Chapter 378 Tara's Dinner Guest Steve

"

Tara saw Kohn the second she left St. Thomas hospital. She was glad that she had Steve with her. He wasn't a physically imposing guy. He was an inch or so shorter than Jax with a more wiry frame. He had light brown hair, warm golden brown eyes and a lean featured face with a calm competent demeanor. She liked him right away.

She invited him to dinner. It would have been awkward with her making dinner and her not feeding him. It was the least she could do and she was glad for the company.

Her relationship with Eric was unsatisfying. It wasn't really a relationship. He was gone a lot and when he was home he didn't see her that often. He wasn't exactly sweeping her off her feet. She hadn't even told him about Kohn because he was out meeting with his publishers and doing book signings.

It seemed a little odd that a kid's book writer could have that many people interested enough in his books for him to do so many book signings. He could be doing readings from his books and parents would bring their kids. She'd flipped through a couple of his books and hadn't thought they were anything special, but children's books weren't her area of expertise.

She enjoyed cooking. It helped relax her and having Steve to talk to also put her at ease. They ate a nice home cooked dinner of what she used to call spaghetti meat—meat cooked in a tomato gravy, mashed potatoes and peas.

She found out a lot about him. He lost his parents, wife and daughter in a car accident in Florida. They were on their back from Disney World when they were hit by a wrong way drunk driver. He'd been handling a crisis at work and was going to fly out to meet them the next day.

When that happened, he decided he wanted to be near the only family he had left—his grandparents. He'd spend part of every summer with them in their Charming home. He always liked the little town and wanted to make it his new home. He needed a new start in life.

He was Elliot Oswald's chief of security. He did a little of everything from providing background checks to personal protection. When he was asked to help watch over Tara, Oswald had been more than happy to help keep Tara safe by allowing him to leave work whenever he needed.

Tara knew that part of Elliot helping her was a thanks for quietly taking care of Tristen, but even without the favor to Tristen, he still would have given Steve any time he needed to help her. Oswald was a very decent man.

Tara told him about her life. In that evening, she learned more about him and told him more about herself than she had Eric. Steve seemed interested in her life. Eric seemed interested in his own life. Whenever the subject strayed from him, she felt his attention waver. It might be best if she just quit seeing Eric. He was a lousy kisser anyway. He really didn't seem that into her either.

She offered to let Steve sleep in her father's room, but he declined. He wanted to sleep on the sofa because he could see the front door and hear the rear sliding door. That was the reason he wasn't in his car watching her house. He needed to be able to monitor both entrances into the house.

That was the big mistake made in movies or TV shows. The guy in the car out front doesn't know that the bad guy is sneaking through the back door yet show after show and movie after movie, this same mistake gets made. Tara guessed that the good guys must not watch TVor movies or they would have figured out that the only way to provide protection was being in the actual house as the person being protected.

Tara thanked him again. For the first time since Kohn had come to Charming, she felt safe when she fell asleep.

Next: Scarlett gets punished. Jax reveals how he learned he had SpongeBob on his face. Can Jax resist Scarlett if she tries to seduce him?
