"Tsuki…" a deadly voice whispered. "You've...been...a...naughty...girl…"

Tsuki tossed and turned. A strange awareness swept over her, intensifying with every passing second. It felt like she was being watched.

"Open...your...eyes…Tsuki…" The coldness in its tone chilled Tsuki to her very soul. "Come...into...the...darkness…"

Tsuki's eyes snapped open. Unease blossomed in her stomach. Scanning the room, she expected to find someone standing nearby.

"Iku?" Tsuki turned on the lamplight. He wasn't by her side. Nor under the duvet cover. She stood up, panic rising. "Where are you?"

Tsuki's body jerked when her eyes darted to the other bed. Master Genkai laid there with her eyes wide open.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Genkai-sensei. I didn't mean to wake you." When she didn't respond, the knot squeezed in Tsuki's gut. "Genkai?"

No light in Genkai's calm eyes. Her skin was pale to the point of being near blue. Blood dripped off the bed and onto the floor, creating a small puddle.

The priestess gulped, slowly lifting the duvet cover. "Are you alright, Genkai-sAHHHH!" Tsuki's nervous look turned to one of terror. Genkai's throat had been ripped out.

"Somebody, help!" Tsuki dashed out of the room with her eyes swelling. She banged on the demons' door. "Hiei! Kurama! Genkai is dead! I-"

Tsuki's spine stiffened when their bedroom door became slightly ajar. It was too quiet. Her teammates would've heard her scream a mile away.

She pushed the door wider. "Hiei?...Kurama?..." Her shaky fingers turned on the light.

Everything tilted. Tsuki couldn't breathe for a moment. The inside of Hiei and Kurama's throat looked pink and jellylike. Nausea built up in her stomach, but she forced herself to keep looking. Two red holes, in place of their eyes, glared up into the ceiling. Blood splattered against the walls, running down in thin rivulets.

"Oh god," Tsuki's heart sank, when she realized her bracelet was missing. "I'm in Kana's nightmare."

Tsuki ran. An overhead lightbulb filtered pale light down through the dark hallway. She couldn't bear going into Yusuke and Kuwabara's room.

"The girls!" The scent of metal Tsuki's nose when she turned the corner. "Please, no. I can't dea-NOOOOOOO!" She screamed while tears streamed down her cheeks. There was a sudden pain in her chest that felt as if someone had shoved a knife through her. Bodies and blood everywhere.

Tsuki stared at the girls, her face turning paler. The scale of the death around her suddenly registered, and her heart began pounding. She didn't want to look anymore, but seemed unable to drag her eyes away from the horrific scene.

The girls' eyes stared upward, glazed over with a shocked look like they couldn't believe this was happening. Shizuru lay on her back in front of the couch. Botan, only a couple of feet away with blood staining the carpet around her. Yukina slumped beside the couch. Across the room rested Keiko's bloody body.

"You sick and twisted bitch." Tsuki steady her breath, trying to calm the panic. "They had nothing to do with this."

Total darkness consumed her, except for faint flashes of light that turned the familiar things in the room eerie.

"Hahahaha...you poor...little...girl...," a low voice spoke. "Don't be...afraid of...the...dark..."

Tsuki gasped, feeling an evil presence over her. Her instincts screamed to run, but she glanced back. She was now on a collision course with pure evil.

A devil-horn creature with bloodthirsty eyes crept from behind. It had sharp claws at the end of their fingers.

Tsuki didn't have time to scream. She turned to the door, fright flying through her at the feral look he gave.

"I'll swallow your soul!"

"Ahhh!" The claws tore into Tsuki's skin, causing cuts she was too preoccupied to feel. She flung the door open and sprinted.

Tsuki's body went on auto-pilot. Lost in the quiet hotel, she had no idea where to go. The demon calmly walked after her like a predator toying with its prey.

She pushed through the emergency exit. Her barefeet padded downstairs. Tsuki appeared hopeful when she discovered another door.

"Damn it!" Typical for the door to be locked. Her body tensed when she heard the devil's laugh.

"Accept your fate, priestess! There's no escape!"

Tsuki flew and flew. Each door shut tight. She banged and kicked on the window. The handle. The frame. With no way out, the sudden anxiety consumed her.

"If only I had my powers!" She sobbed, covering her face. The pain of loneliness and fear felt even greater than the agony of her battered body. And soon, the darkness will consume her.

"Give me your soul, priestess!" The beast's voice echoed. "I want your soul!"

Tsuki's heart hammered in her ears, listening to the click of feet drawing nearer and nearer and nearer. And then...silence...

She waited a few moments. Nothing happened. Tsuki carefully peeked upstairs. Nothing. She frantically glanced around. Still no sign of the devil.

"Got you!" The devil passed through the wall and grabbed Tsuki's neck. Its eyes stared with pleasure, choking the air from her lungs.

"Ack!" the grip on Tsuki's neck tightened, forcing a harsh breath out of her. She struggled and swung at its face, but the devil only squeezed tighter.

Tsuki's head spun while trying to gasp for air. The beast holding her captive took control of her entire being. She clawed her fingers at its hands uselessly. Her heart, once quickly beating, was now slowing in temp.

"Hahahaha...you're...mine...your...soul...is...tainted...," the devil's voice became feminine and sadistic. "Welcome...to...the...darkness…."

"Grandfather...mom...I'm...sorry…" Tsuki's breath caught as her chest squeezed, and it wasn't just pain doing that. It was something lighter, something warmer.

And then…pure light. It had appeared inside her chest, spreading and becoming piercing by the second.

"AUGH!" The devil released its grip, claws sizzling. "What?!" It aimed for Tsuki's heart.

"RAWR!" A roar of a lion pushed the devil back, launching it against the wall. The body hit it hard, making a chill-cracking sound. The creature dropped to the ground and stopped moving.

Tsuki grabbed her neck and kneeled, desperately sucking in the fresh air. Her vision went blurry. Blood thundered in her ears.

Light continued to spread, burning the demon into ashes. Tsuki's body went through it while she lowered herself to the floor. She felt only a warm glow, no hotter than bathwater.

Tsuki held back a scream as her body jerked up. She touched her neck, gasping for air. It took a while for her breath to get even. Looking around, expecting someone to pounce on her didn't help the process. She dropped her hands and finally relaxed her shoulders.

"Iku…" the puppy nudged Tsuki with his nose. His dreamy blue eyes gaze up at her.

Tsuki beamed, hugging Iku tightly while he licked her face. "You have no idea how glad I am to see you safe." Realization washed over her in alternating waves of pain and numbness. The light in her dream had simply appeared when Tsuki had needed it. "And you saved me. Thank you, Iku."

Iku shivered. Tsuki grimaced when she felt his high beating heart. "Ik-ahhh," she winced and placed Iku back on the pillow. The worst pain of her life shot through her body. When she started to move from the bed, her world began spinning.

Fighting the nauseating dizziness, Tsuki glanced at the mirror, noticing a darkening bruise on her neck. She turned and frowned. The demon ripped through the fabric and sliced her back. Blood stained the bed sheets.

The time was 5:45. If Tsuki hurried, no suspicion wouldn't be raised. With Master Genkai and Yusuke still gone, she needed to step up and do her part.

Gritting her teeth, Tsuki grabbed her clothes and towel. She glanced at her puppy, slipping on house slippers. "Iku, stay here. I have to clean myself."

"Iku…" he barked, placing his head back onto the pillow.

When she retreated to the bathroom, Tsuki flipped on the light and took off her pajamas. She cringed but forced herself to stare in the mirror. Four claw marks across her back. The cuts weren't too deep but needed to be treated quickly.

Oh, she felt weak in both body and mind. The cut stung horribly, yet Tsuki was able to focus on the physical pain and distract herself from the mental anguish. As the bathwater ran, she placed her hair in a high bun and brushed her teeth.

For a while, Tsuki just listened to the sound of her own breathing as she sat in. Exhaustion made it swirl. This, she realized, was what real depression felt like. What madness felt like.

I thought I was going to die. That crazy witch really tried to kill me.

Deep sobs racked Tsuki's body. She forced her eyes open, even though she wanted to close them. For a brief second, Tsuki prayed softly to the gods. "Please give me the strength to make it through this day. My heart needs comfort."

Tsuki sank lower with aura glowing, allowing the water to heal her body. The muscles aches and bruises disappeared. A tingle burned her back, laced with a sort of pleasant buzz, and then the wounds closed up until they were only scars. She'll heal that later.

With a mint-scented bar of soap, Tsuki cleaned her body and dried up with the towel. She soothed herself while hastily getting dressed, making sure not to leave any trace of evidence. "I'll be alright. I'll be alright."

Iku's ears perked when she came back into the room. Tsuki patted his head and fixed herself up. Her eyes were dark and sunken, but she appeared decent. And her braids were still intact when she put her hair in a low ponytail.

After throwing on her boots, Tsuki picked Iku up. "Let's go." She needed to get out of this room. For the first time since Kana began her sick games, Tsuki felt genuine paranoia trickling through her.

She jumped a little when heard a soft knock. Tsuki took a deep breath before opening the door. Her heart skipped when she spotted Hiei. Kurama stood next to him, smiling.

"Good morning, Tsuki," Kurama greeted. "I hope we're not interrupting. Would you accompany us to eat breakfast downstairs?"

Hiei watched Tsuki silently, waiting for her answer.

Tsuki gave them a weak smile. Her voice came out as a croak. "Sure, that'll be nice."

Hiei and Kurama frowned, immediately noticing the shift in her feelings.

Kurama's eyebrows furrowed. "Is something the matter? You don't look so well." He sniffed the air. "I smell fresh blood too."

Hiei studied her closely, suspicion all over him.

Tsuki took a deep breath. Damn these demons and their high senses. She forced herself to look at them with watery eyes that were trying their best not to overflow. "I had a horrible nightmare. Kana attacked me in my sleep."

"What?" Hiei scowled. He exchanged uneasy looks with Kurama.

Tsuki's body trembled as she continued to fight back tears. Iku licked her face. "I woke up to find everyone slaughtered to death. A creature attacked me. and I was defenseless without my powers. It grabbed my neck and-"

Kurama engulfed her into a tight embrace. His long hair fell upon her back. "That's enough. We didn't mean for you to relive it."

That and Hiei's longing look did it. Tears coursed down Tsuki's cheeks. She quickly wiped them away, trying her best to regain her composure. "I'm okay, guys. I survived. Let's just go to this satanic tournament," she stated, closing the door.

"Yes, I'm sure you need some food after that horrible ordeal." Kurama stared at her puppy. "Is this your spiritual animal? He's stunning. Lovely color. What's his name?"

Tsuki scratched Iku behind the ear. "Iku...If it wasn't for him…I would've died."

Kurama and Hiei glanced at each other again. This time anger showed in their faces.

Hiei snarled, heading towards Yusuke and Kuwabara's room. "I'll wake up the fool. We'll meet you downstairs."

"Yes. Come, Tsuki. There's no more time to waste." Kurama's face hardened. "The round will be starting soon."

Tsuki sighed in relief when they stepped into the living room. Botan and Keiko slept on the couches while Shizuru snoozed on the floor. Tsuki guessed Yukina must be sleeping in her bed.

Puu cuddled next to Keiko. Tsuki rubbed his hair and forehead while sweat poured down his face. Hopefully, Yusuke will be able to pass the test today.

Kurama rested a hand on her shoulder. "They'll be alright. Let them rest. We need to focus on ourselves at the moment."

Tsuki nodded. While Kurama opened the door, she glanced at the girls one more time before leaving the room.

"Did the masked fighter tell you anything?" Kurama asked as they entered the elevator. "I didn't expect them to be gone so long, especially since the semi-finals are happening today."

"No," Tsuki shook her head. She lowered her gaze when Kurama observed her closely. "She only told me they were training."

"I see." Kurama squinted his eyes but didn't press the issue. He allowed her to exit the elevator first. "Whatever causing their delay must be extremely important. We simply have to work around it."

The dining area had a morning rush, but they were able to find a round table next to the grand piano. A musician played a sweet and smooth tune while a singer sang softly. Some rich people watched Tsuki and Kurama with blatant curiosity.

Kurama and Tsuki seated themselves across from each other. On the round table were plates, silverware, fresh biscuits, and fruits.

Tsuki placed Iku on her lap. She grabbed an apple and sliced small pieces for him.

"I guess people are excited about the semi-finals."

"Yes, and this will be our only chance to see Team Toguro before the finals. I'm curious to see how the rest of the members fight."

"Me too. Have you seen the stadium?"

"No, but I've heard the committee spent millions to build it. It's supposed to be their main attraction for the Dark Tournament."

"Speaking of the committee, did you know Sakyo from the Black Black Club is here? Shizuru and the rest of the girls spotted him with Younger Toguro."

"I'm not surprised. It turns out Butajiri from the Black Black Club sponsored Team Mashōtsukai. Gondawara also sponsored Team Rokuyukai. And I'm assuming Sakyo is sponsoring the Toguro Team." Kurama rubbed his chin in thought. "We definitely have a lot of enemies from high places."

A waiter eagerly approached them, placing napkins on the table. "Good morning, today's special is umaki eel rolled omelet with broccoli and sesame brown rice. The carts should be arriving shortly."

Tsuki beamed when he poured two glasses of water. "Would it be possible to get plain rice and salmon for my puppy?"

"Of course, miss." The waiter respectfully bowed. "I'll make sure to get a bowl for his water as well."

"Thank you," Tsuki stated before he left.

"Here's Kuwabara." Kurama grinned, eyes glistening. "Seems he's not too happy about waking up from his sleep."

Seeing Kuwabara's annoyed face, Tsuki couldn't resist giving him a smile. His thick hair was unkempt, and his clothes a bit wrinkled.

"Jeez, I can't believe the chin-wa had the audacity to wake me up and bark orders. Luckily I took a shower yesterday, but still. A man needs to look good. Now, where is he?" Kuwabara moved his head around. "He just disappeared after he told me where ya'll was at."

Tsuki's eyes wandered too. She couldn't spot the fire demon anywhere.

Kurama folded his arms. "Hiei will come. He knows how serious this is. I believe the masked fighter and Yusuke won't be fighting in this round." He glanced at Tsuki before focusing his attention on Kuwabara. "They're still dealing with important business."

Kuwabara combed his hair, sitting next to the fox demon. "We'll be okay. As second in command, it's my duty to lead this team into victory. Hopefully, Yukina and the girls will wake up on time. I want to show off my awesome moves."

"I'm sure they will," Kurama replied.

Tsuki sipped her water, finishing the cup quickly. Her face brightened when the waiters came with carts filled with refreshments and food.

Kuwabara munched on a biscuit, eyeing Tsuki's spiritual beast. "Since when did you have a puppy, Tsuki?"

"Since last night. His name is Iku." She placed Iku on the floor. Tsuki thanked the waiter when he placed his food and water bowl down. Iku thanked him with a bark. "He came at the right time."

"Cool, he's got a nice coat." Kuwabara's mouth watered as the waiter placed his food on the table. Before grabbing his chopsticks, he glanced up and glowered. "Oh, here's shrimpie now."

"Tsuki, here." Hiei's voice was like silk to her skin. Gentle and rich. "Drink this."

Turning her head, Tsuki met Hiei's eyes as he presented her with a teacup. He sat next to her and nodded when the waiter offered him coffee.

The floral and earthy scent tickled her nose. This tea smells so good. Tsuki sipped. The very first taste of the mellow, honey-like sweetness felt wonderfully soothing to her body. She smiled, gazing at Hiei lovingly. "Thanks."

Hiei studied her for a moment and then nodded. "Just relax."

"My, my," Kurama smiled after pouring cream into his coffee. "I never knew you had a sweet side, Hiei."

"Quiet, fox." The fire demon sipped his cup with his eyes still on Tsuki.

Kuwabara stared at Tsuki and Hiei with a puzzled look. "I don't know what's going on, but I feel like you guys are taking this whole team member missing way too seriously. So what if they're not here? It's still 4 against 5. We can take Team Uraotogi."

"Kuwabara," Tsuki began after placing her tea down. She grabbed a strawberry and took a bite. "I know we're strong, but the Dark Tournament is dirty. We need to be cautious."

"Yes, the idea of mercy has never been a part of the tournament," Kurama included. "Meaning any tactic to defeat the opponent goes."

"But Team Uraotogi isn't Team Toguro," Kuwabara retorted. "Those losers act tough, but they're just all talk. Especially the pretty boy."

Hiei pressed his lips. "Buffoon, you don't have a clue. The fool and his team may be arrogant, but they hid their abilities well."

Leaning forward, Kurama rested his chin in his hands. "And it seems they're hiding their powers for a reason. Shishiwakamaru said they wanted a good fight before the finals."

More eyes turned on them. Tsuki grumbled, uncomfortable with the rich uncanny stares and grins.

"Well, I feel like a celebrity," Kuwabara stated, drinking his orange juice. "They know we're tough opponents."

"It's rare for a special guest to make it this far. I believe Toguro's team was the last guest to win," Kurama replied.

"I don't care about any of that. I just want to fight," Hiei's voice had an annoying edge. "If the committee stops me again, I'll slaughter them myself."

They continued with their breakfast. Tsuki ate her plate, a nibble at a time. Every once in a while, she caught Hiei watching her.

Once finished, Tsuki took a bathroom break. She met Iku and the guys by the hotel entrance. They stood ready to start their journey.

Cold air greeted them as they stepped outside. The rain was over, but drops were still falling from the trees. Tsuki's heart kicked up at the familiar rich, damp, soil and the sweet scent of daphnes. But the sky, why was it so dark and sunless?

"At least it's not raining outside," Kurama spoke. "It was a hassle walking yesterday. I'm surprised we didn't get sick."

"Hehehe, I can't wait to see the new stadium." Kuwabara took a few steps but stopped, scratching his head. "Uhhh, do you guys know where to go?"

"You're completely useless," Hiei stated flatly, without emotion, but a muscle ticked in one side of his jaw. "Can't you remember simple directions, fool?"

Tsuki stayed quiet while standing next to Kurama. She didn't know where to go either.

"Yes, I do! Stop patronizing me, small-fry!" Kuwabara moved his head and walked in a random direction. "It's this way!"

"I believe it's this way, Kuwabara." Kurama pointed to the right. "The new path is connected to the main trail."

"I knew that. I was just testing ya." Kuwabara patted Kurama's back and marched forward. "Let's go!"

They walked quietly for a while. This time following the main trail before dipping off onto a narrower trail. Eventually, Kurama waved them toward another small trail up a hill, entering another part of the dense forest.

Iku bounded alongside Tsuki, sniffing and doing his own exploring. "Iku!" He barked happily, lifting his leg to do his business on a tree.

"Are we there yet?" Kuwabara asked anxiously. "I didn't realize the stadium would be this far."

"Not yet. Just a few more miles," Kurama replied. "It's on the opposite side of the island."

Kuwabara sighed, slumping his shoulders. "I wish Yukina was here by my side. She'll make this hiking trip better."

"Quit your whining," Hiei spoke with a fixed glare. "Your thoughtless brain needs to focus on the round. Though I doubt you improved. You got lucky with the last match."

"Bite me, shrimp!" Kuwabara fumed. "You're just mad because nobody wants you!"

Tsuki stopped for a moment and stared absentmindedly. She rubbed her arms as the wind swept over them, chilling her spirit. With every mile they traveled closer to the stadium, the dark energy increased.

"Iku…" Iku nudged her leg with his head and whimpered.

"I'm fine, Iku." Tsuki touched her throbbing forehead, her steps slowing down. "I just need to get out of my head."

More ominous clouds drifted across the sky. Tsuki walked behind the guys, trying to relax and sort out the emotions coming to her. Far back in her mind, she sensed a knot of dark, uneasy feelings.

You're going to die…You're not worthy to live...

And just like that, a million thoughts came slamming into Tsuki's head. Suddenly everything just seemed...off. A sickening sort of feeling seized her. Blood and death flashed through her thoughts. It became difficult to breathe.

Tsuki's heart raced as her chest became tight. Time seemed to stand still. Anxiety and fear continued to hum through her while she lost control. No matter how hard she tried to fight it, Tsuki just couldn't quite enjoy herself today. Her ears only started to process sounds when she heard Hiei say her name.

"Are you still with us?" his soft voice intruded, ending the spiral of panic. "We don't need you drifting too far away."

Sucking in a shallow breath, Tsuki's legs moved faster. "Yes..." Too lost in her own grief, she hadn't noticed him appear next to her. "I'm still here."

Hiei kept pace with Tsuki while Kurama and Kuwabara led upfront. His gaze never left her face.

"You don't have to walk with me, Hiei." The words themselves weren't bad, but Tsuki still sounded a little defensive. "I just need to breathe. That's all."

"It's okay, you know?"

"What is?"

"Everything that you're feeling." Hiei's eyes looked deep into hers. He continued to speak in a calm voice. "You don't have to pretend with me."

Tsuki broke contact and focused her attention straight ahead. "I-I'm okay. Being alone will help sort out my feelings."

Hiei watched her with the same, studious expression. "You're a horrible liar. And a stubborn girl."

"And you're not?" Tsuki stopped dead in her tracks. A flicker of both longing and annoyance sparked within her. "Hiei, you can be very stubborn and tenacious when you want to be."

A smile crept across his lips. "At least you have some fire in you. I thought you were going to act like a zombie this whole time. Wouldn't want the doctors to take you to an asylum."

"You're such a jerk. And your smartass comment wasn't needed."

"I may be a jerk and blunt, but I'm not hiding who I am. Apparently, you are." Hiei's voice still sounded firm, but there was a gentleness there too. "This isn't like you at all."

"What are they arguing about?" Kuwabara glanced back with curiosity and seriousness. "Is the shrimp harassing her?"

"Just ignore it." Kurama lightly pushed Kuwabara away while Iku walked beside them. "Let them have their moment."

Tsuki's gaze hardened. The intensity in those crimson depths held her captive. Hiei's words triggered something inside. She didn't get how he could have such a powerful effect on her. "Why do you even care?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Hiei asked, sounding unbelievably sincere. "We're allies, aren't we?"

"You don't understand my feelings. My soul is being tortured and I feel trapped."

"I bet I understand you and your feelings better than most," the tough, aloof warrior she knew was gone - just for a moment - and he actually looked truly concerned. "I know you're compassionate. I know you're highly sensitive and get nervous when you're in unfamiliar situations. And you know how to fight well."

Heat crept into Tsuki's cheeks while she shook her head. Before this moment, she never cared so much about what one person thought. "Those things are just traits."

"Believe me. I see your pain. But I also see your strength and courage to deal with this madness. You have a beautiful soul, Tsuki. Don't let the vile witch and this filthy place diminish it."

A sudden fierceness flashed across Tsuki's face. Thinking about Kana darkened her mood. The built-up anger within her felt like a storm, and it scared the hell out of her. "I'm just tired of this. I miss my grandpa. I miss my shrine. I keep telling myself everything is fine, but each day I get closer to just breaking apart." Tears burned her throat, and she hated this glaring weakness. The nightmare had made her feel powerless, and she didn't like that. "Sometimes I feel so alone."

Hiei watched her outburst calmly, with no change in his expression. When she finished, he simply responded. "But you're not alone. You once told me there are people here that'll help me face my darkness. Let me help you face yours."

Tsuki stared at Hiei, truly seeing how much he worried and cared about her. Feeling his eyes on her like that made her heart flutter.

"Besides, I feel much more at ease when I'm in the darkness." A sly smile crossed Hiei's lip, his eyes wide and wild. "Living dangerously keeps me alive. Let's lose our minds and go absolutely crazy."

"You're insane, Hiei." Tsuki giggled and sighed. A sweet smile spread across her lips as her eyes twinkled. "But I can truly be myself around you."

"There's that smile." Hiei patted her head. "You have a kind face, Tsuki. It reminds me of my sister. And I mean that in the very best way."

Tsuki gasped, taken off guard by the passion that enveloped her. The warmth of his hand was a pleasant shock too. Her body instantly heated from his touch.

Desire burned bright and hot in his crimson eyes. Hiei leaned forward and whispered softly in her ear. "Your braids look really nice."

Tsuki's heart pounded, and her skin flushed. The space between them seemed to shrink as she held his fiery stare. Hiei clearly wanted to do more but restrained himself.

The distant beat of a helicopter's wings drew. Tsuki's eyes swiveled up. Multiple helicopters flew over them, heading straight to the stadium.

"Wow," Kuwabara stated. "I haven't seen a bunch of helicopters here before."

Kurama turned his attention to a cluster of bushes. "I'm detecting more movements. The stadium should be near."

Tsuki and Hiei walked alongside them. They heard more shouts, stepping out of the way as a bunch of demons came tearing through the trail. Excitement and anticipation appeared on their faces.

"Idiots," Hiei bared his teeth.

"We're definitely getting closer," Kurama said softly. "There's more coming straight ahead."

Terror rose in Tsuki's eyes. The energy grew sinister and hollow as they joined another main trail filled with demons.

"Insane," Kuwabara's gaze took in the crowd. "You're right, Kurama. It's a bigger crowd than before."

"Iku…" Iku's body shook. He stood close by Tsuki's side.

"I know. Too much energy." Tsuki quickly picked him up and sighed. "I'm feeling awful already."

The demons gave them some space to walk, but Tsuki still felt uneasy. She did her best not to cower under their disgusted looks.

"Look at the low-class demons and their ugly human slaves!"

"What a disgrace! They'll all rot in hell!"

They hadn't traveled far down the trail before Tsuki got a peripheral view of the stadium. Her breath quickened, stifling a whimper.

"What the heck?" Kuwabara's head jerked back. "That's what we're fighting in? Spooky."

"Hmph," Hiei said, looking at it in disinterest. "I've seen better."

No, a surge of restless energy poured back through Tsuki, drumming up the residual fear and panic. I'm in the pits of hell. Her anxiety picked up in intensity as they headed straight into the devil's playground.

The crowd grew and grew while they trudged up the hill to the stadium. Helicopters from earlier have already landed, revealing the wealthy and powerful. They laughed wickedly as they entered the dark place.

The stadium resembled an enormous demon tarantula. Fans eagerly posed and took pictures. Tsuki's nose crinkled, taking in the stench of old beer and stale urine. The noise kept getting louder and louder as other fans arrived.

"Get your tickets! I only have five left!" a street-seller demon shouted. "Come on! What are you waiting for?! I have the best seats on the island!"

Fans surrounded a large screen displayed on the building. Koto appeared, standing proudly on a table.

"Good morning, you disturbed and unstable fans!" The crowd's sudden roar made Tsuki flinch. "We're just 20 minutes away from the semi-finals! Perfect time to reflect and pray for your sins! So grab your food and alcohol cuz it's about to be a killer showdown!"

Tsuki started to panic while Iku stirred. She needed air and space. They happened to be standing in a place that felt sinister, claustrophobic, and not forgetting, chilly.

"Fighters! Proceed to section 3!" A worker announced. "Fighters to section 3!"

"That's us!" Kuwabara strolled ahead, passing through another larger crowd. "Hurry, team!"

Tsuki sucked in another breath and another. The atmosphere became more frenetic. How was it she was breathing, but the air felt empty of oxygen? Too many people here taking up the air.

Without a word, Hiei took her wrist and led her through the crowd at a steady pace. The demons hissed but back away from his deadly presence.

Thanks, Hiei. The skin on his fingers electrified her when he clutched tighter. Tsuki's lightheadedness faded slowly while her other hand held Iku tightly.

Hiei released his grip and stood next to her by the checkpoint. The security guards grunted and allowed them to pass. After Kuwabara and Kurama entered the building, he placed his hand on Tsuki's back to urge her forward.

Tsuki and Iku's heart rate increased while they sweated. For the first time ever, she understood the essence of darkness-heavy, oppressive, almost supernatural. A few recessed lights lit up the otherwise darkened hallway.

A security guard showed them to their locker room. Kurama left for only a few minutes, coming back with a water bottle. "Here, Tsuki."

Tsuki drank. The cold liquid soothed her tight throat, calming her rapid breathing. She gave Kurama a grateful look. "Thanks."

"How are you feeling now?"

"Better," she answered, rubbing Iku's head. Hiei watched her from the corner. "I'm just getting used to this dark energy."

"Understandable. There's no sunlight, and it's undeniably hot here, but we'll be fine."

Kuwabara lifted Tsuki and gave her a tight hug. "Cheer up, girl. As a man, I must protect the ones I care about."

Tsuki smiled. "I know. You're becoming a better man each day." After he put her down, she stared at all of them lovingly. "I appreciate you guys so much."

"We appreciate you too, Tsuki." Kurama returned the smile. "We're a team. No matter what."

There was a hard knock before the worker entered. "Team Urameshi, you're on in 5. Please follow me to the waiting area."

"Let's get going." Hiei made a sound low in his throat that didn't seem happy. "This place is already starting to irritate me."

Kuwabara took off his school jacket and placed it on his shoulders. "It's time for my grand entrance. Yukina, I hope you're out there."

Tsuki clasped her hands and did a quick prayer. She grabbed Iku and followed her teammates to the waiting area. The stereo blasted when they stood in front of a triangular door.

"Hello, everybody! Welcome to the semi-finals! We're sorry to keep you waiting!" an unfamiliar cute voice announced. "It's so great to meet you! My name is Juri, and I'll be the referee! It's my first time, so be friendly, okay?!"

"Yeah, baby!" a demon whooped. "You're looking sexy out there!"

"What's your number?! I would love to take you on a date!"

Butterflies filled Tsuki's stomach as claps and bangs echoed. Excitement and anticipation filled the air while thousands of fans started chanting.

"That's right, you pain enthusiasts! The semi-finals of the Dark Tournament are poised to begin! For reasons I can't talk about, I've been moved out of the ring and into this measly broadcasting booth! Not that I'm bitter, of course!" Koto announced. "I just want to see some blood!"

"That's new. Do you think it had something to do with our last fight?" Kuwabara asked.

"Probably," Kurama replied. "The committee is very strict on their rules."

"Now, it's a great honor that I get the ceremony started!" Juri announced. "The fourth surviving semi-finals teams are: Team Gorenja, of course, Team Toguro, Team Uraotogi, and our special guest, Team Urameshi!"

Tsuki rolled her eyes. Angry voices wove in and out of the crowd's jeering. She didn't know why she expected any love from them.

Now the first round in the semi-finals is Team Urameshi vs. Team Uraotogi! It's time to introduce Team Urameshi!"

The doors opened, revealing Team Urameshi to the bright light as they walked in. Thousands of demons booed and growled at them.

"Get those dirty creatures off the streets!"

"Your team isn't worthy to fight Team Toguro!"

Tsuki glared at Younger Toguro, who sat a few rows behind Koto. He didn't even bother to hide his evil smile. His tall, jet black-hair teammate settled next to him.

"Interesting," Kurama studied Team Toguro suspiciously. "Toguro and one of his members wanted to see the fight too."

Hiei's eyes sparked interest. "Well, let's give them a good show. Team Uraotogi better be worth my time. I'll be upset if I have to fight weaklings."

"I don't know why you're all stressed, Hiei. If you want, I'll just beat them all by myself." Kuwabara flaunted his jacket and eagerly headed to the ring.

"Alright, please give it up for Team Uraotogi!" Juri announced, coiling her long tail. The lights glistened her tan skin and pretty outfit.

Tsuki's eyes focused on the large door. The crowd responded happily when Team Uraotogi entered. Malicious smirks already appeared on their arrogant faces.

"Here I am ringside people, and the first fight of the semi-finals it's only minutes away!" Koto announced. "Team Uraotogi is getting a lot of love. And it looks like a lot of ladies came out to support the team!"

"Kyaaaa! Do your best, Shishi! We love you!"

"Kuro, you're so hot! Please be my boyfriend!"

"Wow, a lot of groupies," Kuwabara gazed around. "Hopefully, the girls don't have to fight these catty demon girls."

What do they see in these weirdos? Tsuki frowned, observing her surroundings. The stadium was four stories high. No sign of Keiko and the rest of the girls. Probably still getting ready at the hotel.

"The energy of the crowd is breathtaking, and within the walls of this giant dome, the excitement seems to fester like mold and leftover take out!" Koto declared. "Team Urameshi and Team Uraotogi are now approaching the ring! I can tell already this is going to be a joyous blood bath!"

Light coming from the gigantic floodlights shone down on the field, making everything look so bright and dazzling. Below the set of lights, the right side of the stadium displayed a large screen.

The teams met in the middle. Tension filled the air. The crowd began to realize that Yusuke and the masked fighter were missing.

"What?! It's only 4?!

"The quitters! They've pulled out!"

"What magnificence image of destruction and misery must be swimming through these competitors' heads as they stared down their enemies in the ring!" Koto announced happily. "But as the countdown approaches zero, Yusuke and the masked fighter have still not entered the stadium! Leaving their team mismatched: 4 vs. 5! Does this mean the controversial demons Hiei and Kurama will each have to fight twice to keep their team alive?!"

Kuwabara glared at Koto while pointing his finger at Team Uraotogi. "What's that supposed to mean?! I said I'm taking them all by myself!"

Tsuki just sighed. Fair enough. She only showed them a small portion of her power.

Shishiwakamaru scoffed, looking at Kuwabara up and down. "Please, I would rather fight air than waste my talent on you." He shot them a disapproving glance. "I thought we agreed on a good fight? What has happened to the rest of your team?"

"Oh," Kuwabara folded his arms and smirked. "They just said you guys weren't worth their time."

"Besides," Tsuki narrowed her eyes while Iku growled. "We're perfectly capable of taking you lunatics on."

Shishiwakamaru gave her a murderous look. "We'll see, priestess."

"It's now time to choose the conditions of your fight!" Juri demanded.

"It doesn't matter," Hiei stated, his posture uncaring. "Let's just see who lives."

Kuro stared down at Hiei, chewing his gum. "You're a hasty one, aren't you, boy?" He blew a bubble, allowing it to pop. "I take it you're fighting first."

Hiei glared at Team Uraotogi, Kuro the hardest. "That's right I am. First, last, and only." His dark aura sparked in his arm while clenching his fist. "I've been under too much stress lately. Killing you all should be a good remedy."

"Heh, we're all anxious to fight here. Why don't we let an outside party decide the pairings?" Shishiwakamaru took out two yellow dice, glowing each of their names. "Each six-sided dice represents a team with one member's name on each side. Since we only have five, our sixth side is a free space. Anyone can fight when it comes up. And you must fight as many times as your name appears as long as you're still alive."

Tsuki stared hard at the dice. "How do we know it's not rigged?"

"Oh, it's real," Shishiwakamaru replied confidently. "I don't question fate. It has no boundaries."

"You're comical," Hiei remarked. "Your worthless dice don't bother me. But one thing. Whenever it's the name of someone not around, I'll be fighting in their place."

"I'm also fine with the conditions," Kurama stated. "Kuwabara? Tsuki?"

Kuwabara's thumb brushed his nose. "Whatever, I guess. As long as it's fair and square."

Tsuki nodded, her suspicions still up. She got a bad vibe from Team Uraotogi.

Juri raised her hand and smiled. "Okay, matches will be chosen by rolling up dice! Multiple turns are allowed, and as always in the semi-finals, five wins will advance!"

Shishiwakamaru swiftly threw the dice. "Fate makes her choice."

Everyone stared at the ground. The dice landed, revealing Hiei and Makintaro's names.

"Looks like you're up against Makintaro, Hiei," Kuwabara stated.

"Ha," Hiei laughed. "Your desperate plan has backfired."

"Heheheh," Makintaro grinned, veins forming around his huge muscles. "You talk way too big, little man."

"Fighters! Meet in the middle!" Juri ordered. "Remaining fighters leave the stage!"

"You got this, Hiei," Tsuki stated before leaving the ring with Kuwabara and Kurama.

Hiei smiled at her, walking to the middle. "I know."

"I'm glad Hiei went first," Kuwabara stated. "He and Kurama were the only ones that got to see Team Uraotogi brawl."

"Did Makintaro fight yesterday, Kurama?" Tsuki asked, placing Iku down.

"Yes. Makintaro likes to charge his opponents with speed and aggression with an ax. Though successful yesterday, I don't think that tactic is going to work with Hiei."

"Alright, fans. The first match of the semi-finals: little man Hiei vs. the big man Makintaro!" Juri gave the signal. "Begin!"

Hiei drew out his sword and smirked. Within a blink of an eye, he sliced Makintaro's forearm right off.

Kurama smiled when Hiei swiftly came back to his position. "That's very impressive."

"Yeah," Tsuki agreed. "I'm glad I didn't blink. I had barely seen it."

Kuwabara glanced at them. "Huh? What are you guys talking about?" He eyed the ring and shrank, mouth gaped. "Gah!"

Hiei remained still with Makintaro's arm behind his back. But that smirk stayed on his devilish face as blood dripped to the floor.

Makintaro laughed, unbeknownst to his wound. "Heheheh, what's wrong? Did we have a little accident in our trousers?"

"Your whole nervous system." Pleasure filled Hiei's eyes. "It leaves much to be desired."

"What are you talking about my nervous system?! Come on!" Makintaro urged, stomping his foot. "Just give me your best shot!"

"Fool," Hiei lifted Makintaro's arm high in the air. "I already have."

"Huh?!" Makintaro stared at his upper arm in horror while it gushed out blood. "Arrrhhh!" He frantically moved around the ring.

"Amazing," Kuwabara complimented. "He's even faster than last time."

"Yeah," Tsuki's eyes glistened. What a strong warrior.

"You're lucky I'm feeling generous today." Hiei walked away, tossing the arm to Juri.

Juri jumped. "Gross! Gross! Gross!" She threw the arm on the floor and scrambled.

"Hey! Where are you going?!" Makintaro's jaws clenched. His face blazed in a sudden rage

"I'm not done with you, little man!"

Hiei proceeded towards the edge of the ring. "You're not worthy of my time."

"I SAID I'm not done with you yet!" Makintaro's energy increased, regrowing an ax out of his missing forearm. He charged like a bull. "Let's play! RAHHHHH!"

Iku's ears perked down. Tsuki, Kuwabara, and Kurama caught their breaths as Hiei turned, eyes widening.

"Die!" Makintaro swung down. He viciously smirked when he sliced through Hiei's jacket. "Got ya!"

Tsuki sighed in relief when Hiei reappeared on Makintaro's back.

"Your eyes are rather slow," Hiei stated after Makintaro glanced up. He lifted his sword. "Too bad."

"Hu-augh!" Makintaro cried out as Hiei impaled him in the head.

"Yuck," Kuwabara subtly touched his chin. "That's humiliating."

"Wow, he improved quickly," Tsuki praised while Iku barked. "My eyes only caught a blur of his movements."

"Hiei's a very committed person," Kurama stated. "He'll do whatever it takes to master his abilities."

The audience booed when Hiei flipped and landed back swiftly in the ring.

"And the winner by death is Hiei!" Juri announced.

Hiei pointed at Shishiwakamaru and smiled. "Hurry and roll, Shishi. I have a feeling it's going to be me once more."

"Hiei wins in under a minute, getting bonus points in my book for both skull piercing and amputation!" Koto announced. "But next time, let's try to drag it out! We must not forget our torturing!"

Tsuki, Kurama, and Kuwabara joined Hiei in the ring. Team Uraotogi stepped in, glaring daggers at Hiei.

"And that means it's time for match 2!" Juri glanced at Makintaro's body and squirmed. "Um, can we please get a clean-up crew to pick up this body?! This isn't part of the referee's job, is it?!"

"That was relaxing." Hiei moved his neck and shoulders. "It better be me again. I like the chance to finish warming up."

"Careful," Shishiwakamaru smirked, tossing the dice in the air. "Fate may have a sense of humor."

Everyone watched with anticipation when the dice fell. Yusuke and Kuro's names appeared.

"Hm, so it's Yusuke vs. Kuro Momotaro," Kuwabara spoke. "But since Yusuke isn't here, it's a random turn."

Hiei smiled. He looked ready to challenge Kuro. "This might be my lucky day after all. If we can choose anybody from our team to fight in this match, then of course it's going to be me."

Instinct sent a shiver of warning through Tsuki. A cold, cunning look appeared on Kuro's face. This match wasn't going to be easy.

"The second match of the semi-finals will be Hiei vs. Kuro Momotaro!" Juri announced. "Remaining fighters, please step out of the ring!"

"Hiei," Kurama's tone turned urgent. "Stay on guard. Kuro isn't Makintaro."

"Stop worrying, fox." Hiei headed to the middle. "I won't lose to this fool."

"Team Uraotogi isn't so tough. We got this, guys!" Kuwabara proclaimed. "Hiei will win."

"How do you feel about Kuro's match, Kurama?" Tsuki asked, patting Iku's head for staying in his sitting position. "There's something sadistic about him."

"I'm afraid we're going to have to wait for Kuro to reveal his powers. He's another fighter that hid them well," Kurama informed. "In the last round, he quickly pounded his opponent down."

"It seems like Hiei is ready to spill some more blood!" Koto declared. "But Team Uraotogi's captain is taking an awfully long time to leave the ring!"

Tsuki frowned as Onji and Kuro whispered to each other. Hiei seemed annoyed too.

"Sorry to interrupt your talk, but I like to fight," Hiei stated, his eyes narrowing further. "Your little chit-chat isn't going to help you win."

"What are you jokers whispering about over there for so long?!" Kuwabara demanded, losing his patience. "If you got something so important to say, why don't you share it with the rest of the group?!"

"Yes, if you wouldn't mind!" Juri stated firmly. "We would like to start the next match now!"

Kuro gave her a death glare while Onji simply chuckled.

Juri quivered and raised her hands. "Or not! We can wait until whenever you think you might be ready!"

"What a bunch of jerks." Kuwabara shook his fist. "Team Uraotogi is starting to piss me off."

"I know." Tsuki glared at them as they kept whispering. "I'm not feeling their negative energy either."

"Iku!" he growled, hackles going up.

"They're underestimating him, especially Kuro. He thinks Hiei is nothing without the dark dragon," Kurama informed them. "The captain wants Kuro to delay Hiei long enough to memorize his powerful attacks. But Kuro wants to play and kill Hiei. "

"Hiei isn't going to let that happen," Tsuki stated with no doubt in her eyes. "He'll win."

"Both fighters, please step forward!" Juri demanded. She gave Makintaro's body a sick look. "And can someone PLEASE remove this dead body?!"

Kuro and Hiei had an intense stare-off when he came in the middle. He spitted his gum out and smiled smugly. "If I were you, little man. I wouldn't let that last victory go to my head." Kuro kneeled and grabbed the sword from Makintaro's skull. "The idiot may have been the biggest in our team, but he was also the weakest. Here, let me get him off the ring."

Tsuki and Iku cringed when Kuro kicked Makintaro's body, flopping him out of the ring. Her mouth dropped open, then tightened into a scowl. "What an asshole."

"Grr, hey!" Kuwabara's face turned crimson. "That's your teammate! A real man wouldn't do that!"

"Hahahaha! So what?! He's dead! And I think you find that I'm just a tad tougher than Makintaro's was." Kuro licked Hiei's bloody sword, eyeing it deliciously. "Yeah, sweet sword."

Hiei managed a deadpan expression. "Hate to say, but that's hardly hygienic. You have no idea how many creatures that sword has cut through."

"Oh, I'm sure." Kuro's eyes widened, holding the sword to his right forearm. "Let me add one more."

Goosebumps prickled all over Tsuki's body when Kuro cut the center, causing blood to spew out. "Disgusting."

Shock and disgust showed on almost everyone's faces as they stared at Kuro. From the smug look on his crazy face, he certainly seemed to be enjoying the sensation caused by the sword.

"Oh, yeah! THAT'S IT!" Kuro's cold gaze fixed on his arm. "It hurt SO good! Oh! Oh! YEAH, baby! Now we're TALKING!"

"Wow! This is definitely more of an unconventional move!" Koto announced with a surprised tone. "But hey, it's the Dark Tournament! Anything can happen!"

"What a nut!" Kuwabara remarked. "These guys are making it look easy for us to beat them!"

"It's disturbing," Kurama stated. "But I'm certain he's making a point."

"Exactly," Tsuki agreed, trying to understand his unsettling and bizarre action.

Kuro stuck the blade into the ground, huffing, and puffing. "Sharp...not that it'll do you...any good now…" He grabbed a white sphere from his belt and glared cruelly at Hiei. "This...is the...demon sphere...that seals...your fate."

"I doubt that, fool." Hiei cast a skeptical look. "I create my own path."

Kuwabara stared at Kuro, slacked-jawed. "I don't know what that is, but it doesn't look very good for Hiei."

Tsuki tilted her head while Iku's tail raised high. Kuro crushed the sphere, allowing smoke to surround him.

"Um, before I can even start the match, Kuro has already put on a bloody show!" Juri pronounced. "Now he crushed a strange sphere that's spewing smoke!"

Kuro inhaled the smoke. His eyes became red while his pupils dilated.

"Huh?! Now, what the heck is that crackpot doing?!" Kuwabara questioned. "Drugs?!"

"I'm not liking this." A cold sweat passed over Tsuki's as a smoky-blue grey aura swirled around Kuro. "His energy is skyrocketing."

"He's transforming," Kurama explained, studying the blonde demon. "Look at his arm. It's healing at a high rate."

Kuro's cut disappeared as he grew. Dark-brown fur covered most of his body, his ears pointed. "Hehehehehehehe," he laughed evilly, revealing sharp fangs. "Beast armor: armor of the ape. What do you think, Hiei?"

"Hmph," Hiei stood unbothered. "They need to put you back in the zoo."

"My goodness! Kuro's body is now covered in hair!" Koto announced, sighing in distaste. "So much for those freshly wax-washed boards abs I love so dearly!"

Kurama's mouth twisted, awareness in his eyes. "Hiei needs to stay alert and end this fight quickly. Those spheres must contain some sort of animalistic properties that transformed Kuro once consumed."

Tsuki eyed Kuro's belt. He had four more spheres left. "Who knows what other powers he has."

Kuro grabbed the sword and threw it at Hiei's chest. "Well, I won't be needing this scrap metal anymore, and I honestly could say neither will you!"

Hiei blocked it, grabbing the sword with his dominant hand. "We'll see about that."

"Begin!" Juri demanded.

Hiei speedily twirled the sword. "Let's put this armor to the test." Using his arm, he leaped forward, disappearing.

Kuro waited. Hiei appeared on the side, swinging the sword to his head. Kuro smiled and blocked the strike with his arm.

"Yeah, you got him, Hiei!" Kuwabara cheered.

"No," Kurama stated. "It's a standoff."

Tsuki's heart sank at Kuro's menacing face. She gasped when she heard a cracking sound from Hiei's sword. In an instance, it split apart.

"Uhhh, yikes!" Juri backed away as the pieces dropped.

"That's impossible." Kuwabara raised his eyebrows. "What the heck happened to his sword?"

"It broke," Kurama simply replied.

"Tsk," Hiei stepped back, springing up. "I would rather destroy you with my own hands anyway."

Tsuki swallowed hard. Kuro instantly met Hiei in the air, appearing behind him. "He's gotten faster."

"Yeah, they're evenly matched right now," Kuwabara stated.

Kuro kicked and threw multiple punches. Hiei dodged, but Kuro eventually punched him in the gut. Once Hiei bent forward, Kuro used his fists to pound him in the back of the head.

"Hiei!" Tsuki yelled while Iku barked fiercely. Shock and fear poured out of her when he crashed into the ring.

Kurama's features grew more worried. "He's in trouble. Kuro is stronger now."

Hiei flung out, slamming hard into the wall. The applause from the crowd made Tsuki's head giddy.

"Fantastic! He blew him away!"

"That's the spirit of the game!"

"Well, I admit," Kuwabara spoke in a nervous voice. "I underestimated Team Uraotogi."

"Don't worry. I'm surprised too. Kuro really reinforced himself," Kurama replied. "He and possibly the other Uraotogi members possess powerful items emitting incredible force."

Tsuki cast Kurama an alarmed look. Who would give these items to these crazy people?!

Kuro gave Hiei a look so cold and so evil, Tsuki's heart nearly came to a standstill. "You're still there? Guess you're probably wondering how I was able to fend off your attack so easily. Simple really. All I have to do to get immunity is to expose myself to a small dose of my enemies' defense. Kind of like a flu shot. Once my body knows what attack to look for, then it's time for a good old steaming sphere."

"What does the sphere do?" Kuwabara asked.

"Think of it as a catalyst for my beast armor which makes me invisible to my opponent's attack. My offense also increases, and I'm much more handsome to boot."

"More like King Kong!" Tsuki shouted.

"Iku!"

"Hahahaha!" Kuro howled, bouncing his pecs. "Believe me. There are ladies out there that'll dig this, priestess." He waved when some of the demon women whistled.

Kuwabara's nostril flared. "But that's not fair! There's no way Hiei can beat someone invisible."

"With this form, Kuro is only immune to blade weapons," Kurama explained. "Hiei needs a powerful move to defeat him."

"Kill Hiei! Kill Hiei! Kill Hiei!" The audience chanted viciously. They had a fine time booing when the fire demon moved.

"Don't tell me you're finished, midget!" Kuro taunted. "I knew you were all talk!"

Hiei rose to his feet, his expression tense and alert. He raised his chin, walking closer to the ring.

"Whoa, Hiei," Kuwabara stated, his eyes clouded with concern. "He sure is calm about this."

"That's good," Tsuki replied softly. "Kuro is being overly confident right now. He hasn't seen Hiei's other moves."

"Come on!" Kuro urged. "What are you waiting for?! Where's your famous dark dragon crap?!"

Hiei's eyes flickered with annoyance. His face grew darker and darker while his arm sparked. "You want it, ape-man?"

"Yeah, bring it!" Kuro beat his chests. "As soon as my body memorizes your powerful attack, I can squash you with the palm of my hand!"

"Hiei, don't let your ego cloud your judgment," Kurama warned.

Hiei took off his headband, revealing his Jagan. A dark aura swirled around him, covering his body. "Who am I to turn down a fan's request? Just remember, you brought this upon yourself."

"Oh no!" Koto announced in a tight voice. "It looks like Hiei is going to summon the dragon of darkness flame again! Get ready to duck and cover!"

Tsuki and Iku shivered. Some audiences talked amongst each other urgently, debating if they should run or not.

"Hey, what's the hold up here?!" Kuro demanded. "Are you too weak to do it?! Your little man syndrome finally cured?!"

"True pain takes time my soon-to-be-dead friend," Hiei replied in a cold voice. "Just try to keep your peanut size brain amused."

"You show him, Hiei!" Kuwabara cheered. "His memory is not so sharp after all. Obviously, he's forgotten what that attack did to Zeru."

Kurama shook his head. "Not just Zeru. The flame also took its toll on Hiei," he explained. "To summon the dragon. Hiei must use his spiritual energy as bait to lore from the pits of the Spirit World. His technique only works if he can admit a tremendous amount of energy for a prolonged period."

Tsuki reflected on what Hiei had told her. His energy has gotten better, but he still needed to figure out a way to tame the dark dragon.

Kurama continued. "Hiei was in peak condition when he used the darkness flame against Zeru, and even that wasn't enough power for him to control it. Who knows how he'll fare now operating a little over half his energy."

"That's half?!" Kuwabara blinked rapidly. "You're telling me he's making that much energy half his normal strength?!"

"Regardless, he doesn't have enough energy to unleash it. Even Team Uraotogi knows he's unable to summon the technique."

"That's not going to stop him from winning," Tsuki stated without hesitation. "He'll figure something out."

"Where is it, Hiei?! Let's go!" Kuro taunted in a growl. "I'm ready to go ape-shit on your ass!"

"Here, gorilla!" Hiei leaped up, fire flaring from his fingers. "Fist of the mortal flame!"

"Augh!" Large flames hit Kuro's chest and face. He instantly staggered back, covering himself.

"Nice, Hiei!" Tsuki applauded.

"Hold on." Kuwabara squinted his eyes. "That doesn't look like a dragon."

"It's the related flame, his earthly fire attack," Kurama quickly informed. "No stronger than the darkness flame, but deals a considerable amount of damage."

"Oh my, that was brutal!" Juri announced. "Hiei seems to hit Kurama with some sort of terrible attack! He even got Kuro's eye!"

"Ahhh!" Kuro kneeled as his skin continued to scald. "It burns! Ahhh!"

"Hmph," Hiei stated, chest out. "I decided why waste the flame of the underworld under the likes of you when my earthly flames are enough."

Tsuki froze when Kuro grinned wickedly. He loomed over Hiei, his face red, teeth bared, looking like a mad dog.

"It's an unlikely reversal!" Koto declared. "Kuro is back on his feet! That fist of the mortal flame would've sent weaker fighters running for their mommies, but not this brick wall!"

"Hahahahaha, I really had you going there for a second, didn't I?" Kuro stated with one eye closed. He grabbed another sphere and crushed it. "And now I memorize this pain too! Hahahaha!"

"What a crazy guy!" Juri announced, shrieking away. "Kuro is squeezing another one of those steamy spheres! Could he possibly get any tougher?!"

"Now," Kuro inhaled the smoke. His bones cracked and popped in bizarre directions as his body grew larger. His voice turned sinister. "If you thought my armor of the ape was badass, wait until you see my second armor, the armor of the phoenix! Fuahahaha!"

"Holy smokes!" Kuwabara trembled while Kuro grew spiky golden hair and a beard. "He's a big ass bird!"

"Not only that." Tsuki and Iku quivered. "I can sense a huge increase in his power."

The audience watched with mixed emotions as blue scales covered Kuro's skin. Huge golden wings spread out of his arms.

"Your little fist technique is completely useless against me!" Kuro proclaimed, eyes red-rimmed. "Now that I'm protected by my second armor! Hahahahahaha!"

Koto gasped at the transformation. "This sequel to Kuro's beast armor is even bigger and badder than the first one! But I think the burning question is; was there anything wrong with his fairly hot muscular body?!"

"What a rip-off!" Kuwabara protested. "This guy is too chicken to stick around to fight in his own skin for a while!"

"Nicely put," Kurama agreed. "He's trying to be invisible with all of Hiei's attacks."

"That's the Dark Tournament for you." Tsuki stared icily at Toguro. "There are no rules in the shark tank."

Hiei remained unfazed. "Colorful costume you got there, bird brain. But it doesn't look so tough."

"Hahahahaha! Wanna see what it can do, puny man?!" Kuro bounced, flying towards Hiei. "Hahahahaha!"

Kuwabara gave out an exasperated sigh. "Man, here we go again! If Kuro keeps this up, Hiei is finished."

"Have faith." Tsuki touched her heart. "He can do this."

"We shall see," some uneasiness lurked in Kurama's voice. "But this is going to be a close call."

Kuro's fist connected with Hiei's jaw, causing him to fly across the ring.

"Poor," Hiei scowled. "Ugh!" Kuro instantly appeared behind, punching him again.

Hiei landed back on the ring, kneeling as he spat out blood. Kuro tried to hit him again, but Hiei disappeared. He circled Kuro, moving in precise, efficient ways.

Kuro's eyes tracked him. "You're trying to confuse me, and it's not working! I can see that you're in fact, right here!" He threw a jab, but Hiei dodged and reappeared in front of his abdomen.

"Let yourself open, fool." Hiei's Jagan glowed, flames surrounding him. "How about double fist of the mortal flame?"

"I don-Augh!" Kuro stood shocked by the sudden attack.

"Alright!" Kuwabara and Tsuki cheered while Hiei pounded Kuro multiple times in the chest. Each hit sparked an intense inferno, sizzling his flesh.

"Yahhhh!" Hiei finished with one more strong punch to the gut. He smirked, settling back in the ring. "Hmph."

Kuro appeared finished but quickly smiled. "Gotcha!" He hurled a cross, but Hiei flew back, eyes widening.

"No," Tsuki gasped as Kuro reappeared behind Hiei, angle-kicking him hard in the face.

"Hiei's earthly flames are useless," Kurama stated while Kuro punched Hiei in the stomach. "Kuro yet again was capable of resisting his technique."

Fear fluttered through Tsuki, seeing Kuro bend Hiei's back with his hands. He also delivered another kick and punch to his stomach and face.

"Man, that's painful," Kuwabara said as Hiei smashed in the ring, facedown. "I never thought I would see Hiei having a difficult time with an opponent."

Kuro landed back. His crazy talk made Tsuki shivered. "Fuahahahaha, are you convinced yet?! There's nothing you can do to beat me! You might as well stay on the ground and think of a nice way to beg!"

"Never!" Hiei yelled breathlessly, lifting his face. "You'll have to rip my limbs off to keep me down!"

"Shouldn't give him any more suggestions, Hiei," Kurama warned.

"Yeah, that's a good point," Kuwabara agreed.

"It appears Hiei is simply unable to compete with the strength and power of the new and improved Kuro!" Koto announced. "Amputation seems to be guaranteed!"

"Hiei..." Tsuki watched anxiously as his chest rose and fell rapidly, slowly picking himself up.

"Too bad you can't call on that little dragon. I would like to show the world how I can beat you even with the same level playing field." Kuro wore a wide grin while he grabbed another sphere. "But then again, it might just be fun to go ALL the way in."

"He's crazy," Tsuki commented. "It's like a high and rush to him."

Kurama nodded. "Yeah, and his teammates aren't too happy about this, especially the captain. He's delaying going for victory. "

"First, he was an ape and now a phoenix! What would Kuro transform into now?! Could it possibly be a purple hippo?!" Koto declared.

"Prepare yourself for the next Kuro Momotaro!" Kuro inhaled the smoke, his shirt ripping apart. "I'll take great pleasure in killing you! Hahahaha!"

Whispers and gasps echoed around them when Kuro's bones snapped and popped. He instantly grew brown fur and long white hair.

"Amazing, he's still rising in power," Tsuki stated as Kuro's aura glowed brightly.

"Iku…" Iku laid down, covering his face with his paws.

Kuwabara's face turned whiter. "I'm getting a disturbing feeling about this transformation."

"Oooowhooooo!" Kuro howled as if the full moon shone brightly in the night sky.

"Wow, look," Hiei stated dryly. "It's the big bad wolf."

Kuro's mouth foamed. He peeled his lips back, revealing canines sharp enough to crunch bones. "MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Now I'm protected with the third beast armor: the armor of the wolf!" He curled and cracked his lengthy claws. "I'm a hell of a lot stronger than before. And as you can see, I have a few sharp new toys on my hand that I would love to share with you if you're in the mood to play."

Kurama shifted uneasily. "Hiei needs to end this now. He can't deal with this armor for too long."

"He's freaking me out," Tsuki confessed. Iku's fur was up. "What a sadistic killer."

Kuro growled fiercely. He stood poised for flight, watching Hiei viciously. "Die!" His claws sliced through the ring, aiming towards Hiei.

Hiei jumped out of the way, but Kuro appeared behind him, ripping his shirt.

Kuwabara's voice shook. "His moves are creepy."

Tsuki's insides turned to jelly. Of all the spheres, the wolf one was the most cunning.

"HA! I promise I won't miss your flesh again." Kuro slowly crept forward. "Just give me a moment to get used to this body."

Hiei stepped back, unwilling to lower his guard against the huge wolf.

"I've never known Hiei to back away from a challenger," Kurama stated.

"He's unsure what to do," Tsuki responded. "Kuro's immunity is giving him fewer options."

"And he does have a lot of teeth," Kuwabara quickly added.

Hiei stumbled, discovering the hilt of his broken sword. "What the hell?" He shrugged with indifference, remaining still.

"Does that mean the great Hiei is ready to quit?" Kuro asked with a grin.

"No, you incompetent." Hiei kicked the sword up, grabbing it. He shot him a warning look. "But I would give you one last chance to."

Kuro barked up a laugh. "HAHAHAHAHA! That's very sporty of you. I think I'll pass. However, your memories are like mine, so I'll give you a hint. If your sword didn't work on my first beast armor, it sure won't work on the third."

Hiei's eyes flashed. "I know, mangy wolf, but this is the only way to kill you," he stated, sighing heavily. "I hate to use this attack. I find it totally devoid of any taste or artistry."

"Well, that's hard to believe," Kuwabara spoke. "There's actually a move that's too barbaric for Hiei."

"Then it's probably going to be very messy," Kurama included.

"It can't be helped," Tsuki stated, her fingers crossed. "He has no choice."

"HA!" Kuro licked his muzzle. "Don't hold back on me because of something offensive. I'm no snob. I was planning on a vulgar move myself." He gnashed his teeth and bounded forward. "I'm going to rip you to shreds!"

Tsuki and Iku flinched. Kuro sprang at Hiei, sinking his teeth into his neck. Tsuki's stomach churned, but she didn't cave to the rising nausea.

Juri shivered, staring in blank horror when blood spurted out in a hot spray. "Ewww..."

Mouths dropped. Eyes bugged. Not a sound could be heard as everyone watched in terror. They finally gasped when Hiei's sword pierced Kuro's stomach, displaying his darkness flames.

Kuro's body split in multiple directions. Hiei's crimson eyes stared in triumph as his remains turned to ashes.

"He did it." Relief spread across Tsuki's face. Iku barked happily.

"What's happened, Kurama?" Kuwabara asked. "I thought you said that was impossible cuz Hiei could be swallowed?"

"Hiei did summon the darkness flame from the pits of the Spirit World. He just didn't use his arm," Kurama explained. "By transforming his energy into his sword, he lured the darkness flame and quickly pierced the beast armor. Kuro was dead before his teeth sank in. Ingenious."

"Yes," Tsuki smiled at the fire demon. "He's got a great sense of combat."

Kuwabara rubbed the back of his head. "I don't know about all this genius business. I mean, it's not all that different from what I do with my spirit sword, and nobody calls that genius. Hey, wait a second!" He slammed his hands on the ring. "Were you saying back there that my spirit sword didn't have any taste to your superb artistry?!"

"Hmph," Hiei threw the sword, staring hard at Kuwabara. "Of course I did, idiot."

"Okay, that's it!" Kuwabara tightened his fists. "You're SO dead, elf!"

"Since all pieces of Kuro Momotaro stayed down for more than ten seconds, the winner of the match is Hiei!" Juri announced to the angry crowd.

"Kill them! Kill them now! I'm tired of watching these mongrels win!"

"Disgusting beings! They don't deserve to live another day!"

Tsuki observed Hiei while he clutched his shoulder. Wonderful confidence radiated off of him, but at the same time, she could feel something darker, a sense of deeply buried frustration.

Juri did a cute pose. "I'm sorry, folks, but the rules are the rules! If it makes you feel any better, it looks like Kuro hurt Hiei pretty badly!"

"It seems that was Team Uraotogi's plan all along. They're not fazed by Kuro's death," Kurama stated, eyeing their opponents. "They wanted Hiei to be deeply wounded. "

Tsuki glared at the remaining Team Uraotogi members as they smirked. Their extreme disloyalty irritated her nerves.

Hiei dropped down and sneered. "If they think I'm not fighting because of my injuries, they have another thing coming."

Kuwabara stared at him in disbelief. "Jeez, Hiei. Maybe you should rest. You barely survived the second round with Kuro."

Hiei shrugged like it didn't matter. "This pain is nothing." He winced as he unraveled a cloth from his arm. "I refuse to back down from a fight."

Tsuki's eyes crinkled. Something about Hiei being more upset about his pride than he was about having a battered body had a strange, calming effect on her. "Let me help you." She grabbed the cloth and secured it to his side, tying the knot on his puncture wound. The injury wasn't as bad as she feared. "You were amazing out there. I enjoyed watching you."

Hiei nodded in approval, his eyes focusing on the ring. "Thank you."

"Now it's time for the third match!" Juri announced. "Fighters, come to the center!"

"Don't roll my name yet. I wanna go last," Kuwabara mumbled to himself. "The team leader always goes last. I'm the team leader, and I wanna go last."

The demon women screamed when Shishiwakamaru entered the ring. He glowered at Team Urameshi when they met in the middle.

"Come on!" Hiei pressed. "Roll the dice again! I have the urge for three in a row!"

"I hope it'll be my turn," Kurama stated, hands behind his back. "Hiei has done enough showing off for today."

"Bring it," Tsuki stated. Iku barked outside of the ring. It's time to release my fury.

"Fate, don't fail me." Shishiwakamaru tossed the dice.

Everyone eagerly waited while the dice landed, revealing Kurama and Ura Urashima's names.

"Yes." Kurama and Kuwabara beamed.

Hiei and Tsuki scowled. "Damn."

"The 3rd match of the semi-finals will be Kurama from Team Urameshi, and Ura Urashima from Team Uraotogi!" Juri announced. "Fighters, stay in the middle!"

"Kurama," Hiei began. "Don't repeat the same mistake from the last round. End it quickly."

"We shall see, Hiei," Kurama calmly replied.

"Did you get a chance to see Ura fight, Hiei?" Kuwabara asked while they left the ring.

"No," Hiei glared icily at Team Uraotogi. "But the arrogant fool and the old man are hiding something. They wanted Ura to fight Kurama."

Tsuki observed Ura. His energy was low compared to his other teammates. Kurama shouldn't have much problem beating him.

"By the authority of the tournament committee, let the third match begin!" Juri stated. "Start your fight!"

Ura whipped his fish line in the air. Kurama stepped back and whirled his rose whip high.

"And it looks like this match is going to be a duel of lashes weapons!" Koto announced. "With Ura Urashima twirling his fisher line, and Kurama wielding his trademarked rose whip, this one is going to be all about skill!"

Ura slashed his fishing line first. Kurama easily blocked it, following his lead. Sparks began to fly as they continued their attack.

"Wow! This is an incredible display of equally matched talent!" Koto declared. "And while there's no blood to speak up yet, those sparks keep me hopeful!"

Tsuki smiled as the crowd roared. Before the final, she needed to ask Kurama to do some training.

"Whoa, this is a fight!" Kuwabara's eyes glistened.

Hiei folded his arms. "Hmph, Kurama needs to stop fooling around and start fighting for real."

"What? He's whip swinging like a maniac," Kuwabara retorted.

"Have you learned anything, fool? It's Kurama's obnoxious habit. He never creates his own strategy until he fully understands his opponents."

Tsuki's face screwed up in concentration. Kurama and Ura continued their aggression for a few seconds with no chance of countering. Unexpectedly, Hiei snarled.

"Kurama ignored the telepathy," Hiei stated firmly. "Don't listen to his phony story."

Ura stumbled. Kurama began to crack his whip. However, just before it made contact with Ura, his eyes suddenly turned evil.

The color drained from Tsuki's face. Ura reappeared behind Kurama, tying the line around his body.

"Ah!" Kurama's skin sliced open. He toppled to the ground, groaning in pain.

"Kurama!" Kuwabara and Tsuki yelled, watching with serious, worried looks on their faces.

"Iku!" He barked anxiously.

"Hahahaha!" No remorse in Ura's eyes as he landed back, stomping on Kurama's rose. "I studied your fighting and found your only weakness is your kindness! And in that regard, I suggest you change the way you live your life, but it's too late now!"

Tsuki stared fiercely at Ura. "What a twisted man. He has no integrity."

"That's why you don't trust the enemy," Hiei stated. "They'll use your weakness against you."

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause. Kurama stared at Ura icily, blood leaking from his body.

"How did you put up with this goody-two-shoes crap? I had to choke back some major chunks while I was pretending to be an upstanding citizen," Ura stated harshly. "But man! Does it feel good to be bad again! Now you're going to die just like grandma!" He quickly whipped his line towards Kurama.

Kuwabara scowled while Kurama rose and dashed through the ring. "Team Uraotogi is a bunch of wussies. Ura had to go that low to get an advantage."

Tsuki's eyes widened as Kurama abruptly stopped at the edge. When he tried to go further, a force field blocked him.

"Come on, Kurama. Give me some credit here. You didn't think I was really trying to hit you with those attacks?" Ura pointed his bamboo rod at him. "Hook, line, and sinker. And you're the stupid fish."

"Wait! This was not part of my job description!" Juri shrilled. "Is there anybody who can bring me out of this thing?! I'm not supposed to be here!"

"What is he supposed to do now?" Kuwabara asked anxiously. "He has nowhere to go."

"Damn it, fox." Hiei scowled while Kurama remained still. "Use that smart brain of yours and figure it out."

"And before you get any ideas, my force field won't be nearly shredded as easily as that enchanted Ruka. In fact, it's impossible to break out from the inside." Ura dropped the rod and took his backpack out, revealing a brown box. "So get comfortable, and let me introduce you to the idunn box!"

Tsuki's heart dropped, observing the unusual container. "This is bad."

"Anybody other than the processor who breathes this smoke will quickly return to their younger age, back to those awkward adolescent years. The terrible twos or even infancy," Ura grinned evilly. "Once infected, you'll be so tiny and inexperienced. It'll be like taking candy for a ba-oh well. There's no point in cliche expressions. You'll see soon enough what I mean."

Tsuki and Kuwabara gasped when purple-blueish smoke burst out of the box. They only spotted Kurama holding his breath as the smoke quickly covered the ring.

"AEEEIAAA!" Juri screamed.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" Ura howled. "Once you become a fetus, I'll crush your head!"

"Why isn't that stuff coming any closer?" Kuwabara inquired after the smoke stopped on the edge. "Is it scared?"

"No, idiot. Maybe you don't understand the concept of force field," Hiei replied.

"I can't see anything," Tsuki stated, eyes squinting. "And Kurama's spiritual energy is getting weaker."

"Oh, no! The ring is shrouded in fog!" Koto declared. "And with Juri MIA, who knows what fantastic action is happening within those cloudy walls!"

Black lightning suddenly rippled in the ring. An intense cry of an animal rang Tsuki's ears.

"What the?" Kuwabara's body tensed. "Do you guys feel that too?"

"Yes," Tsuki took a deep, shaky breath while Iku twitched. "A huge power surge."

Thunder roared, and lightning flashed around the ring. The stunned crowd watched in silence.

"Ah! It's like a thunderstorm in there!" Kuwabara stated as the boom of thunder made his eyes widened. "Where's all this weird energy I'm feeling coming from?"

"Hmph, it's all Kurama," Hiei informed with excitement in his voice. "Down to the last drop."

"But it's different somehow and a heck of a lot more powerful," Kuwabara stated.

"It must have been the other fool who triggered his resurrection. Seems the fox has been fighting back his demon form after he was tainted by you humans 15 years ago."

Tsuki stood both excited and stunned. "Such fearsome power. I've never felt this before."

Koto whined. "I'm barely making out two contestants in the center of the ring! Which I can only assume are the combatants!" She announced, perking her ears. "But the voices I just picked up in my ears don't quite sound like either of them! What in the world is going on?! Has another fighter entered the ring now?! And what about Juri?! She's still not reporting! Has she been a casualty in this shrouded fight?! Will I be forced to replace her in the ring?!"

"Wait, I'm hwere!" Juri replied in a child-like voice. "es it snackie tyme yet, mama?!"

"Okay, people! This is ridiculous!" Koto smacked her forehead. "In addition to a new fighter, there seems to be a small child in the ring too!"

"Hiei," Tsuki asked. "Do you know what's going on in there?"

"Kurama is interrogating the weakling. He wants to know the secrets of the smoke." Hiei smiled in anticipation. "Hopefully, he'll figure it out. I would like to measure myself against his demon form."

"You're incorrigible, shrimp," Kuwabara remarked.

The smoke slowly cleared from a ring, revealing a dead, short-porcine demon with red skin. In front of him stood a silver-haired fox demon.

"Huh?! Hold the microphone, people! I've just see my personal fantasy! Sexy ears! A dreaming tail! Who is this love god?!" Koto sighed dreamily. "Shishiwakamaru sword is there too! Stabbed in the beast! Neither of the original combatants are in the ring! How in the world do we call this thing?!"

"Duh!" Kuwabara's mouth dropped. "Kurama really is a fox thing! Jeez, and to think I let him near my kitten!"

"You are as you should be, Kurama," Hiei stated with respect.

Tsuki couldn't help but blush a little. Kurama looked great in his fox demon form.

"Lower-class beast. Always the easiest to pawn." Kurama sighed and closed his eyes. A fox spirit swirled around him. "Looks like my time on the outside is short. It was fun while it lasted, Shuichi."

The audience gasped as Kurama transformed back to his human form. The fearsome energy settled back to his calm one.

"Agreed, Yoko," Kurama stated, smiling. "Thanks for the help."

"Aw, I can't explain it!" Koto pouted. "My silver hair hunk has transformed into a sadly tailless Kurama! Darn, my whole weekend has been shot!"

Juri beamed when she transformed back to her young adult self. "That was neat!" She announced, giving a peace sign. "And Kurama is the winner!"

"Yay!" Tsuki cheered. Iku barked and wagged his tail.

"It's official and on the board! Team Urameshi keeps the lead over Team Uraotogi in the semi-final round, 3 to 0!" Koto announced to the jeering crowd.

"Right on, Kurama." Kuwabara fist pumped the air. "That was quick."

"Yeah, and it seems Ura was just a pawn," Kurama glanced suspiciously at Shishiwakamaru and Onji. "Those two brought the other three members together. "

Shishiwakamaru jumped in the ring, placing his sword back into the sheath. "These primitives are never reliable. But we did neglect to tell him about the danger of that item with Kurama's unusual case." He flashed a dangerous look. "Now, let's continue, shall we? I'm ready for my fame."

Fury glinted in Tsuki's eyes, and her lips flattened out into a tight expression. That's it! Pretty boy is going down!
