Chapter 386 Louise Gets Alarmed

Louise thought getting the alarm installed at work would make her feel safer, but it seemed to have the opposite effect. She was unusually jumpy. She didn't know why, but she was on edge tonight.
Jaime had carefully explained how to use the new alarm system to her. They had even called the police and told them they were testing out the new system so they wouldn't respond when they set it off. It had worked flawlessly. When the alarm button was pressed, the police were instantly notified and were supposed to respond.
Louise decided she was being silly. There was no reason for her to be so nervous. Part of it was her mother's doing. Her mother kept telling her how unhappy she was that she was working nights again. Louise repeatedly told her Charming was safe. No murders, no rapes and no felony assaults had happened in the last three years. Crime happened beyond the city's borders. Everyone knew that.
She looked at her watch. She had a report due tomorrow and Jaime had agreed to let her off early so she could finish it. He would takeover the rest of her shift. She still had an hour to go.
Tig came in even more chatty than usual. He'd gotten a couple of candy bars and some ice cream sandwiches. She was glad to see him leave. Something about him just rubbed her the wrong way lately.
She would have liked it a lot better if Jax had been the one stopping by. She hadn't seen much of Jax in the last few weeks. He'd given up smoking, but he hadn't even been in for condoms. She could see Jax Teller giving up smoking, but a man like that would never give up sex.
She looked at her watch again. Forty-five minutes left. Time seemed to be standing still.
