Chapter 407 Tara Terror

"

Tara hadn't heard from Scarlett since the night she killed Kohn. Even now those words shocked her. She couldn't believe she'd actually killed him. It was OK. She had hit the point where she believed her police story. It was self-defense. She should have taken that second shot immediately and it would have made this whole thing easier.

She didn't try to contact Scarlett on Thursday. Hale didn't want them talking until Scarlett had given him her statement. She thought Scarlett would call her after she'd given Hale her statement, but she'd heard nothing from her.

Tara couldn't take it anymore. She had to find out what happened when Scarlett talked to Hale. That was perfectly natural. Friday morning she called Scarlett. Her call went straight to voice mail. That was the first time that had ever happened with her.

She hopped in the Cutlass and drove to her store. It was dark. Clearly she wasn't there. Driving by her condo wouldn't tell her anything. She kept her car and van in the garage, so she wouldn't know whether or not she was home.

Where else could Scarlett be? Without conscious thought Tara drove past the police department. Her van was in the parking lot. Maybe there was an explanation. She wasn't able to talk to Hale yesterday and she was at the police department to give him her statement. Made perfect sense. That explained her call going straight to voice mail. It also explained why she hadn't heard from her Thursday. She was following Hale's direction and not having any contact with her.

Tara returned to her motel room. She still hadn't been able to go back to her house. She wasn't sure if she believed in ghosts but if they existed, Kohn would figure out how to be one. He'd wait for her. There was no way she was going back to her house and that bedroom until someone could go with her. If she could just get to the house and walk into the bedroom, she would know whether or not he was lingering in the house waiting to get her from beyond the grave.

She was a doctor and should be a woman of science, but she'd seen infants live when they should have died. There was a force whether it was God or some sort of entity that was intervening in this world. It stood to reason that there might be other things that existed. It didn't matter. She didn't want to take any chances. She had to know if Kohn was a ghost in that house even if some people might thing she was being silly.

She flipped on the television and wondered what was going on at work and how long she was going to be forced to stay away. Margaret had been so cold. She had never liked her. Now, she hated her.

Still no word from Scarlett. She just had to check it out. She drove by her store first. Her heart sank when Scarlett wasn't at her shop. She might have left early. Next was the police department. It had been three long hours. She should be done by now.

Scarlett's van was still parked at the police department. Something was very wrong. Her interview with Hale should only have taken an hour—two at the max.

She had the good girl's fear of what could happen to her since she'd stepped outside the lines. Tara knew she wasn't cut out for prison. She wasn't raised like Jax where going to prison was practically a badge of honor. It was humiliating and a murder conviction would destroy her career. She'd never be a doctor again. She could make a living being a doctor for outlaws. That was the only way she'd ever practice medicine again.

Tara was overcome with fear. She couldn't even cry. She began to expect Charming PD to come and arrest her.

Damn. She had to talk to Scarlett and find out what the hell was going on.
