Chapter 5

-Friday-

"Yo, Lily, what's with that look on your face?"

"What look," the young woman asked as she finished preparing another round of shots for a group of frat boys (yes, they're over 21) before sending them off with their server.

"That look," her coworker/friend/fellow bartender, Steffan, pointed out with a knowing smirk lining his face.

Rolling her eyes in a playful manner, Lilith busied herself with cleaning the bar counter, while trying to hide the blush that threatened to consume her face. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh please. Don't try to deny it: you met a guy, didn't you?"

Knowing he was right, a bashful smile appeared across her face, to which she emitted a sigh of defeat/acknowledgment, "Okay, yes, you're right: I met a guy."

"I knew it," he grinned before curiously asking, "SoOoo, what's his name? How'd you two meet? How old is he? I need the tea, girl."

"Sorry, but that info is classified at the moment. All I'll say is that he's one of a kind and he makes me smile. Now, we've only gone out for coffee, so we haven't actually been on an 'official' date yet; however, we did exchange numbers."

"And? Did he call you?"

"He did," she smiled as she thought about her recent phone call with Mr. Snake:

**Yesterday**

As she was busy folding laundry and putting away her clothes, Lilith's cellphone began ringing, to which she glanced down at the caller I.D. and smiled upon seeing who it was. Tapping the screen with her index finger and placing the call on speaker so she could continue with her chore, she cheerfully answered:

"Hello, Mr. Snake. Fancy hearing from you at this hour."

*:Likewise, Lilith. How're you today?:*

"Oh, I'm doing alright. Just finished some laundry and am currently in the process of putting it all away. So, what's up?"

*:Well, I was wondering if you had any plans for next Wednesday, seeing as how you mentioned that you have Wednesdays and Thursdays off.:*

"No, I don't have anything planned. Did you have something in mind," she asked with a smile lining her heart-shaped face while she pulled out one of her work shirts from the laundry basket and began folding it.

*:Well, I was wondering if you'd like to go for a walk along the beach and maybe grab some ice cream afterwards?:*

"I'd like that, Mr. Snake."

*:Great! Where and when would you like to meet?:*

"Hmm, maybe we can meet up at Black Cat Brew around 10:00, seeing as how it's on the way? I'll buy us the coffee and scones this time and we can take them to go," she added with a smile.

*:Well, with an offer like that, how could I possibly refuse,:* he noted with a slight chuckle in his tone, making her giggle.

"You can't," she playfully retorted, to which he emitted a 'hmm' sound:

*:Indeed not. Alright then, it's a date.:*

"Great! I'll see you Wednesday at Black Cat Brew at 10:00."

*:Likewise. Don't forget to bring sunscreen.:*

"I won't. Bye, Snake."

*:Bye, Lilith.:*

**Present**

"..Lilith? Hey, Lilith, you okay," Steffan waved his hand in front of her, to which she blinked owlishly at him:

"Hmm? Did you say something?"

"I was asking if you're okay? You kinda spaced out there for a moment."

"I did?"

"Yea. You were acting like you were gonna tell me about your phone call with this mystery man you recently met, but then you stared off into oblivion."

A blush appeared across her cheeks as she casually began washing some of the whiskey and shot glasses, "I'm sorry. I guess I've got a lot on my mind."

"Ooor, you're thinking about that guy," he added with a knowing smirk as he began mixing a couple drinks for an order that was just handed to him by a waitress.

*sigh* "Yea, that too," she admitted before drying off the glasses and putting them away.

Afterwards, she tended to a small group of guys who sat down at the bar and ordered a round of beers. Gradually, business started picking up to where Lilith and Steffan were zipping around the bar left and right filling out drink orders and keeping up with the tabs. Just another Friday night at Golden Mics, but they didn't mind as it kept them busy and earned them some good tips in the process.

-2:20 am-

Unlocking and stepping into her apartment, Lilith emitted a tired yawn and locked the door behind her before hanging up her keys and slipping off her shoes with a sigh of relief. If there was one thing she hated about working on the weekends, it was the constant running around/standing on her feet. Sure, she made good tips and was earning a decent wage, but still, it was a bitch to deal with at times.

Removing her cellphone from her backpack and setting said bag on the adjacent barstool, Lilith activated her music playlist and stepped into the bathroom for a shower, as she was a creature of habit and refused to go to bed smelling like work.

For the next fifteen minutes, she washed, scrubbed, shaved and rinsed to the beat of her music until she was smooth, clean and free of grime. How anyone could just fall into bed and sleep without showering after a hard day's work was beyond her understanding. She certainly couldn't do it. The very thought of entering her bed while sweaty and smelling of beer and burgers made her skin crawl.

Eww! No thank you!

Upon stepping out of the shower and drying herself off, Lilith hung up her towel and exited her bathroom, to which she stepped over to her dresser and retrieved a clean pair of panties. Adorning the silky undergarment, she then retrieved her cellphone and dismissed her music before moving over to her small kitchen and fixing herself some dinner, which consisted of orange chicken, potstickers, and fried rice. Sure, it was leftovers from last night, but she didn't care, nor did she feel like cooking something from scratch.

Food was food.

Nuking her plate of deliciousness, she retrieved a glass from the cupboard and filled it with ice water before setting it atop the counter and recovering a pair of ceramic chopsticks from the utensil drawer. Once her food was ready, she retrieved it from the microwave and sat down at the counter to eat in quiet contentment.
