Chapter 619 Clothes Call
"
Scarlett texted Jax when she was near the hospital and he sent Piney out to wait for her. Sack was still by Tig's side monitoring his rants about fairytales, princesses and kissing princes to make sure he didn't mention the MC's business in case he needed to knock him out if he couldn't get him to change the subject.
"Hello, beautiful, glad you're here," Piney said. "Need some help with all your bags?"
"I've got them, thanks. How is everyone?" she asked.
"Alive and damned lucky to be that way."
"Jax told me about the white pick-up," Scarlett said sticking to the official story. She knew the real story of how almost the entire MC went down on a run was going to be much more interesting when Jax had a chance to tell her the truth. For now, she knew she needed to stick to his cover story.
"Yeah, I'm the only patched member that didn't go down," Piney said as he led her into the ER.
The guys were sitting in chairs in various treatment rooms wearing hospital gowns as they waited their turn for medical treatment. Scarlett had to bite the inside of her cheeks to keep from laughing or at least smiling at the sight of the big tough outlaw bikers in hospital gowns. Nothing takes the macho out of a man faster than a hospital gown although when she caught a glimpse of Jax, she thought he pulled it off pretty well.
"Thanks for coming," Jax said.
"I got everything. Want me to hand everything out to the guys?"
"Sure."
As she passed out the clothes, she checked on each of them to find out how they were feeling. On the front of each bag was a post-it with their name. Inside was a pair of blue athletic pants with a drawstring waist, a white T shirt and a pair of slide shoes. That hadn't been on Jax's list, but she thought the men might have swollen feet or ankles.
She explained that she'd sized up on some of the clothes because she figured they would have to be pulled over bandages and they wouldn't want tight form fitting pants.
"You're a life saver," Bobby told her.
"They cut some of our clothes off," Juice added.
She wanted to ask them where their cuts were but knew that she shouldn't ask questions. Jax would answer all her questions when they were alone.
"I hope it was at least a pretty woman," Scarlett said.
"Sadly, it was a burly guy named Verne," Juice replied.
"With thick fingers," Chibs added.
"I don't even want to know how you know that," Scarlett said and the men laughed.
Scarlett went and sat down next to Jax.
"How are you?"
"No internal bleeding. No broken bones just badly bruised ribs and I'm going to need some stitches."
"I would give you a comforting kiss, but I'm not allowed since I'm being punished," Scarlett whispered.
Jax's eyes narrowed as he looked at her.
"Are you mocking me?"
"Yeah," she said with a grin. "Here are your clothes. I got you slide shoes and the other guys too in case you couldn't get your shoes on."
"I didn't even think of that," Jax confessed. He looked down at his legs and noticed his ankles and feet were swollen. "I'm going to owe you big time."
"No discounts for you Prince Charming."
He got a text from Gemma telling him that Clay was going to need surgery to put pins in his leg, but they needed to call in an orthopedic surgeon. She'd called Luann to keep her company but there was no point in the MC coming by until tomorrow afternoon because Clay would be in surgery and recovery and couldn't have visitors.
Jax replied the MC would come by tomorrow afternoon to see Clay. He sent a text to the guys telling them they couldn't visit Clay until tomorrow afternoon.
He showed Scarlett the text he sent. She sent him a text message because she didn't want anyone to overhear what she was suggesting. After several minutes of texting each other, she and Jax were in agreement.
As she spent a half hour texting and making plans, the guys were gradually getting medical treatment and dressing in their new clothes. She chatted with the guys and continued making plans.
Jax insisted on being treated last, so once he got his twenty stitches in his leg, his scratches cleaned and bandaged and he was dressed in his new clothes, they were ready to go.
Scarlett brought the van around. The follow van for the run was behind her.
"So where are we going?" Scarlett asked.
"Drugstore," Juice said. They all had prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics.
"Let's go near here. They may have privacy laws, but that doesn't stop the drugstore employees from gossiping," Jax said.
"OK. I passed a drugstore," Scarlett said. "Follow me," she told Phil.
The guys were divided between the two vans and they headed to the drugstore. While the guys were inside getting their prescriptions filled, Scarlett talked to Chucky and finalized all the arrangements.
Scarlett had snapped into perfect old lady mode. Partly it was for Jax and partly it was to stick it to Gemma.
It suddenly occurred to her that Buck Jeffers wasn't with them. She wondered if he'd gotten killed, but Piney said no one died. She hoped that was true. She and her father's plans were built around using Buck Jeffers.
