A patient came by the shrine last night. He was cursed by a demon warlock. Normal healing didn't work. Herbs weren't effective either. Turns out the warlock used dark magic.

I've never thought I would be reading about dark magic until now. Dark magic is a satanic power that's the opposite of light magic. The weirder uses the power for selfish and malicious purposes. Light magic is about connecting with our inner strength. Dark magic is all about drawing power from negative emotions. Anger, hate, grief, despair, it doesn't matter. Whoever engages in dark magic will be corrupted, and their soul will be forever be damaged.

The force is to be reckoned with. Any spell or curses will greatly harm someone. The warlock used his own blood to curse the poor man. He's losing hope. He can't eat. He can't sleep. His skin keeps decaying. Hair is slowly falling out. There must be a way to save him! I only have a few days to figure it out.

I decided to confront the warlock myself. His source of magic was incredible. The darker the person is, the higher the power they wield. It amazes me how the dark mind can really control people. The battle was tedious, but nothing can stop the holy light. After all, the light will always win. The patient was able to heal within five days.

For four days, Tuski's been locked inside her room, studying the power of sacred healing. Only the women in the Saito tribe had that ability. Unfortunately for her, all of her female relatives were dead. To help with her study, Grandfather Saito gave her his mother's journals and books that consist of herbs, notes, and medical symptoms.

Ichika Saito was an extraordinary healer. She contributed so much to the Human World without accepting a single penny. Tsuki wished her great-grandmother could teach her right now. Once she improved, Tsuki will be able to teach the new generation of healers.

The priestess wrote down more notes while playing with her hair. Mastering the art of healing was going to take a while. Some wounds took days to heal. Some healing sessions can even strain or harm her. With careful practice, Tsuki knew this ability would be a great asset to herself, and her loved ones.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at her door.

"Granddaughter, come outside immediately." Grandfather Saito's tone was calm but a little drastic.

He probably wants me to go outside for some fresh air, Tsuki thought casually. She closed the journal and got up from her desk.

Tsuki furrowed her eyebrows after she opened the door. "Is something the matter?" She asked. Her grandfather's lips were pursed while he clenched his fists into tight balls.

Grandfather Saito took a deep breath and loosened his grip. His eyes softened when he smiled at her. "Brew some tea and bring three cups. I'll be in the honden. We have an unexpected guest."

She trailed behind him as they headed downstairs. "Who is it?"

"Tsuki," Grandfather Saito sighed heavily and frowned. "This is not the time to ask any questions. Do as I say and meet me in the honden." He left without another word.

Tsuki went into the kitchen and grabbed the teapot from the counter. She scooped a few teaspoons of green tea leaves and put them on top of the teapot's strainer.

As the hot water poured inside the teapot, all she could do was massage her forehead and pace back and forth. Who was the guest? Why was her grandfather so unease? The anticipation was causing her anxiety to go up.

Fearing that her grandfather would scold her if she didn't present the tea correctly, Tsuki took her time placing the cups, saucers, and teapot on top of the tray.

She sensed the guest's energy when she made it outside the main room. When Tsuki got closer to the honden, she spotted large black shoes next to the door. Why was a huge demon talking to her grandfather?

Tsuki knocked hard before sliding the honden door open. "Grandfather, I'm coming in."

When she entered, Tsuki stumbled and caught her breath. The cups cluttered together, and the teapot spilled some water on the tray. She paused to gain her composure.

"Hello, Tsuki. Long time no see," younger Toguro greeted.

His dark voice penetrated her soul. Tsuki couldn't help herself as her hands and legs began to shake. The demon that almost killed her and her friends had survived unscathed.

They were in the middle of the floor. Grandfather sat behind Inari's statue while Toguro sat across from him. Only a small table distance them from each other.

"Granddaughter, come sit next to me," Grandfather Saito commanded.

Tsuki didn't budge. Toguro's gaze was difficult to avoid.

"Tsuki," Grandfather Saito stood up with open arms. "It's alright. He only came here to talk."

"That's right." Toguro's lips curled upwards. "I don't mean any harm. I came to pay respect to an old comrade."

Tsuki gulped and finally moved her feet, making sure to put enough distance between them. Toguro never took his eyes off of her.

"Tsuki," Grandfather Saito settled back down after she put the tray on top of the table. "Pour us some tea."

The priestess sat on the pillow. "Yes, grandfather." She did her best not to shake the teapot. A few drops spilled here and there, but she carefully managed to pour Toguro's cup first, then her grandfather's, and lastly her. They all cupped their hands and bowed.

The younger Toguro lifted his cup. "Cheers to the Saito tribe."

Tsuki and her grandfather saluted with a nod. They patiently waited for Toguro to drink before sipping their cup.

After Yukina's case, Grandfather Saito told Tsuki that the Toguro brothers were his old teammates in the Dark Tournament. The brothers were humans first before wishing to become demons after they won the championship.

"You and Aiya did an excellent job of hiding her. I didn't realize Tsuki was your granddaughter until she summoned Inari," Toguro explained. "She's still a beautiful and powerful fox. I hope she was able to recover."

Tsuki glared at him. It took her three days to summon Inari again. Each morning she meditated for over an hour inside the honden. She sometimes heard whimpers. Sometimes nothing. Yesterday's session was ok. Inari licked her to stop her worrying. It helped. Then Tsuki realized that in order for the fox goddess to heal, she needed to recover. After all, her energy was her guardian's energy.

Toguro turned to Grandfather Saito. "I can't believe it's been ages since I've seen you. You've been so quiet lately. The demons used to scatter away like roaches when they came near your spiritual aura. Now, I hear you're just a retired old priest. You look so wrinkled and frail, Hayato."

"Of course, Toguro. That's the price we have to pay for being human beings. You still look the same. I assume the Demon World is treating you and your brother well."

"Yes, it's a shame you didn't take advantage of the committee's offer. Back in the day, I used to admire your youth. You were the youngest and had so much fire. It's too bad your daughter was pregnant during her prime time. She would've been invited to the Dark Tournament as well. Very unfortunate to hear that she also died protecting the Kekkai barrier. You know countless demons and certain humans want it removed permanently."

Grandfather Saito crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. "Toguro, why are you here? I know you didn't stop by for a small talk."

"Of course, old comrade." Toguro grinned, revealing his teeth. He cupped his hands and leaned forward. "I have a proposition for your granddaughter. In two months, we'll be having the Dark Tournament. She has an invitation to join Yusuke's team."

"Toguro, you know that's not a proposition." Grandfather Saito's nose flared up. A vein appeared on his forehead as he sneered. "You're forcing my granddaughter to fight to the death."

"That's correct, Hayato. And you're fully aware that if she refuses, you, her, and her friends are going to die."

Tsuki stood up with her eyes sparkled with fire. She pointed her divine bells at his amused face. "How dare you threaten us in our shrine?!"

"Tsuki, stop," Grandfather Saito ordered.

"Grandfather," Tsuki pleaded. His demonic presence was making her stomach clench. "We can take him right now! He's defenseless without-"

Grandfather Saito slammed his hands against the table. He glared at her as his face reddened. "ENOUGH! YOU'LL SIT DOWN AND REMAIN SILENT, UNDERSTOOD?!"

The color drained from Tsuki's face. She lowered her gaze. "Yes, grandfather," Tsuki murmured with her divine bells morphed back to her bracelet. She sat down and scowled intensely at Toguro.

"I don't blame your granddaughter one bit. She's smart for wanting to kill the enemy before they could do any more harm. That's why I'm curious to see her in battle." Toguro stood up with his hands inside his pocket. He left the rest of his tea untouched. "You have two months to train her. Hopefully, she'll be on the same spiritual level as you."

Grandfather Saito rose from his seat. "Of course, my granddaughter will be ready. She needs to know what kind of hell she's going to endure in there."

Toguro's chuckled caused Tsuki's heart to drop. "Until then, farewell, Hayato. Tsuki, I look forward to your progress."

Tsuki bit her lip and waited until he slid the honden door shut. "Grandfather, why didn't we attack him? He was helpless! He-" The priestess stopped with her eyes widening.

As Grandfather Saito rubbed the nape of his neck, a few tears began to drop down on the table. He struggled to maintain eye contact when he finally answered her. "Tsuki, I'm so sorry."


"I can't believe Toguro is alive. I could've sworn we killed him." Kuwabara's eyes pierced the floor. "Now, we have to fight for our lives at the Dark Tournament."

Everyone that had an invitation to the Dark Tournament was in the Saito's shrine living room. No one sat down or even touched their tea. No matter how the boys portrayed themselves to be calm, the atmosphere was thick with emotions.

Tsuki stood by the stairwell. Butterflies were fluttering inside her stomach. She touched her shoulder where the elder Toguro punctured her. Tsuki felt stupid to believe that the Toguro brothers were dead. The scars were barely visible, but she'll always remember the horrible pain.

"I know you boys have no clue about the Dark Tournament. Toguro is wrong for forcing you guys to participate." Grandfather Saito turned this attention to Hiei and Kurama. "At least you have some demons as allies."

Hiei crossed his arms. "That doesn't matter if half our teammates are weak and useless."

"Shut up, punk!" Kuwabara barked and came in front of him. Hiei stood unbothered by his presence. "Toguro would've destroyed you too!"

"That's not the point, you buffoon. A lot of demons hate humans. They want to see weaklings like you die with your own blood dripping in the arena."

"Kuwabara knows that, demon. That's why I'm training him once I get back from Master Genkai's place. I expect you to help him as well." Grandfather Saito stared at Yusuke. "Are you prepared for the trip?"

"Yes," Yusuke replied. Since arriving at the shrine, the spirit detective has been silent until now. He was also carrying a small bag with him. "I already told my mom I was leaving."

"Good, we'll leave tonight. We don't have any more time to waste. I only have a month to train with my granddaughter."

Tsuki already put her things in the trunk of the car. When everyone left, she and her grandfather were ready to create a barrier for their shrine.

"We should get going then," Kurama stated. "We need to get up early to start our training."

Kuwabara lifted Tsuki and gave her a tight hug. "Don't worry, Tsuki! I ain't going to let anything happen to you! I'm going to get stronger for all of us!"

Tsuki smiled. "I know, Kuwabara. I have faith in you."

"We'll see you soon." Kurama squeezed Tsuki's shoulder after Kuwabara put her down. "We're a team now. Hiei and I will take great care of Kuwabara while you're gone."

"Yes, please sharpen your skills," the fire demon spoke. "You won't survive a minute if you're unprepared."

Tsuki nodded. "Don't worry, Hiei. I'm not going to die in a crappy tournament surrounded by demons that don't care about me."

"That's what I like to hear," he replied with a smirk.

After they left, Grandfather Saito turned off the lights and locked the main house door.

"Granddaughter, I live my life to the fullest without too many regrets. However, my biggest regret is my Dark Tournament's wish. I was selfish back then. I should've wished for all of the Saito tribe members to never participate in that dreadful place."

They walked to the middle. Tsuki and her grandfather held hands while Yusuke stood quietly by the stairs.

"These two months are going to be tough. You must stick with it. This training is your only chance for survival." Grandfather Saito squeezed her hand firmly. A cleared barrier was slowly forming a circle around their shine. "I know you feel hurt, sad, and betrayed, but keeping you in the dark was Aiya's wish. She didn't want me to utter a word about that hellhole."

They all went downstairs. The night was deep with the waxing moon completely out. The beautiful rock was the only thing calming the priestess's anxiety.

"Tsuki, you're a good soul. Unfortunately, a good soul isn't going to survive in the Dark Tournament. No matter what, you must be ruthless and trust your instincts." Grandfather Saito placed a "do not enter" sign on their mailbox. "I'll perfect your techniques. Genkai will teach you the basics of fighting and healing. The only reason I'm even alive right now is because of her."

Tsuki nodded as they entered her grandfather's car. Yusuke sat in the back while she was in the front.

Tsuki [11:01:01] Hey Keiko, ur probably snoozin right nw, but I won't be attending school for 2 months. I'll let u knw everything once I make it 2 my destination. My head is everywhere atm. Ttyl! ^_^

After she pressed send, Tsuki glanced at the moon. The Dark Tournament was going to be a vicious battle. Luckily, she wasn't alone. Tsuki had strong allies that supported her.


"Tsuki," Master Genkai stated. "Please, sit down. I need to have a word with you."

"Ok," Tsuki collapsed to the ground and fanned herself with her hands. She was glad to be taking a break. She just finished her 20 miles run across the dojo and demon forest. The next thing she was supposed to do was her strengthening exercises that consisted of 200 pushups, 400 sit-ups, 150 pull-ups, and 300 lunges.

It's been three weeks since her grandfather left for Osaka. Genkai's training was intense but wasn't nearly as bad as Yusuke's workout. From dawn to dusk, Tsuki worked on her stamina, strength, and self-defense tactics. Her food diet consisted of vegetables, greens, fish, and poultry.

Tsuki was also able to practice her healing powers. Each day her or Yusuke would have a cut, muscle strain, or bone that needed to pop back open. She was improving, but Tsuki noticed she was wasting a lot of energy healing minor wounds. To boost her spiritual stamina, Genkai taught her to meditate during uncomfortable situations. Tonight, she was going to train inside the demon forest.

Genkai put her tea down. "We're only a week away from the tournament. I believe it's time I tell you my plan. Did your knucklehead grandfather tell you about my relationship with younger Toguro?"

"No, he just said that you were teammates." Grandfather Saito wasn't the type to gossip about people's private business.

Master Genkai shook her head. "We were more than that, Tsuki. We were lovers."

The priestess's jaws dropped to the floor as her eyebrows shot to the ceiling. "Why on earth would you date a guy like him?!"

"I was young and naive back then. Toguro was such a sweet and nurturing guy. I thought I could change him, but I was dead wrong." Genkai stared at her. She proceeded with a serious tone. "Here's my warning to you, Tsuki. When a person reveals themselves the first time, believe them. Nothing you could do will change their mind. My love for him blinded me from that fact."

Tsuki nodded, praying silently that she doesn't choose a crazy guy as a partner.

"A month ago, I got another invitation to the Dark Tournament. I refused but changed my mind when they told me that Toguro was planning to invite Yusuke. I guess once he saw your power, he invited you as well."

"Why invite you and not my grandfather?" Tsuki questioned. "You guys were both his teammates."

"It's an old score we have to settle," Genkai smirked. "He's upset that I didn't choose him."

Tsuki frowned. "What kind of man does that?"

"It doesn't matter. I'll be entering the Dark Tournament as the masked fighter. I need to fulfill my duty as a master and teacher. Tsuki, promise me that you'll keep my identity a secret. I trust you because the dimwit doesn't know how to shut up sometimes."

Only Genkai and her were in the main dojo room. Yusuke was already doing a handstand with his eyes closed at the highest peak of the mountain.

"Yes, Genkai-sensei," Tsuki reassured. Things were getting too complicated for her head to comprehend. She needed to keep her lips zipped and wait for the story to unfold. "Your secret is safe with me."


"Are you sure this is the way, Yusuke?" Tsuki aimed her flashlight around the dirt path. The owls hooted through the night as they walked through the deep forest. "We've been hiking for two hours in the dark!"

The full moon was lighting their path. Yusuke led in front while Tsuki and the masked fighter followed behind him.

"We're getting close!" Yusuke grinned. "I see some fire up ahead."

The waves that crashed against the cliff rocks were music to her ears. Tsuki sensed tons of demons circling the fire. She breathed a sigh of relief and turned off her flashlight.

Some demons noticed them as soon as they emerged from the shadows. They growled and glared daggers at them. One wolf demon dared to approach Tsuki.

"Now, what a pretty girl like you doing here in the woods?" He mused while licking his lips.

Tsuki ignored him and walked with her team.

The demon trailed behind her. "Come on, sweetie. I'll take you back home." His paw reached for Tsuki's shoulder.

Tsuki squinted her eyes and concentrated. A pure white aura surrounded her body.

"Ah!" The demon screamed. He stared at his right hand in horror as it sizzled and popped. "That burn!"

"Back off, demon. Or I'll purify you," Tsuki demanded. Her spiritual aura flared higher. The demon gulped and scampered back to his teammates.

Yusuke glanced back and grinned while the masked fighter gave her a thumbs up. "Nice one, Tsuki. I bet he'll keep his hands to himself. Oh! I see them up ahead!"

Tsuki clapped her hands with her eyes flashing. The first thing she noticed was Kuwabara arguing with the demon captain.

"Hold on! We need to wait for our other teammates!"

"Rules are rules, bucko. The minimum for the tournament is five members. If they ain't here, then you won't be getting on me ship!" The one-eyed demon turned to his crew. "Open the hatch!"

"Now, now, that's not necessary!" Yusuke announced loudly. "Sorry to keep you waiting!"

"Hey, guys!" Tsuki greeted and waved. "It's great to see everyone again!"

All of the attention was now on the three new guests. Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei strolled towards them.

"Hey, Tsuki! Long time no see! I like your outfit!" Kuwabara grinned at the priestess.

Tsuki bowed her head while holding her medium-length skirt. A red bow wrapped tightly around her waist. "Hey Kuwabara, and thank you!" Her grandfather sent her a package with her priestess skirt, black shorts, and long white stockings. She didn't want to wear sandals for this trip. Brown ankle leather boots were best for combat.

Kuwabara eyed Yusuke's well-formed torso. "You nearly gave me a heart attack Urameshi!" He yelled.

Yusuke stumbled onto the tree and touched his head. "Sorry, this forest hike nearly wiped me out."

Hiei's eyes focused on the spirit detective. "Yusuke."

"Hm?" Yusuke scooted backward before Hiei could cut off his head. He didn't even blink as the fire demon continued his aggression. Genkai's training made sure the spirit detective reacted to any situation quickly. Yusuke finally held Hiei's sword between his fingers. "Damn, Hiei. That's how you say hello?"

All the demon team's mouths were gaped open.

"A-aren't t-hey on the s-same team?" a lizard demon stuttered.

"Yikes, I definitely don't want to be partners with him!"

Kuwabara squinted his eyes. "I could barely see anything."

"Well, you were following along. Your skills have improved," Kurama complimented. "We have to thank Tsuki's grandfather for that too."

"Hmmm," Hiei smiled at Yusuke. "It seems your skills had gotten a bit better."

Men and their shallow egos, Tsuki rolled her eyes. "What did you expect? We weren't taking a vacation, Hiei."

Hiei put his sword back inside the sheath. "Nice to see you too, Tsuki." He glanced at the masked fighter. "I assume this one is the sixth member of our team?"

"Correct," Tsuki replied.

Kuwabara stood in front of their new member. "You mean this little guy right here?! He's even smaller than Hiei and Tsuki! What's wrong with his face?" Kuwabara tried to peek over the mask fighter's rags. "Looks like a mummy or something."

"Trust me, that one is going to be a lot of help to us," Yusuke said while Tsuki nodded in agreement.

"Hmmm, I don't know. He barely comes to my waist." Kuwabara stated, scratching his head

"Size doesn't matter, Kuwabara," Tsuki argued. "We're capable of handling ourselves."

The demon captain's good eye glared at them. He waved his prosthetic hook around. "Enough of the pesky distractions! Let's get on board!"

The ship was huge. There was plenty of space to move around. After Hiei and Yusuke's small show, the demons kept their distance. Yet, that didn't stop them from staring, especially at Tsuki.

"And look what they brought on board, a priestess! Her blood is mine!"

"She's skinny, but I'm sure her body will fill me up."

"I bet she's a virgin too. I look forward to biting her small breasts."

Tsuki's eyebrow twitched. She tapped her foot and tried her best to avoid their lusty gazes. The demons were acting like hound dogs as they constantly panted and drooled at her. She stayed close to Yusuke, who was snoring on the floor.

"You know," Hiei stood on the rail next to her, staring at the calm ocean water. "They can smell that you're nervous."

"I'm not nervous!" Tsuki blushed heavily. She cleared her throat and stared at the fire demon. "I'm embarrassed that I'm a piece of meat to these demons. You don't know what it's like to be a woman."

"Heh, true. Although in the Demon World, I've seen women demons demanding respect as soon they walked in the room." He glanced at her. "You just need to show them who's boss."

Someone was going to feel her wrath. The demons weren't going to keep their hands to themselves. They were waiting for the opportunity to pounce at them.

"Come on you scallywags! It's time to set sail!" The demon captain's leathery, salt-worn face was rough as his crew hulled the ship off the trolly into the bitterly cold water.

Away from the safety of the shore, the ship immediately pushed its way through the water. The soft breeze streamed through Tsuki's hair with the chills nipped at her face.

"I sure hope the island isn't as boring as this ship," Hiei randomly commented.

"We're not on a cruise, you know," Kurama retorted.

Kuwabara rubbed his stomach. "I know, but I wish they had some food or some pretty waitresses that serve refreshment."

Before Tsuki could give Kuwabara a granola bar, the demon captain spoke on the microphone.

"Alright there, matey! Turn your eyes on the captain's deck!" His voice echoed the entire ship. Everyone but Yusuke glanced up.

"It's still going to be quite sometime before the ship makes it to the harbor. We're going to have an assignment to keep you guys from getting rowdy. The preliminary battle of the tournament will be here on me trusty ship!" The demon captain announced.

"Say what?!" Kuwabara quibbled.

"A preliminary before for the competition, interesting." Hiei jumped down and leaned against the rail. "He just made it fun."

"Now that we can't go anywhere," Kurama added. "I guess we don't have any choice but to fight."

Tsuki steadied herself as the ship suddenly began to shake.

"Ah! It's an earthquake!" Kuwabara scrambled away from the rail.

"Fool, there can't be earthquakes on the water," Hiei remarked.

"Look!" Tsuki pointed.

The ship floor opened, revealing a gigantic stadium. It lifted high from the ground and settled up near the captain's deck.

"She's a real beauty. Ain't she?" The demon captain wiped a fake tear from his eyelid. "Now, I'm gonna give it to ya straight. 15 teams have already been chosen for the Dark Tournament. They're just waiting for your arrival. That means only one team from this ship will compete on dry land."

His statement received a lot of negative responses.

"What?!"

"This is insane!"

"Hold on! I thought we were the special guest?!" Kuwabara proclaimed.

"This is the way they operate," Kurama explained. "They don't want to make it easy on us."

"All teams, please bring out your best fighter and head to the stadium's courtside. Here they'll fight in a battle royal. Whoever comes out of here alive will get their team a ticket to Hanging Neck island."

Kuwabara's flushed face glared at Yusuke. "There's no way I'm fighting these demons. Hey! Get up! As the group leader, it's your responsibility to fight in this battle!"

"No, mom. I don't want to take the stupid exam," Yusuke mumbled.

"Wake up!" Kuwabara grabbed his jacket collar, but Yusuke kept snoring. He shook him excessively. "I just said it's the group leader's responsibility!"

"Kuwabara, stop. He hasn't been resting for two months," Tsuki informed. Ever since they left Osaka, Yusuke was acting too serious, even for her. He only loosened up when they entered the demon plane.

"Then how come you're not sleeping, Tsuki?!"

The priestess shrugged. "Because I requested a day off to regain my strength. Yusuke wanted to keep training."

Kurama stood next to Kuwabara. "We must give him time to recuperate. He deserves that at least."

Kuwabara dropped Yusuke onto the floor. "Well, who's going to fight all those big monsters?!"'

The masked fighter strolled to the platform while the demon teams watched his every move.

"It seems like we have a volunteer," Hiei stated. "Good, I'm anxious to see what he can do."

"Are you serious?!" Kuwabara swung his arms sporadically. "We don't know anything about this guy! What if he loses?!"

"If that happens, all we have to do is kill everyone on the ship before we make it to the Island," Hiei responded smoothly. "We'll say we're on the right team, and no one will complain."

Kuwabara's eyebrow twitched. "You didn't have many friends growing up, did you?"

"That won't be necessary. Our fighter will win," Tsuki predicted. Crazy as it sounded, Hiei was right. They needed a plan B.

The masked fighter stood tall, facing the demons that were only a few feet away from him. The demons hurdled together before turning their attention on him.

"Hey, we got to warn him! They're all going to gang up on him!" Kuwabara stepped forward.

Kurama held his human friend back. "Patience."

"Attack!" The captain laughed mercifully. He was ready for the blood bath. "This is going to be better than counting me booty!"

The demons in the stadium jumped, ran, and flew towards the masked fighter.

"Die! You filthy human!"

The mysterious fighter steadied his position. Once they were close distance, he shot his fist out. Multiple amounts of spiritual energy stop the demons in their tracks. They flew into the water like swatted flies.

"Holy crap!" Kuwabara's fist pumped in the air. "He got everyone up there with one blow!"

Kurama touched his forehead. "I guess this is why Yusuke can sleep so peacefully with a bunch of demons."

The demon captain growled. "Grrr, I'm sorry to say it, but the 16th team will have to be a human one. Urameshi's team is the winner!" He sounded upset as he watched the mask fighter head back to his spot.

"Woohoo! I knew you could do it!" Tsuki cheered. The masked fighter winked at her.

"Good job, little man. So how about you let me see your face." Kuwabara bent down, but the mysterious fighter glanced away and pointed.

"Huh?" Kuwabara turned around.

The demons were all thirsty for their blood as they circled them.

"Do you think we care about the rules?!" a lion demon roared, crackling his claws.

A rock demon stomped his feet on the wooden floor like a sumo wrestler. "There's only one way to find the best team on this boat. You humans are no match for us."

"Well, wouldn't you know?" Tsuki's divine bells were already in her hand. "I knew they weren't going to let us win that easily."

Hiei sneered and took out his sword. "I think they stole my idea. We'll have to make them pay dearly for that."

"Of course," Kurama stated. He sniffed his red rose, transforming the flower into a whip with sharp thorns.

Everyone except Kuwabara moved out of the way when the demons lunged forward.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10," Tsuki counted, gliding away from the demon's attack. Master Genkai taught her to be like water. Always remain calm and allow your body to flow naturally with the current. "11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20."

They tried to ambush her, but she countered them with her barrier. Tsuki jumped high and aimed. "Spirit Arrow!"

"Argh!" Twenty arrows landed every shot in the head or chest. Her targets crumbled onto the ground.

Tsuki observed her teammates. She smiled as everyone fought off the low-class demons. Her team didn't need her support. They were handling themselves well.

"Oh no!" Tsuki gasped, grabbing everyone's attention. A demon was eagerly approaching Yusuke with his claws aiming at his heart. She sprinted towards him.

Yusuke stood up and swung his fists as a speedy ferris wheel.

"Come on! You can't scare me, grandma! I'll knock you back to your grave!" The spirit detective yelled. The punch made contact with the demon's stomach. He flipped and landed into the cold water.

"That's great! He's finally awake!" Kuwabara beamed.

Hiei tossed a demon's head onto the floor. "No fool, he's sleeping."

"Quit you stupid old lady!" A few seconds later, Yusuke stopped bickering. He plumped back down and gave out a loud snore.

"Even in his slumber, Yusuke is still remembering his training," Kurama stated. "What have you guys been doing, Tsuki?"

"Oh, you don't want to know, Kurama." Tsuki flopped next to Yusuke and grabbed her bag. She decided to take out her koto. Grandfather Saito gave it to her before she left. He even tightened the strings for her.

"Granddaughter, I won't be present. I need to remain here in case something happens to the Human World. At least this koto will keep you sane while you're on the demon island."

For am I weak, I am strong

For when I fall, my angels always pick me up

Sometimes I don't know the way

Sometimes I act out of impulse

I'm a shining light surrounded by darkness

Tsuki sang gradually as she strummed her koto. The group came closer to hear her melody.

The darkness hates my light

I always need to protect my soul

Sometimes I'm on my knees begging

Please darkness, have mercy on me

Her harmony was sad but frighteningly beautiful. The words continued to flow while she closed her eyes.

Then I realize. I need to get up

I can't let the evil consume me

For am I weak, I am strong

I'm young, but I have the potential for greatness

Who will guide me to the light?

Tsuki finished her song with an intense chord. She plucked the strings faster until slowly ending the song with a final soft touch.

Kuwabara, Kurama, and the masked fighter clapped.

"That was beautiful, Tsuki," Kurama complimented. "How long have you been playing?"

Tsuki felt her cheeks getting warm. "Thank you, and ever since I was a child. We could use some music after all that fighting."

"Speaking of fighting, let's see how far the island is Kurama." Kuwabara headed towards the captain's deck.

Kurama stopped walking and glanced back. "Are you coming, Tsuki?" the mysterious fighter decided to leave with them too.

"No, you go on ahead. I'll stay with Yusuke."

The fox demon nodded and followed behind the masked fighter.

It feels good to be alone for ten minutes. Tsuki thought while playing her koto. She jerked her head back when Hiei stood next to her with his hands behind his back.

Tsuki raised her eyebrow. "Aren't you going with them?"

Hiei gazed at the ocean as the full moon shined on them. "Why did you write that song?"

Tsuki glanced at the gleaming orb. "I feel alone," she confessed. "I don't know where fate is taking me. My path right now is filled with darkness. It's almost to the point where I don't know if I'll survive this tournament. I know my life isn't meant to be easy, but I just want to make it out of here alive."

"I'm assuming your parents are dead?" Hiei inquired. Before she could ask, he spoke again. "Your old man didn't give me any details, but I noticed you had a tomb in front of your shrine."

Tsuki felt a small lump in her throat. Her heart was aching when she continued. "My father left when I was a baby. And my mother was killed by a demon. My grandfather is all that I have left."

Hiei remained silent for a second. Assuming that was her cue, Tsuki softly strummed her koto.

"My mother committed suicide when her friend tossed me off a cliff for being a cursed boy," he explained. "You can say my dad wasn't there for Yukina or me either."

Tsuki stopped and listened attentively.

"The darkness has been inside of me ever since I was born. My pain and suffering were excruciating, but that didn't stop me from adapting to my surroundings. The darkness can consume you, but only if you let it. Tsuki, If you want to live, fight. Even if you have to hold your own candle."

The priestess touched her heart. "I know, Hiei. And I also know that you're not alone. You have a sister that's still breathing. I'm fortunate to have my grandfather." She made eye contact with him. "I admire your strength. It takes a lot of courage to survive, especially in the Demon World."

"Hmph, humans can withstand a lot of pain. Though I noticed your kind uses others to do their bidding." His chin rose. "That's why I can't bear to stay in the Human World any longer. The Demon World is much more entertaining."

"The Human World isn't that bad," Tsuki retorted. "I was fortunate to meet people that understand me. I'm not sure why fate brought us here, but I'm glad I met you and Kurama. We can all learn from each other."

Hiei's eyes fixed on hers. "True, a lot of humans I can't stand. But I don't hate you."

Bump. Tsuki's heart jumped out of her chest. She ignored the feeling and smiled. "I believe you."

She hummed while Hiei closed his eyes and listened to her tune.


Hanging Neck island was not an ordinary island. A dark and powerful aura was hovering around the area. The night only made the island creepier when the grey clouds revealed gigantic rocks that reminded Tsuki of a haunted and deserted reef. The demon captain told them that the hotel was only ten minutes away from the beach.

As they entered Hotel Kubikukuri, Tsuki felt they were interrupting a gala. Wealthy men with tuxedos and women with silk dresses eyed them. They whispered to each other while sipping their champagne and eating their caviar.

"Wow, are we really staying here?" Kuwabara observed around. He was carrying Yusuke with him. "It's definitely better than the pirate ship."

Tsuki sighed in relief. "Yes, I can't wait to take a hot shower and head to bed."

A serviceman came forward and bowed. "Good evening, gentlemen and lady. The hotel has been expecting you. Please, follow me."

An orchestra was playing classical music while the opera sang softly. The rich crowd continued to watch their every move.

"I got a bad feeling about the people here," Kuwabara commented. "I never trust grown-ups that fancy."

They placed them in a first-class suite that had three bedrooms. Tsuki had to share a room with the masked fighter. She already put her bag on top of her bed that was next to the window.

Kuwabara tilted his head. "Are you sure you're comfortable in sharing a room with a boy, Tsuki?"

"Calm down, Kuwabara," Tsuki stated as she sat on the couch. "I'm not dating the guy. Besides, he's a complete gentleman."

The masked fighter nodded and perched next to her.

After a knock on the door, the serviceman entered the room. "Your evening coffee, gentlemen, and green tea for the lady." He placed their drinks on the table.

Tsuki eyes glowed as she got her cup. They even gave her a small teapot for refills. "Thank you."

The serviceman bowed and left.

"Careful! Those fancy guys might be trying to poison us!" Kuwabara warned.

"Does that really make sense, Kuwabara?" Kurama already had his cup in his hands. "Why would they bring us all the way here to poison us?"

Hiei settled next to the fox demon. "The organizers want us to fight. They'll save their murder attempts for tomorrow."

Kuwabara rummaged through his backpack. "Yeah, well you guys can talk your logic all you want. I'm sticking with my can drink."

Kurama's eyebrows furrowed. "Why is there only one coffee cup on the table?"

"That's the one I'm not drinking, remember?" Kuwabara pop opened his cold coffee.

Tsuki stood up. "He's right. There should be two. One for you and one for Yusuke." Though, Yusuke was asleep on the couch.

"He, he, he, he," a child's voice giggled.

As the rest stood up, the demon boy with three stars on his cheek revealed himself. He was sitting on the dresser with the cup of coffee in his hand.

"How did you get in there?" Kurama questioned.

"He must've been here before we came," Kuwabara explained.

If that's the case, then why couldn't I sense his energy? Tsuki thought urgently.

"I came to the door after you got here. Isn't that what good boys are supposed to do?" The demon boy asked innocently.

Tsuki glared at him. "No, good boys are supposed to knock and respect their elders."

"Oops, I guess I forgot to do that." The young boy slurped the coffee. "So you guys are the guests, aren't you? You're so lucky. My name is Rinku. I'm on the team that you're fighting tomorrow." Rinku started balancing the empty cup's handle. "I wish I was the guest. They don't have to go to boring ceremonies or meetings about the rules. You just show up here and fight. I guess you don't have to worry about the prizes or the final rounds since you're going to be dead soon."

Why this little brat. Great, now Tsuki had to deal with killer demon children.

Rinku resumed. "Somebody told me the guests would be special, so I got excited. You guys don't look special at all. Maybe I even beat you with no hands."

"Don't you think you're talking too much?" A demon with blond and spiky hair was leaning on the wall with his arms across his chest.

Kuwabara blinked rapidly. "What? Who's he? I didn't sense either of them coming."

"Don't worry, Kuwabara. Me neither." Tsuki guessed their whole team was good at hiding their energy.

Rinku jumped down and ran to his friend. "Hi, Zeru. I was just saying hello to our enemies."

Zeru nodded and opened the door. Before he closed it, he glared at them. "Enjoy your last night of the living. Let's just say tomorrow you'll resemble your coffee cup."

When he slammed the door shut, the coffee cup splinted open. The dark liquid spilled all over the table.

"What a bunch of bullies!" Tsuki yelled. She despised it when people tried to intimidate her. Unfortunately, the Dark Tournament had a lot of mean demons.
