Poison Ivy had managed to take control of Gotham by sending concentrated pheromones to all its inhabitants, and in particular to Batman, whom Poison Ivy had made her slave. Gotham's inhabitants, under the effect of the concentrated pheromones, were making tags all over Gotham, writing "Ivy" on the walls, and all Gotham's walls now bore the inscription "Ivy". Poison Ivy had created her own newspaper, which did nothing but write articles in her honor, and all the journalists who worked for Poison Ivy's Ivy Post were under the control of Poison Ivy's pheromones. But Poison Ivy couldn't stand the continued existence of literature that wasn't intended to glorify her, so Poison Ivy decided to launch what she called the Autodafé Project, and Poison Ivy ordered all Gotham residents to burn in the public square all their books that didn't conform to Poison Ivy's way of thinking, and she also ordered all Gotham residents to subscribe to the Ivy Post. However, Mister Freese and his henchmen were immune to Poison Ivy's pheromones, but Poison Ivy knew that they all smoked, so Poison Ivy kissed several cigarettes with her poison lips and sent one of her spies to place these cigarettes in the packs of Mister Freese and his henchmen, who ended up smoking them and dropping dead. So now, not only had Poison Ivy succeeded in taking control of Gotham .
