping she'd see him.

Fortunately, she did.

Slowing her pace, Lilith stopped beside the tree where Mr. Snake was casually perched and smiled up at the reptile. "Fancy seeing you again."

"Likewise," he answered with a smirk. "I just came here to get some fresh air and immerse myself in nature for a bit."

"Same here. Although, I tried falling back to sleep after returning home from grocery shopping, but my brain wouldn't (metaphorically) shut off and let me, so here I am trying to tire myself out."

"Ah, I'm sorry about that."

"Eh, don't be. You're not the one who woke me up around 6:00 a.m."

"Let me guess: car alarm?"

"How'd you know," she asked, surprised, to which he smirked:

"Come on: it's Los Angeles."

"Good point," she shrugged as he slithered down from the tree to properly stand before her.

Taking a chance, Snake swallowed his nerves and asked, "So..I know this is a bit counterproductive, considering that you're trying to tire yourself out, but..would you care to join me for a cup of coffee? There's this one shop nearby that makes the best cranberry scones and serves a variety of herbal tea if coffee isn't your thing."

With a smile and a blush, Lilith completely abandoned the idea of wanting to return to sleep, and instead, opted to partake in Mr. Snake's offer. "Sure. I'd be delighted to join you."

"Wha..Really," he asked, while internally fighting the urge to vigorously wag his tail.

At his question, she nodded, "Yea. While you're correct in that it's counterproductive of my original plan, I'd like to take you up on your offer. Besides, I haven't really gone anywhere outside of work, the park and the store for a while, so it'll be a nice change of scenery."

"Well then, allow me to escort you," Snake replied as he regained his composure and slithered beside her while she donned her crop top jacket (for modest reasons).

Afterwards, they made their way out of the park and over to a nearby coffee/tea shop called 'Black Cat Brew'. Said building was quite charming on the outside as it was an older structure that had been repurposed for its current use, and featured an adorable wooden sign of a black cat sniffing a mug of coffee.

Upon entering, both Lilith and Snake were hit with the warm aromas of freshly ground/brewed coffee and warm baked goods. Layout wise, there were comfy-looking chairs and coffee tables, as well as a variety of paintings depicting coffee and black cats along the walls, all of which were done by local artists. There were wooden floors as opposed to linoleum, and lamps around in the corners of the sitting area, giving the layout a cozy living room type of vibe.

Sitting atop one of the arms of said chairs was a black cat, who seemed completely un-phased by Snake's presence. Obviously, said cat could care less if he was a predator or not, and opted to casually lick its paws and clean its face, while he and Lilith approached the counter where an older woman was currently placing some freshly baked muffins inside the display.

Seeing the venomous reptile, a warm smile appeared across her face, "Well, good morning, Snake. How're you today?"

"I'm alright, Tabitha," he answered with a grin before gesturing to the young woman beside him, "This is Lilith."

"Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you, dear."

"Likewise," she answered with a smile. "I absolutely love your shop. I honestly don't know why I haven't thought to stop by sooner."

"I hear that a lot, but that's alright. I understand it's easier to just drive up and order something from the convenience of one's car, but every now and then it's nice to just sit down and enjoy your surroundings."

"Which is why I suggested this place," Snake added as he casually leaned against the counter. "That, and I told her you make the best cranberry scones."

"Oh, you're a sweetheart," she gushed before asking, "So, what can I get you both this morning?"

"Ladies first," he glanced over at Lilith with a charming smile, to which she blushed and glanced up at the menu:

"Hmm, may I have a caramel cold brew and one of your famous cranberry scones, please?"

"You certainly may, sweetie," she answered before turning to Snake, "And for you, dear?"

"I'll take my usual order, please and thank you."

"Certainly. That'll be $10 even."

Before Lilith could reach into her fanny pack, Snake politely placed his tail on her arm and smiled, "Don't worry, I got this."

"Are you sure?"

"Yep. It's my treat. Think of it as my way of saying thanks for the company."

"Well, you're most certainly welcome. And thank you."

"No problem."
