"Iku," Iku nudged Tsuki's arm with his nose. His sad eyes stared lovingly at her.

Tsuki gave him an encouraging look. Something warm and light filled her ribs. "You're such a sweet boy." She gently rubbed his head. "I'll be fine."

They sat on the bench in the lounge, watching as people entered and exited. Inside, Tsuki's emotions swirled, oscillating between anger, guilt, and sadness. All she could think about was Genkai's final moments and her last few words to her.

I'm proud of you, Tsuki. You're getting stronger each day.

Tsuki clutched Genkai's hat tightly. An ache started deep in her stomach. She turned her face as her eyes welled up in tears. You deserved better, Genkai.

Iku nudged her again. When she turned, Tsuki spotted her grandfather entering the lobby. He instantly began to look around for her.

When they finally locked eyes, Grandfather Saito dropped his bags and opened his arms. He genuinely smiled but there was still sadness and hurt in his eyes.

Tsuki raised herself and jumped into his arms. "I miss you so much." She buried her head in his chest. "It's been hell, grandfather."

"I know." Grandfather Saito gave her a tight hug. He held her for a long time before releasing Tsuki. "Let's go outside. We'll have a small ceremony for Genkai."

The sun rose and shone gaily on the beach. White foams from the waves gather gently on the shore. Grandfather Saito placed a tiny table in front of the ocean view. He lit up incense and settled a small picture frame of Genkai next to it.

Tsuki placed Genkai's hat next to the frame. She and her grandfather sat on the mat and clasped their hands.

Iku placed himself next to Tsuki and lowered his head, ears perked down.

"Oh great, compassionate gods," Grandfather Saito began. "Today we honor our deceased friend and master Genkai. We pray that the Spirit World will guide her to the pure lands. May she have no suffering and worries. But rather receive only eternal rest and happiness. Let the perpetual light shine upon her."

A calm wind delivered a smell of sea salt and ezokanzo. Tsuki inhaled the fresh scent. She thought her grandfather might cry but he only continued.

"Genkai, you've always had a special place in my heart. I'm honored that I had the chance to be your friend for a very long time." He paused and took a deep breath. "Thank you for training me and my granddaughter. We couldn't have survived this tournament without your help. And with that, I'm grateful."

A few tears streamed down Tsuki's cheek while Iku placed his head on her lap. "God bless you, Genkai. Thank you for being a wonderful master."

"She came into my dream last night." Grandfather Saito stared at the clear blue sky. A deep furrow ran across his forehead. "She said there's no need for me to be sad. I already knew the outcome."

"Genkai told you?"

"Yes, before you guys left. But that didn't stop me from having hope." Grandfather Saito sighed deeply. "I thought maybe Toguro will have a change of heart and stop his madness."

Tsuki scowled. Hearing his name made her stomach twist. "He's pure evil, grandpa. He didn't deserve Genkai's love. How could you hurt someone that truly cared about you?"

"Their love was complicated. Of course, that didn't give him the right to kill her," Grandfather Saito explained, "Toguro wanted her to be by his side. But Genkai wanted to live a normal human life. Despite her horrible death, she got her wish in the end."

"It just feels so different without her presence," Tsuki confessed, glancing at Genkai's picture. "I was just starting to get to know her. I knew this experience would be horrible, but I never thought one of our teammates would die here."

"That's how I felt when Haru and Kaito died. Their deaths took a great toll on me." Grandfather Saito crossed his arms. "After my experience, I told myself I'll never step foot on this island ever again. But I guess fate had other plans for the Saito Tribe."

"The stadium needs to be burned to the ground," Tsuki vocalized. "I'll win my match and make sure the Saito Tribe won't ever have to participate in this hellhole."

"You remind me of your mother. Her determination was so strong. I know she's proud of your growth." Sorrow filled Grandfather Saito's face. "When I found out Aiya died, that was one of the worst days of my life. My child, gone before me. My heart was torn into pieces but I needed to think about you and your upbringing."

Tsuki remembered it like it was yesterday. Her grandfather hugged her tightly as he revealed the horrible news. That was only a few times seeing her grandfather cry.

Grandfather Saito placed his hand on her shoulder. "Tsuki, I want you to succeed. But most importantly, I want you to live a happy and fulfilled life. Pain and suffering will come, but I know you're strong enough to conquer it all."

"Thank you, grandfather. I know mother isn't here, but I'm just glad to have you here with me. I know I've been stubborn in the past, but when this tournament ends, I'm ready to take the next step as the shrine maiden," Tsuki declared. "The Human World needs me more than ever."

"I know you'll do great. I've always believed in you and I'll be there every step of the way until my last dying breath. Come, let's pray together." Grandfather Saito held her hands, squeezing them. "Gods, I would like to thank you for protecting and guiding my granddaughter in her darkest moments. All I ask is for you to keep watching over her. She needs the strength and wisdom to get through this final battle."

"Thank you gods for everything." Tsuki smiled with gratitude. "Without your help and people supporting me, I couldn't make it on my own. I know the battle isn't over. And there will be more trials and tribulations. But I know as long as I keep praying and focusing on the positive outcome, nothing can stand in my way."

"Iku," Iku agreed.

"Exactly," Grandfather Saito let go of her hands and gave her a small package. "This is for you. Go ahead and open it."

Tsuki unraveled it and beamed. Inside was her original priestess outfit and a vivid dark orange happi coat with colorful circles surrounding it.

"It was your mothers. She wore it proudly when she became a shrine maiden. I already have one ready for you, but we'll wait when we get back to the shrine."

"It's beautiful." Tsuki's eyes glistened as she raised the coat in the air. She looked forward to wearing it. Aiya was gone. But that was her mother, and she'll always be a part of her. "I love you, grandfather."

"I love you too." Grandfather Saito's eyes lit up. "Are you looking forward to the full moon festival? It's only a few months away."

Tsuki's smile widened. She completely forgot about it. "That's right. It'll be time to show the outside world that I'm a shrine maiden."

"Correct. I already told the Izumo Clan about your hard work. They're thrilled to see your performance." Grandfather Saito wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "I'm also looking forward to your Kagura dance."

Iku wagged his tail and barked. "Iku!"

"Me too, grandfather." Tsuki glanced at the sky while a few crows flew and landed in front of them. She had the future to look up to. "Me too."

Kurama raised his arms, his expression serious. Rose petals swirled around him, creating a strong whirlwind. "Petals and thorns!"

Tsuki sprinted as the petals flew at her. "Expand!" Her shield grew, blocking most of the attack. Some of the petals sliced her legs, but she kept persisting towards the fox demon.

Once his petals calmed down, Kurama whirled his whip to the ground. Grasses lifted, immediately flying towards Tsuki.

The grass felt like bb guns, but the priestess kept persisting. Once she made close range, she threw her shield at his stomach, pushing him back.

Kurama grunted and backflipped across the field. He quickly recovered himself and got into defense mode while Tsuki came closer.

"Spirit arrow!" 10 arrows flew at him with escalating speed. Before the arrows could make contact, huge trees emerged from the ground, shielding him from her attack.

"Damn it." Tsuki couldn't spot Kurama. "Spirit beam!" She shot a cannon, creating a large hole to pass through.

Tsuki gasped as she entered the smokescreen. She stood still, waiting but not for too long. Tsuki quickly evaded to the side and created a barrier while Kurama's whip struck the ground.

Kurama swiftly slashed his whip in multiple directions. He increased his speed, not giving Tsuki any time to attack.

Wait. Tsuki's eyes narrowed, focusing on his whip. She knew he had to slow down eventually. Now! She released her barrier and pressed forward.

For a moment, Kurama's eyes widened but he returned to his calm demeanor. He struck his whip at the persisting priestess.

Tsuki concentrated, allowing her white aura to cover her body. "Ah!" She cried as her hand grabbed hold of his whip. But the pain subsided when Tsuki ripped it apart.

The smoke disappeared. Kurama and Tsuki stood tall while staring intently at each other.

Tsuki huffed and puffed as she aimed her divine bells. Before she could take another step, something strong and sturdy held her position. Tsuki glanced down. Vines wrapped tightly on her ankles.

"I believe that's enough training for today," Kurama declared. He got down on his knees and unraveled the vines.

"Thank you, Kurama." Tsuki's divine bells returned to her bracelet. She smiled as Iku ran closer to her. She patted his head with her not injured hand. "It was fun training with you."

"You're welcome and likewise." Kurama straightened himself up and smiled. "You have gotten very aggressive with your attacks. Never seen this side of you."

"Was it too much?" Tsuki rubbed the back of her head, blushing a little. "I just want to make sure the witch takes me seriously."

"No, not at all. I like it," Kurama replied truthfully. "I'm sure she'll be surprised by this new you. You're strong and fast by nature. You just need to keep yourself trained. "

"I appreciate the advice, Kurama." Tsuki glared at the sky, thinking about Kana's wicked ways. "I just hate feeling powerless. And I hate going down without a fight."

"How are you feeling?" Kurama asked with concern in his eyes. "I'm surprised you didn't want to hurt me after our last interaction."

Tsuki pasted a happy expression on her face. "I'm okay. Speaking to my grandfather made me feel a lot better. Plus Genkai will hit me on the head and tell me to focus on my match." Something welled up in her chest, making her eyes burn, but she blinked it back. "It still hurts though."

"I know." Kurama sighed. "I was hoping my warning would stop her, but she brushed it off. Her last words to me were you can't escape destiny. You just need to embrace it."

"Yeah, I'm still trying to accept that." It unsettled Tsuki more than she wanted to admit. "But thank you for stopping me. I probably would've made the situation a lot worse." She paused for a moment, thinking about his interaction with the weirdo. "How do you feel about your match with Karasu?"

Kurama pressed his lips. "Karasu is superior to me in speed, power, even in his games of the mind," he confessed. "Training won't help me. I absolutely cannot beat him. Not as I am."

"Is there any way for you to change back to your demon form?"

"No, that's why I needed to see if Team Uraotogi had any information about the age reversal. If I can get my hands on it, I'll have a higher chance of winning."

Before Tsuki could reply, they heard rapid footsteps coming their way.

"Hey, Kurama! Tsuki!" Kuwabara sprinted across the field. "Bout time I found you guys!"

Tsuki frowned. She has been avoiding a lot of people. And she didn't even say much when Keiko and Yukina dropped Iku off.

Kuwabara touched his knees, catching his breath. "Come on. Please tell me you saw Urameshi run by."

"No," Kurama replied.

Tsuki eyebrow's furrowed. She hoped Yusuke was safe. He didn't even come back to the hotel last night or this morning. "I haven't seen him either."

"Really? But you just chased after him, Tsuki." Kuwabara scratched his head. "This is like some of these wild goose thingies. I was following some huge mega energy and then it all vanished. Genkai said some weird things and Yusuke wouldn't say nothing when he got up. And he followed her. He was angry. You tell me he was hiding from me right?"

Tsuki averted her eyes, staring at the ground. Mentally, she scolded herself. "I have to go. Come on Iku."

"Huh?" Kuwabara's voice became confused. "What's wrong with her?"

"Don't worry about it, Kuwabara," Kurama spoke. "Now what were you saying?"

The evening sun made natural shapes in the forest landscape. If Tsuki left now, she could enjoy the sun's final shade before night fell.

Tsuki winced as she zipped her track jacket. She glanced at her hand which was wrapped in bandages. It didn't hurt as much, but it was still bleeding. Bruises and cuts also covered her leg and ankles.

"Iku," Iku laid on her bed, giving her a worried look.

"Don't worry, Iku," Tsuki assured. "Once we're done at the waterfall, I'm sure I'll be ready for my match tomorrow." She looked forward to her water cleanse. Tsuki had to clear her head and heart of all the bad things.

Tsuki heard a soft knock at her door. "It's open," she stated while lacing up her boots.

Yukina opened the door and smiled. "Hey, Tsuki. May I come in?"

Tsuki returned the smile while Iku barked happily. "Of course. Is there anything the matter?"

"No, nothing at all." Yukina closed the door. In her hand was a thick book. "I just wanted to check in on you to see if you're alright. I can tell your spirit was down this morning."

"I'm fine. The tournament has been stressing me out," Tsuki admitted. "Thank you for asking and checking in on me."

"No problem. Oh no." Yukina's soft hand touched Tsuki's wound. "What happened here? Are you okay?"

"Yes, this injury came from my match with Kurama," Tsuki explained, shrugging her shoulders. "We were doing training for our final match tomorrow."

"That's good. Do you need me to heal it?"

"I was just going to head to the waterfall with Iku. Nothing is wrong with your powers. I just need to heal my body and spirit for the final match. A lot of terrible things have been happening lately."

Yukina let go of her hand. "Waterfall? That's perfect." Her eyes sparkled while she petted Iku. "There's another reason why I came to visit you, Tsuki. I was reading my mother's book and noticed she did a lot of rituals during the moon phase. Have you heard of moon water?"

"No, I haven't."

"Well, my mother used it to quickly heal wounds for our village. Since the full moon is coming out today, I wanted to see if we can both try it out."

"That'll be great. I'm sure I can use the water during the finals." Tsuki thought about her interaction with the moon. "I never knew the moon had magical abilities. I mean my mom adored the moon. And I always liked to stare at it ever since I was a child."

"I didn't know either until I read my mom's book," Yukina explained. "Mother moon loves all of her children. She'll be happy to help if you just ask."

"Perfect, let's head out then." Tsuki grabbed her towel. "Do we need anything for this ritual?"

"Just two canteens. They probably have some downstairs." Yukina glanced at Genkai's tidy bed. Her hat was placed in the middle. "Where's Genkai? I haven't seen her for a while."

Tsuki touched her aching heart. It was still too soon to tell her. "She's gone. I honestly don't know when she'll be back." She paused to catch her breath. "Where's Keiko, Botan, and Shizuru?"

"Botan is doing her duties. Keiko and Shizuru decided to head to the beach," Yukina answered. "They wanted me to come but I decided to stay in the room. Keiko was worried about Yusuke too. Puu has been so down lately."

"I'm sure Yusuke is fine." Iku jumped down and followed Tsuki to the door. "We should head out now while the sun is still out. Inari will take us there so we won't have to travel far."

"Alright, I'll leave my book here. I'll get it when we come back." Yukina placed her book on the dresser. "Did your grandfather settle in?"

"Yes, he's with Koenma now," Tsuki replied while closing the door. "They have a lot to discuss. I'm just glad he's here. I really miss his presence."

"That's great. I look forward to meeting him," Yukina stated sincerely.

The girls and Iku made it to the first floor and found two canteens and a rice ball for Inari. The sun was slowly setting as they exited the hotel.

Tsuki unraveled the rice ball. "Inari, come out."

Inari's soul appeared in front of Tsuki, growing into her beautiful fox form. Tsuki gave her the rice ball and she ate it with pleasure. The priestess giggled when the fox goddess licked her.

"I miss you," Tsuki stated while hugging her. "You're going to be a great help with my match tomorrow."

"Iku!" Iku approached the fox goddess and barked. They both wagged their tail expeditiously.

"Hey, Inari." Yukina rubbed Inari's back. "It's been such a long time. I'm glad you're alright."

"That's right. The last time you've seen her was in Tarukane's estate," Tsuki stated. "Time sure flies fast."

They got on Inari's back. Iku sat between Yukina's legs while she sat behind Tsuki.

"Inari, let's fly," Tsuki commanded. "The waterfall isn't too far from here. Hopefully, I'll be able to spot it."

Inari flew high in the air. Tsuki fixed her gaze on the landscape. Seeing the island in the air was breathtaking. No wonder Jin enjoyed flying so much.

Yukina hummed a tune, enjoying the view. "How do you feel about the finals?"

"I have a lot of mixed emotions about it," Tsuki confessed. "Watching Team Toguro's semi-finals was dreadful. I'm confident about my abilities, but at the same time, I'm worried about the others. They're not going to show any mercy."

"Reminds me of my experience with Tarukane," Yukina explained. "He didn't show any mercy towards me or other people. I just hope everyone makes it out of here alive. They already shed too much blood in this awful tournament."

"You're right about that," Tsuki thought about Genkai. If they weren't going to show mercy, then she wasn't going to show any sympathy. "It's time to end this."

They enjoyed the ride making small talk. When she heard the familiar roar of the waterfall, Tsuki gazed down. "Inari, down here." She breathed, pointing.

Inari slowly drifted down to the ground. She landed gracefully next to the calm water and growled.

"Wow," Yukina's eyes wandered around. "It's beautiful."

"Yeah," Tsuki blushed, remembering her and Hiei's moment. "It's my favorite spot on this island."

Tsuki got down and patted Inari's head. "You can stay and rest here for now."

Yukina glanced at the sky as she jumped down. "We still have some time before the moon comes out."

"Perfect," Tsuki unzipped her jacket and took off her track pants. "I'll heal my body until then. Would you like to come in the water with me?"

"Oh, I didn't bring my swimsuit," Yukina stated. "But I can play with Iku and Inari while you swim."

The water was refreshing when she dived in. Tsuki felt instant relief. She enhanced her spiritual energy, allowing the cool water to heal her body.

"How are you feeling?" Yukina asked. She and Iku placed their feet and paws in the water.

"Better," Tsuki admitted, glancing at her healed hand. She swam deeper. The sun had vanished completely and the stars had just begun to show themselves in the sky's deepening dark. The moon had not risen yet, but Tsuki could feel it approaching. She had always felt a strange kinship with the moon, but she had never felt it as powerfully as she did right now. "I'm going to head to the waterfall."

The waterfall flowed smoothly. Tsuki threw herself under, enjoying every minute of the cool water splashing all over her body. She shuddered a bit when the night breeze passed by.

"Look," Yukina pointed at the sky, smiling brightly. "Mother moon."

The moon lit up the world, shining its ethereal light on the island. The priestess and ice maiden instantly became beguiled by its beauty.

Tsuki beamed and swam back to the surface. She dried her hair and body. "What do we do now?" Tsuki asked after she put on her tracksuit and boots.

Yukina grabbed her hand. "We dance for her."

They spun around and swayed their arms, giggling and allowing their bodies to move freely.

Inari and Iku watched in delight, circling them while their tails swayed side by side.

The girls leaped like they were floating in the air. The rush of the wind, the feel of the moon's energy, and the smiles on their faces brought their spirits high.

Clouds drifted away from the full moon, drenching them with soft lunar light. The girls stopped dancing and stared.

"Mother moon," Yukina began, continuing to hold Tsuki's hand. "We stand before you in awe and with love. Please send your wonderful gifts from above. Let your powers heal, cleanse, and strengthen our power. We welcome you in this precious hour."

The moon was full and bright over their heads. The magic flowed through both of them, brilliant and sweet.

"Go ahead, Tsuki," Yukina urged. "Say something to mother moon."

Tsuki took a deep breath. "Mother moon, thank you for always being there when I was alone, frightened, or uncertain. I'm offering my prayers to rise above the darkness. With your powerful light, my heart will be released. Thank you for your wonderful love and support."

"Iku!" Iku barked and lifted his paw. Inari did the same thing. The lunar light brightened up their beautiful and soft furs.

Yukina stared at the water, giving Tsuki a canteen. "Let's collect the water blessed by the full moon."

They dip the canteens into the cool water. They closed the canteen and slipped the waters into Yukina's bag.

Tsuki's heart was filled with warmth and love. She brushed at her tears but more came. "Thank you, Yukina. I really needed this."

"No problem, Tsuki." A bright smile bloomed on the ice maiden's face. "Even in our darkest moments, we can still find happiness."

Inari and Iku instantly turned around and growled. Their attention was on something outside. Hunkering down into a crouch, they puffed out their furs with their twitching tails.

"Do you hear that?" Yukina asked.

It took Tsuki a few seconds to pick up what Yukina's sharper senses already had. She grimaced when she heard rustling in the bushes. "Who's there?" Tsuki didn't have to wait for that answer. She spotted bright yellow eyes on them.

"Oh, no." Yukina cast a nervous glance in her direction. "This can't be good."

Off to the sides, Tsuki detected more movement. God. She couldn't believe it. More than a dozen creatures were coming their way.

Shadows crept closer with a mass of dangerous teeth beneath cold, focused eyes. The creatures resemble wolves, with dark gray fur and eyes that glow. On their backs were wings that were nearly as tall as their body.

Tsuki tried to transform her bracelet, but it didn't work. A sick feeling rose in her gut. "This is Kana's doing." She looked at Inari who stood in front of her and Yukina. "Luckily I brought Inari out before we got here."

"And you have me as well," Yukina assured. "Plus Iku too."

"Iku!" Iku barked, ready for some action.

The large wolf bat who stood in front barked a command and the entire pack moved as one, a wave of snarling fury.

Determination filled Tsuki's eyes. It was time to act now. "Inari, fox fire!"

Inari released her blue flames. A dozen coyotes caught fire and fell or writhed or ran screeching into the night. Some flew, focusing their attention on Yukina.

Yukina raised her hands. Fragments of ice flew towards the beasts, instantly striking their bodies.

"Nice, Yukina," Tsuki cheered while the wolves screeched and fled. It was wonderful seeing this side of her.

"I don't really like fighting," Yukina confessed. More ice was released from her hands. "But I'll do as I must to keep us safe."

"Iku!" Iku stood ready as three wolves circled him.

Tsuki's heart pounded. "Iku, watch out!"

"RAWR!" Iku's powerful voice easily pushed the wolves back. When another one tried to pounce. He did it again. "RAWR!"

"Wow," Tsuki blinked in surprise.

"What a strong little man," Yukina complimented

The wolves stopped their pursuit and stood by their leader, waiting for his next order.

"Leave now!" Tsuki demanded. "You and your friends won't get hurt anymore."

The leader of the wolves shook his head. Instead, what answered her was a set of howls.

Yukina shrank back, but Tsuki stood tall. There were too many. It seemed to come from all directions. The hairs on Tsuki's neck stood on end.

Damn that witch. She sent a whole army. "We have to get out of here," Tsuki said. Her voice scared her a little. "Right now."

They stalked towards them and Yukina tensed at her side. "I don't think they want us to leave, Tsuki."

"Well, they don't have a choice. Inari, fox lightning!" While the fox goddess shot her powerful attack, Tsuki, Yukina, and Iku got on her back.

Tsuki's heart thumped loudly as some of the wolves shook and collapsed. "Inari, fly!"

Inari immediately flew up. The wolves followed in the pursuit. They weren't fast but their determination was getting them closer and closer to them.

Tsuki glanced back, her skin growing cold. "They're very persistent."

"Yes, Kana is really trying to get you." Yukina's hands began to glow. "She obviously doesn't care about me either."

A wolf came closer, trying to nip Inari's leg. Yukina's ice blast instantly pushed the beast back.

"Fine, if it's a fight you want, then that's what you're going to get! Inari turned around!" Anger boiled Tsuki's skin. "Lightning wave!"

Inari released spirals of lightning toward the flying beasts. The wolves shook uncontrollably, dropping like flies as they fell one by one.

"Nice attack, Inari," Yukina praised.

"Iku!"

"Yes, we should be able t-" Tsuki stopped talking when she heard Inari screech in pain. She felt a tug on her left side. Glancing down, a wolf bat bit into her guardian's leg.

Yukina used her powers to try to get the beast off, but his grip was still tight.

A twinge of worry pressed on Tsuki's chest. She lowered herself and kicked the beast's bloody face. "Let her go!"

Iku took a deep breath. "RAWRRRRRR!"

The wolf finally released his grip, crashing into the tree before dropping to the ground.

Tsuki rubbed Inari's head. Her leg leaked with blood, but it wasn't too serious. "Let's get out of here." Before they could escape, more flew above them, ready to pounce.

"Tsuki, duck!" Yukina's ice flew at them, but one was able to dodge and shoved Tsuki off of Inari.

"Tsuki!" Yukina screamed.

"Iku!"

Tsuki kicked and punched the wolf bat away from her. The beast tried to nip until Yukina's ice shoved him away.

"Thanks, Yukina!" Before Tsuki could crash into the tree, Inari's teeth grabbed her jacket. Tsuki breathed in a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Inari." Her heart dropped when she heard her fabric ripping.

"Hold on tight!" Yukina yelled. "Inari is going to land!"

The fox goddess tried her best to avoid the trees, but the branches cut and bruised Tsuki's skin. With a clear and careful landing, Inari laid Tsuki down gently.

Yukina immediately got down. "Are you okay?" She touched Tsuki's shoulder. "That was a close call."

"I agree." Tsuki lightly smiled while picking up Iku who licked her face. "I'm just glad we're all here. Now let's think of a plan befor-"

"OWOOOOWOOO!" The wolf leader came out of the bushes. Behind him was his army ready to pounce by his command.

Tsuki backed away slowly. "They don't know when to quit." She gasped when a few of them crept towards Yukina.

Yukina cringed, back against a tree. Wide-eyed and pale, she stared in horror at the wolves cornering her.

The wolf leader howled. His army sprinted at them at full speed.

I have to protect Yukina. "Fox wheel!" Inari's five fires hit the wolves, retreating them back to their group.

"Get out of here, Yukina!" Tsuki yelled, shaking off the wolf as its claws ripped into the bare skin of her leg, nearly toppling her over. "Kana wants me dead more than you!"

"But what about you, Tsuki?" Yukina's eyes grew wide and sorrowful.

"Don't worry about me! Just go!" Tsuki glanced at her fox goddess. "Inari, separate us now! Fox fire!"

Inari inhaled. Before the wolves could pounce at Yukina, Inari's huge flames blocked their path.

"Protect Yukina!" Tsuki ordered. She faced the wolves. "Use your powers if you must!"

"Please, be careful!" Yukina yelled, getting on Inari's back. "We won't be separated for too long!"

"Hey!" Tsuki yelled at the wolf bats, trying to draw them toward her. "Tell the bitch if she wants me, she needs to try harder!" Sure enough, they turned on her, teeth bared and drool coming out of their mouths.

Tsuki broke into a run, headlong through the woods. She hoped to put as much distance between them as she possibly could.

The moon lighted her path. Tsuki continued to sprint despite the pain in her calves and the burning in her lungs.

Distress creased Iku's face. "Iku."

"Don't worry, Iku. I ju-ahh!" Tsuki's foot snagged on a root and she tumbled headlong to the ground. She shifted to a seated position, wincing at her skin knees.

"Iku, are you alright?" She smiled when he shook his body and nodded. Close off in the forest, the leader howled and she shivered. Tsuki stumbled to her feet and held Iku tightly, heading into the darkness.

Trudging through the woods, exhaustion made Tsuki sway. Crunching hit her ears from behind, accelerating the already rampant pounding of her heart.

Tsuki stopped in her tracks. Movement caught her eyes. Terror held her and its grip, rendering her unable to move in the face of the wolves.

They were only toying with me. The priestess stood in the middle as they circled her. They knew I couldn't escape from them.

Tsuki could have sworn the leader was smiling when he showed his sharp teeth. The wolves licked their lips while they gaped at Tsuki and Iku like gourmet meals.

Oh hell no. If they think I'm just going to stand here while they chew us out. They have another thing coming.

Tsuki placed Iku down and picked up a branch that had about the same height and weight as a baseball bat. She just positioned it in her hands when two of the wolf bats jumped her. Claws and teeth bit into her, but she held her own surprisingly well as she tried to remember everything she learned in the last two months about fighting bigger and stronger opponents.

The priestess didn't hesitate. Not for a second. One of them she managed to beat to the ground, dead or unconscious she didn't know. The other was still coming on fast and furious. His companions, especially the leader, seemed ready to join him.

"RAWR!" Iku's power managed to push some of them back for a few distances.

"Iku, stay close to me!" Tsuki urged. She could see the hunger in their eyes as they watched Iku. Suddenly, there was a terrible, sharp pain in Tsuki's side, and she knew the wolf's jaws had closed on her flesh, and now the animal was shaking her, tearing at her flesh, ripping it, digging deeper.

"AHHHH!" The excruciating pain made Tsuki sink to her knees. "Let go of me!"

The wolf released her by the command of the leader. He licked his lips as blood dripped from his mouth.

Tsuki grabbed Iku and scooted back to the tree. They were going to take their time, especially with her.

Slowly, they crept. The leader in front. After his companions were done, he was going to deliver the fatal attack.

Tsuki shuddered, hugging Iku tightly. She wanted to close her eyes but that wouldn't do any good. The witch enjoyed her fear.

"Darkness flamethrower!"

Midnight flames pierce some of the wolves from behind. As they screeched in pain, the rest turned to the new arrival.

Tsuki's heart leaped. Hiei. Seeing the fire demon's face, she couldn't resist giving him a light smile.

He held her gaze, and something warm, wonderful, and powerful shot between them. When one wolf dashed at him, he raised his hand. Fingers splayed wide.

A flash of dark flames erupted from his upraised hand and the wolf dropped to the floor. An eight-inch hole was burned clear through his body.

The wolves stood strong, still compelled to follow Kana's orders, though also clearly afraid of the new opponent.

"You still want to try me, wolves?" Beams of purest midnight fire escape from Hiei's hand. The first wave of wolves caught fire instantly. They turned in terror and raced into the darkness with their brothers, setting off complete panic.

Some burned as they ran and set alight dry shrubbery. The flesh burned black. The smoke was brown. The leader turned tail and ran into the night. He was no longer fearless, no longer leading, but following, racing to keep up with his beaten army.

For a moment, neither Tsuki and Hiei moved as they stared at each other.

Hiei's gaze dropped to her body. He took a step toward her and then halted. His nostrils flared as the pupils of his eyes dilated. "You're injured."

"I'm fine."

"No, you aren't." His gaze swept over her, stopping at her midsection. "You're bleeding bad."

"I'm fi-." Tsuki barely finished her sentence. She touched her forehead as her world began to spin.

Within the blink of an eye, Hiei was directly in front of her, holding her steady from collapsing. His face settled in a stern expression. "I told you."

A bitter taste lingered in Tsuki's mouth. "I swear that witch is going to get it." She gasped, eyes widening. "Yukina! I hope she's alright!"

"She is," Hiei confirmed. "Your fox protected her. She's coming right now."

Tsuki finally noticed his Jagan eye was wide open. And his right arm was severely damaged. Worse than last time. "That's why you came to me. You knew I was in danger."

"Correct," Hiei answered, placing her back against the tree.

Two figures suddenly caught Tsuki's eye. "Yukina! Inari!"

"Tsuki!" Yukina yelled on top of Inari. "I'm glad you're alright!"

Hiei stood up straight. When he let her go, her skin was warm from the gentle pressure of his fingers.

Tsuki smiled brightly, clutching her waist. "You have no idea how glad I am to see you safe, Yukina."

"Iku!" Iku confirmed.

Yukina got down, huffing. "I was so worried. They stopped attacking when Inari shot her lightning wave," she exclaimed, clearly flustered. When she spotted Hiei, Yukina greeted him with a shy smile. "Oh, hello."

"Hello," Hiei greeted his sister.

"He saved me," Tsuki exclaimed. "If it wasn't for him, those stupid wolves would've chewed me out."

Yukina expressed gratitude. "Thanks for helping her."

"It was no big deal," Hiei replied with a shrug.

Inari came toward Tsuki and whimpered. Red marks from the wolves' claws appeared on her sides and legs but she seemed alright.

"I'm fine, Inari," Tsuki assured with a pained look on her face. "It's not that bad."

"Yes, it is." Hiei's eyes narrowed. "It needs to be closed before you lose more blood."

"Let me help." Yukina came closer and grabbed one of the canteens. "I'm sure the moon water will close it." With her hand glowing, she pressed it on Tsuki's body, pouring the water on her wound.

The moon water instantaneously relieved the pain. Relief rose in Tsuki's chest. She shot Yukina with a grateful look. "This water is amazing." Tsuki gazed affectionately at the full moon. "Thank you, mother moon."

Yukina's eyes brightened. "I'm glad it's working." Within minutes the wound closed. Tsuki's body looked good as new.

Iku licked Tsuki's face. "Iku."

"I know." Tsuki hugged him, relieved that he didn't become a chew toy. "I'm glad I feel better too."

"Look!" Yukina pointed. "What's that in the sky?"

They all glanced up. A powerful energy blast surged into the dark sky before vanishing into space.

Tsuki beamed. "That's Yusuke."

"Such power," Hiei stated in amazement.

"Wow," Yukina marveled.

"He can beat Toguro," Tsuki declared confidently. A few tears dripped down her face. I hope you were able to see it, Genkai.

"We should head back," Hiei began. "I don't want the twisted witch to have any more ideas."

"Right." Tsuki rose. "Inari will take us back to the hotel. Do you want a ride?"

Hiei shook his head. "No, I'll meet you there." He instantly vanished.

The ride back was peaceful and soothing. Silence surrounded the island while the girls continued to enjoy the presence of the moon.

Inari landed back in front of the hotel. The girls sighed in relief as they jumped down.

"Inari, you can rest now." Tsuki hugged the fox goddess. "You were wonderful. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Goodnight, Inari." Yukina rubbed her head. "Thank you for helping me."

Inari growled, transforming her soul back into Tsuki's body.

Within a second, Hiei appeared next to them, focusing his eyes down on the cliff.

He must sense Yusuke's energy. Tsuki cradle Iku. She also sensed Yusuke's strong presence from up here. "Yukina, you can go ahead. I'm going to check on Yusuke."

"Alright." Yukina opened her bag, giving Tsuki the canteen. "Here you go. I'm sure you need this."

"Thank you, Yukina." Tsuki embraced her. The ice maiden had an open, kind nature, one that Tsuki truly adored. "For everything."

Yukina returned the hug. "You don't need to thank me, Tsuki. We're moon sisters now." Her eyes glistened. "Have a good night. You guys are going to do great tomorrow. Show that witch that nothing can defeat the power of light."

"I will."

Yukina's voice softened while whispering in her ear. "Make sure you use some of that water for Hiei. I'm sure it's been a while since you guys had some alone time."

Tsuki's cheeks redden. "Right."

Yukina giggled. "Goodnight and don't worry about my book. I'll get it tomorrow." She stared at Hiei one more time before heading into the hotel.

Tsuki stood next to Hiei. "His energy has gotten so powerful."

"Hmph," Hiei headed towards Yusuke's direction. "I hope he's able to handle it."

They went down the cliff and spotted Yusuke standing by the calm water. Kuwabara was with him, rambling about his new sword.

Hiei growled. "That damn fool is always talking." He glared at Kuwabara. "Do you think it's possible that you can shut up?"

Kuwabara jerked back in surprise. In his hand was a black hilt with no blade.

"Hey, Hiei," Yusuke greeted. He gave the priestess a head nod. "Tsuki."

Tsuki smiled warmly. The spirit detective appeared calm. "I'm glad you feel better, Yusuke."

Kuwabara scowled at the fire demon. "You really shouldn't sneak up on someone who's holding the world's most powerful sword!" Shock and disgust showed on Kuwabara's face when he looked at Hiei's arm. "Ahhhh! Ew, ew! What the heck happened to your arm?!"

Hiei gazed nonchalantly at his wound. "It wouldn't obey when I gave it a specific command. So I decided it needed to be punished."

Kuwabara freaked out. "Hehehehe, okay, he's weird. Way too much information for me." He looked around. "Let's stick to something safe like where's Kurama?"

"Kuwabara, I've been standing next to you for some time."

"Gahh!" Kuwabara jerked back while the fox demon came out of the shadows.

Kurama smiled. "A bit nervous, are we?"

I couldn't even sense his spirit energy. "Hey, Kurama." Tsuki waved.

"Hello, Tsuki." Kurama studied her for a moment. "You seemed to have been into a scuffle the last time we saw each other."

"Had another interaction with the witch," Tsuki explained. "Don't worry, she's going to feel my wrath in the finals."

Kuwabara shook his head in disgust. "I swear that witch is always messing with ya. I'm glad you're alright." His eyes wandered around. "Alright then. Now we just need to find the old lady."

Dead silence. Everyone avoided looking at Kuwabara's curious and confused eyes.

Kuwabara glanced at each of his team members. "Has anyone seen her?"

Tsuki's face fell. I have to tell him. He needs to know. She blinked back tears. "Kuwabara, Genkai is-"

"She's not coming," Yusuke interrupted her, still facing the water.

"Huh?" Kuwabara stepped closer to the detective. "What do you mean?"

"She's not well." Yusuke took a deep breath. "The old lady just needs some time to rest."

Tsuki, Hiei, and Kurama stared slack-jaw at Yusuke.

"Oh, that's unfortunate. Hopefully, she'll be better by tomorrow. We still need her." Kuwabara yawned, stretching his arms. "Well, I'm tired. I'm heading in, guys. Night!" He broke into a wide grin while sprinting to the top. "Maybe Yukina is still up. I'll show her my super awesome sword."

"Yusuke," Tsuki began after Kuwabara left. "Why didn't you tell him?"

"Because I couldn't," Yusuke confessed, clenching his fists. "I didn't have the balls to tell him that she's gone. Forever."

"I don't blame you. I didn't have the heart to tell him either." Tsuki gazed at the stars spilling over the sky. They stood out stark and crystalline in the clear air. "I miss her so much."

"Iku," Iku agreed.

"Me too." Yusuke ruffled Tsuki's untamed hair. "But I know she wanted us to end this strong."

"Shall we head back to the hotel?" Kurama suggested. "We need to get some rest for the finals."

"Yes," Yusuke answered, walking alongside Kurama. "I'm sure Keiko is worried about me too."

Before Hiei could follow them, Tsuki grabbed his hand, sending a pleasant shiver up her arm. "Hiei, before we go in. I would like to heal your arm if you don't mind."

Hiei scrutinized her closely. "Do you have enough spiritual energy to do that?"

"I'm sure the moon water will help. Now come." She led him up the cliff. "We can sit right here."

The moon hung in the blankness, a glowing sphere of silvery white. Iku laid next to Tsuki while she healed Hiei's arm. It took a bit longer, but with Tsuki's energy and the moon water, Hiei's arm was good as new. The priestess gently massaged it. "Thank you for rescuing me."

"You don't need to thank me." Hiei lifted his gaze. The moonlight made his eyes look stunning. And the heat in it sent a shiver dancing over her skin. "I'm here for you. Even with your training."

Jealous, Tsuki realized. She could see it in his eyes. How had she never noticed this before? "I didn't want to bother you," Tsuki confessed, releasing his arm. "You had other things to worry about and I didn't want to get in the way."

"You're never in the way." Hiei considered his words, and his expression softened. He always looked amazing, but she liked him best like this. "And you're not a bother. Your presence is needed, Tsuki. Even if I'm busy."

Looking at his eyes, Tsuki realized again how much he liked her. "Thank you, Hiei. For everything." Her heart rate picked up, and her skin flushed. "You're an amazing guy. And I'm glad to have gotten closer with you."

The air between them seemed warm and heady. That feeling of closeness and connection burned between them.

Hiei scooted closer to see her better. His crimson eyes were so dark and deep that Tsuki wanted to dive right in. Staring at them made her feel warm all over like they had flames inside.

Tsuki broke from his hard gaze feeling a bit embarrassed. At the moment, her appearance wasn't appealing at all after Kana's incident.

Slowly, carefully, his fingers reached out and traced the edge of her cheekbone, moving up the side of her face. She shivered when he lifted her chin, their eyes making contact. "You're beautiful, Tsuki. Inside and out."

In all the time they'd known each other, in all the time this attraction had built, he'd never told her she was pretty. Though Tsuki had been called that before, it felt marvelous hearing it from him.

Swallowing, Tsuki dragged her eyes up from his lips. She's been contemplating what it'd be like to kiss him. The thought both excited and scared her.

The burning in Hiei's eyes told her he wanted to do a lot more than they were, but he took things slow, maybe because he knew she was nervous. He let go of her face and put his arm around her body.

Tsuki's gaze lingered on the moon while resting her head against his shoulder, letting out a yawn. A sudden wave of tiredness overtook her body. Tsuki closed her eyes. Just for a second.

"Rest well, Tsuki," Hiei whispered softly in her ear.

Tsuki didn't feel him picking her up, or carrying her on his back. Her tired eyes opened for a moment and closed back, wrapping her arms around his neck. Iku cheerfully walked alongside them.

Thank you for being my light, Hiei.
