Chapter 7
"I'm tellin' you, he's completely smitten with that gal. I think she's 'the one'," Piranha stated as he leisurely began mixing ingredients into a sauce for tonight's dinner.
"Well, I'm happy for him. In all the years I've known him, Snake's never had any sort of romantic relationship before," Wolf replied as he poured himself a glass of water and sat down at the table. "For him, he was always focused on the next big heist or planning our next tactical retreat. Honestly, I never thought he'd consider settling down. That is, until Lilith caught his attention."
"Speaking of which, do you think he'll bring her over for dinner sometime? I can make my famous teriyaki salmon and rice with grilled asparagus and lava cake for dessert," Shark suggested with a grin as he sat across from him and began rolling ground chicken into meatballs, to which he then placed them on a cookie sheet that was lined with baking paper.
"I'm sure he'll bring her over when he's ready. My guess is that he just wants to use this time to get to know her a little better."
"Which reminds me: I saw them exiting Black Cat Brew this morning when I was heading over to the gym," Webs added.
"Oh, I haven't been back there in a while. I wonder how Tabitha and Ralph are doing," Shark noted as he continued rolling out the meatballs before the sound of the lift alerted the four of them of Snake's return, to which they glanced over to see their serpentine friend slither in with a love-struck grin along his face.
"Looks like someone had a good time. I take it the date went well," Wolf inquired with a knowing smirk, to which Snake gave a nod as he approached the group:
"You could say that."
"SooOoo, care to share with the class," Webs encouraged as she and the rest of them looked on in eager anticipation.
*sigh* "Alright. Fine." Sitting himself down at the table, Snake began to tell them about his date with Lilith, all the while a warm smile remained plastered across his face.
**Earlier**
"Thanks for taking me out today, Mr. Snake," Lilith noted as they casually walked/slithered side by side and neared her apartment building:
"Oh, no problem. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."
"Of course I did. But I mostly enjoyed being in your company," she replied with a shy smile as an adorable blush made its way across her cheeks.
"Well, would it be corny of me to say that I felt the same way?"
"Not at all," she lightly shook her head before adding, "I happen to like corny."
"Heh, thanks, Lilith."
"You're welcome, Snake."
"..Hubert."
"Pardon?"
"..My real name is Hubert," he bashfully stated, to which she gently placed a hand along the side of his face and gently rubbed his cheek with her thumb:
"Hubert..I like it."
"..Thank you," he leaned into her touch and smiled before she then leaned forward and placed a soft kiss upon his cheek. She kissed him! Snake felt his heart in his throat at her sudden gesture, while his tail vigorously began to wag.
"Sorry. I hope that wasn't too forward," she noted as he reassuringly smiled and shook his head:
"Not at all."
Upon reaching her apartment, she shyly asked, "I don't suppose you'd like to join me for dinner tomorrow. I mean, if you're available, of course."
Smiling, he gave her a nod, "I'd like that. Fortunately, Ms. Foxington hasn't assigned my friends and I any new tasks since last week, so I'm available tomorrow as well."
"Great! How does homemade lasagna sound?"
"Sounds good. Would you like me to bring anything to contribute?"
"Just your appetite," she replied with a smile, to which he emitted a chuckle:
"That, I can do. However, I'll still bring something out of courtesy. Call me old-fashioned in that sense."
"Hmm, I like old-fashioned," she winked, bringing a slight blush to his cheeks.
**Present**
"So, she invited you over to her place for dinner tomorrow night," Shark excitedly inquired, to which he nodded:
"Yep. She's offered to make homemade lasagna, so I reckon I'll bring a bottle of red wine to pair with it."
"Oooh, fancy. Be sure to wear something nice then," Piranha suggested.
"I was already planning on it," he noted before slithering out of his chair and over to the fridge to pour himself a glass of lemonade. "By the way, I was thinking I'd bring her over here sometime. If that's alright with you guys."
"Sure thing, buddy," Wolf replied with a knowing grin. "By the way, the Good Samaritan Award Ceremony is coming up next month. Maybe you could bring Lilith as your plus one," he winked, while his friends nodded in agreement:
"Oh, yea, that's a great idea! You two could attend the gala together and dress all fancy. I bet she'd love to see you in a suit," Shark grinned, prompting Snake to roll his eyes, while a small smile appeared on his face:
"Heh, maybe."

Meanwhile, Lilith was now on her way over to the supermarket to pick up some essential ingredients for tomorrow's dinner with Snake, no...Hubert. A smile formed along her face as she thought about the serpent in question, to which her mind then drifted to the kiss she gave him and how smooth his scales felt against her lips. She then wondered how the scales of his mouth would feel.. 'Stop it, Lilith. Don't rush into things just yet. Let him make the next move,' she told herself as the bus suddenly stopped in front of the store, to which she stood up from her seat and exited with her backpack and reusable shopping bags in tow.
Upon entering the supermarket and grabbing a cart, she headed over to the produce section and began gathering the items she needed to make her Nonna's special sauce recipe. Growing up with a Sicilian grandmother meant learning how to make all of her sauces from scratch, as well as learning how to make a proper cannoli, unlike the disgraceful crap sold at these so-called 'Italian' restaurants.
Rolling her eyes of such nonsense, she continued with her shopping by moving over to the bakery section and picking up an Italian loaf. While she could make homemade bread, it was a bit too late to commit to that as well as the homemade lasagna. No. The lasagna was far more important as it would take the most time due to the fact that not only would she be making the sauce from scratch, but the noodles as well. This was going to be an all day task and she needed to devote the majority of her time and energy to the main dish as opposed to the bread and salad. As for dessert, she opted to pick up some gelato as there was no way she'd have time to also make cannoli's.
Regardless, she knew tomorrow night's dinner was going to be great.
