Chapter 1: The Journey begins

Our story begins with someone walking into a room, looking around the whole room is shrouded in dark. Suddenly a light shines down in the center of the room, standing there appears to be a man looking to be around 50 dressed in a lab coat. The man looks up at whoever entered the room ready to talk.
Old man: "Hello there, glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of pokemon! My name is Oak and I'm a professor in the study of pokemons."
Reaching into his pocket he pulls out a small red and white orb, tossing the orb in the air causes it to open releasing a small light that takes the form of a small creature with a skull on its head carrying a bone.
Oak: "This is a pokemon, our world is inhabited by various kinds of pokemon. We humans live together with pokemon, as companions helping in everyday situations and even battle together. I made it my life's work to study everything I can about pokemon, because despite all we know about pokemon they still remain a mystery. However I'm no longer the young adventurer I used to be, that's why I enlist the aid of young trainers ready to start their journey into the world of pokemon."
Walking over to a window he opens it letting light into the room and giving us a view of the outside. Leaning out of the window staring off at the landscape, Oak takes a moment before speaking again.
Oak: "What great adventures await for those who seek it? And what pokemon will they meet along the way? I wonder who will answer the call?"
The scene changes from inside the room to out the window looking out at the forest nearby, to straight up in the sky as three bird pokemon fly by. The scene changes again overlooking a small town near a forest, this is Pallet Town. In that town we see a girl with long brown hair reaching past her shoulder looking to be around ten wearing a blue shirt, red shorts and wearing a red and white hat, running through town. She stops in front of a small house and knocks on the door. After a little while the door opens, standing on the other end is a woman with long brown hair and light tan skin wearing a blue shirt and a long white skirt.
Woman: "Oh Maya hello, what brings you here?"
Maya: "Hi Mrs. Stars, is Orion here? I went over to Felix's home, but his sister said he was heading here."
Mrs. Stars: "Oh yes Felix did come over not that long ago, he called out for Orion and the two of them rushed off. I overheard them shout about heading for the Viridian Forest."
Maya: "So they decided to go there without me, did they, thanks Mrs. Stars." With that said she runs off towards the Forest as Mrs. Stars watch with a smile on her face.
Mrs. Stars: "Those three are full of energy as always, even more so since tomorrow is the big day." She looks up at the sky with a sincere look. "I know they'll be fine but I'm still going to miss all three of them, but I know that this is what they want...that this is what he wants."
The scene changes to deep in the wood where we find Maya walking through as she searches for the boys. After minutes of looking with no results she decides to take a break under a large tree.
Maya: "(exasperated sigh) Where could those two be? I've been up and down these woods and no trace of them. Come on guys, where are you?"
As she asks herself this she hears something in the air that catches her attention. The sound starts to get louder as she listens. Her attention is drawn to the sound of screams, following the screams she spots something in the distance. At first glance it appears to be a large cloud of dust heading for her, as the dust gets closer she spots something in the dust that looks to be two figures. Coming out of the dust the figures appear to be two boys about the same age as her, one boy has short brown hair wearing a green shirt and gray pants and the boy next to him has short spike black hair wearing a red and black hat, red shirt with black jacket over and black cargo pants. Seeing who they are, Leaf immediately recognizes them as her friends, the brown haired boy as Felix and the black haired boy as Orion, she starts running over them as they head towards her.
Maya: "Guys! There you two are, I've been looking all over for you-"
She stops in her tracks when she sees something right behind the boys, the dust clears to reveal a large angry swarm of beedrills chasing after the boys. Taking notice of this she turns around and runs away. Catching up to Maya, the boys greet her.
Felix: "Hi Maya, what are you doing here?"
Maya: "I came here looking for you two idiots! Why are these beedrills chasing you?"
Orion: "We kinda got too close to their hive and woke them up and now they're mad."
Looking back and seeing the swarm getting closer Orion grabs the other two putting them over his shoulder with ease then dashes forward, towards a large root, jumping over the root he ducks underneath it letting the swarm fly past them. Checking to see the swarm is gone, the three kids come out from the root and take a breath.
Felix: "whoo! That was close"
Orion: "You can say that again, I wasn't expecting us to be running for our lives when we decided to come here, did you?"
Felix: "Me neither but I guess that's what happens when you start climbing trees and not check to see if there is a hive in them."
The two boys start to laugh at the whole thing, but their laughter ends when they feel a chill run down their spines. Slowly turning around they see Maya with a menacing look on her face, the sight of this causes the boys to back away in fear.
Maya: "Lets see first you guys decide to head into the woods without me and then you get me chased by beedrills, nearly getting me killed. What do you have to say for yourselves?"
She slowly walks towards them, every step more menacing than the last.
Felix: "We thought about asking you to join us but then we thought you'd want some time to yourself, what with tomorrow being the big day and everything."
Orion: "That's right and you're always telling us not to disturb you when you're in the zone for something important."
Their reasons fall on deaf ears as she continues towards them, both backing away trying to escape, only to find themselves stopped by the large root. Looking up at Maya both boys look on in horror as her shadow envelopes them just before their screams echo throughout the forest. Time passes before things finally cool down, we now find the kids sitting on a branch of a very large tree watching various pokemon pass by. The boys looked bruised and beaten.
Maya: "So after beating on you two, I've finally calmed down."
Felix: "That's great cause you angry is scarier than a gyarados with a toothache. We've seen what that's like have we not?"
Orion: "Oh that poor fishing town, they never saw it coming."
Maya: "Getting back on track, are you guys nervous about tomorrow?"
Felix: "Nervous? (jumps up on branch) I'm excited, after so long we're finally gonna become pokemon trainers. I'm gonna get my first pokemon then I'm gonna catch more pokemon, battle tons of trainers, then after some time I'm gonna come back home and challenge my sister and prove who the best trainer is."
Orion: "So I take it, you know which starter you're going with?"
Felix: "Oh yeah I'm going with charmander."
Maya: "charmander really? I heard that they're hard to bond with."
Felix: "So? That's not a problem for me. I can bond with any pokemon if given the chance." Upon hearing this both maya and orion start laughing, their laughs are joined by a rattata. "What's so funny?"
Maya: "No offense but you can't even bond with that snubbull your family keeps around."
Felix: "Hey that snubbull is evil, she has it out for me. Always taking what's mine, my bed, my food, my bath time and she bites me when I let my guard down. I don't know why my mom keeps her around, I mean she never caught it, it's a wild pokemon that decided to hang around my house."
Orion: "Well not that this hasn't been a fun conversation but getting back on topic, what starter are going to pick?"
Maya: "Well since charmander is taken I'm gonna have to go with squirtle."
Felix: "May we ask why?"
Maya: "Most obvious reason would be since water pokemon are my favorite, it would make sense that my first pokemon should be a water type. Second reason is my research shows squirtle to be the most well rounded among the three that fits my style."
Felix: "Oh right your style is watching and getting enough data on your opponent before striking."
Maya: "The same battle style that made me the best trainer back at school with the highest win streak. Not to mention highly praised by our teachers and the town."
Felix: "Yeah sure you won most battles but not all of them, I've managed to beat you with my battle style, and many others as well."
Orion: "Battle style? All you're doing is powering through, calling move after move."
Felix: "That's how I battle, overwhelming my opponents with a barrage of attacks keeping them off balance."
Maya: "Not really much of a tactic. I'm surprised by how many battles you won with that style."
Felix: "That's how I do things and it's worked out for me. Besides, if we're talking about weird battle styles you might want to look over there." He gestures over to Orion. "Out of everyone's battle style we've seen, yours is the strangest to me. There's nothing special to it yet you and your pokemon seem to work so well with each other."
Maya: "That's true, it's like you and the pokemon just know what to do. What's your secret?"
Orion: "There's no real secret to it that I know of, it's like I can understand what the pokemon wants us to do and we go from there."
Maya: "I guess you just have a natural understanding of pokemon." Looking up at the sky she notices it begins to get dark. "It's starting to get dark, we better get home before the sun is gone, or we'll get in trouble."
Felix: "Yeah you're right, we should get and rest up for tomorrow, spend some time with my family one last time. Gonna be some time before I go back home."
Maya: "Same for me, it's gonna be hard at first leaving home, but that's part of the journey right?"
Orion: "Right, I'm sure lots of people felt like this. But this isn't something to stop you from going but to drive you forward."
Jumping off the branch he lands on the ground with a loud thud he appears ok. Looking up at his friends he smiles while they climb down.
Orion: "Besides, think of all the stories we'll bring back to tell everyone."
Felix: "Yeah and we know some people who are gonna want everything we did on this journey, don't we Maya?"
Maya: "Yeah yeah I know my grandfather likes to tell stories but he's not the only one and both of you know this."
Orion: "Ok you two that's enough, if you start arguing we'll be here all night."
The three friends begin to make their way out of the forest, as they walk off a small figure floats behind some trees watching them before flying off. After a while they finally reached the entrance to the forest, as they got closer they noticed two people standing there. Once close enough they see the two people are a woman who looks to be around nineteen with short brown hair, the other is a little girl who looks to be about eight years old with long black hair with pink streaks tied in pigtails on both sides of her head. Seeing who they were both Felix and Orion are surprised.
Felix/Orion: "What's my sister doing here?"
Walking towards the two girls Felix walks up to the older girl while Orion walks to the younger.
Felix: "Lori, what are you doing here?"
Lori: "I was running some errands and mom asked me to keep an eye out for you if I see you."
Orion: "What about you Rayne?"
Rayne: "I tagged along with Lori when she told me where she was going, thinking I could help her spot you dummies."
Orion rolls his eyes after hearing that, putting on an annoyed expression. Just then he spots something standing behind Rayne, a closer look he realizes what it is and smirks.
Orion: "I know mom trusts Lori to watch you, but I don't believe it's just you two here. Now is it?"
Rayne: "No it's not just us, someone else wanted to come along."
Walking out from behind Rayne a small pink creature emerges, upon seeing it the three recognize it as a snubbull. While Maya and Orion look happy to see it, Felix looks at it with annoyance.
Felix: "(Annoyed) Oh great what are you doing here Snubbull?"
Snubbull doesn't respond, she just walks over to Leon, once in front of him she stands there for a second then bites his leg. This causes him to start jumping around trying to shake snubbull off, as this goes everyone laughs at the whole scene. After a while snubbull lets go, once freed Felix looks at snubbull with rage.
Felix: "(Angry) alright that's it! You're going down you pink fur ball"
Snubbull responds with a bring it on gesture, seeing this Leon lunges at snubbull and the two begin rolling around the ground in a fight. The others begin to laugh again, as this is happening someone bumps into Orion knocking him to the ground. Everyone takes notice of this, recovering from the fall Orion looks up to see a man dressed in black with a big red R on his shirt.
Mysterious man: "Hey! Watch it kid"
Maya: "Hey! You bumped into him"
Mysterious man: "What'd you say to me?"
Maya: "You heard me bub, you should watch where you're going"
The man with the R starts walking towards Maya who stands her ground, before the man could reach Orion appears between them.
Orion: "Hey now no need for any trouble, you're right it was totally my fault and I'll watch where I'm standing from now on."
Hearing that the man stops his advance, the man backs away from them with a smug look on his face.
Mysterious man: "At least one of you punks knows to show respect."
Hearing this everyone looks annoyed at the man who doesn't notice.
Mysterious man: "Well seeing that I'm in a good mood I'll let you punks off."
The man begins to walk off towards the Viridian Forest, suddenly the man stops and turns facing the kids.
Mysterious man: "Hey, have any of you kids been in that forest recently?
Felix: Yeah we were, what's it to you?"
Mysterious man: "you kids didn't see any strange pokemon in there did you?"
Orion: Not unless you count laughing rattatas and angry beedrills as strange."
Mysterious man: "Nevermind you kids probably didn't see anything."
With that said the man walks off towards the forest, everyone watches as the man disappears from sight. Once gone everyone turns back towards each other to talk.
Leon: "That guy was weird"
Maya: "Not to mention rude"
Rayne: "What was up with that big R on his shirt? What's that supposed to stand for?"
Orion: "Ridiculous?" Everyone laughs hearing that, once the laughing dies down Maya looks over to Orion.
Maya: "You didn't need to stand in the way, I don't need protection."
Orion: "I know, but I wasn't saving you. I was saving that guy."
Maya: "(skeptical) Is that right? Do tell what you mean by that."
Orion: "As me and Felix stated earlier you are scary when angry, so there is no doubt you were gonna kick that guys ass. But I get the feeling that dealing with that guy is only gonna lead to more trouble."
Lori: "He is right, guys like that cause problems. The last thing you need is problems before the big day. Now with that done, let's all head back, I'm sure all your families would want to spend time with you three one last time before your journey."
With that said they start walking home, just then Orion stops when sense something causing him to stop and look back at the forest. Rayne is the first to notice this, making her stop and look.
Rayne: "Hey is something wrong?"
Orion: "No, just thought I felt a chill is all."
They start walking again catching up to the others before leaving Viridian city, after some time they finally reach Pallet town. Stopping at a sign by a crossroad, the group turns to face each other.
Felix: "Well I'll be seeing you all tomorrow, I've still got some packing to do and then spend some time with my family and this little furball."
Hearing this, Snubbull uses a sand-attack, kicking sand in Felix's face.
Felix: "Gahh! Alright thats it!, come here you."
Before the two could clash Lori stepped in between them.
Lori: "Alright you two that's enough for one day, come on let's go home, we'll see you guys tomorrow."
With that said she grabs Felix and snubbull and drags them away down one of the roads.
Maya: "Guess I'll be taking my leave as well, got to do my own packing before having dinner with my family, see ya guys."
Waving goodbye she walks down one of the roads before Orion and his sister go down another. Halfway through the walk Rayne looks over at Orion.
Rayne: "So are you going to tell me what happened back at Viridian city?"
Orion: "I'm not really sure, after that guy went into the forest I felt like something wasn't right."
Rayne: "Speaking of that guy, what do you think he meant by strange pokemon?"
Orion: "I can't be certain but he was probably talking about the phantom pokemon."
Rayne: "Phantom pokemon?"
Orion: "Yeah you know the old tales the old people in town like to talk about. Most of them talk about a mysterious pokemon that roams the Viridian forest, I think they call it Mew."
Rayne: "Are the stories true?"
Orion: "Not really sure, there's been a lot of people claiming to have seen it but no solid proof."
As the two continue their walk they approach a house, they soon spot their mom mrs. Stars standing at the entrance. Walking up to the house they stop in front of her.
Orion/Rayne: "Hi mom"
Mrs. Stars: "There you two are, do you two know how late it is?"
Orion: "Sorry mom we kinda got side tracked on the way here."
Mrs. Stars: "Were pokemon involved?"
Both kids look up at her with sheepish smiles as they nod.
Mrs. Stars: "You two are so much like your father when it comes to pokemon. Well I guess it's alright, since tomorrow is the big day and all. Now come on, I have a special feast for you two inside."
Moving to the side she gestures to them both to enter, the two quickly enter followed by their mom. Once inside they find a large spread of food at the dining table, with big smiles they rush to the table and begin eating, spending the rest of the night together. Later that night after dinner everyone gathers in Orion's room as he finishes packing.
Rayne: "So what are you going to do on this journey?"
Orion: Well the first thing I'm going to do is pick my starter, then I'm going to challenge the gyms so I can enter the Indigo League. All the while I'll be meeting all kinds of trainers and catching and befriending pokemons."
Rayne: "Have you decided which pokemon to go with?"
Orion: "We talked about this back in the forest, the others already decided on their choice. So I guess I'm going with Bulbasaur.
Rayne: "You're ok with that?"
Orion: "I wasn't really sure which one I was going to choose, but after hearing the others talk about their choice I'm good with Bulbasaur. Besides from what I read Bulbasaur is pretty reliable."
Mrs. Stars: "Alright you two it's' time for bed, it's a big day tomorrow."
With that said she begins to lead Rayne out of the room, before leaving she looks back as Orion gets into bed.
Mrs. Stars: "So you're finally going on your journey? It's not going to be the same here when you're gone."
Orion: "Don't say that mom, I promise to call as often as I can. Plus Rayne is more than enough to keep you on your feet while I'm gone."
Mrs, Stars: "I know but it's not easy for a mother to see her kids leave home no matter the reason. But I know I can't stop you, I can only hope you will be okay and have a great time."
Orion: "Hearing you say that makes this journey worthwhile. Well I'm off to bed, night mom."
Mrs. Stars: "Good night son."
With that said she turns off the lights as she exits the room while Orion gets into bed. Looking up at the ceiling Orion thinks of tomorrow, this causes him to remember everything that happened today. This makes him remember one thing above all, the strange feeling he got from the mysterious man and the forest. After some time thinking this over Orion quietly gets out of bed, puts on his clothes and quietly climbs out his window. Once on the ground he looks back at his home making sure he didn't wake anyone, seeing the lights are still off he makes a dash towards the Viridian forest, all the while in another room a figure watches him leave before going to bed.
