"Tsuki," Hiei's tone was gentle, but there was something deeper about his voice that made Tsuki hot. "Look at me."
Tsuki couldn't remember how they got to this point. It didn't matter now. Her gaze focused on the trees, the irises, the lake. Anywhere but his alluring eyes.
Hiei dropped his hands that were placed on the tree. When he pulled Tsuki into his body, a soft breath escaped her lips. He felt so soft and warm. Still, she didn't dare to look.
"Look at me," Hiei stated urgently. Little shivers of pleasure shot through Tsuki when his fingers brushed her cheek, trailing to her lips.
Almost as if she had no control over her body, Tsuki's gaze connected with his crimson eyes and held.
Hiei brushed his thumb over her lip. His eyes lit with open yearning. "Can I kiss you?"
Tsuki couldn't speak as her heart fluttered. After a few seconds, she finally swallowed and nodded.
A small smile appeared on his face. Slowly, Hiei leaned until his lips met hers. Tsuki shivered as the tingling in her stomach grew.
The sparks were undeniable. Hiei kissed her long and deep. His passion flew through Tsuki, leaving her aching for more.
By the time Tsuki became aware of her movements, her fingers brush his smooth bareback. Hiei groaned with pleasure when she pulled him harder against her.
Soft, low moans escaped Tsuki's lips as Hiei trailed kisses alongside her neck. She squealed while he bit tenderly on her sensitive spot.
Tsuki brushed her fingers into his spiky hair. The rush of sensations crawled through her body. She could only focus on how soft his lips felt against her skin.
Hiei growled hungrily and met her mouth again, putting his hands firmly on her waist. His chest rose and falling with rapid, short breaths.
Tsuki's heart pounded. Her knees became weak as he continued to devour her. Finally, she drew back, breathless.
"Breathe," Hiei whispered, nibbling on her ear. How could she when he was doing that?
"Ah," Tsuki caught her breath while he licked and sucked lightly on her neck.
Hiei stopped teasing. "Don't hold it in," he commanded, lifting her chin. "Breathe."
Tsuki obeyed him instantly, taking deep breaths. The way he watched so carefully electrified her body.
Hiei gave her one more deep kiss that made Tsuki forget her existence. After moving the strands of her hair, his lips graze her ear.
"It's time to wake up."
Tsuki's eyes shot open. She caught her breath and sat sharply in the bed. Recollecting herself, Tsuki gazed around the room.
Master Genkai was still sound asleep. Tsuki waited, but Genkai just snored and moved her head a little.
Tsuki checked the clock and groaned softly. It was 2 in the morning. She flopped back down, turning to face the window. The glint of the waning moon shone upon her.
The egg-laying next to her suddenly wiggled. For a second, it seemed ready to hatch. But the movement abruptly stopped, much to Tsuki's disappointment.
While rubbing the egg, Tsuki tried to relax and sort out her emotions. The dream felt very real. She closed her eyes, but her mind always drifted back to Hiei's face, his touch, his lips.
Tsuki's heart pounded, her hand gripping the bedsheet. There was no need to deny it anymore. She had a strong attraction towards the fire demon.
It felt so good. I'm crazy for feeling like this.
Tsuki sighed deeply, pulling the duvet cover over her head. She'll get up later than expected.
"I'm so happy that you're coming, grandpa." Tsuki glanced at the waves near the hotel. Her eyes sparkled in the beaming sunlight. "I miss you so much."
"I miss you too, granddaughter. I haven't been able to stop thinking about you." He told her with great earnestness. "I should be on the island within three days. I'm happy to hear that you guys made it to the semi-finals. How is everyone?"
"Everyone is great and hanging in there. But I'm worried about Yusuke. Genkai-sensei says he needs to take a final test. It's the only way to beat Younger Toguro."
"I see." Grandfather Saito's voice grew serious. "I hope that boy is strong enough to handle it."
"Is it that bad?" Tsuki's heart sank with her eyebrows furrowing.
"To be honest, that boy is going to have to go through hell."
Tsuki shivered from his statement. "Now I'm really worried."
"Look, Yusuke is safe in Genkai's hands. She's not going to put his life at risk if he can't handle it. Just make sure you're ready. How do you feel about that demon woman? It's obvious she wants to fight you in the finals."
"It's more than that, grandfather." Tsuki gripped her phone tightly. "She wants to torment me. I don't have proof, but my instincts are telling me she's behind the robot incident."
"Dark magic can be vigorous, but you're a Saito. The light within you is strong. Watch her moves and think outside the box," he advised. "Are you playing your koto? Did you water cleanse? Are you bonding with nature?"
"Yes, yes, and yes."
"Good. I know it's hard for you spiritually, granddaughter. But you need to release the negative energy. You'll get sick from the toxins if you let it stay in your body. And don't worry too much about your education. You have plenty of time to catch up. I just want you to come home safely."
Tsuki's eyes grew misty. She quickly brushed a tear that streamed down her cheek. "I understand, grandfather. I have to go." Tsuki spotted Yusuke, Kuwabara, Botan, and the masked fighter exiting the hotel. "We're about to head to the stadium. I love you so much. I'll call you soon."
Grandfather Saito sounded on the verge of tears. "Love you too. I look forward to hearing your voice."
"Hey, guys," Tsuki greeted, ending her call as they approached. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah, but Kurama and Hiei already left." Kuwabara scratched his head, glancing back and forth. "Where did they go? I swear those demons are always up early."
Tsuki had an idea but kept her lips shut. Kurama was scoping the competition, and Hiei probably tagged along.
"Who cares? They always appear at the right moment. Let's just check the stupid competition," Yusuke stated with Puu casually standing on his head. "I'm sure it'll be more entertaining than our last two fights."
"Puu!"
"Are the girls staying in the hotel?" Tsuki asked Botan while they walked the main trail.
"Yes, Keiko and Shizuru are showing Yukina around and taking her shopping."
"Yukina, my love. I'm so happy she came." Kuwabara gushed, smiling brightly. "I can't wait for her to see me fight our next contestants. Who do you think it'll be? Team Gokai 6 or Team Uraotogi?"
"Don't know," Tsuki shrugged. "But we'll see when we get there."
The group talked with one another for a little while until they made it to the stadium. When they emerged from the forest, the loud buzz of conversation stopped instantly from the demons. Hundreds of sets of eyes now swiveled towards them.
Yusuke returned the stares with a lazy grin. "What are you looking at, freaks?"
The demons growled and hissed, but didn't come close as they strolled to the entrance door.
"Say your last prayers because you guys are dead tomorrow!"
"Your head is going to be served on a silver platter, Urameshi!"
"Gosh, these demons are so infuriating," Botan remarked, scowling at them. "It's absurd that we have to put up with this."
"Yeah, I with ya on that," Kuwabara agreed, holding the door for the girls. "Let's head upstairs. I don't feel like dealing with them today."
Tsuki's heart fluttered, but she remained expressionless. The stadium was huge. What were the likely chances of running into their demon teammates?
Kuwabara led the way while Yusuke and Botan trailed behind him.
"Have you talked to Yusuke?" Tsuki whispered to the masked fighter.
"Not yet, but he can't avoid me forever," she replied as they walked upstairs. "The moron has been acting tough, but I know he's afraid."
"I don't blame him." Tsuki thought about Kana and her dark powers. "We're dealing with tough opponents."
"That's fine. You should be cautious of your enemy." The masked fighter's eyes focused on Yusuke. "But Toguro knows what the dimwit is capable of. It's time for him to understand it and face the dark shadows of his soul."
Tsuki glanced worriedly at her friend. She knew how tough Yusuke could be, but can he really handle this test? I have to face the darkness too. Tsuki fought a rising panic. Could she?
"Hey, I see Kurama and the shrimp!" Kuwabara called out, walking faster.
"What a coincidence," Yusuke replied.
Indeed. Butterflies filled Tsuki's stomach as they came closer. Just stay calm. You got this.
Kurama and Hiei stood by the rail, watching the show. Loud bangs, claps, and whistles echoed in the stadium.
"Well, well, well. Look who it is," Kuwabara began, standing next to Yusuke, who placed himself next to Hiei.
'What's up?" Yusuke gave their demon teammates a head nod.
"Hello," Kurama greeted. Hiei's eyes still focused on the ring.
Tsuki shifted her position near Botan in the far end. The masked fighter situated herself next to Yusuke, observing him closely.
"I guess you guys have the same idea about scoping out the competition for the semi-finals," Kuwabara stated.
"Had the same idea," Kurama corrected. "The fight is over."
"What?!" Kuwabara's bulging eyes stared at the arena.
Tsuki whipped her head. The large screen displayed three circles on Team Uraotogi's side.
Koto stood alone in the ring. "That was amazing!" She twirled. "If you blinked! You missed quite a match! In less than two minutes, Team Uraotogi crushed Team Gokai 6! Destroying them completely!"
"What match?!" One demon yelled. "Team Gokai 6 sucked!"
"Boo! The Urameshi Team had a better performance than this!"
Tsuki frowned, her eyes wandering. Team Uraotogi already dismissed themselves. Only the crew members picked up the dead bodies cleaned the arena.
"And so the first round of the semi-finals will be Team Urameshi facing off against the unbeatable, undefeatable, AND beyond believable Team Uraotogi!" Koto declared.
"Oh dear," Botan touched her heart.
"That's unbelievable." Kuwabara rubbed the back of his neck. "I mean I can't believe we missed the entire fight just because I took a couple of extra minutes to brush my teeth."
"Yes," Kurama asserted. "It was an impressive sight to behold."
"Though I'm sure your minty fresh breath was well worth the delay, fool." The sound of Hiei's voice did things to Tsuki's body, even when he's a smart ass. "Detective, what is that ridiculous critter growing out of your head all about?"
"It's just a puberty thing, okay? Don't worry about it," Yusuke retorted. He cleared his throat and resumed. "So Kurama, how's your wound treating ya?"
"It'll be fine. I'll be fighting again tomorrow." Kurama's voice rose. "Thanks to Tsuki's help, I was able to get the death plant out quickly."
Tsuki's cheeks became hot. She took a breath in and glanced at the fox demon. "No problem." She smiled genuinely. "I'm glad I could be of help."
Hiei and her eyes met, but she broke it off. Not before seeing a slight blush appeared on his face.
"Well, fox," Hiei began. "Seems your wounds weren't as bad as you made us think."
"No. Compared to your energy loss, I guess not," Kurama responded calmly.
Kuwabara snorted. "Shrimpie should stop being so prideful and ask Tsuki or Yukina to use their awesome healing powers."
Tsuki couldn't help but notice Hiei's demeanor changed when Kuwabara said Yukina. Yusuke snickered, and Botan leaned closer, giving Tsuki a better view of him.
Kuwabara's eyes glistened. "It felt wonderful being healed by Yukina. As soon as she touched me, I felt better than I ever had before. She's pretty too. I hope she finds her long-lost estranged brother. I'm going to help her look for him just as soon as we win this tournament."
"Yukina's brother, you say?" Kurama bent over to Hiei's level. "Yes, that sounds like a noble cause. We should assist her too, Hiei."
"Yeah, man!" Yusuke nudged Hiei with his elbow. "You could even lend an eye!"
Hiei growled, lowering his gaze as Kurama and Yusuke chuckled. "Will you shut up!"
Tsuki's blush deepened at his sudden reaction. It was so cute.
"Um, wait. What's going on here?" Kuwabara glanced at both of them. "Am I missing something? Why are ya'll laughing?"
Yusuke patted Hiei's back, grinning. "Just when Hiei said what's this ridiculous thing on my head, right?"
"I heard him say that, and it wasn't that funny," Kuwabara remarked bitterly.
"It wasn't," the masked fighter stated flatly.
Yusuke stopped laughing and glowered at the masked fighter. "Hello? What's your problem?"
The masked fighter sighed and glanced away.
"Look!" A demon yelled, gazing at the upper section across from them. "It's Team Toguro!"
Tsuki's nose flared while she clenched her fists. Ever since she set foot on this devil island, her deep hatred towards the Toguro brothers had intensified.
"Toguro! Toguro! Toguro!" Everyone suddenly gazed in their direction while they made their grand entrance, the Toguro brothers leading the way.
Tsuki glared at them. They stood by the rail and stared menacingly. Another tall member with heavy armor she hadn't seen before stood by Kana. Altogether, the five members' radiated phenomenal and sinister power.
Kana gazed at Tsuki, tilting her head while she slowly smiled. Tsuki assumed she was internally laughing with twisted joy.
Tsuki's face burned. She bit her lip before she yelled something nasty. Kana may have her powers, but Tsuki refused to tremble in front of the dark queen.
Yusuke and Kuwabara quivered, but the rest of the team stood calm. The tension in the stadium thickened with bloodlust.
Younger Toguro smirked. Tsuki's heart dropped when he pointed his finger at Yusuke.
"I think he pointed at Urameshi," a demon remarked as the crowd instantly turned their attention to Team Urameshi.
"Just can't wait to kill him, can't he?"
Yusuke's eyes widened. He snapped out of his mind and stared fiercely at Younger Toguro.
Toguro retrieved his finger, touching his chest. Tsuki read his mouth perfectly while he grinned wickedly. "You and me to the death."
Yusuke did the throat-slitting gesture, thrusting his thumb down.
The evil peered through the Toguro brothers' gaze as they walked away. One by one, each of their team members followed their lead.
Kana had an eerie gleam in her eye that made Tsuki's skin crawl. She waved, disappearing with her team in the dark shadows.
The masked fighter glanced at Yusuke. "At least your act is tough," she smartly remarked, breaking the heavy tension.
"Hey, thanks!" Yusuke stated sarcastically. "I work hard at it!"
"Such dark power. I feel so lightheaded." Kuwabara grabbed the rail, quivering. "This can't be. How could I miss it for so long from detection? We can't compete with these guys, Urameshi. What are we going to do?"
"Survive," Tsuki responded, terror fluttering in her stomach. Hiei stared at her intently, but her eyes focused on the ring.
"Sorry for the delay, folks! We weren't prepared for this fight to end so abruptly!" Koto announced as two new teams emerged from the waiting area. "But now get ready to watch Team Gorenja take on Team Kaido! We can only hope it'll be good and twice as long as the last match!"
"Should we go back to the locker room?" Kurama suggested while he and Hiei headed to the exit. "This round doesn't pertain to us."
"Yeah," Yusuke tapped Kuwabara's shoulder. "Come on, dufus. There's nothing to fear."
Tsuki glanced at the two appearing teams one more time before trailing the group.
"I'm going to get some drinks. Any requests?" Botan asked as they proceeded downstairs.
"Water, please," Tsuki answered. She had the urge to tag along but didn't want to be suspicious.
Kuwabara clutched his stomach. "Yeah, me too," he stated, his skin turning whiter. "I don't feel so good."
"It's no big deal, guys," Yusuke assured. "We knew we were going to face them sooner or later."
"Sooner or later, it doesn't matter," the masked fighter responded. "Are you prepared to fight Younger Toguro now?"
Yusuke's jaws clenched. He huffed and puffed when they entered the locker room.
Tsuki closed the door, wholly aware of Hiei tracking her every step. She stood between the masked fighter and Kurama. Her heart skipped a beat while she stared at the shaken Kuwabara. He looked completely lost.
"I'm just saying it's not a big of a deal, guys. And us bitchin about it isn't going to help." Yusuke crossed his arms. "You can probably feel their powers now, Kuwabara, is because your senses got better."
"Yusuke," Tsuki took a deep breath. "Kuwabara has the right to feel this way. We're dealing with killers who only see us as easy prey. They get excited when we tremble and bleed in agony."
"Come on," Yusuke urged. "Toguro is the big guy who made us come to this stupid tournament. None of us thought it was going to be a joy ride. But we can still beat them, ok?"
The door creaked open, revealing five demons. They glared at them murderously.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk," the pretty boy demon stated. "Don't you think you're forgetting about a certain group?"
Tsuki's eyes widened at their weird presence. A shiver curled down her spine.
What a bunch of circus lunatics.
Kurama narrowed his eyes. His tone turned dangerous. "No one of real importance."
"Huh?" Kuwabara straightened up, finally realizing the new presences. "Who are they?"
Yusuke sneered. "My guess would be the freak show rejects."
"Team Uraotogi," Tsuki whispered to herself.
"I'm Kuro," the tall blonde announced as he chewed his gum.
The tallest dark skin member revealed his teeth, flexing his muscles. "Makintaro."
"Ura Urashima," the shortest demon with fisherman garments stated.
The pretty boy demon played with his long violent-blue ponytail. "Shishiwakamaru."
"And you could just call me Onji," the old demon with a gray mustache addressed.
A flashed of irritation appeared on Yusuke's face. "If you're looking for us to go easy on you goofballs, you're wasting your and more importantly, our precious time."
Kuro spitted his gum out and grinned. "Nah, it's the exact opposite. We want a good fight."
"We'll be famous, but we're going to need more than two minutes of exposure for us to get that way." Shishiwakamaru ogled at Tsuki's body. "Especially you, priestess. You're the perfect sacrifice for my banshee shriek."
Tsuki gave the weirdo a dirty look. "Oh yeah, you're definitely a man for wanting to fight a girl."
"Spare me your feminist morals. You knew what you signed up for. A fighter is a fighter." Shishiwakamaru licked his lips with a wolfish stare. "I look forward to decorating the ring with your virgin blood."
Tsuki scowled and swallowed back swear words. In the corner of her eye, she spotted Hiei's body tensed.
Yusuke glared at the demon. "Arrogant little prick."
"And weird," Tsuki added.
"You can say that again," Kuwabara remarked.
"If you want to be famous. Why don't you start a boy band?" Yusuke made no attempt to conceal his smirk. "You got the look down."
Shishiwakamaru's face transformed, revealing his horns and fangs. His wild eyes widened as he pointed his finger at Yusuke. "We'll get ugly soon enough, Urameshi! Just you wait!"
The rest of the Uraotogi members laughed as they walked off.
Kuwabara rolled his eyes. "Those guys aren't even worth two minutes. Their powers are nothing compared to what Team Toguro was giving off."
"You're correct," Tsuki agreed. "But we have to deal with them before we fight Team Toguro."
"We could always wear blindfolds," Yusuke suggested. He stared at Kuwabara and chuckled. "At least that way it would be more amusing."
The masked fighter squinched her eyes. "Clownery is for the weak, Yusuke," she stated while Botan entered the room.
Tsuki flinched when Yusuke pounded the wall, creating a dent. Botan jumped and dropped the drinks.
"Leave me alone you masked freak!" Yusuke barked. Outrage flashed in those brown eyes. "Stop looking at me like that!"
The masked fighter stood tall, her eyes filled with amusement.
"If you got something to say," Yusuke advanced, fists tightening. "Say it!"
Tsuki and the team watched silently as the masked fighter stepped forward.
"It's quite simple really. If the leader of Team Toguro is Younger Toguro, then the leader of Team Urameshi should be Yusuke Urameshi," she explained. "The question I'm imposing is do you have what it takes to defeat Toguro all by yourself?"
Yusuke snarled, his throat tightening. He averted his eyes away from the masked fighter.
Tsuki frowned, reflecting on Yusuke's behavior when they were training. Dread had been growing in him ever since.
Kuwabara proceeded closer, arms wide open. "Guys, guys! Break it up! Let's just try to get along."
"Kuwabara is right." Botan held her hands up. "Can we please talk this through peacefully?"
Yusuke's temper sparked again as he glared at the masked fighter. "You think you should lead this team instead of me?"
"If necessary, follow me." The masked fighter calmly left out the door, hands behind her back.
"Yeah!" Yusuke eagerly marched behind her. "Let's take this outside!"
"Yusuke, don't be stupid!" Botan called out as Puu landed on her hands.
"Let them be," Hiei spoke. "They will have to settle this themselves."
"Yeah, that's what we were afraid might happen. Those two are so strong and so mad, they'll probably settle this all the way to the death," Kuwabara predicted, rubbing his chin. "And that's no good."
Tsuki doubted that. Master Genkai was just putting her plan in motion.
"It's a shame." Hiei shrugged. "But there's nothing we can do."
"And even if there were anything that could be done, it's hardly our place to interfere with their affairs," Kurama concluded.
Botan clutched Puu tightly as he struggled to breathe. "How could you possibly say those things?!" she demanded. "Can't you see they can tear this team apart?!"
The guys avoided her pleading eyes. No words of assurance came out of their mouths.
Tsuki gave out an exasperated sigh. A lot of confusion and misunderstandings were happening right now.
Botan glared at them. "And none of you even seem to be bothered enough to care!" She stormed off, holding Puu tightly in her hand.
"Puuuuu!"
"Botan, wait!" Tsuki cursed under her breath. She felt Hiei's gaze on her while sprinting out of the room. "Guys, I'll see you back at the hotel!"
Botan flew upstairs, showing her pass to the security guards. They nodded and allowed her and Tsuki to enter the upper-class area.
"Where are you going? Tsuki asked as the grim reaper strutted to a large door.
"To see Lord Koenma. He'll know what to do." Botan burst in. "Koenma, we got problems!"
Tsuki's head jerk while they came closer to his chair. Koenma was back to his toddler self.
"Yusuke and the masked fighter are about to face off and tear each other limb from limb!" Botan quickly explained.
"Yusuke and the masked fighter you say?" Koenma folded his arms, sucking the pacifier. "It seems the time has come for the spirit detective's final test."
Botan raised her eyebrow. "Final test?"
"What's all of this about, sir?" Jorge, his ogre assistant asked.
Tsuki's lips pursed. "So you know about it too, Koenma?"
"Yes, Master Genkai told me after the round with Team Mashōtsukai. Yusuke has improved, but he needs a significant amount of energy to beat Younger Toguro."
"Wait," Botan raised her eyebrow. "Master Genkai is here?"
"Yes, she's the masked fighter," Tsuki replied.
Botan and Jorge's mouths dropped. "What?!"
"I know. It shocked me when I first saw her too. But she's used her spiritual energy to transform into that young woman."
"Genkai was very powerful during her prime time," Koenma explained. "That's why it's so important for Yusuke to pass this test. With that source of power, he could have a chance to beat Toguro."
Tsuki frowned, her expression serious and steady. "But it's not going to be easy."
"Yes," Koenma nodded, voice turning urgent. "Yusuke must have the will to pass."
"Sounds intense," Jorge stated. "He must have to fight for his life to obtain that kind of power."
Botan glanced at Puu, eyes filled with worry. "I hope Yusuke is ready."
"How's your egg, Tsuki?" Koenma asked.
"It's fine. Not yet hatched." Tsuki beamed. "But it wobbled a little last night."
"Nice. It should hatch by today. Glad I gave it to you early. I trust you to take care of it better than the dummy."
"Yusuke can be irresponsible sometimes, but I know deep down he likes Puu." Tsuki rubbed Puu's head, who responded happily. "I already have a strong connection with my egg."
"Well, monks and mikos are the messengers of the Spirit World. It's easy for you to connect with animals on a spiritual level," Botan explained. "Come, Tsuki. Let's head back to the hotel. We'll see you soon, Lord Koenma."
"Yes, and don't worry about Yusuke. He's in good care." Koenma focused his attention back on the match. "Bring me more grilled squid, ogre!"
"Yes, sir!" Jorge saluted and stuck his tongue out. Before Koenma whipped his head, he scrambled out of the room, leaving the door wide open.
The girls quickly left the upper section, exiting the stadium. The demons grunted as they strided amongst the musty crowd.
"Priestess, I can't wait to masturbate all over your dead body!"
"You and your girlfriends are going to taste wonderful when we chop you guys into pieces!"
Tsuki's eyebrow twitched. Her instincts urged her to do something, maybe go smack one of them. But she couldn't pick a fight with everyone who annoyed her, and certainly not a group of pesky demons. She only gave them a look of disgust as they walked earshot away.
"Wow, I can't believe Master Genkai is that gorgeous woman," Botan stated. "I had a feeling, but it still blows my mind."
"Sorry, I didn't tell you." Sincereness glowed in Tsuki's eyes. "I swore to keep her identity a secret."
Botan smiled and nudged Tsuki with her body. "Yeah, I know. But thanks for coming with me. I just wish the guys weren't so nonchalant about it."
"That's how most guys are," Tsuki explained. "They handle their emotions differently than girls."
"True, but forget them. Let's go to the spa and relax for a bit," Botan offered. "I'm sure you need a break from all the tournament stuff."
"Yep," Tsuki agreed. She definitely needed some time away from Hiei. Her heart hasn't been the same every time she's near his presence. "It'll be a great way to bond with the girls."
Large pillows of clouds began to gather, turning the blue sky into gravel-grey. The girls could hear the rumble of thunder in the distance.
This is unexpected. Tsuki frowned, gut sinking. Up to now, the sky had been perfect. Now the dark clouds blocked the bright sun, rain drizzling slightly.
"Oh, we better hurry." Botan scurried, holding Puu tightly.
A deafening clap of thunder brought Tsuki's hands instinctively to her ears as she ran. The sound intensified with a large sheet of rain passing over them.
The wind blew hard; the sky grew darker. Tsuki's teeth chattered while they increased their speed. Oh, she hoped they wouldn't get sick.
The girls rushed into the hotel, huffing and laughing at their wet states. Botan released Puu while he shook his body.
"Wow," Tsuki watched as the rain splattered hard against the door. "It's getting worse."
"I'm glad we made it back on time," Botan stated. "We only encountered the beginning."
The employees greeted the girls, giving them towels and house slippers. After drying up, Tsuki and Botan grabbed their shoes and proceeded to the elevator. Puu flew right behind them.
Botan pressed the up button. "I hope the guys get away from this storm."
"Yeah," Tsuki touched her clenched stomach. The weather felt weird, but she brushed it off while they entered. Maybe I'm just overthinking.
"Welcome ladies," the receptionist greeted. "Please take a seat. Your room will be ready soon."
Tsuki placed herself beside the desk. Her shoulders began to relax as the frankincense incense burned by the small fountain. Meditation music blared softly in the background.
Keiko sat next to her with Puu on her lap. "I'm glad you can hang out with us, Tsuki. It's been a while since we bonded like this."
"I know," Tsuki replied cheerfully. "It feels great to take a break from the tournament."
"I hope the boys aren't giving you a tough time," Shizuru stated, settling between Botan and Yukina. "Especially my brother."
"Nope," Tsuki shook her head. "The guys are fine. Plus, the masked fighter keeps me company."
"How come she didn't come with us?' Yukina asked. "It would have been nice to hang out with her."
"She's with Yusuke," Tsuki glanced briefly at Botan. "They're still training."
"Really? In this unusual weather?" Keiko made a face, hugging Puu. "I hope it's not too long."
"It'll be fine, Keiko," Tsuki assured. "Let's just relax."
An employee walked over, handing them their towels and bath slippers. "Ladies, please follow me."
Botan clapped her hands as she rose. "Come, ladies. It's time to rejuvenate!"
The employee opened the door, allowing the girls to enter the changing room. "Once you have finished, just exit through the other door. Refreshments and extra towels are next to the jacuzzi."
"Thanks!" The girls replied happily. The employee bowed and left the room.
"I love this hotel." Tsuki undid her ponytail, shaking out her damp hair.
"I know," Shizuru agreed, putting her hair in a messy bun. "It's not often you get to stay at a super high-class one that's cigarette friendly."
The girls changed into their bathing suits, wrapping their towels around their bodies. After placing their things in the locker, they eagerly entered the spa room.
"Wow," Yukina's eyes sparkled. The spa had everything- a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and a large shower with multiple heads. "What a beautiful facility."
Keiko beamed at her. "I know I was amazed too."
Tsuki inhaled deeply. The sweet scent of cherry blossoms came from the candles placed in the middle of the table.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's enjoy ourselves." Botan grabbed a cup and filled it with ice mint water.
Tsuki placed her towel on the chair and got into the jacuzzi. Bubbling with happiness, she hummed softly as the lavender-scented water immediately soothed away her worries.
Keiko placed Puu on her head and settled next to Yukina. She let out a deep breath while the water brushed against her body. "This is amazing."
"Absolutely," Botan sat across from Tsuki, placing two cucumbers on her eyes.
Shizuru perched on top of the jacuzzi stairs, placing her legs into the water. She grabbed her cigarette behind her ear and lit it. "So, Yukina. Any plans after this tournament?"
"I don't know," Yukina stated, sipping her mint-infused water. "I would like to go somewhere safer and better for me. The ice village isn't my home anymore."
"You can always stay in the Human World," Shizuru suggested after blowing out smoke. "Is there a way for her to do that, Botan?"
"Yes," Botan lifted her cucumber halfway to peek at Yukina. "And since she's already lived in the Human World for so long. It shouldn't be a problem. I should talk it over with Lord Koenma."
Yukina's large eyes lit up. "Thank you, Botan."
"That'll be great." Tsuki smiled brightly. "We can spend more time together."
"Yes," Keiko agreed. "You're part of the group now."
Shizuru gave Yukina an engaging grin and winked. "I'm sure Kazuma would like that too."
Yukina blushed, touching her cheek. "He's so nice and funny. I'm glad my powers could heal him so quickly."
"Speaking of my brother, he's getting older and amorous." Shizuru placed her cigarette ash into the ashtray. "It's time to talk to him about the birds and bees."
Tsuki cringed, remembering the dreaded moment her grandfather explained the puberty stage. Really awkward on both sides.
"What are the birds and bees?" Yukina inquired.
Botan flinched, causing the cucumbers to drop in the water.
Keiko and Tsuki's cheeks flushed as they avoided looking at Yukina's innocent eyes.
Shizuru shook her head and chuckled. "It's a metaphor referring to sex. Sooner or later, you guys are going to explore and do some things."
"Oh," Yukina glanced down, blushing heavily. "I haven't experienced that yet."
"Me neither," Tsuki admitted. She paused, waiting for her blush to fade. "Shizuru, what did you do around my age?"
Shizuru pondered for a moment. "When I was 15, I was just kissing and a bit touching here and there, but that's about it. I didn't lose my virginity until I was 18. What about you? I know being a priestess, you have to be pure and holy."
"Back in the day, yes. But my virginity doesn't determine my purity," Tsuki explained. "My grandfather told me it's okay to find the opposite sex attractive, as long as I'm ready to be open. He just wants me to be safe and wait until I'm older to have sex."
"You can be responsible and have fun too." Botan picked up the cucumbers, placing them into her empty cup. "Experiences will help you understand yourself. And what you like and dislike in a relationship."
"That's right. Like what my mom used to say, you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince," Shizuru explained. "It's okay to flirt. Especially if you find him attractive. You can always stop if the feelings aren't mutual or you happen to change your mind. Right now, I'm crushing on this man I met twice at the stadium. I swear the tall, dark, and handsome ones always get me."
"You mean the guy with the scar on his face?" Keiko asked. "That was nice of him to let us pass through security."
"Yeah, even Toguro didn't intervene," Yukina stated.
They must be talking about Sayko, Tsuki told herself. Possibly the other members of the Black Black Club were here on this island.
"And you're right, Shizuru. We should have a fun dating life." Keiko's eyes crinkled as she placed her hand on her heart. "However, I'm lucky to have met my prince early. I know I'm young, but I can't see myself with anyone but Yusuke."
Tsuki smiled as memories of their relationship filled her head. "Keiko, how did you know Yusuke was your prince?"
"Well, Tsuki. Deep down, I always knew. Ever since I chased him with a stick after he lifted my skirt in elementary school." Keiko giggled and sighed. "Our relationship took time. But when he died, my heart broke into pieces. That's when I knew I had fallen for him and couldn't live a day without him."
"That's so sweet." Yukina gazed softly with a smile.
Botan gushed with enthusiasm. "Falling in love is a beautiful thing. It doesn't have to be perfect, just pure and true. "
Tsuki's cheeks turned hot, thinking about Hiei. She found him attractive and liked talking to him, but was it love?
"What do you want, Tsuki?" Shizuru asked. "I know you want someone opposite of you, but have you dated guys around your age?"
Keiko laughed, shaking her head. "I tried to set her up with a couple of guys from our school, but she refused. Now understanding her powers, I can see why."
"I'm just a picky person." Tsuki wasn't desperate-lots of guys have asked her out, but they were simply unacceptable. She couldn't allow any guy to come barging into her life with assumptions and intentions. "And I don't believe in love at first sight. I believe in falling in love with the mind and soul. I have to understand him, and vice versa."
Shizuru nodded. "Understandable, he's has to be worth it, even with his imperfections. It's also important to find a boy who has the same morals as you. There's nothing worse than falling in love with a boy who pressures you to do things outside of your comfort zone," she included. "How about you, Yukina? Are you comfortable dating?"
Yukina twirled the strand of hair, blushing. "Well, I want to have an understanding boyfriend. But at the right time. Maybe I'll start dating when I find my brother."
"That's quite alright. You need to focus on your goals." Botan moved her body in the middle of the jacuzzi. "We can't let boys become the center of our worlds. The best lovers are the ones we find while chasing our dreams."
"Well, one of my dreams is to marry Yusuke," Keiko stated, her eyes expressing delight. "Definitely at the right time."
Tsuki squealed, picturing their perfect wedding. "It's going to be so cute. You guys deserve each other."
"And we'll be all there supporting you," Shizuru declared.
"Thank you," Keiko smiled warmly. "It's going to be great to be surrounded by friends and family."
The girls enjoyed their little paradise while the water jets massaged their bodies. After a while, Botan shot up.
"Should we go to the sauna, ladies? I'm ready to open my pores."
"I don't mind going," Yukina stated, arising.
Tsuki joined them. "Me too."
"You guys can go ahead first," Keiko stated, sinking lower in the water. "I'll stay here with Puu."
"I'll keep her company." Shizuru got in the jacuzzi beside Keiko. "I have to finish my cigarette."
Tsuki, Yukina, and Botan grabbed some wet towels and proceeded into the hot sauna.
Tsuki sat on top of the high bench, stretching her legs. "Yukina, how did you feel returning to your home village?"
"It was awkward at first. Most of the villagers only thought of me as an outsider, but Rui embraced me. She told me more information about my brother. And gave me my mother's healing book."
"Who's Rui?" Botan asked, rubbing the wet towel around her face.
"She's my caretaker. My mom died when I was a baby, but Rui said I have her sweet and open-minded personality." Yukina smiled. Tsuki spotted pain and gentleness in her eyes. "I guess she's right because I've always felt different growing up. And I also had the courage to leave that bitter cold land."
A deep frown appeared on Tsuki's face when she reflected on what Hiei told her about his dark childhood. She felt horrible, especially when she realized that Yukina had a miserable life too.
"Rui told me my brother is a strong fighter." Yukina clasped her hands with yearning eyes. "I hope I get to see him fight in this tournament. That'll be so cool to see."
Tsuki and Botan glanced at each other. If only Yukina knew.
"Would you mind teaching me your healing techniques?" Tsuki asked the ice maiden. "I'm attempting to find ways to advance my ability."
"No, not at all. Ask me anything. I'll do my best to help you. We can also do healing sessions together."
"You can visit the library in the Spirit World too," Botan suggested. "I'm sure Koenma would allow you to borrow some medicine books."
"Thanks, Botan. It'll be nice to visit again," Tsuki stated. "Oh, I do have a question, Yukina. Did you ever have any migraines from healing so much?"
"Well, yes. If we carry a lot of tension, our bodies go into flight mode," Yukina explained. "In this state, the spiritual energy decreases, and our healing stops. Since a lot of things were happening in the last round, your body safeguarded itself from possible danger and stress."
"No wonder my body felt so weak." Tsuki touched her moist forehead, running her fingers through her hair. "Thanks, Yukina."
"You're very welcome."
The sauna's temperature continued to rise. The girls laid on the benches to stretch out their bodies.
Tsuki breathed deeply, placing the wet towel on her forehead. When the rising heat became too much on the upper bench, she slid down to the lower one to get some relief.
The girls enjoy the sauna for 20 more minutes before Botan opened the door. The fresh air instantly cooled their bodies.
The grim reaper's face was red as a beet when they came out. "That was a good sweat."
"It's been a while since I enjoyed this type of heat." Yukina beamed, her skin rosy.
Tsuki felt light and clear-headed. She drank the cool mint-cucumber water, grateful as it chilled her throat.
Shizuru got up. "Keiko, let's go."
"Leave Puu here with me." Botan settled in the chair and relaxed her head. "I need to rest for a bit."
"Alright," Keiko placed Puu on Botan's lap. "We should be out soon."
"No rush." Botan lightly swatted her hand in the air. "Take your time."
"Yukina, do you want to go to the steam room?" Tsuki asked.
"Sure."
Tsuki opened the door. By the time she and Yukina perched down, the room started pumping steam in the air.
Yukina shifted her attention to Tsuki. "I heard you live in a big shrine. That's amazing. I would love to see it."
"Yes, please visit. I'm sure my grandpa would like to meet you."
The ice maiden frowned. "Doesn't your mother live with you too?" Her tone turned uncertain.
"My mother died when I was a kid," Tsuki replied with sadness in her voice. "She was killed by a demon protecting the kekkai barrier."
"I'm so sorry to hear that. It must have been awful." Yukina shared a pained glance. "Did you feel a certain way towards demons after that?"
"No, I was more hurt than anything. Besides, my grandfather told me not to judge someone based on appearance but their actions," Tsuki stated, thinking about her grandpa. She has always been very fond of him, but only realized in these last few days how dearly she loved him. "I'm grateful that he's still alive and watching over me."
Yukina smiled sweetly, showing her teeth. "And that's why I must find my brother. I feel like we need each other now more than anything."
Tsuki had the urge to spill everything to Yukina but stopped herself. It wasn't her place. Hiei had to take the next step. "I hope you find your brother too. He deserves to get to know you. And thank you for not hating all humans either. "
"I can't stereotype every human from one sick fool's mistake." Yukina stroked Tsuki's forearm, face filled with love. "I'm glad I met you and the rest of the group. You guys made this trip even better."
"You too, Yukina," Tsuki stated, appreciating her soft touch. "Your presence is needed here."
After the steam died down, Tsuki and Yukina decided to take a breather. Their skin had a healthy glow while exiting the room.
"Botan, do you want me to hold Puu?" Tsuki asked, grabbing her towel.
"Yes, if you may." Botan arose, giving Puu to her. She walked to the steam room. "I'll be back in 15."
Tsuki slipped off her sandals, running her bare feet over the smooth marble floor. Heaven.
Yukina smiled and filled a cup with water. She sat next to Tsuki, giving Puu his drink. "Here you go, Puu. I'm sure you're thirsty."
"Puu!"
"How's your egg, Tsuki?" Yukina asked. "Did it hatch yet?"
"My egg is well, just laying in my bed." The anticipation increased the priestess's pulse. "It should hatch very soon. Possibly today."
"Great, I can't wait to see the little critter."
Shizuru and Keiko stepped out of the sauna, their faces scarlet and sweaty.
"Sauna can be so intense," Shizuru huffed.
Keiko wiped her face with her towel. "Yeah, I can only do 30 mins of it."
They settled next to Yukina and Tsuki. After another 5 minutes, Botan exited out of the steam room, smiling brightly.
"That was amazing. Though I prefer the sauna." Botan grabbed another wet towel. "I have to get in again before we leave here."
After they enjoyed the spa facilities for a while longer, the girls took a shower and got dressed in the locker room. They talked about random things as they moisturized their skin and put on makeup.
Tsuki smiled as she checked herself in the mirror. With her skin vibrant, she looked good as new with her spirits high.
"So, ladies," Shizuru said while throwing on her lip gloss. "What are our plans for the rest of the day?"
"Let's have a nail party!" Keiko declared.
"And karaoke," Botan added, massaging her face with water cream. "But first, let's have lunch and grab some snacks."
"Great, I can do your hair, Yukina," Shizuru offered, touching her hair. "A bun will look fabulous on you."
Yukina's voice grew in excitement. "Yes, that sounds wonderful. Thanks, Shizuru."
Shizuru placed her arm around Tsuki's shoulder. "You too, Tsuki. My American friend I met at my salon school taught me a new style. You're going to look so cute tomorrow."
Tsuki smiled. "Thanks, Shizuru. I appreiate it." God, spending time with the girls feels wonderful. They made this hell better.
"Alright, almost done." Shizuru wrapped a red scarf over Tsuki's hair. After tying it into a bow, she gave Tsuki a small mirror. "That should do it. You look great. Check it out."
Tsuki turned her head, observing Shizuru's amazing work. Four small braids swirled midway on her scalp, white and red rubber bands securing the end. "Amazing."
"Wow, Shizuru." Yukina's eyes twinkled. With her pretty face and hair swirled in a high bun, she looked more like an angel than a demon. "You're a great hairstylist."
"Thank you." Shizuru smiled. "You can take the bun down if you want to sleep better tonight."
"Are you sure?" Yukina frowned. "You put a lot of effort into my hair."
"I'm sure. Plus the look on Kazuma's face is all the credit I need." Shizuru glanced at Tsuki. "I'm sure the wrap will keep the braids neat when you sleep."
"Ok, and thank you." Tsuki gave her a tight hug. She turned to Keiko, showing off the ruby two-piece outfit. "Thank you for the cotton pajamas, Keiko. It's very comfortable."
"No problem." Keiko winked at her. "I know you miss shopping. So I got you something nice."
"Now, it's time to see the boys." Botan turned off the television, twisting her body. "I'm sure they're dying of boredom."
"I hope Yusuke is back." Keiko cradled the sick Puu with a troubled look on her face. "I think he knows what to do with Puu."
Yukina touched Puu's forehead. "He's burning up. My healing powers didn't work either. Maybe he ate something bad?"
Tsuki glanced worriedly at Puu. She finally realized that Yusuke and Puu's souls were connected. Yusuke must be starting his test. "I'm sure Puu is going to be fine. Let's check on the guys."
The girls gathered their snacks and exited out of the room. They happily chatter while casually walking down the hall.
Tsuki thought about Hiei. Knowing him, he probably wanted to train today. However, due to the unexpected rain, he had no choice but to stay in.
The girls stood in front of room 521. Shizuru began to knock, but Botan stopped her.
"Let's surprise them," she winked. The grim reaper opened the door, raising her hand high. "Da da da! The girls have arrived!"
"Hey there, you guys!" Keiko greeted the boys.
Tsuki blushed as they entered. Hiei sat on the small window seat. He glanced at Yukina briefly before his eyes landed on her. She smiled, and he slowly returned the smile.
"You know you could have knocked, Botan." Kuwabara sat on the couch across from Kurama, mildly annoyed. "We're discussing important business here."
"I sleep here too, Kuwabara," Tsuki remarked.
Botan walked closer, peering at his playing cards "And how do you explain the cards in your hands?"
Kuwabara moved the cards away from her, narrowing his eyes. "Hey, hey. No peeking. We're playing a competitive game here."
Yukina approached him, smiling genuinely. "Has your back healed completely yet, Kazuma?"
"Hey, Yukina. Your hair looks gorgeous." Kuwabara's eyes lit up as he rose. A goofy smile crossed his lips. "And oh yeah, it was just a scratch. You want to play some cards with us?"
"Thanks," Yukina stated, blushing. "And I would love to."
Botan scowled, eyebrow twitching. "So much for Botan getting the attention."
"Don't worry," Shizuru rubbed Botan's head. "You'll get your prince charming someday."
Tsuki giggled and glanced at Kurama. "Did I miss anything important while I was gone?"
"Nothing to worry about too much. Just moving to a new stadium." Kurama studied her features and smiled. "I'm glad you're looking better. Your face was paler than usual."
Tsuki returned the smile, eyes filled with warmth. "I guess a spa day with the girls was all I needed."
Hiei watched them closely, his eyes blank and unreadable.
"Um," Keiko approached Kurama, glancing around. "Have you seen Yusuke?"
"He's still out with the masked fighter," Kurama replied, shrugging. "We're not sure where."
"Oh, I see." Keiko lowered her gaze. Tsuki could hear the disappointment in her voice. "I hope he's fine. Puu's been acting really funny. He doesn't even want to fly."
"Puu…" the spiritual beast groaned softly, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Tsuki gazed out the window. The sky pitched black as the rain poured heavily. I hope you're alright, Yusuke.
"Puu will be fine, girls." Botan touched Keiko and Tsuki's shoulders. "And whatever Yusuke is doing, I'm sure he could handle it. Let's just have some fun, okay?"
"Let's do it!" Kuwabara fist pump the air.
"That's right, baby brother." Shizuru patted his back. "It might be your last night of the living. Enjoy yourself. I won't tell mom if you drink your first beer."
"Gosh darn it, Shizuru," Kuwabara whined, slumping his shoulders. "You always gotta embarrass me in front of my friends."
"Ladies, you too." Shizuru took a seat next to Kurama, opening her kirin beer. "I won't tell if you take your first sip or two."
Tsuki laughed. She sat on the small sofa facing the window. "Too late, Shizuru. My mom already let me try sake. I'll wait until I'm officially legal."
"Your mom sounds cool." Shizuru smiled. "I would love to have met her."
"You would've loved her. She was a lot of fun to be around."
"Totally. I had a blast when we had slumber parties at your shrine." Keiko stated, sitting by Shizuru. "What are we playing anyway?"
"How about goldfish?" Kurama suggested. "It's a very easy game to follow."
"Nice," Botan perched next to Kuwabara, opening her asahi beer. "It's been ages since I played that one."
Yukina settled on the other side of Kuwabara, confusion appearing on her face. "I'm not familiar with this game."
Kuwabara grabbed her hand, staring firmly in her eyes. "Don't worry, my love. I'll show you how."
"I appreciate it," Yukina stated sweetly. "You're too kind."
Tsuki chuckled when Hiei's face grew dark. The idea of him and Kuwabara becoming brothers-in-law tickled her funny bone. Hiei had no qualms wearing an open look of hatred while studying Kuwabara and Yukina.
"We'll start with a fresh deck." Kurama shuffled the cards, passing them out. "Yukina, you can go first."
"After the dealer passes each player five cards, one of us has a turn to ask another player for a particular rank of card," Kuwabara explained to the ice maiden. "If they don't have it, the player that asked must go fish and pick a fresh card from the deck."
"Oh, alright." Yukina nodded, nibbling on her dried plums.
"Shizuru," Keiko stated, opening her bag of chips. "You want some seaweed chips?"
"Yes, please."
Tsuki chewed on her strawberry pocky stick. After Kurama dealt out the set, she grabbed her cards and smiled. Three 7's, one ace and king.
"Ha!" Kuwabara quickly placed a stack down on the table. He grabbed four more cards. "Luck is on my side on this five-card draw. Yukina, ask anyone. All you need to do is match your cards with the same rank."
"Botan, do you have a 9?"
"I sure do."
"See? Easy," Kuwabara stated while Botan passed Yukina her card. "You're already getting the hang of it. Shizuru, do you have a 2?"
"No loser." Shizuru stuck her tongue out. "Go fish."
"Kurama," Botan began. "Do you have a 5?"
"Nope, go fish." While the grim reaper drew a card, Kurama glanced mischievously at Hiei. "Come, Hiei. Join the fun. We're practically a family here."
"Kurama," venom dripped off Hiei's words. "Don't make me pull out your precious voice box."
The girls' appeared shocked, mouth agape. Kurama delightfully chuckled.
"Girls, don't mind shorty," Kuwabara remarked, eating some wasabi beef chips. "He's been in a foul mood ever since we left the stadium. Probably just mad he can't train as usual. What a boring guy."
"Idiot," Hiei growled, rising. He gripped the hilt of his sword. "Should I slit your throat to make you shu-"
"Hiei," Tsuki's gentle voice cut him off. She stared firmly at his eyes. "If you want to play, you can sit next to me."
Their eyes locked in a shared understanding. Everyone watched in silence, anticipating Hiei's next move.
Hiei sighed, releasing his grip. He sat back down. "No, thanks." Hiei crossed his arms, gazing at the window. "I'll just watch."
"Interesting," a glint of amusement sparked in Kurama's eyes. "I believe it's your turn, Tsuki."
Tsuki nodded, squinting her eyes at Kuwabara. "Do you have a 7, Kuwabara?"
Kuwabara groaned, giving her his card. "How did you know that?"
"Lucky guess," Tsuki stated happily, placing her first stack down. "Shizuru, do you have an ace?"
"Nope, go fish."
Tsuki picked up three cards. She almost dropped them while catching her breath. Hiei's piercing stare had her frozen.
Hiei doesn't look away. He gazed at her long and hard, his expression intent.
Tsuki's face burned. She broke contact, her eyes falling to the new cards: a 10 and, hearts-king and queen.
Keiko glanced at her. "Tsuki, do you have a jack?"
"Nope," Tsuki stated, her voice and face calm, despite her intense feelings. "Go fish."
During Shizuru's turn, Tsuki sipped her mugicha tea, focusing her full attention on Hiei. The fire demon was quiet and distant, but he also had the dedication and intensity that she never saw in any other person. And Tsuki wanted him to stare at her.
Hiei's presence radiated the same flirtatiousness she had. They didn't look away from each other, not even when Keiko glanced at both of them.
Tsuki blushed, remembering her passionate dream. She wondered how Hiei was as a lover. What it'd be like for him to really touch her and-
"Tsuki," Botan stated, breaking Tsuki from her trance of thought. Curiosity flared in her eyes. "May I have some of your pocky sticks?"
"Sure." A swirl of emotions played in Tsuki's chest. But in a great show of self-control, she smiled and shared her snack.
"Yukina," Kurama stated while eyeing Hiei. "Do you have a 6?"
"Yes," Yukina answered after drinking her aloe juice. She gave Kurama her card. "This game is pretty fun."
"Yep, and there are other card games to play. Like old maid or snap," Kuwabara stated. "We should play those next after I beat ya'll."
"Cocky are we?" Shizuru gulped her beer. She placed the empty can on the floor and opened her second one. "You won't be saying that after I beat you. You know how competitive I can get when I drink."
"Keiko," Tsuki spoke gently. "May I get some chips?"
"Yep, I also have hi-chews if you want some."
While Tsuki nibbled, Hiei stared back into her eyes in a way that made warmth build between them. The longer he held her gaze, the more the feeling increased.
The group engulfed her. And Tsuki found herself laughing and talking. Occasionally her eyes rebounded in Hiei's direction. When their eyes locked, she smiled sweetly. A feeling of peace settled over her.
After two rounds of go fish, Hiei slowly arose.
"Heading to bed, Hiei?" Kurama asked, grinning. "It's still a bit early."
Kuwabara laughed loudly. "You're so antisocial, Hiei. We just fought two rounds yesterday. It's okay to have fun. Plus Team Uraotogi is garbage."
"Don't get too cocky, fool." Hiei glared at Kuwabara. "I don't want to hear your big, idiotic mouth when you're in the ring."
Tsuki's heart hammered in her chest. "Good night, Hiei." The heat spread across every visible part of her face.
Hiei's eyes darted to Tsuki, the faintest glimmer of longing in them. His lips quirked into a small smile. "Night, Tsuki."
Tsuki watched him admiringly disappear in the hallway. It was more than just attraction she was feeling. There was something about Hiei that captivated her, commanded her attention, and seduced her whole being.
After a few more card games, Tsuki, Kurama, and Kuwabara decided to head to bed.
"Goodnight, ladies." Kurama smiled and waved, proceeding to his room. "Enjoy the rest of your night."
"Goodnight!" Botan stated, slurping her 3rd beer. "Have sweet dreams!"
Shizuru chugged her 4th beer. "Don't worry! We'll wake up bright and early to see you win!"
Yukina's face brightened. "Night, Kazuma."
"Good night, my princess." Kuwabara bowed to her. "Please cheer for me tomorrow."
"Of course," Yukina smiled at the prince charming. "I'm here to support you."
Kuwabara's face reddened, his eyes dazed as he walked to his room.
Tsuki giggled and rubbed Puu's hair while he slept. "Goodnight, Puu. I hope you feel better tomorrow."
"I'll keep an eye on him," Keiko stated before whispering in Tsuki's ear. "We need to talk soon."
Tsuki's face turned scarlet while embracing her friend. She didn't need to ask her why. "We will and night, Keiko."
Keiko's voice took on a teasing tone. "Night, Tsuki."
Tsuki hugged Shizuru. "Have a great night. Thank you for all the relationship advice."
"No worries." Shizuru squeezed her tightly. "That's what friends are for. And I see you're following my advice suitably."
"Sleep well." Botan embraced Tsuki, rubbing her back. "You can always talk to me too. I'm here for you."
Tsuki gave her a loving look. ""I know. And I'm grateful, Botan." She beamed while hugging Yukina. "Have a lovely night."
"You too," Yukina stated with a wide smile. "Rest well. I'm sure you'll do great tomorrow."
Tsuki went into the bathroom, brushing her teeth and washing her face. She tightened the wrap and proceeded to her room.
"Huh?" Tsuki's eyebrows rose when she heard a loud bang. She quickly entered. "What's going on here?"
A small creature flew back and forth, causing her to jump.
"Unbelievable," Tsuki closed the door, her head following its erratic movements.
The lively creature frisked all over the floor. It gracefully landed back on her bed, panting.
Tsuki smiled warmly, approaching her spiritual beast. It was a small lion puppy.
"Iku!" He smiled brightly with his tongue sticking out. His coat was reddish-orange, tinged in white.
Tsuki's eyes sparkled as she picked him up. She stared into his sky blue eyes, falling in love instantly. "You're so cute! Hello, Iku!"
Iku eagerly fawned on her, wagging his furry tail. He barked and wiggled out of her hands, jumping up and down.
"Wow, you're very hyper." Tsuki's eyes blinked rapidly while he rolled all over her bed. "I would take you out now, but it's raining. In the morning I'll walk you. I promise."
"Iku!" He barked and nestled into the duvet cover.
Tsuki threw the cracked shells in the trash and turned off the light. She climbed into bed, placing her head into the pillow.
Iku snuggled against Tsuki, closing his eyes. A special, tight bond had forged between them.
Tsuki rubbed his head while she drifted to sleep. Iku's warmth and love was all around her.
