Chapter 381 Punishment for 2

"

Jax needed to get some work done at TM for part of Saturday. Scarlett went to her store with Sack and worked on her store. They were going to leave in the afternoon and go to the lake house and leave Monday morning when she had her physio appointment.

Scarlett tried to break Jax's resolve and get him to give her the bone melting kiss, but he stayed strong. She pretended to mind, but she didn't. She liked the light playful part of their relationship. He was just so much fun. She'd never known a man like him.

On the drive to the lake house, Hale called Jax to tell him that he'd just heard from Kohn who was at the airport about to get on a plane for Chicago. He told Jax that he assumed that he would pass that information on to Scarlett. Jax told him that he would also let Tara know.

"Do you want me to call Tara?" Scarlett asked.

"No. I think I'll just leave things as they are until Tuesday. I don't trust Kohn," Jax said.

"OK. I thought maybe you were trying to play matchmaker for Steve and Tara."

Jax looked over at Scarlett and burst into laughter.

"Did you forget I'm an outlaw biker? We're not the matchmaker types."

"Uh-huh. Stupid of me to even suggest it. I don't think things are going that well with Eric the kid's book writer."

"Steve's a good guy."

"From what little I've seen of Steve, he seems like a nice guy."

"You doubt my judgement?"

"Absolutely not," Scarlett said. "You're flawless."

"Damned right. How else could have I gotten someone like you to be with me," Jax said. He leaned over from the driver's seat in the van and kissed her on the cheek.

Scarlett felt herself go all warm and tingly inside. She knew she was in over her head emotionally with Jax. She hoped drowning with him would be fun.

"I'll remind you of that the next time you decide to punish me."

"I bet you'll think twice about doing the Band Aid thing to me again."

"The problem is now I'm trying to come up with something to do to you to get back at you for punishing me. My father never punished me."

"That explains a lot."

"My behavior is always on point," Scarlet said.

"I was hoping to persuade you to misbehave a little with me tonight."

"Did I forget to mention my father is going to be at the house this weekend?"

"Are you kidding?"

"No. He should already be there."

Scarlett knew that Jax had planned on reacquainting her with his melt her bones kisses, but her father was going to put an end to these plans.

Once again, they were both going to be punished. While Scarlett was going to miss the romantic time with Jax, it was getting closer and closer to when she would have to talk to him. Maybe she didn't have to talk to him. Maybe everything would be OK. She didn't have to tell him every single thing about her life.

Scarlett gave Jax a lot of credit for taking the news that her father was going to be around so well. She knew part of that was he genuinely liked her father.

When they got to the lake house, they found him out on the deck. He had already lit the charcoal and was waiting for the coals to get hot and ashy.

"My two favorite people," he said as they walked outside to join him.

"I'm more of a favorite than he is, right?" Scarlett said.

"Of course," her father reassured her.

Scarlett hugged her father.

"You mind if I get in a swim?" Jax asked.

"We've got plenty of time."

"You and Jax seem good," he commented after Jax left for the bedroom to change.

"That's your opinion after thirty seconds?" Scarlett scoffed.

"It's you. I've never seen you this happy."

Scarlett rolled her eyes.

"If you tell me I'm glowing, I'm going to shove you off the deck."

Her father laughed. He suspected that Scarlett might mean it.

Jax looked at Scarlett when he returned.

"Did she tell you about Kohn?"

Decker nodded.

"Did she tell you that she didn't tell me? That I found out through a prospect that saw Kohn try to grab Scarlett?"

"Scarlett," her father scolded. "Why didn't you tell Jax?"

"Tell him," Jax prompted.

Scarlett's face flushed.

"I didn't want . . . anything to happen to him."

"I told her that I am responsible for protecting her," Jax said.

"I hope you got that through that thick stubborn head of hers."

"I can't believe you two ganging up on me."

"You should have told us both," her father scolded her.

"I'm going inside to get iced tea. I'll bring glasses for everyone," Scarlett said leaving the men.

"Jax, that's typical of Scarlett. She would drag herself through broken glass with two busted up legs to help someone she loves, but she won't ask for help for herself."

Jax nodded.

"We talked about it. I made it clear that I will keep her safe. I've had Sack—he's a prospect who was in combat in Iraq—watching over her when she isn't with me."

"Thank you. You're a good man."

Jax grinned. "She doesn't always share that view."

"Good. You have to be firm with Scarlett sometimes."

Jax laughed.

Over dinner, Scarlett shared how Jax assisted Kohn through the window of a barber shop. Her father approved as it was the only sensible course of action when Kohn pulled a switchblade on him.

Scarlett realized that she could never win with the two men allied against her. She didn't mind. She liked seeing Jax and her father getting along. She knew she would never have that kind of easy going fun relationship with Gemma.

Before she fell asleep alone that night, she thought how glad she was that Kohn was now going to be Chicago's and the ATF's problem.
