Hello. To those who are part of the Grim Tales community, I am Yugiohfreak54. Been on this site for a while, focusing on Yugioh Fan stories. To my other community readers, welcome to a new story that has been distracting me for the better part of a month. I remember Grim Tales from Down Below from my Freshman and Sophmore years of High School. Really good fan comic, but lost track.
Recently, I stumbled across several GT fan stories done by AkumaKami64 and was inspired by them to try my hand at one. This story will look into a 'what if' Grim was Sephiroth from FF7. The idea hit me after I rewatched FF7: Advent Children.
Disclaimer: I do not claim own anything in this story. Grim Tales is owned by Bleedman and Snafu. Grim Adventures by Atom Maxwell, FF7 by Square Enix
It had been a hard fought battle. Cloud finally found the inner strength that he had needed. Unleashing his power, he managed to strike at the returned Demon several times.
Landing on the ruins of Shinra Corp, he caught one of his swords. He looked up at the one winged being.
"Go back to where you belong. In my memories." Cloud said coldly.
The one winged being looked back at him. Flaring out his single wing, he smirked.
"I will...NEVER be a memory." He whispered.
The wing curled around the figure, dissolving into shadows and dust. But he was right. He was never going to be a memory.
GTOWR
The One Winged Angel. That was his title. But his name? His name was Sephiroth. A super SOLDIER infused with Mako. An experiment gone right. Until he found out what Shinra had done to him.
That led him to going insane and try to get revenge. Now here he was thwarted twice.
He found himself sitting at a desk, a cloaked figure before him.
"Ah, welcome back, Seph! We were in da middle of discussing something." The cloaked figure stated, a heavy Brooklyn accent in their words.
"Ah, yes...sorry, I was brought back to life temporarily. Please, continue with this job offering." Sephiroth stated, crossing his arms.
The cloaked being nodded.
"Ok, so as I was sayin', we're REALLY impressed with your kill count, man. Seriously, you did a LOT. We tink yer perfoit for the job as a Reaper."
"Reaper?" Sephiroth asked, curious.
Oh yeah. Grim Reaper. Death personified, death incarnate. They weren't talking metaphorically, rhetorically, poetically, or theoretically. They were talking Death straight up.
"You'd be goin' round ta various countries of a world we'll assign ya to and reap people's and animals souls. Everything has ta die after all."
"I see, I see...I am sensing a but here though." Sephiroth stated.
"Ah, knew you'd catch onto that. Sadly, you'd be given a new form, a new name, da works. No offense, but yer current form? It's WAY too overpowering for this world." The cloaked being said. "That isn't ta say we won't LET you use your old form."
The drawback was that it would be a one time deal. Once he used it up, that was it. He'd never go back to being Sephiroth. Inquiring about the time limit, the One Winged Angel was told he'd have a year in his old form.
"But like I said, after that, kaput. No more One Winged Angel of Death. You'd be in back to your Reaper form."
"...say, hypothetically, I don't accept this job. I get sent to hell or some version of it?" The former SOLDIER asked.
Yes. Despite his kill count, it was still considered genocide. People upstairs frowned a little heavily on it and they would send him below. But that was they were for. Their company would allow him to work it off. Sephiroth hummed in thought.
"...will I remember my old life?"
"Oh yeah, yeah! We're not THAT cruel! Seriously, the reason we give all of the Reapers chances to go back to their old selves is in case of an Armageddon level alarm. Rare, but shit happens." They said.
Sephiroth had one final question. How often did Reapers find love? He didn't really have anyone like that home, but as they had said, shit happens. The being laughed.
"You do not know how often we get asked that, Seph. It is actually more common then ya think! Reapers always find love in the oddest of places. Hence once again, the one time deal of being alive again. But it only will work if ya REALLY love the guy or girl ya find. So what do you say? Want ta be a Reaper?"
Sephiroth thought a few moments before nodding. The being offered a hand which he shook. Once they were done shaking hands, there was a ding. Several papers appeared on the desk.
"Ah, dat's the paperwork. Now let's see...seriously?! How original can these idiots get!? Grim. Reaper. That's yer name. Honestly, how stupid are these guys! I miss our old name director. HE at least thought of some pretty good names..."
Sephiroth was given a black cloak which he put on. He blinked, finding himself looking like a skeleton.
"Dat is so weird...AH! Me voice!" Grim said in shock.
Ah, the being had forgot to mention that. Again, the voice change was mandatory. Grim nodded, understanding. A scythe was given to him.
"Now, we're sending you to an Earth that is just entering the Stone age. Expect a lot of animals and people dying. Just swing your scythe and reap the souls. Have fun!"
Grim gave a salute and stepped through a portal. He grinned. This was going to be fun.

Millions of years had passed since Sephiroth started his new life as Grim Reaper. For those millions of years, he reaped souls of the living. He was content with his life.
But all that changed. One assignment changed his entire afterlife. He was sent to reap the soul of a dying hamster. The hamster, a Mister Snuggles, belonged to a boy named Billy and his friend, Mandy. They wagered to win the soul of the pet against him being their 'best friend forever'.
He accepted. The challenge? Limbo. A contest which he lost due to better cheating on behalf of the girl.
Because of that, Grim was a 'Friend' to the two for all eternity.
In reality, he was a slave. For years, he put up with so many adventures with them. But all too soon, their sands of time ran dry.
But he didn't reap them. For one reason or another, he didn't reap them. Something that Mandy really hated. She had released him from the 'bet' they had. Grim returned to his work with renewed vigor.
Years past and Mandy grew into a beautiful, but deadly woman. She managed to become the Mayor of a massive city called Megaville while being a part time assassin. It was here, that Grim had returned.
GTOWR
It was an average day at the office for Mandy Kramer. Twenty-nine, mayor of one of the largest cities in the nation and bored. The blonde woman sighed, her mind wandering to her past, her childhood and friendship with Death itself. All of the crazy adventures they had together.
Before she got too far down memory lane, there was a knock at the door. She saw her secretary poke her head in.
"Excuse me, Ma'am. There's a mister Joe Black here to see you. Says he has a pressing appointment with you."
"Send him in." She said, heart starting to pick up.
In he came. Tall, blonde, tanned and wearing a black suit. Hmph, that was on par with the old bonehead. She stood up from her chair.
"Is it time?" She asked for what felt like the umpteenth time.
"Yes...however, before I do that...I have a question for you. A very important one." Joe said, making her blink.
Her heart stopped as he dropped to one knee, pulling out a tiny crimson ring box. Opening it revealed a skull ring, a large diamond on it.
"Will you...marry me?" Joe asked.
She would never admit it, but her mind shorted out then. Grim...Grim was proposing to her? HER of all people?! Shocked didn't even cover it. He chuckled a bit.
"Well, even if you say no, it was worth it to see you shocked for once in your lifetime." Joe cracked.
"...please tell me that you are not going to use a namby pampy speech about me making you a better being." She retorted coldly, a light blush on her face.
"In a way...you did and did not." Joe said, standing up and grabbing her shoulders.
She had driven him to the edge of rage with how she had treated him. Humiliated him. Drove him around the brink of insanity with the dark aura she gave out. She wasn't making him a better person.
"You are making me be reminded of what I am, WHO I am! DE GRIM REAPER!" Grim roared, tearing away his false disguise.
She stood there, stock still and shocked. The aura, the power...it actually got her blood pumping. Barely hearing the ten second limit, she began to think rapidly.
Marrying Death itself. The thought had NEVER crossed her mind at all. In fact, it never even entered her mind! She was never one for romance, but this...well, it was romantic in a way.
"Am I going to morph into that creature like I did in my youth?" She asked.
"Nah, yer terrifying enough as is." Grim commented, making her blush return.
At the last five seconds, she sighed.
"...I do." She said, stopping the scythe.
It was the beginning of a new chapter in her life...and discovering who Grim truly was.
GTOWR
It was a whirlwind of a ceremony for them. For the honeymoon, Hawaii was chosen at Mandy's request. Currently, Grim was in the bathroom. Mandy, his new wife, was waiting for him. He gulped, nervous. She had only known him as Grim, but not as his past life.
Pulling out a necklace, he looked at a tiny white orb on it. He saw his past face appear in it. One time use only. Well, at least he'd make her shocked again. Grim smirked.
"Well...let's see what Mandy tinks of me old self. Shame. I actually liked bein' Grim..." Grim said, popping the orb into his mouth.
GTOWR
Mandy laid out on the bed, dressed in a pink nightie, heels, and underwear. The ceremony had been quick, much to her liking. But the thing with having kids with Grim...that was going to be difficult.
The bathroom door opened and steam billowed out. Did the bonehead actually take a shower? Well, his fault for making her-
All synapses in her mind shorted out. Sitting up, she saw a figure step out of the bathroom and it wasn't Grim. Or...maybe it was?
The figure was two hundred centimeters tall with silver hair that reached down his back. He was muscled, athletically so. His skin was alabaster white, shimmering from the water.
But it was the eyes. Mandy's breathing hitched in her throat when she met the eyes of the man. They were bright cyan with slit, catlike pupils. The power in them drew her in. These were the eyes of a man who had slaughtered billions and did it all with a smile.
She felt like she was in the presence of some Dark God. She watched him approach, eyes still locked with his.
"G-grim?" She asked, stunned.
"Yes. I am the one you call Grim. But I have another name as well. A true name." The man said, sitting down on the bed and crawling to her.
"W-what is it?" Mandy asked, cursing herself for sounding so...vulnerable before him.
"Sephiroth." He whispered, capturing her lips in his.
It was that day that several things happened at once around the world. Mount St. Helens exploded for a second time, the Trump Hotel collapsed into a giant sinkhole, and dozens of earthquakes hit the southeast part of Asia.
GTOWR
Mandy was currently laying with her head against her husband. The past three hours kept on replaying in her mind, her face a beet red. The power, the passion, everything about Grim...or was it Sephiroth now?...had made her WAY more excited then she had thought.
Hell, she had a SMILE on her face! A GENUINE contented smile!
"How long?" She asked suddenly.
"Hm? How long until what?" Sephiroth asked, looking down at her.
Looking up, she lost herself in those cyan eyes again. Biting her bottom lip, she tore herself away.
"How long until you...go back to being bony?"
The former slayer of Midgar ah'd in understanding then. He gave her the answer. One year. He would have this form for one year before returning to his Reapersona. Mandy quickly straddled him then, her eyes blazing.
"Then let's make it last." She growled, capturing his lips in hers.
It was a night neither of them would ever forget.
Well, there ya go. Now, for some idea of future chapters and how the characters might be.
Minnie, Junior, and other child characters are gonna be aged up. Ages will be between fourteen and seventeen.
Mandy - Okay, full disclosure here? I am going to have Mandy be a tad OOC but only when it comes to Grim/Sephiroth and her kids. I get it, really I do. She's attracted to power and only power. But its hard for me to really type her out as a total and utter bitch like we see in the Fan Comic. She is only going to be like that to her enemies. In regards to her kids, she's gonna care for them. Not publicly, but privately, she will worry, she will care, she will be motherly.
Grim - He's gonna be pretty much the same, just have a bit more of a backbone to say no to any plans Mandy has.
Junior - He is gonna be a prodigy. He won't be what we first see in the Halloween Town arc. Jealous of his sister? Nope. He will be a lot more mature about the whole thing. Being the son of Grim/Sephiroth and Mandy, he is gonna be badass.
Minnie - Not gonna die during the Halloween Town Arc. Still gonna be badass like her brother.
Now, updates. Fans of my new story, I only plan on updating this one for every two chapters of Rise of the Dimensions. That is my top priority right now. But I hope you stick around for this experiment of mine regardless.
