Tara was back in the same motel room that she'd stayed in the night she killed Kohn. She couldn't believe that she hadn't heard from Scarlett about her interview with Hale. Did that mean that it hadn't gone well and she didn't want to tell her that? She didn't know what to do. She was afraid if she called Scarlett, it would look bad. Her cell records were going to get reviewed sooner or later.
She'd called Margaret last night and told her about the shooting. She shouldn't have been surprised when Margaret said she couldn't come back to the hospital until she'd been cleared in the shooting. It hurt. She'd been foolish enough to believe that Margaret would express some sympathy. It hadn't happened. Instead, Tara had the impression that Margaret was glad that she wasn't going to be at the hospital for awhile.
Now, she faced having to talk to the sheriff's detectives. Hale's explanation about why they needed an outside investigation made sense. It didn't make having to go through it any easier.
She shut her eyes and rocked trying to find comfort in the simple motion. This was her worst nightmare and there was no way of getting out of it. It would have to play itself out. She prayed that she wouldn't crumble, say something stupid and end up behind bars.
She'd expected Scarlett to have called and asked her to stay with her. She knew she had a guest room in her condo. It wasn't that she minded the motel that much, she just wanted to be around someone who could offer a little emotional support. Was that so wrong?
How could Scarlett dessert her in her time of need?
