And so time continued to flow onward. New pack members arrived in the Hunting Grounds. Ylwa learned from them that Jergen had come along and stolen Farkas and Vilkas away from her pack shortly after the ambush. She also heard whispers from the others that it was Jergen who had sent Rezso to the Hunting Grounds in his attempt to collect Farkas and Vilkas. No wonder he'd had nothing but nasty looks for Ylwa since the time he had arrived. Ylwa was disappointed that she would be receiving no more updates on her sons from arriving family members, but was not terribly devastated that he had taken them home with him, especially not after Ralfina arrived at the Hunting Grounds as well.
Ylwa continued to stop back by that strange place she had discovered on her way home from "dying". Those who lived here certainly were odd indeed. They seemed to be rather peaceable. They talked of many things - their lives back in Skyrim, the battles they'd fought (some of which Ylwa was certain must have been fabricated), the families and friends that they left behind, and how they were waiting for someone to come and set them free. Free from what? Ylwa wondered. Are they prisoners here? They seemed to come and go as they pleased, but maybe they were bound to this area, not allowed to participate in the pack wars? That must be it. They had to be captives of some sort. After that, Ylwa was much more cautious when she found herself wandering near their territory.
From what Ylwa could gather, her pack was stronger than many packs, but definitely weaker than others. The stronger packs (and the occasional alliances of a few weaker packs) were the ones that kept her family on the move. The land they had wasn't better than what the stronger packs possessed. As a matter of fact, the territories near where they lived seemed to be rotated around between all the different packs in that area. Ylwa grew quite sick of it, and more than once set out alone to find her own adventures and purpose.
Ylwa found her travels to be more satisfying than anything else the Hunting Grounds seemed to offer. She discovered that not all packs were caught up in the vicious cycle of chasing each other's tails. She found a few that were quite peaceable and quite interesting to visit with. (Whether they only chose to be peaceable because they didn't have the numbers to participate in the larger packs' constant struggle, she couldn't determine.) She also discovered different types of people, just as Jergen had described to her. She found elves with pointy ears and ways that were slightly more dignified than her people's (in most instances). She found large creatures that also had pointy ears, but looked almost as beast-like in their non-beast form as they did in their beast form. These were called Orcs. And she also found humanoid cats called Khajiits. Cats that were also wolves. Ylwa was amused by this, and by their way of talking.
